Hi guys, this is my first post here and I want to ask you something.
* What is the proper way to disconnect the xperia from the computer, when it is connected with an USB cable to sync all the info?
Should I click somewhere or should I stop the device?
Please give me some advice?
If it's activesync, then you can just plug it out.
If it's just a normal usb connection, remember to click "Safely remove hardware" button (near the clock) on your computer and select your phone.
That is my point, i don't see the adv where it says that, it just appear the windows mobile icon, but not the one wich I use to disconnect the USB memories.
if it vista you need Windows Mobile Device Center
otherwise you need to be more clear if activesync react to
the device is being plug'd in
Yes, I have the Windows Mobile Device Center, but I can't find where to click to safely disconnect the usb cable.
I really appreciate your advice, thanks a lot.
So, you just use the regular USB connection (not activesync/wmdc)? And can't find the "safely remove hardware" button?
Look if the icon is hidden in the notification area, if not, try this command in Start -> Run: RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll
It does not appear as connected or anything else in that command you sent me, but in the Windows Mobile Center it appears as connecter with a green button.
is it safe to unplug the cable only? without click in the safely remove button?!
If you have it connected with WMDC (windows mobile device center), then yes, you can just unplug it.
The only time you need (not really, but better safe than sorry) to click on safely remove hardware, is if you have changed the settings on your phone to just work as a USB device and not connect with WMDC.
Hope that answers your question
Thanks Dogans, from now on i will only disconnect the usb cable from my phone without look for any button or something like that, now i am more confident with my new phone, anyway I want to know what other users do to disconnect their phones.
My phone and all my USB devices just get yanked out once I've finished. Never bother with the Safely Remove Hardware. Just make sure you haven't got any read/writes going on.

I have the following problem with my HTC Touch HD. Since yesterday after i transfered 2 video files and a few pictures, when i connect it through USB, the computer doesn''t detect HTC anymore (nor syncing nor file transfer). Even the Bluetooth syncing does not work. I performed several soft and hard resets, and it seems it;s getting worse after every reset.
I bought the phone 2 weeks ago, after i sold my Apple iPhone 3G 8GB. As we speak, i kind of regret i did that...any advise for me ?
I forgot to mention: when i plug the uSB cable, the device goes recharging.
Have you tried booting your pc ?
Also try unchecking Settings/connections/Usb to Pc/ "enable faster data synchronization"
r
Andrew
What cable do you use? I had similar problems with non original (asus) usb cable.
greetings everybody..
1) i tried what you said several times, no result.
2) i get same results with the original and the other cables..
3) i noticed one thing . . . if i connect the device to a computer that i never conected before the device, it launches active sync....and Active Sync just wont interact with my device.
Did you try reinstalling ActiveSync on your PC?
yes i tried....same result. Do you think a change of ROM would solve that ?
Now, even a syncronisation using bluetooth is almost impossible, since i cant pair the computer and the device. Damn, it's like a virus or something.
stupid thought:

Impossible since i cannot connect using USB. Sorry !
I too had problems with my PC not recognizing the HD. Found out that it was a problem with my firewall and anti-virus. I adjusted anti-virus settings to allow active sync to pass through and have had no problems after that.
HTC also recommends going to Start --> Settings --> Connection tab --> USB to PC and deselect the checkbox for "Enable faster data sync"
For device recharging when plugged in to USB : go to Start --> Settings --> System tab --> Power. here below the battery charge indicator, there is a checkbox. Read the message and check/uncheck as desired.
Hope this helps !!
i thought one potential source for my problem would be the antivirus, but i disabled firewall (eset at work and symantec end point protection at home) and no result what so ever.
I cand figure a way to sync the device even with the bluetooth since i cannot pair the device and the computer.
I am starting to regret i bought HTC...
Try click the Activesync icon on HD Program, there is a "Option" on the menu, click and see if you could delete all the old connect. If yes, re-establish the connection again to see.....good luck
Option menu item is disabled (i performed several hard resets)...(
Another thing i noticed. I unchecked the box (when connected to USB charge), so now when i plug the usb cable, it wont charge. But, if the device is in stand by (black screen), and i plug the usb cable, it wakes the device up. So, in my mind, i think it is something wrong with the OS, it still "feels" the USB cable, but cannot (for an unknown reason) take the necesary action.
For 4 hrs i try to sync the device with the computer using bluetooth, and i cannot manage to do so.
Is there any way to reinstall ActiveSync on my HTC device ?

Tonight i will try to install at home Windows VIsta (at work and at home right now i have XP). I cannot use my phone - no phone number in agenda and it's driving me mad. The phone rings and there are quite a few persons i dont want to talk with.. HEEEEEELP
nobody there to help me ?
If you did a hard reset, and you can connect in drive mode, but can not sync, then I am 99.9% sure that there is nothing wrong with your phone, but that your computer is messed up.
Uninstall all your antiviruses, firewalls, and other bloatware, and see if it works then.
Just a possible solution, but did you try plugging in your phone into other USB slots on your PC? Are you perhaps trying to sync it through an USB extension cord, or maybe USB hub? I had problems with my PC recognizing the THD if I tried syncing that way. Best results were plugging it directly into the back side of the casing.
The reason I'm asking this is that if you have too many USB devices plugged in, it's possible that the USB voltage drops too low and devices won't connect to the computer.
I tried on 5 different computers, all available USB ports.
On a new computer, sometimes on the device screen it shows up Active Sync but that is all, no sync occurs. If i try again on that computer, i get the same result as i get using the computer at home or work.
The device cannot conect as a Disk Drive
Is there a way to reinstall Active Sync on HTC ? My guess is that this software is all gone with the wind (even i performed a hard reset). The big question is what the hell happened ? Could be a ROM fault ? I mention i never tried to change ROM, the only software i installed was S2U2 and Core Player.
If by monday it wont work, then i'll send it into service (i have warranty). But i hate service
all out of ideas...
Any ideas ?
Which items are checked when you go to Settings/connections/Usb to Pc/ on youre phone?
Have you tried to use another memory card (because youre problems started with copying)?
Hi there,
I've had my HD2 for 2 weeks now and its been working perfectly. I decided to hard reset my phone and start again from scratch. However, now when I connect it to my PC it doesn't connect or recognise it at all, it charges though. I also tried it on my laptop, thinking it might be my PC but its just the same. This is really frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Goto "Start/Menu/All Settings/Connections/USB to PC" and ensure ActiveSync button is green.
If you are running Vista or Win7 you have to install Windows Mobile Device Center. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
If not the normal Active Sync will not see the phone.
Hey guys. I know this a old thread. I notice ever since I used the program here to change the radio on my htc hd2 that my computer no longer detects my phone with snyc cable even if I have Windows Mobile Center 6.1 installed an such. The programs pop up though when I look on device manager there no unknown devices or anything. In fact I don't even hear a sound of any sort that a usb device was plug into my pc same thing on my laptop. I even put back original tmobile rom on my htc hd2 no resolve. When I fflash it with Leoimg.tbh or how ever you spell it I put it in my sd card. Any ideas on how to get the old phone to work on windows 10 again? or is something mess up in the coding on official rom or on how I flash it back to stock?. I wish I had a old pc with windows vista to see if it just windows 10 or what. Just seems so odd
no reaction from phone nor pc
Hi, guys i have similar problem, but it has nothing to do with Active Sync. The device won't notice that it is connected to the pc (it won't ask (this option is ticket) if it should act as card reader, modem or Active Sync) so as pc won't show new device. Strangely, while the device is connected into an outlet charger via cable including data wires and "don't charge if connected to a pc" option is ticket in hd2, it acts as it is connected to a pc and won't charge. When it is connected to a charger with unseparable cable (which i suppose hasn't have data wires) it starts carkit menu. For me it seems like something is shorted but i'd like to hear some other suggestions before i try to disassemble it and look inside.
Something happened with my HD2. USB charging functionality works, but connectivity - not.
Computer shows message "USB device not recognized"
Tried on different comps, XP, Windows 7 - nothing. Soft reset, pulling battery, changing options on USB in Settings didn't help.
Any ideas?
You have ActiveSync (XP/2000) or Windows Mobile Center (Vista/7) installed?

Have you tried a different usb cable?! Anyone you know have a HD2 you can test it out on?! If something doesnt work on my HD2 I try it on my girls just to double check?! When you plug it in do you get a the option of choosing active sync or hard drive?!
Another thing it could be, and I need an answer to this myself, is that when you first plug the phone into the PC, the device presents the option of ActiveSync or Data Transfer, with an option of "Do not show this again". If someone selects Data Transfer, and clicks Do Not Show Again, how can this be reversed or undone? I have a user that cannot Explore through ActiveSync because he likely selected this option.

Jimbo, you can re-enable that in settings-connections-USB to PC, there a checkbox there labeled "ask me first about USB connection..."
DocAlex, did it connect properly in the past? If so, I'd start with toreone's suggestion and find a way to test with a different cable and/or PC.

Yes, installed. Also tried different cables, one of them was it's OEM cable.
Manipulated with USB setting on phone - didn't help.
Checked wet indicator - it's white.
Did nothing with - on some morning, after full night charging, connected to USB and got it. Bluetooth sync works on same computer...
Looks like USB controller died
Did you try connecting to a different computer?
Thanks Phunkeefunk!
Finally, after and hour on tech support call, T-Mobile agreed to replace it. Already got new, used SPB Backup, very easy transferred all from old one to new. USB obviously works on new.
So - some time USB controller can die ...
Hi, I have been rooting and ROM-ing my LG E400 for a while now, and I have come across a problem.
It seems I have accidentally deleted my usb driver on my phone, so when I connect my phone to a computer it charges, but i cannot access the phone through the computer in any way.
Can anyone help???????
I think you can select what your phone has to do when connected to an USB somewhere in the settings. Make sure to let your phone connect as a media device, because that way it'll give you access to its internal and external SD card. Also, if you have a PIN/password lock screen, you need to unlock your phone after you plug it into the USB otherwise it won't give you access.

I have searched every crook of my phone but there are no usb options available. They used to always pop up when I plugged in the usb, but they are unaccessable to me. When I plug it into a computer, the computer does not even recognise it as a connected device. This has happened with every computer i have connected it to.....

Good Luck :good:
try to download and then install DRIVERS of your phone in your computer maybe the DRIVERS are missing in your computer
Hi everyone,
This is my first post about my Note 4, and I'm really frustrated.
All I wanted to do was transfer some music to the SD card on my phone, and I've just wasted the entire evening and have nothing to show for it.
I'm running Windows 8.1 on my PC and Android 5.0.1 on my Verizon phone. When I connect via USB, a popup in the system tray says that it has identified a Samsung File-Stor Gadget USB Device and assigns it drive letter F:.
However, almost instantly, Windows decides that my phone is a modem! USB Safely Remove and Device Manager both call it a Samsung Mobile USB Modem, and Explorer does not show a drive F:.
The Notification dropdown displays "Connected as a media device", and when I tap on it, I can see that "USB computer connection set to Media device (MTP)" is checked.
I installed the latest version of Samsung Kies on my PC and ran it, but it fails to connect to the phone.
Can anybody tell me what's going on? Thanks!
P.S. Ironically enough, even though I can't do anything, I can't stop the device because adb.exe has the connection locked!
Card reader is less hassle. Cables as you know are unstable at times.
I would try going into Device Manager (or maybe Devices and Printers) in the Control panel, right clicking your device and uninstalling it.
Reboot and let Windows detect the device again when your reconnect the phone.

Good idea, but I checked and it wasn't there. When I connect, a new Modems entry is created in Device Manager, but when I disconnect it disappears.
I might have to go w7excursion's route. Thank you both for your suggestions.
