Hi,
I've installed windows mobile 6.1 (5.2.20931, by VNInt - Really great ROM ! ) on my HTC Universal but the ROM is English whereas I'm French.
I try to convert the qwerty keyboards into azerty keyboards and to modify some languages parameters but it doesn't work completely and I go round in circles for a few days.
At the moment after having read many threads of this forum :
- I've changed the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\QWERTY : It works, my physical keyboard is now correctly mapped.
- I've added a mssp2_fr.lex file in \Windows and I've modified HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Spell Check : It works, the spell checker is now French.
- I've made many tests in the registry and with French dictprob/statdict files to get a French virtual keyboard and French dictionnaries but unfortunately, all have failed.
Notice that I want to keep the original windows mobile keyboard (I don't want to install a keyboard application, even a freeware)
And if possible, I want to avoid overwritting English Files because I search to get a configuration that allow to toogle as easily as possible between qwerty and azerty (ideally, I want to be able to toogle between azerty/French_Dictionnary and qwerty/English_Dictionnary just by executing .reg files)
Please, can somebody help me, and explain me what I should do step by step ?
The different methods I've found on other topics don't work on the Universal or with this Windows Mobile version.
Thank you
Hi !
I used to have same problem as you do but at the inverse, bought my Uni at France but i live in Mexico, it´s more easier for me manage my keyboard in english at least in soft, cause my physical keyboard is an azerty, to my humble point of view you have find a Rom in French or get a virtual keyboard in French such as SPB and manage in the screen avoding the confusion in the keys, maybe someone else with more expertise could help you in the registry matters, hope this will help you, greetings!

ORB! maybe you know how to fix this problem, you always know how, jajajajaja, cheers!

Welcome to the forum, please use the search and read the Wiki
For your problem I can think 2 options:
1.- Reflash your Uni with this french ROM (I don´t know what it says on the link as I´m not a french speaking): http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=forum&ac=voir&ref=16&cat=80&id=8127
2.- Try one of this registrys:
a. for the fench keyboard on english ROM
b. get a registry editor (like Resco)
c. search the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
d. edit - Layout in HEX to 1040c
e. softreset

Thank you for your answers.
But in spite of them, I'm still stucked...
I don't want to install a French ROM because it's a WM6.0 ROM, and not a WM6.1 Pro ROM.
Furthermore, I've read on French forums it was not enough optimized and it becomes sometimes a bit slow.
orb3000, I've already done the registry hack you are speaking about. It works, but only for the physical keyboard.
And I've allready read the two topics but it doesn't help me because it deals with translating WM in French or Finding a French ROM.
I don't want to translate WM in French (I know it's in theory possible with Real VGA but it always crashes the phone feature and reading English is fine for me, so I've abandoned)
I'll recapitulate what I want and what I've done :
1) Having an AZERTY physical keyboard instead of a QWERTY one : OK (registry hack)
2) Having an AZERTY virtual keyboard instead of a QWERTY one, without installing a third party software : KO
3) Having a French Spell Checker without overwritting a file : OK (copy of mssp2_fr.lex in \Windows + registry configuration)
4) Having the SYM key configured for French language without overwritting a file : KO
5) Having a French autocomplete without overwritting a file : KO
6) Being able to switch between French and English configuration with .reg files : KO

Hi french users!
I've created a cab to change language input functionnalities into French. It's based on the good idea of querschlaeger who did the same for german language. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279158).
It will change the following :
- Hardware keyboard layout
- Suggested words dictionary
- Spellcheck dictionary
- Autocorrect
- Symbols List
It won't change :
- The user interface
- The software keyboard layout
I used the french files from a SPVM3100 with a french Orange ROM.
Of course, it won't change the user interface into French
It works fine on my M3100 with WMXL 0.10, I haven't tested it with WMXL 0.20 but it should works too.

Thanks a lot for this
C'est génial
Thanks a lot.
Works nice on a WM5 AKU3.3 WWE.
You are welcome.
I confirm that this cab works fine with WMXL 0.20
If a moderator wants to move it into the WM6 forum, it would be nice. I didn't choose the correct forum when creating this thread.
&*"ç&"//!!!
This cab messed my keyboard completely, without even adding what was promised.
Now instead of "q" I get a "a", instead of "w" I get an "y" and so on...
Removing it did not solve the problem!
Is a hard reset the only solution left?
Ok, I see it's because you have a QWERTY keyboard and this CAB also change the keyboard layout from QWERTY to french AZERTY.
You just have to go in the registry and change to key HKLM\Software\OEM\Qwerty from 0x0002040c to 0x00020409 (In hexa)
Reboot and that's all.
It's strange because I tried the uninstall and it was working fine on my device.
Sorry for the inconvenience

it works perfectly with WM6 LVSW Edition (2007-03-26)
with WM6 Black Edition v1.2 I get my AZERTY keyboard mapped properly but I can't get the accented characters using the space bar, haven't tried spellcheck yet

I already tried soft-resetting my device
Merci.

I've never seen the 16key model, but the 20key has several xt9 dictionaries, so I would assume yes, you can use the xt9 with the 16key aswell

I think, there is no Italian dictionnary (XT9) with UK ROM.
You need to dump your Italian ROM (from your 20key keyboard) and put it on the UK dual touch (with 16key keyboard).
It's possible to dump ROM with the kaiser method.

I just tested 3 languages on my german 20key Version. (with the hardware-keyboard xt9-key-->languages-->choose lang.)
It uses for german, english and italian different dictionarys.
And all of them contains enough words to recognize the words of my test-sentences.
So, why should this be different for the 16-key version?

it switch both the sw and the hardware keyboard dictionary
go to the "how many touch duals" we have thread and search for someone with a 16key dual. send him/her a PM and ask. would probably be the easiest option

After many hours of head scratching, I proudly present to you the Greek T9 language pack for BenQ E72.
What made the whole process difficult was:
1. The phone has WM6 Standard with no ROMs/Dumps available. From my research there are at least three different WM6 ROMs: one for Asia (the original one), one for Australasia (the one every phone bought from eXpansys has) and one for a British GSM operator. WM6 has some peculiarities regarding signed code among these ROMs and this affects T9 IME as well. That's the main reason for the difficulty in supporting more languages than the ones in ROM and why packages from NiTroGenious and melgurth do not work (and every other version of T9 Greek LDB I could find...).
2. Due to no ROM availability, it's impossible to cook a new ROM as information about system internals (bootloader, etc) is scarce therefor it's impossible - for now - to create a cooked ROM that would overcome issue (1) and would allow us to overcome the issues of signed code (plus we could update in WM6.1).
To install the Greek T9 language, use the attached .cab file. Install it in the phone memory and reboot. The cab file will update the T9 core files with signed files and install a signed Greek T9 LDB. It will also remap T9 system wide, so that sequential keyboard presses (like searching through Contacts) will use the current T9 setting. It will also update the GSM operators list in Greece. The system does not localize the OS.
Please post problems/suggestions in this thread.
If there is enough interest, I will create additional language packs.
Many thanks to NiTroGenious and melgurth for their help.
Enjoy your BenQ E72.
Additional language packs
If possible can you create a package with Portuguese, English and Spanish languages. Also can you explain me what tools you use to create the cab and where you find the signed version of the dll. Hope to have some news from you soon. Kind regards.
You can find an updated T9 package for the following languages, here.
- English
- French
- German
- Greek
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Spanish

I have a PDF in Chinese, if anybody knows how to translate, together with all files mentioned in the PDF (P21DTDownloadtool etc...) and an Australasian WM 6.1 ROM. I have tried to flash myself, but can't get pass the PASSPORT application due to the txt file for the Passport being in Chinese and my Windows XP is English.
If anybody wants files & ROM then tip me the wink and I will upload it to my Webspace.

The Portuguese T9 it's not working at all. I think the problem is that when you select Portuguese he setup the country language code as 0406 (Portuguese Brasilian) instead of 0816.

Hello,
The Portuguese T9 is set up as 0816, not 0406.
Are you sure you are using an E72 with the eXpansys ROM? The system will (probably) not work with other ROM versions.
Hi,
I bought my E72 on Expansys, so I think I'm using the correct ROM. For example if you go to T9 menu and go to T9 Settings-Help you find that Portuguese T9 is not loaded. On my E72 I don't see any reference to Portuguese T9 version, all the other languages packages are present there.
I continued thinking that the problem appears to be on the country code. Take a look on the registry dump.
Regards.
Hi,
I've uploaded an updated version of the E72 T9. There was an issue with the Portuguese LDB file and it's reference in the registry. The string was 'PortugeseLdb.dll' instead of 'PortugeseLdb.dll'. The language codepage is correct, according to Microsoft LCID table (0816 for Portuguese).
As always, your E72 should be fully application unlocked before applying this updated T9.
Re-download the new file from the above link and post your results there.

Cannot run .cab files - WM6.5 phone
Hi,
I have an E72 phone. The details are WM6.5 CE OS 5.2.21234 build 21812.5.0.50.
As per post #21, I am trying to run the .cab file for enabling English T9 feature and I am getting the following error.
“Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permission”
I have placed the .cab file under "My Documents".
Please help me.
Also, how to edit the registry of a CE phone? Please explain the steps.

I have been testing the Registry tweak to chenge the Rom language, and after some tests I have discovered that if we change the Rom language we lose the notification sounds (Like SMS sound).
So I tested with the attached files I had from a 6.5 ROM from my olg HD. And after copying the files to Windows dir and change the Reg code to Portuguese all is working fine now including notifications.
Attached is a Zip file with all the files needed and a small text file with instructions.
If you want to use this files for another language diferent from Portuguese, all you have to do is to rename the "0816" code from the end of each file to the code from your language.
I hope this is usefull.
And works with all languages? (E que eu nao queria colocar PT )

Yes, works with all languages if you change the registry to your language code d the files in my Zip to the same code and then copy them to windows dir. It works.
The registry is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\MUI\CurLang and change the value 409 to 408 (Hex) (for example Greek) or try another value for your language. You can find all Windows Locale Codes here: http://www.science.co.il/Language/Locale-Codes.asp
Any way to just have T9 work with Portuguese without changing anything else to Portuguese?

Question : Will this, apart from restoring notifications, have more
screens translated to the respective languages ?
If one hacks the registry now, only the "main tabs" in Sense are translated, as soon as you press a menu it's Dutch or German or whatever language again.
Q2 : If someone can do it for a Dutch ROM that would be great. I've just lend out Touch HD as HD2 arrived.
Hello my friends,
I just bought my new HD2 and i tried the way as you said. I didn't copy anyt file, i just changed the registry , and now the menu and ferw more things are in my language. The only problem that rem, ains is the Keyboard. Instead of puting anothet program for Keyboard , can i correct also this one? I use for example the Greek language.

This work on changing the manila screen languages, it doesn't change the inner part, ie: new sms or new appointment, the input still in english.
I just try a minutes ago and the result is only change the manila language no the hole language in the device.
You have to delete the old ones form the Windows folder?
thanks a lot.
Hi,RRibeiro, doesent work for me,I changed 0409 with 0418,in all your files, copy all in windows and....no notification sound for sms ;-(
Can we confirm? Does this change more than just the Sense language and the T9 text entry?
Does this work with Chinese language phones?

How do we uninstall cabs like this one?
Hi,
I searched the internet, but I don't find any working solution. I changed the registry, installed ezinput (after this the htc was frozen),...
I want to keep the language (Dutch) but not the keyboard layout (qwerty). It should be AZERTY. How can I do that on this device? Is their a rom/app that can perform this for me?
Thanks in advance.
Anyone? Is there a dutch rom with azerty on it?
if i remember fingerkeyboard does

just choose your language as dutch and it changes the keyboard layout
let us know how it goes.
from experience it's a very good keyboard, even has abilities to cut, copy, paste, undo, etc.

Yep, that's the problem, the goal is to keep XT9... unfortunately no solution exists so far, I'm in the same case, for some reason HTC thinks that French = AZERTY keyboard... mine is QWERTZ, thanks...
Hi,
I did it as follow:
*I installed this rom: Leopat 1.4 Nld with Cookies Hometab
*I Changed the keyboard to french
*I Changed this in the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\LdbFiles]
"010c"="NLlsUN_xt9.ldb"
And now I have a dutch HTC with AZERTY . I took couples of hours to find those simple steps. Belgian people will be happy
Hmm, I tried that before, and it didn't work... but now it seems to? Weird.
Anyway XT9 still has a long way to go before it gets really useable, most of the time it doesn't even get it right if you type one wrong letter (neighbouring one) in a 6 letter word, and gives no suggestion...
Dammz... I flashed my HTC and did what I said above but xt9 stays french...
I searched hours for a solution without any luck.
Is it that hard to make xt9 dutch when using the french keyboard (azerty)?
