I've researched the voice dialling applications and decided to install the trial version of vito voice dialer.
I initially downloaded the zip file for 2003 mobile edition and then installed it. All went well, recorded tags for my contacts, thought great package, I'll soon be buying this.
Assigned the voice dialer to my calender button and thought it was time to test it out.
Nothing happens apart from "voice dialer" is displayed at the top for 1/2 a second then nothing else. It just reverts back to the today screen.
So, i removed the program and associated files and downloaded the cab file. Installed this - fine.
Exactly the same thing happens (doesn't happen).
I've since downloaded and installed all the available files and the same thing happens.
Anyone got any ideas.
I've loaded and tried the fonix dialer but i had this on my old jornada 928 and I'm still not impressed with it so I'd rather get the vito dialer working.
Any help greatly appreciated
Cheers

I should point out that I've removed all the O2 stuff that loads from the original boot-up, would this affect anything?
How stupid do I feel - just reinstalled voice dialer again to give it one last try and did everything as before, but I also went : start>programs>voice dialer, and hey presto, its up and running.
I didn't realise you had to start it from programs first time to get it working, I thought it would work immediately (after recording tags) by pressing whichever button I'd assigned it to.
Live and learn

My new O2 Exec came with this built-in Voice Speed Dial software (Cyberon Voice Speed Dial). It's a ****ty program and I prefer my own MS Voice Command program instead. However that internal prg takes over when I press on my BT headset button which drives me nuts.
A) This builtin prg probably takes up precious space, how can I safely remove it to free up more space from my device?
B) How can I set the MS Voice Command prg to take over the BT headset instead of that builtin ****ty program?
Thanks!!
Mobiler: this issue has been discussed in quite a few places elsewhere. What search string have you tried?
Have a look here for a cab that will sort this out for you:

Thanks vijay!!
I actually did try to search for the string "Voice Speed Dial" or "Cyberon" but couldn't find it.. lol too many messages around here ;-)
Now I figured that out using the Registry hack... though I wasn't able to remove the program itself, just change the BT to act to the MS Voice Command.. Yet, when the phone is off, the BT button doesn't turn on the voice command, which kind of defeats the purpose of 'hands free'.. (if I have to first poweron the exec and only then click on the BT button..
I haven't checked your BT patch just yet, but I think maybe this may solve the issue?
Thanks!
BTW: Using your FullScreenTS and that's by itself is worth donating! I'll be visiting your site soon when my paypal budget refills
Great stuff. Are you using the newer version of VJFullscreenTSC, posted in my forums? It gets rid of a bug that didn't allow you to access the bottom of the screen. It'll be further updated, eventually!
V
You deserve a nice TIP just for that program my friend. 14k of wonder.. ... Probably the most useful program for me ;-)
I have version 0.46(beta). I did get that half blank screen once though.. the only I wish for is for it to run the TS automatically without clicking on the top left little blue bar.. That is.. if I execute it, I then have to go to that bar, click on it and then press on the Fullscreen TSC menu option and only then it automatically executes the TS client... Also.. it doesn't save my settings of always hiding the softkeyboard icon at the bottom... Still these are just minor issues
I'll tip ya soon VJ...

I quite like the Cyberon voice dialer utility, and use it as much for the applications as for voice dialing (saves me navigating around the Wizard when I can't be bothered), but I kinda feel like it could do a little more and wondered if there was either an update (can't see one on the Cyberon webpage) or maybe some alternative software you guys could recommned?
I was thinking about one that uses voice commands to securely lock the phone for instance, or maybe one that can do macros, control functions within Media Player (pause, play, next, etc.), and other stuff. I realise this might be a bit hopeful, but some advice/recommendations on good voice activation software woud be nice, nonetheless.
Thanks in advance.

There're several additioanl voice controller apps; see my earlier reviews linked from here.
This link does not work since the whole site has been upgraded
I have search the new FTP and could not find it...
Can you send it though PM?
This way I can try it and maybe help you to solve the issue you are facing

microsoft voice command will launch any app in the startmenu, you can rename the app to something easily recognised. you can add shortcuts to the startmenu or programs folder to point to any app with arguments, within the shortcut.
I don't know of any way to control a media player by voice other than simply launching the player. I need to use the headset for voice control if listening to audio, the recognition doesn't work if music is playing via the speaker.
Hi guys.
I saw this program on the news a minute ago and the concept is really cool. With the builtin GPS or WiFi (how can WiFi be accurate!!!!), a user presses an auto/self configured button to report each of the 4 kinds of trap. When a user is at the vicinity of a trap, a shrill voice (builtin/self recorded) will announce the type of trap to the user. The web site is at http://www.trapster.com. Every body must have thought of this concept before (me included) but thank Jebus finally some body did it!!!
I just sent my X7500 back to get the MicroDrive fixed so don't have anything to test it with. Would some body with an Athena please try this program and report any problems using it on this particular device?
It's still in beta and free right now. However, if it becomes a subscription service, I wouldn'd mind paying for it. Provided that the fee is reasonable like the $20/year subscription fee of www.schedulesdirect.org If it is more than $20/year, I will have second thoughts.
How much would you pay for it?

Woah, who got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning?...
In the US it's a good idea - very sketchy in the UK at the moment and not as good as the PocketGPS ones or those available in Cameraware. But then they are free! Again, critical mass needs to be reached - in the US with very little alternative, it might be, in the UK I'm not so sure.
Just my 2d's worth.
I'm going to DL it and test it for ya bud. Thanks for the heads up with this s/w. And as "Con" said they're in the UK so they have other options we don't. I'll give feedbacks later on after I test it.
yea i just found this today. and did a search on here. jw if anyone has done this with the tmobile wing. i tried it but my phone said unsuccessful download. so i tried to download from my phone and it said its not pocket pc compatible. am i doing something wrong? sorry, kinda new to this forum.

Well after reading the how to on the website today, you have to actually dl it to the pc first and install it through active sync. I wasn't able to do it from work plus I didn't have my data cable with me in the office. I'll get around to it tonight tho and let you know how it goes.
i downloaded it to my pc, active syncd it, my phone screen popped up w/ a "yes" or "no". clicked yes. save to storage card. failed twice then said unsuccessful.

tried that too. keeps saying its unsuccessful.kinda disappointed with it.

What a big disappointment!!! The concept is great but the Windows Mobile version of this program is still in *JUNK* status. It lacks many of most basic functions such as GPS configuration (port, baud, etc...) It installed alright on my Athena. However, when I ran it, it kept telling me "Can't get GPS location (87)..." while all of my other GPS apps (Google Maps, Live Search, CoPilot Live) that were running at the same time had no GPS problem at all. I'll wait for the next version before using it.
Edited: The GPS problem is most likely due to AP4...
I have downgraded my athena to ap3 and the gps problem is fixed. so the previous gps problem is because of ap4. with the athena, there's no good way to report redlight, etc... by key press as the athena's key assignment took precedent. However, the announcement is excellent though the volume is pretty low. I will have to re-record the alert messages.
Sorry for late chime - in
I didn't see these posts before.

We've now added the capability to connect to GPS directly via the COM port, in addition to the GPS Intermediate Driver (GPSID) method which is supposed to handle all that automatically. The problem with the direct COM port method is that the app (Google Maps, Live Search, CoPilot Live, and Trapster(R)) then "hogs" the GPS. This sort of sharing is what the GPSID was supposed to fix, but unfortunately in an attempt to block all apps that are not paid (like TeleNav etc.) carriers have gimped the config screens etc. I've seen COM port "splitter" programs but have not tested them personally.
What a big disappointment!!!

I think this fixes your main objection. Please give it another look and let us know what you think.
We also added (some other stuff relevant to Windows):
- a mobile site. Just go to trapster.com/m and you can sign up, sign in, and download right there.
- "Ack" feature for Windows Mobile and "CarPC" (which means just run on your laptop) If you are a regular Trapster user in any US metro area (where trap density is high) you will definitely appreciate the "Ack" feature. No more ears ringing "police often hide here"... you just hit Ack (or mapped voice command) and it mutes until you encounter a new trap.
- support for WiFi location mode in Vista.
Hey trapster,
Thank you for such a cool app. Once I get used to it, it's pretty cool to use. I used it in July while I was visiting Florida and it did saved me from being pulled over while driving through the Alligator Alley. I'm using it every day now. Pretty cool.
For us Athena users, while the key mapping is not working well, I found that we can put the trapster folder on Start menu and have it opened in the background with all command icons showing. I'm using it with CoPilot. When I see an incident I need to report, I simply click on the [OK] button to minimize CoPilot and click on the appropriate icon to report the incident. Then I click on CoPilot again to open it up over the trapster menu. It's workable. Wish Athena has more buttons or Trapster is integrated with Microsoft Voice Command. It would be sooo cool to click a button to activate Microsoft Voice Command and say "Report Live Police" and have everything else done for us.

Hi sumtingwong, thanks for the kind words and glad Trapster saved you a ticket in Alligator Alley (of course the way the enforcement system works, that just means someone else got pulled over instead, but...).
Stephen Skarlatos of Pocket Now wrote about Trapster being integrated with Microsoft Voice Command here:
http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=1051&p=1
and in there says:
I use Microsoft Voice Command to report traps. As example to report a live police activity, I initiate Voice Command and say "start report live police", which initiate the trapster report livepolice function.
I have to admit that I am overwelmed with all of the info regarding the xv6800. I just got mine this past Friday. I have not activated it yet although I did have Verizon transfer my contacts from my Moto E815. I am holding off activating until I learn more about the phone.
The feature that attracted me the most about the phone was the WiFi capabilities. I do not plan on getting the data plan. I do not know how to find out if the phone has Win Mobile 6.1. I would like to have it serve as a GPS.
Some questions:
If I am at Win 6.0 should I upgrade?
Is anyone aware of ant tutorials on using the phone and O/S ?
Is there a way to activate GPS by basically down / uploading a program and clicking on it?
What applications would be best? I plan on surfing, web-mailing, listening to music, working with the office applications.
Is there any "must have" hardware I should get?
Thanks and I appologize it my questions seem very basic but as I said, I am overwhelmed.

1 not until you understand what the phone has to offer stick with 6.0
2 not me
3 yes but phone must be unlocked gpstoday and baf gps toggle are the best for me
4 surfing=skyfire music=s2p
5 screen protector

didnt it come with an interactive cd with a tutorial? mine did :S
if you are interested in musicand watching video you should definitly get the slunkworks flash bundle and tcpmp media player so you can goto you tube and watch streaming videos the way it should be done on mobile
i have uploaded the files for you if you are interested...install tcpmp first then the flash bundle,,if you need assistance let me know or search for "cab instyallation"
last about your GPS there has been people saying they have gotten it to work through google maps but it requires rom flashing first...but like GeLoPeZ said get to know your stock rom first...maybe youll like it
flaws
the fone does have a few flaws tho...the youchscreen is pointless wen it comes to small icons or scrolling...unless u want to get out your stylus everytime
it can be slow at times but nothing a little registry edit cant help out with a little...
almost everything has to be manually shut off or closed through running programs screen likr data connection etc,,,unless you get a few programs that can stop that hassel
the touch keyboard isnt worth anything its awful...unless, like i said you want to keep getting out your stylus
cant customize text message ringtones with custom ringtones
in all...most all these things can be fixed thgrough rom flashing or free downloadable apps and cabs i give it an 8 out of 10
hope i was helpful

FTouchSL fixes that issue. There's a free version somewhere on this forum, but for a little over 10 bucks (USD), it's worth it to get the commercial (kinetic scrolling!).

You can.... Start > Settings > Sounds and Notifications
From the "Event" menu, select "Messaging: New Text Message" and select the tone you want.
I think the OP was saying that you cant "Assign" a specific "tone" to a user. Just a tone for all incoming texts.
I might be off base......but I don't think so.
this is to enhance your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2526683 try it

Yes you should. There is really no reason not to. Just remember that flashing the new ROM will delete all of your data, so back it up first.
6.1 is useful for a variety of reasons:
1. You can solve your GPS problem by doing it (see below)
2. It has a task manager built in
3. It has Remote Access built in (so if you need to connect with your work desktop, it's nice to have it....you can go and load RA anyways with 6.0, but it doesn't come with it)
4. Has some better screens for managing connections (IMO).

Why yes there is! Only recently some amazing devs on this forum (skywing) devised an amazingly simple process for activating internal GPS. I just did it last night and it took literally 3 minutes to do and I now have Live Search, Google Maps, Amaze, and two other GPS based apps running on it.
Refer to this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424387
There are a lot of posts in that forum, but the upshot is either do the very simple manual install mentioned in the first post (I did it, I am no expert, took me 3 minutes) or go to near the end and look for the URL of the wiki that has the latest one click cab files to install.

I use Skyfire to browse the web. It is comparable to the iphone browser and it works great. It is in beta, but so far I have only encoutnered a few websites that freak out on it (e.g. www.projectgutenberg.org).
For music, I like pocketmusic 5.1, a freeware app from Pocketmind. It only does mp3 files 9the shareware version does all file types) but it has a great touch friendly skin and nicely shuts off the phone but still plays music to save battery power. It works with my bluetooth headphones seemlessly. Only issue is that while active it commandeers your hard buttons, so if you want to use the hard buttons on the phone for other than music control you have to quit the app.
Other nice apps (I won't list them all!):
1. Total Commander in place of File Explorer. Allows you to have two windows open and drag and drop files.
2. Vade Mecum is a plucker reader that I use to read ebooks on my phone.
3. Live Search and Google Maps are an absolute must.
4. I like Icontact (Burt's version) which you can find on these forums. It is a finger friendly contact program that works wonderfully.
5. I dig Youtube player. You don't need it with Skyfire, but I like it for playing files I download off of youtube. It will search youtube and play video directly or download it in .flv format for later playing. Useful to save the clips I watch a lot (Monty Python sketches, Weird Al videos, etc.) on my phone.
Those are the biggies, IMO.
Regards,
Devin
