I installed some software, a voice activation software, and now it crashes everytime i try to navigate to settings to remove the software. I have to reset it from the back everytime.
How can I sort this out
Sounds like time for a hard reset?

I'm fairly certain you are going to have to hard reset too. Sorry
i just suffered the same fate thanks to my MT4.
btw , if you have sktools, you can try the remove program from there too
How do I do a hard reset? Wasn't that only done through the settings option on the phone?
Hard reset means you return the Xperia to "out of the box" state ...you loose all data and programs
1. turn off the phone
2. Hold both right and left buttons (the hardware buttons that stick out a bit, right under the screen)
3. press power button, while still holding the others
4. follow on screen instructions (to press "R" to confirm reset, slide out and use the hardware keyboard)
thread
I had exactly the same problem this week.
I had bought the program and installed it successfully. However after installing it again after a hard reset, it did exactly as you describe, crashing when you try to access settings.
I think the version I had purchased was MSVoiceCommand_1.6.17913.CAB. There is a version getting around these forums (MSVC_US_PPC_1.6.19209.bengalih.CAB) which did the trick for me.
Hope this helps

I'm scared installing any other voice command now, I've reset the phone too many times.
IS this software even that good?
I had the same problem too
In lieu of installing a 3rd party software (eg sktools, memmaid, etc) you could try uninstalling it via active sync. Or maybe remove it from the startup programs then soft reset.

Something's weird with my belowed S100. The other day I tried to install a freeware - My|Phone 1.5 by JGui - which instantly killed my S100 and wouldn't let it boot up at all (Stay away from that plugin!!!). So I had to do a Hard reset (both powerbutton and pin), and the reinstall the most needed apps. So far so good.
That's when I noticed that the "Button Lock" didn't work properly, I had enabled the "Button Lock" under settings > systems as I always prefer to have the keys locked. But... Now it doesn't work.. Or to be exact - sometimes it does.
I've tried setting it to "Do Not Lock Buttons", then softreset, and then changing it back to "Lock Buttons" again, yet another soft reset and nopes... It seems to work sometimes, but then again, sometimes if I press the green key twice it starts dialing (but the screen remains dark though).
I tried performing yet another hard reset and formatting my SD-card and tried the "Button Lock" before installing any apps - still the same beahviour.. What should I do????
Help!
I too have this problem, and was told that it was due to the Microsoft Voice command software.
I have since given up trying to resolve this issue, and have bought a krussell case which minimises unwanted button presses as an added bonus.
If you get a solution for this let us know because it is REALLY frustrating.
Well, this problem occurs even if I haven't installed anything after a hard reset - so I can clearly say that it doesn't has anything to do with MS Voice Commander (which I'm thinking about to buy and try out)...
I've emailed Qtek's swedish support (Brightpoint.se) to see if they have any solutions. So far no reply...
So I am not the only one who have experienced that my pocket suddenly started talking to me? Nice to know
I have noticed that after a hard reset the button lock is turned off. Doing a restore from Sprite won't update this with your previous setting, so you ALWAYS have to do it manually after a hard reset.
Well, I could live with that - IF it would work... Doesnt't work properly at all as I've described above...
can anyone tell me if the registry is reset when a hard reset is performed? for a while my phone has been running incredibly slow and no number of hard resets has fixed it
when you hard reset, it put everything back to how it was!
hmm
it doesn't seem to be doing that, i installed zagat to go on my wizard the other week as did a couple of people i know, it's made all of the devices crash constantly and no number of hard resets are fixing it
How are you "hard reseting"? If by using the stylus in the reset hole then that's a soft reset. A hard reset is performed by holding Record and Camera buttons and reseting with the stylus, then pressing the Send button when instructed to format. You can also "Clear Storage" from Settings\System. You will lose all settings and have to start all over.
i've been doing a true hard reset. i've found the issue now, the software that was causing the problem seems to install something or change the registry settings when connected to the pc even if you don't install the software itself.
i'd recommend to everyone to avoid zagat to go like the plague
Zagat OK
I've been using Zagat for six months without trouble. I have it installed on the miniSD and have about 30 cities. Zagat isn't nearly as useful as Vindigo, but Zagat operates fine. It doesn't have a program running on my PC so there is no mechanism by which the PC could be changing the registry of my MDA through activesync.
I'm not sure exactly why it's happening, the last thing i remember doing before this problem occurred was uninstall some programs, and decrease the text size in settings.
But everytime I power on the handset, it will boot up fine. But then the activesync information screen (the one that shows your recent syncronizations) will pop up, and my phone freezes up right there. It's pretty much unavoidable at this point, everytime I reset my phone its the same problem. I'm able to do a soft reset at this point, but that's pretty much it.
If it's any help, one of the programs I removed was pTravelAlarm (Burr oak software) i got rid of that because i was getting a "Cannot execute \Windows\pTAmgr.exe" Notification Error during startup, which now that I mention it, the error still pops up even after i removed it.
Is there anyway to perform a hard reset without having to be in windows, or connected through activesync?
Or am i pretty much boned at this point.
You don't need or want to be connected to Active sync when doing a hard reset!
Hard reset is pressing both soft keys at the same time as poking the stlus in the soft reset hole. This takes device (after some menu screens) back to the way you got it originally.

We're all newbies to start with and we're all still newbies with some aspect or other of Hermes or WM5.
Use this thread if you have problems with hard reset.

I did a hard reset, and its working just fine. Though i do think i'll be updating the ROM, seeing as i've had many problems with the phone freezing up and recycling itself under the OEM ROM. Thanks again

Randomnly when I press the green phone button or select Phone from my Start menu, I do not get the keypad, instead I just get a black box on the screen. They keys are "on" the screen - ie I can dial a number by guessing where the keys should be displayed, but unfortunately this is no good!! Any suggestions?
I have a similar problem, sometimes I get nothing no phone pad, just the today screen. I did a soft reset and it works again try doing that and see what happens? Do you have any phone apps that might be confilcting with the OEM phone apps?
Yup, a soft reset fixes it. It occurs approx after 10times of using the phone (although I havent actually counted) after a soft reset
Which ROM's are you guys running? Is it Helmi's 1.1?
no, i am completely standard on a UK O2 Rom
using O2 standard ROM with radio 1.04.xx, I just got it though. So I'm still just trying to figure out the device before I start tweaking it. SuperCarl, I don't know what to tell you, I soft reset mine and all was fine. Do you have any dial-pad skins that you are using maybe?

soft reset alleviates the problem, but it recurs.
I am not using a dial pad skin (unless one is bundled with o2)
All of a sudden my camera stopped working. I'm using SPB mobile shell and was looking through my windows folder on my phone just to see if there was anything in there I wanted to use as a widget. I was opening some executables to see what they were and most were just standard stuff, but some didn't seem to do anything. However, now when I try to use my camera on my phone it shows the image it first sees and then freezes up and I'm forced to do a soft reset to get it working again. Also when I checked the test camera executable in windows doesn't freeze up my phone.
While google searching I came across someone saying that there is a such thing as a factory reset by typing in *#7780# that will reset the settings, but not remove any apps or data. First of all is this true and would it probably fix my problem and second of all, is there another way that I could fix this without having my settings reset. Thanks.
1. Soft reset: open the back cover, on the top of the battery, having a black button. This is the soft reset buton. Press this buton to reset.
2. Remove the program.

Maybe it wasn't clear as to what was going on. I have done a soft reset many times because it keeps freezes up every time I try to use my camera. Doing a soft reset simply allows me to use my phone again, but if I go into the camera again it freezes up again forcing me to do a soft reset.
And remove what program? SPB mobile shell? I know that's not it because I've been using it for over a month now without any problems. The problems started when I was looking through some executables.
you probably ran the camera test / diagnostics program. There was a post about running some of the exacuteables in the windows folder somewhere around here. Not to fear though. Just hard reset.

Thanks for the info. I thought that a hard reset would probably fix it. But is there a way to fix it without loosing all my data and programs?
Not that I am aware of; dont feel bad though I did the same thing. also this is a good opportunity to flash to the newest dark rom.
I was hoping to avoid hard reseting my phone, but either way, thanks, that did fix it.
my camera always stops working

The camera on my phone freezes from time to time. I can't find any reason for it, other than it seem to happen more often if I use the hardware camera button to launch the camera when the lock screen is on.
