I have not read or found anything on this before. So I thought that I would share what I just found. in the support section under sprint power vision it give a tutorial on to use your phone with the phone as modem and it make no mention of a charge for that service. So I asked a online chat rep. they said that it was included with power vision. So I said thanks disconnected started a new session asked again they said that it is not included. So I asked for a number to call they gave me a number for sprint employees as I have the SERO program, and apparently that is considered an employee account.
I called and asked them the same question to the live phone support person. She took a look at a few things and said yeah on the SERO program it is included but not on the power vision. So I asked her If there was anything I needed to do. She said nope I will add it onto your account. I once again verified that it was no charge she said that the SERO plans have it as a option for free but it is not by default turned on.
The number I called is 1-888-503-3078. It was given to me by the send online support person.
I am going to sparingly try it for a few days and then check it out the billing to be sure. I will let all you SERO users know for sure.
Hey i just called and asked the rep the same questions and what she told me was that sero is not covered under the phone as modem deal. She said it would cost 40 dollars a month for it so i decided that it didn't work for me. On the other hand i own the mogul and i asked her if i was unhappy with the performance of my phone because of it having crappy firmware update etc... she said i can call insurance and have them replace my phone with one of my choice for a 50 dollar deductable.
you should try these guys.
you pay a small fee one time till the exp of the license which should last a few years if i remember. just read the details of it. i have used it on sprint network with my treo 650. it works like a charm. you dont need to call sprint to ok this. just as long as you have a data plan on your cell phone. preferably the unlimited one as you will be on there for a while.

personally, i could never get pdanet to work for me so i used usbmodem. after a while, i got lazy and just started using internet connection sharing and bluetooth.
oh yea, no charges for any data whatsoever
I just use Internet Sharing and bluetooth, I'm on the SERO plan, and it works *fantastically*. I get 60Kbps downloads w/out problems and have run VOIP over it.
I couldn't get ICS over bluetooth working correctly, it always drops the connection and shuts down bluetooth on the phone after about a minute, even with the latest ROM. WMWifirouter works great though, I'm getting around megabit/second in places with good coverage.
From primenall's posting in this thread:
There is one edit that should be done, that will eliminate a step in the connection process and will hide your tethering activity. Credit goes to Luv2Chill..... here's the Qoute
""""" OK I've poked into things a bit more and yes it seems Sprint is up to no good in regards to tethering. Those of you running Sprint ROMs should remove the following registry value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
"Extension"="rilphone.dll"
Usual caveats about editing the registry apply here--don't do this unless you know how."""""
Removing means Deleting that entry from the registry, (it doesn't delete rilphone.dll just the shortcut to it when you open I.S.)
Once done tethering is simple using the included Internet Sharing....
USB should only be plugged into PC at this point...
1. Open Internet Sharing and hit connect (it opens a data connection to Sprint)
2. Plug usb into phone, wait a minute for PC to set up and that's it.
Always hit "disconnect" in I.S. BEFORE removing USB, always.

I deleted the regkey and connected via Internet Sharing without issue.
Once you get that working, check out WMWifiRouter. Turn your PPC into a wireless modem/router.
That reg key removal worked just fine for me. Did a small test with it and seems to work just fine. Now the wait until next billing cycle!
keep us updated on the outcome of that bill!!

You should really try WMWifiRouter. The Sprint EVDO network is capable of much more than 60KB/s, but thats about the limit that you can achieve with bluetooth. WiFi on the other hand has much greater bandwidth and won't be a bottleneck like bluetooth. I don't use it much, but I can get around 130KB/s down using WMWifiRouter.
I was wondering... If you have unlimited data plan and setup your phone to act as a modem via the USB connection how can they stop you from using your phone as a modem? Shouldnt we get the full bandwith of Sprints network just doing it that way?
im using that WMWifiRouter thingy, and at first I was doing PAM conneciton (didn't realized it till I knew), then i started getting remote disconnected error. I assume Sprint stopped it on their end. Now I'm using PCS Vision. I really doubt I'm gunna get charged for tethering with the PCS Vision connection, I didnt even do any registry mod/delete.
My question is... Will I get charged for those time I was PAMing? I just wanted to seperate my usage charges to know if I'm getting charged for either both PCS Vision connection and PAM, or just PAM.
I get download speeds of 95 to 150kbps using rapidshare, btw

Sure, if your WM hardware uses BT1.2. If it uses BT2.0, then no
BT2.0 is gonna give you 3mbit/sec on the link, vs .721mb/sec
The 3mbit should be faster then any EVDO network you can find
Power drain should be significantly lower on the phone as well.
My sister really needs a new phone and is with T-mob USA. I was telling her to get the HD2 when it comes out, and she really likes the phone but she doesn't want to pay for the added internet plan. When I had my Shadow (1st gen) I was able to use the t-mobile lower internet plan (t-zones?) and using proxy server info I was able to use the internet almost 100% normal. There were only a few apps that were odd.
What are the chances that since this is still a WinMo phone it will have that ability? Is this something that can be figured out before the phone comes out? Also, if it did work, would it access 3g data?
Thanks for any help/info.
Nick
When the HD2 launches it will have a required data pack just like all other windows, blackberry's and android devices currently do. If a discount is recieved on the device then the data pack (minimum $25/month) is required, paying full retail price is the only way not to have it. T-zones is no longer offered by itself for $5.99/month unless your plan is a grandfathered plan that supports it but would only be able to be used if the phone was purchased at retail.

i use tmobile in uk if the proxy box is ticked my mail dosent load.
T-Mobile USA now uses the device IMEI for data plans
The proxy trick does not work anymore on Tmobile USA, they now use the phone's IMEI number to verify that the phone is on the correct data package. It works for about 24 hours now then when you try and access the internet you are sent to a screen to add the correct data package.
Proxy internet for HD2 on T-Mobile
I have T-mobile with the $5.99 T-Zones. I used it on the DASH and am now using it on a Touch VIVA. If I buy the HD2 from T-Mobile with no contract are they still going to force me to get a data plan or will my T-Zones stop working. I want to keep my T-Zones and may have to get an ulocked phone.

I'm currently with AT&T and about to switch to T-mobile when the HD2 comes out. When I spoke to the T-mobile rep., (trying to get him to set me up on the cheap data plans instead) He told me T-mobile can tell what phone you are using and know if it is on the correct plan. He also stated that if the phone is unlocked then you can trick their systems into letting you keep your old plan. Now again, I dont know if this is true or not, I am about to switch...hopefully this month, I'll find out then.
With AT&T, I have an old data plan (unlimited internet, 1500 text, 200 MMS) and I pay $19.95/month. they have never made me change my data plan and I am using the Tilt2. If you go through the priemer business website to upgrade your phone, they dont give you the $50 discount and you get to keep your data plan unchanged....all other channels force the upgrade with an updated data plan. Again, the only way around that is to buy your phone from someone else, unlocked, or have warranty dept. swap out your phone for a different model. My nephew has the $10 data plan and is now using the Tilt2 on it via warranty swapping out his phone for a different model (the Tilt2).
I know on the AT&T service you do get the 3g speeds, so I assume it will be the same for T-Mobile (but then again assuming may not be the best way to go). Hope that helped
I am pretty certain that my sister has a grandfathered in 5.99 T-zones package too. I am hoping that she can get it and use this way. The email not loading problem that adamo mentioned though doesn't sound good. Do the other internet based things work ok?

from what I was told, everything should work correctly and at the correct speed, as long as the phone is unlocked. The cell phone service providers don't seem to really offer different speeds at different rate plans like the cable internet companies do.
I had not seen your message from earlier ... we posted at the exact same time. Thanks though for your input. I will let her know. It seems like it is worth a try. Worst case scenario, she has a great phone but she has to use Wifi to check her mail and such.

i have been reading about this 30 dollars extra a month to share my 4g connection with laptop, computer and anything that uses wifi...but my questions is, will i have to pay the 30 to share my 3g connetion since boston will not have 4g until 4th quarter 2010??? i currently have a touch pro 2 stock sprint and run xdi wifi sharing on it and anything can pick it up. since the evo is android, will there be a program that i can run out the box to share my wifi? please elaborate as far as the internet sharing abilities of the phone...

PDANet, and once it is rooted you will have more options...free options.
I certainly wouldnt pay the 30 for wifi hotspot... you can get it for less using other software....but its up to you..ya know
Yeah there are a bunch of options once the Evo is rooted, which hopefully will come soon before most people have a chance at it (this is why i think Google gave them out at the developer conference). But the $30 a month is not worth it. wait then root it and have it for free.
i've played with it in google i/o and u can enable tethering even on 3g, now the wifi was so freaking congested there i didn't get the chance to try connecting to it, but chances are good that it works

Still need the $30 plan.
darn it...i guess i will just wait for the phone to be rooted to get a free wifi sharing program. at least the 3g will be unlimited to tether unlike 3g now where they only give you 5gb...(even tho it didnt matter on my touch pro 2 under xda wifi sharing) because it went in as internet usage! lol
I'm more hopeful that once the phone is rooted we will able to use the included wifi hotpsot program without paying the $30.mo. I betcha the hotpost program now sends out something at loin and only ESns with that permission can use it. Every Sprint Windows Mobile and Palm phone I've had in the past could be hacked so that the built in tethering app worked without the need to upgrade my account
isnt the wifi hotspot program the same as allowing other devices to connect to your phone via wifi? is so, when its rooter there will be a program allowing u to do this..unless sprint completely and uterly somehow with alien technology blocked it on teh phone.

Yes there are other programs but from what I've seen the built in program is truly built into the software including an on/off widget.

just wait til its rooted, and im sure it will be, then we can use wifi tether program that someone will create for it. oh and just to rub it in, I LIVE IN 4G CITY!!!!!
Is tethering going to be an option you can sign up for, or rather, something that they will detect and bill you for ?
I can't seem to find anything on their website as far as adding tethering to your plan. I have no gripes about paying for it, especially since now I have WiFi calling... I just dropped my plan down to 500 minutes as I plan on doing most everything via WiFi anyhow.
I do not know their plans. I am tethering with my Nexus while I am waiting on my order for this phone from the retention department.
I will be watching my billings to see if they are able to charge for this beginning today.

I was curious as well...I dont know if they can detect that you are tethering, especially in places that have 4G service. The phone itself is capable of pulling quite a bit of data.
I can say that I have already flexed the tethering app installed on the phone and it works great...even on 3G. Its not something I abuse. If I need to tether to my laptop here at work, I do...then get off. I know some people who have cut out their home ISP and rely on tethering even to run their PS3 and XB360. That I think is being a little greedy for a service that T-Mobile has been pretty lenient with thus far.
On a side note...you would think that there would be a popup disclaimer "this app may result in charges...blah,blah,blah" when you open the default hotspot app...but there is not, leading me to believe that they may never take notice of casual tethering.
I know sprint limits your hotspot use to 3gb with some plans and then drops the speed.
Is there any sort of work around for this without rooting since rooting isn't possible?
Thanks in advance. ♡

I'm using PdaNet without any problems. Have to do USB tether and share your internet thru the computer with the PdaNet wifi share feature. Because I'm paying for the hotspot I could also use FoxFi, but that part of PdaNet does use your allocated Hotspot data. So I stick with the USB tether through PdaNet.

Pretty sure he was asking about bypassing wifi hotspot speed restrictions set by the carrier. If you didn't take the last update and can still adjust your apn settings I'm pretty sure you can.
Reboot device, turn hotspot/tether on within 5-20 seconds after boot up and it will turn on. I have tried it with device without the hotspot service, hotspot does turn on without the subscription notification but I didn't have any connection to the web, I've tried it on boost mobile with and without hotspot subscription devices. Downloading junk over 8GB plan limitation so far with the subscription though, I "think" boost mobile is now somewhat is unlimited to 1TB on hotspot now with the 1TB service is what they call unlimited. I don't have enough time to download over 33GB files all day to prove them their service is not truly unlimited.

sprint doesnt drop the speeds on the 3gb hotspot, they charge overages on the unlimited plans, you have to be on the data share pack plans for them to throttle it.
I have an 8 line sprint business plan, they offer a 2 month, 6GB Hotspot add on for 60$.
I also have an att unlocked iPhone 5S on a monthly prepaid smart mobile plan. Which, aside from the unlimited talk and text, I get FULLY unlimited data. Not "10gb at 4g speeds, then unlimited 2g"," II mean full unlimited high-speed. Including over wireless Hotspot. I'm 1 week into this month, and I'm 60gb deep. 58 of which were consumed via hotsoot. No throttling this far (knock on wood). Check the pic.
For how much? 60 DOLLARS. WTF sprint, a gb of data isn't work anywhere near 10$.

I can confirm that I can tether/hotspot with samsung j7 and PDAnet/FoxFi. I burn up my 8gb quick then use PdaNet, works like a charm. Phone is rooted though.
I am using an S5 on Safelink (Obama phone) on the bring your own phone program, all free $50 for a used S5 on Offer Up.
(actually it was the second s5 I bought for $50 on Offer Up. I dropped it, broke digitizer & LCD. It's now a $50 extra battery & charger.)
The plan offers 350 voice min, 1gb data & unlimited texting.
However you can purchase extra data for $10/gb I think. BUT for $40 $44.78 w/tax, you get unlimited everything. Voice, text and data . Ironically it's run on Tracfone who charges a hell of a lot more if they even offer unlimited.
BUT, apparantly you can tether. I've been doing it for a couple of days for my boyfriend. 15gb so far. I've searched a lot online, read all of Safelinks TOS and legal mumbo humbo and can't find any mention of throttling or tethering. except 1 sentence:
Safelink reserves the right to terminate service for unauthorized or abnormal usage. but nothing about tethering. Towards the end of the month I may start streaming video 24/7 to test this.
