hi,
I have the problem, that if I charge the battery from near empty state, that it requires 4-5 hours to charge with the ac adapter and if i charge it via usb it needs 910 hours. The issue is, I am not at the same place the whole time,
so sometimes I need it to unplugged, before the battery is full, so this may quicken a potential memory effect. How do you handle the battery charging?
do you charge it before it gets empty or do you unplug before its full?
Did you find a way to charge it faster?
cheers Avalun

Always charge your device switched off if possible. This makes the charging time shorter and helps the battery to "calibrate".
If phone on, make sure screen is off. Also helps.
Your phone will always take longer to charge while synced through USB.
Try and let the phone completely drain before charging it. This should increase battery length.
hi,
I usually plug it on when the message of critical battery level appears, the problem if I switch the device off is, that no one can call me during this time.
How long does your HD need to charge from near empty to full?

To fully charge from empty it normally takes a couple hours.
Generally I always charge my phone at night and have it sync'd via USB during the day so it rarely gets below 75%
There has been previous threads regarding battery strength, charging etc.
Try typing battery into search this forum at top of page.
Hope this helps
hi,
thanks for the answer I already read many other battery threads here, they are all about battery draining, not charging time.
So I thought I just ask, what other peoples have to say about this.
As I see the charing time is normal so thanks for the answer.

Hi all,
I've noticed that when I plug my HD to a PC but with "Don't charge battery while connected" option enabled (I keep my phone connected to a cradle while at work, and I don't want to keep it charging for so long) the battery drains very quickly. It can take about 3 or 4 hours to waste a full charge.
Anyone has experienced the same?
BTW, ActiveSync is on.
Thx.

Enable the option to charge while connected, it will not damage your LI-ION battery. LI ION batteries are damaged on repeated full discharges, however this is limited by the in built circuitry to protect the battery. Also, charging through USB will be slower than using your charger as the current supplied is a lot less.
hi
what the recommended method to charge the new battery?
1)charge few hrs till full and drain till 0% and charge again?
2)charge >10hrs?
I used to have N6288, it will auto stop charging when full.
Therefore i tend to charge my hp before i sleep and wake up in the morning to off the charger. So which is like charging for >10hrs.
Since i do not own htc before, so i'm not sure about how they charge.
lets say if battery full till 100%, will it auto stop charging?
i only afraid with my charging pattern (charging while sleeping) will make htc batt spoilt.
any advices?
thx alot

Of course it will stop. Every battery will stop charging when it will be full otherwise it would burn or explode.

i see..thx
so how long u charge the 1st time?
Before when I bough Tytn II, I charge it over 10 hours and that works well (3~4 days). Recently I bought HTC Touch Cruise09 and I only charge it for 3~5 hours (because the LED turns its color and I just remove the charger). I will see how this battery works.
How to charge a new battery... the solution. ;-)
Hi,
As erzketis says, you have an internal tools wihc switch of your charge.
I'm an electronical technician...
As the charger is a 1Aand the battery is a 1.1 Ah.
In two hour maximum it should be OK.
For me, I went to the sport and 3 hours after, it was OK.
What we usually forget to says is 2 things:
- After the first charge try to use at maximum your battery, let put it close himself (memory effect even if we says taht Lithium has a minus effct, it's a bull****). Try to reperform the same thing 5 times before going on the second tab...
- Avoid to charge you phone when it's not necessary (desactive auto charge when connected on USB). I'll says, wait till 10~0% to charge it. I know it's not prctical, but you'll have a better battery life.
I hope it will help you.
So lately I've noticed that battery life is strange on my Vogue with android. When I let it charge overnight, I take it off the charger and it instantly falls to about 97%. At about 1 PM the battery hits around 30% so I plug it in.
Here's the weird part: it's only charged for a half hour and it's reached 80% according to the meter. After another half hour it will say 100%, and stops charging. If I take it off the charger, it will instantly drop to around 77%, and lower quickly. If it says it is not charging anymore, but I know it is not full, is it really not charging? Can I just leave it on and expect it to continue charging to the real capacity?
Is this just how it is? or is there anything to be done about this? I've tried completely discharging the battery a few times, but didn't really help at all that I could tell.
Curious about everyone else's experiences
Thanks!
I think I remember reading somewhere that Android reads the temp of the batt. to figure out what % is left....
Try this.... When your batt. is low, take it out and blow on the connectors for a few minutes... See if your % rises.

Trying this now... lol
Would I have to do this every time I want to get a full charge? seems strange. Maybe this woudl explain why it charges overnight - longer period of time the battery can cool down, charge up more, cool down, charge
how long should the vogue legitimately take to charge? Seems as tho mine does well within an hour...

Perhaps my battery has just lost it's capacity - it is around 2 years old
Here's what I posted about battery issues in the thread for my Kaiser build:
Battery issues are due to the driver. It was written months ago and AFAIK hasn't been looked at since... I know it has some bugs, here are the ones I am used to:
Intermittent charging
stopping at certain percentages (like ~70%) and refusing to charge
when refusing to charge also does not detect when plugged into USB/ADB
won't fully charge
reports different battery percentage than WM
sometimes jumps instantly from ~30% to ~4%
reports connected to computer when only connected to wall charger
repeated USB-connected notifications
battery becomes hotter during charging than on WM
I should add also that sometimes when the battery dies in Android it won't charge in WM until I boot the phone in WM and unplug and replug the charger.
If I want a proper charge, I just boot WM and wait ~2 hours. Much simpler than Android.

well it could be that the age, my phone of 2 years got replaced after the power button snapped off, got another which i lost which got replaced by my most recent.

Gah, that's too bad.
When I charge overnight, I don't have problems. It's in the middle of the day when it isn't on the charger for too long that I have issues.
Thanks for confirming the weirdness though, at least I won't bother with a new battery (yet)
OK, first I admit, the battery is a POS. I usually have enough battery life to make it through a full day, but usually it will die in the evening before I go to bed and put it on charge.
Recently I got a message, "Charging current is not enough for device power consumption. Please connect your AC adapter." Strange thing, though, it WAS connected to my AC charger. I get the same message with both of my chargers.
Battery will not charge, but has just enough power to keep the phone running as long as there is charge already in the battery. So the battery is almost dead, I put it on the charger all night long, get up in the morning and take it off, and then it beeps extra low battery! and then dies shortly after.
The only way I can get it to work is to leave the phone powered off for a long period of time and charge it then. Doesn't always work though. works if I take out the battery and charge it all by itself on a USB phone battery charger.
Sounds like the problem is somewhere in the phone, not with the chargers. Why would both of them do the same thing?
Please help.
does it do the same thing when plugged in and charging via USB??
could be a bad battery...
from old phones i had previous to my magic it sometimes helped to clean the contacts on the battery and charging pins on the phone..
I'll check that...
BTW, if I am plugged into an AC adapter, is it supposed to stay on even if I remove the battery?
NOPE! same message. Been charging all day now and only shows just over half charge on the battery. Most of this is from the hour or so that I had the battery out and charging on its own.
For example if i leave all night charging, does it damage the battery? Some batteries after fullycharged, they wont charge anymore. What about u8800?
And what happens if i charge while phone is open and not fully empty? Does it damage?
My charge lasts 16 hours, why is it? I dont use wifi, games, etc. Please help
All ROMs should stop the charging process when reached 100% (the icon changes, on the stock ROM the flash disappears of the icon), therefore I believe that the battery cannot be damaged by leaving the phone plugged in the whole night.
I'm sure that it doesn't matter when you recharge the phone, if it's 10% or 50% it makes no difference to the charging process or the battery. It use to matter on the Li-Nch batteries, but those are long gone...
The fact that the battery only lasts 16 hours, it's an unrelated problem, that I've been struggling with for months now...It's one of the system/hardware components that hangs and doesn't allow the phone to go to sleep...therefore, the battery lasts up to 24h.
Look at this thread, so many users are affected by this...probably most of them and only the recent kernels (.void/Miui) have measures against this problem.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043760
I did not make any rom differences or overclock. Still stops the charging?
Sometimes i charge from pc via usb, can it damage?
It goes 16 hours without wifi or blueetooth or 3g. I dont use too much but goes for 16 hours.

Here, it is about sleeping mode. My phone goes black screen after 15 seconds idle. What is sleeping mode?

Charging from USB is somewhat preferable to wall charger, due to it charging slower, therefore generating less heat. Although, a wall charger won't do any harm. When the screen is off and the phone is not doing anything, the CPU is suppose to go into a deep sleep state, yet with this phone it does not.
wall charging should be preferable in my experience
Ok, let me clarify a few things here.
The battery recharging process is simple, when the battery reaches 2.2V, then the current inside is not enough to sustain the hardware and it's considered empty. Any standard phone charger, will pump current until the voltage is 4.3 and then the so called "negative delta v" signal is being sent and the charger stops pumping.
USB is a BUS designed to carry data, but to be able to carry data it needs to provide a power supply to the connected device. Therefore, any USB should be able to deliver 5V and 500mA to any device connected.
As this phone's battery, according to the wall charger specification, takes up to 1Amp, the simple math tells us that the wall charger will charge the battery twice as fast. Since I've been dealing with batteries, I can tell you that in this case USB charger is a much better choice to recharge this battery, as it delivers only 500mA. The less current going through the electrodes, the lower the chance of damaging the battery due to high temperature.
For more info:
http://www.mpoweruk.com/chargers.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery_charger
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery
According to Wikipedia:
"Most modern cell phones, laptops, and most electric vehicles use Lithium-ion batteries. These batteries last longest if the battery is frequently charged; fully discharging them will degrade their capacity relatively quickly.[23] When storing however, lithium batteries degrade more while fully charged than if they are only 40% charged. Degradation also occurs faster at higher temperatures. Degradation in lithium-ion batteries is caused by an increased internal battery resistance due to cell oxidation. This decreases the efficiency of the battery, resulting in less net current available to be drawn from the battery."
These batteries last longest if the battery is frequently charged; fully discharging them will degrade their capacity relatively quickly.
So we must usually charge from usb and must stop before reaching %100 charge, maybe %98?
But when connect to pc, there is an icon shown, before disconnecting we need to click "disconnect secure" icon on system tray, if i dont do, it damages the system of phone?

There is a very small chance on XP, dunno about vista, no harm on win7.
So we should usually charge from usb and must stop before reaching %100 charge, maybe %98?
It is more safe since there is half of the current that passes compered to Charging with the AC adapter. But it theoretically takes almost double time.

Yes, that's correct. But, I wouldn't worry about stopping before 100%. I know for sure that the stock ROMs are stopping the charging process when reached 100%.

No.You're not going to damage anything by disconnecting the cable directly. That "safe disconnect" is only for data transfer, nothing to do with charging.
Because of the exploding nature of li-ion cells when misused, the battery itself has a protection circuit to prevent overcharge and discharge. So whatever how much the rom wants to charge, the battery will protect itself...
Exactly; the ROM does not have any influence on the charging process - that is why your phone can charge the battery even though it is turned off. The whole process is completely independent from the software your phone is running.
In 2011 it is very hard to damage a battery, it will most likely die from old age. There is just one thing that is not the best thing to do: Trying to switch on the phone when the battery is empty already. If the voltage of the battery drops below a certain point, the battery might be damaged and thus have less capacity afterwards.
To be on the safe side I always turn off the phone a few minutes before the battery is completely empty.
I agree that there is a separate circuit that does the charging, so no matter if the phone is on or off, battery would still charge. But, I believe that the Rom can interfere with the charging process, that's why on some Roms you get the flashing buttons when phone is fully charged or sometimes you can't unlock the phone from the first attempt, when battery is full.
In reality, i believe that charging process has 2 control points, the default (when phone is switched on) and the "failsafe" one that charges the phone when voltage has dropped below a certain value (which has to be is different in terms of current values, as there is no power consumption).
