Hello,
I need to extend an antenna on my Ipaq 614. It is possible using that "universal" USB connector (where also headphones connect). (I could buy this active cardle for cars which has also antenna connectors, but I'd like to do it as last solution)
Does anyone from you have spcifications for this USB connector?

The external GPS antenna connector is on the upper right side under the grey rubber cover.
Sure - I know, but I need to extend GSM antenna.
I don't think extending gsm antenna thru USB is possible. The USB port is for charging/syncing/handsfree. The gsm antenna is placed somewhere under the camera I think, so no way of extending it. You can try updating to the latest Firmwares (0.88 or 0.89, which has been unoficially released on this site). The older firmware 0.77 has some problems with signal reception so I guessthat's ur problem. On the boot screen (when you turn on your device) on the lower left corner are displayed the OS and FW versoons - if you have FW 0.77, then that's not solved by poking and eventually destroying your device but with software update. The USB port of this device is very easily broken, so be cerfull what you stick in it.
by the way, i wold like to build my own audio usb cable for the iPaq 614c. has someone the wiring scheme for this special stereo usb output ?

For your information,
I did buy a miniUSB to jack 3.5 designed for Motorola, and it doens't work.
I did buy a miniUSB to jack 3.5 designed for HP from there and it works.

Connector near camera is just for GSM antenna.
update of firmware will not solve my problem, because I live in are where is really poor GSM signal (also other phones has no signal).
If there is no antenna interface on USB - how does those car cardles with external antenna work? (see https://www.expansys.com.au/d.aspx?i=168529 - it has:
"Integrated in the Mobile Smartphone Cradle is an external antenna coupler. Which makes it possible to connect an external GSM antenna to the FME Male connector. The external antenna coupler provides a solution to decrease the GSM signal radiation on the vehicles electronics.")

Just had a look there really is a hidden connector under that rubber! is that really for GSM antenna though?

The XDA II has an external antenna socket, but I can't find what it is. I need to use an external as my boat acts like a faraday cage and kills all the signal!!
Even O2 don't know what the connector is. Can anyone either tel me or point me to an adapter / connector?
Looking at the back of the XDA II, its a hole with a rubber plug in it to the right of the camera lens. I don't know about connectors or adapters though.
on the back in the upper right corner is a black round plug.
(I really start to dislike DCS always two seconds earlier with the same answer )
LOL sorry
The antenna I use is from a Sierra Wireless AirCard 750 and I believe you can purchase replacement antennas as well.
I know WHERE it is but no-body seems to know WHAT it is. Even O2 tech support said they would have to ask the manufacturer (but they didn't know how long that would take)!
Have you checked through an electronics supply catalogue (on / offline)?
Try RS components, Farnell, etc.
E.g. on RS site:

XDA II Antenna
Hi Guys,
I'm a member from Mtekk.com.au and this is my first reply here. I have found the Cellink Patch Cable for Motorola T720I, part number CAL2585 fits the XDA II antenna socket perfectly. As for the name of the connector, I haven't found this out yet. All I know, it isn't the connector pictured in an earlier post!
Checkout Cellink for the patch cable I use.

I'm about 90% sure that its an mmcx male connector (thats what the socket looks like to me) you need to be able to plug into the XDA2,
I'll double check in my connectors book at work tomorrow and post here

I have already searched for this... Now, having the right patch cable in my hands, I can say with 100% assurance that it isn't an MMCX male connector. It looks like a micro-miniature RCA male connector (no such thing, just my way to describe it!), with the outer shield contact cut into four. I have attached a pic of the MMCX connector specifications, and these look nothing like what is on the back of the XDA II. If you do find a match on the type of the connector, I would be very interested to know.
If you are interested in seeing the pic of my patch lead, follow this thread at Mtekk.

Can anyone confirm that the Universal does not have USB host. Most places just say no but there isn't really any hard evidence of it. I know the processor supports it but did they put in the necessary circuitry for it? Whats strange is that the Universal's miniUSB port is the same as my Sharp Zaurus's miniUSB port and my USB host adapter fits in. Does not fit into normal miniUSB ports. Just the Zaurus which had USB host and the HTC Universal. Just seemed a bit odd to me. I tried it of course and did not do anything.
I'll experiment with this further and check that image of the mainboard closely.
everybody who posted about it in this forum reported it to not support host
connector means nothing all htc devices since the universal have had the same connector
heck these days they are talking about making it the std connector for all phones nokia and the likes too
This all hinges on the connector, and the hardware used to drive the connector. The Universal(and indedd, all mobile devices) use mini-USB connectors, which do NOT incorporate a host control circuit. This means that, since USB uses a protocol that might be termed as "Speak when spoken to", your device can answer the computer when it asks, it can NOT ask another device to speak to it.
To sum it up, you can't connect a pendrive to your PDA, but you can connect it to your computer, precisely because of the lack of the USB host controller unit.
Hope this cleared it up for you...
Cheers
This is not what I meant. I'm talking about a specific type of miniUSB connector.
And in the recent announcement to make a standard cell phone connector, they chose microUSB.
This is what I mean.

HTC Universal's miniUSB port.
A normal miniUSB port.
My miniUSB -> USB host adapter from my Sharp Zaurus fits into only the Zaurus and the HTC Universal. Doesn't do anything in the HTC Universal though.
Not possible.
If you check on the internals, you will find that there is no power output to the usb port in anyway. so, its a hardware limitation and there is no way it will support hosting, be rest assured!

I found a thread in the German PPCWelt.info forum where several people say that there MDA Pro supported USB host, with a special driver:
http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=74113&highlight=mda+pro+usb+host
I don't know how reliable this is (not every USB client can act as a USB host because of different hardware AND software), but perhaps you want to try it.
Alex
EDIT: They also say that your USB device needs a power supply because the MDA can't do that (external hub). Other people even say that without such a power supply your MDA could be damaged. This Engadget article is also mentioned:

Any Mini-Usb charger should work on the Tilt or any other device with a Mini-Usb port. I have used my Razr's on my Tilt and Hermes and on a sony and a nokia.
I think we need to settle this once and for all.

As we see the USB Connectors are on the Top and the "specialized audio connectors" on the bottom. Notice Pin 1 is Power, No other are power.
Now lets look at Mini-USB Series B, the standard USB connector on these Chargers.
Source: http://www.accesscomms.com.au/reference/USB.htm
Notice When you hold the Mini-USB Type B Connector with the Shorter part down that Pin 1 is to the far right. Pin 1 is also Power.
Code:
Mini-USB Type-B Pinout & Cable Color Code
Pin Wire Color Function
1 Red V BUS (5V)
2 White D-
3 Green D+
4 Not connected ID
5 Black Ground
Now we look at the ExtUSB diagram notice the bezel near the end with Pin 5. Notice Pin 1, which we know is Power, is to the "left." It matches up perfectly with Pin 1 Power on the USB Connector.
Also notice on Mini-USB Type B that there is no Pins on the Bottom to interfere with The Extra Pins on the HTC ExtUSB port.
So as long as the charger only provides power on Pin 1, which any good charger will, it will work with the Kaiser.
wikipedia's USB Article said:
The USB specification provides a 5 V (volts) supply on a single wire from which connected USB devices may draw power. The specification provides for no more than 5.25 V and no less than 4.75 V (5 V±5%) between the positive and negative bus power lines. Initially, a device is only allowed to draw 100 mA. It may request more current from the upstream device in units of 2 mA up to a maximum of 500 mA.
[...]
On-The-Go and Battery Charging Specification both add new powering modes to the USB specification. The latter specification allows USB devices to draw up to 1.5 A from hubs and hosts that follow the Battery Charging Specification.
Click to collapse
So If the Charger Provides up to 1.5A via Pin 1, it should work.
*Caveat: I don't know for certain that the HTC Kaiser draws 1.5A, but I'm sure it does. Hypothetically, on a USB bus the Bus will not provide more power than the Device Actively draws. So if for some obtuse reason HTC went against all Smart Design and Engineering, and created a Device with a Mini-USB Type B connector that couldn't handle 1.5A. A charging only charger that feeds it 1.5A it may blow it out.
I could not find any information on this. If someone knows or has a data sheet that says the HTC Kaiser can draw up to 1.5A then any charger that doesn't provide more then 1.5A will work fine. Any decent Charger maker would know that USB devices cannot handle more then 1.5A. Thusly not providing more then 1.5A on a charging-only charger.

I have tried a simple adaptor and it did not work - there are very similar looking adaptors that are OTG though.
Personally, I prefer to use a mini Bluetooth keyboard with integral "mouse" touchpad or an OTG cable to connect a similar USB keyboard rather than an OTG adaptor as I worry that I may lever the adaptor by catching it and cause damage by the straining the micro USB socket in the Note.
When you plug in an OTG adaptor or cable, the Note comes up with the message "USB connector connected" - a plain adaptor does not cause a message.
The picture below shows, from top to bottom, OTG USB adaptor connector, OTG USB adaptor lead, Wireless mini keyboard with mouse "touchpad", Bluetooth mini keyboard with mouse "touchpad".
Both mini keyboards came with wireless or bluetooth receivers which do not work with the Note as, I assume, they need "Windows" type drivers. The Wireless one cannot therefore be used with the Note (even though it also has a mini USB connection - probably only for charging use) whereas the Bluetooth one does work can as it connects using the inbuilt Android/Note bluetooth rather than using the supplied mini USB bluetooth receiver.
Hope this helps!

USB-OTG (they're all the same) works perfectly with some USB keyboards and mouses but not with all of them. I'm using Genius mouse and Microsoft Wired 200 keyboard.
Thanks, i'll try it. If it works it works
btw, neat bluetooth keyboard/mouse you got there!
I have a mini-wireless USB keyboard/trackpad from Kogan that looks closer to the mini-Bluetooth one in the 2nd post, and that works fine with my usb2Go adaptor and the Note. I know both look similar, but the button configuration under the trackpad on mine is the same as the Bluetooth one.
I like the idea of the bluetooth one mind you!

Thanks for that info, very useful. I'm considering getting one, can you advise where you got yours (a link would be great, if not, a manufacturer name and/or part number would do ... worst case can you advise approx price & dimensions?)
Although I have a USB one I bought from Kogan, this thread made me aware that there were now bluetooth ones too, so I've just ordered this one from Ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rii-Mini-i6-Bluetooth-IR-Keyboard-Touchpad-2-1-UK-Latest-Version-2011-/250901297139?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_KeyboardsMice&hash=item3a6ae1f7f3#ht_2215wt_905
It seems to be a slightly later design/model than the one shown in the 2nd post here, but you can find that too if you search ebay with the term "mini bluetooth keyboard rii".
Regards,
Dave
looks good - the universal learning IR remote is a nice add-on too. Let us know how it performs when you get it ...
meantime, I see you've got a wireless USB k/b already working via USB OTG. I'm awaiting my OTG adaptor so I can try that out with my existing (compact, but not mini) wireless k/b with optical trackball. Not sure how much current the Note can supply for OTG usage but I guess I can just use a powered hub if required?

That's a nice heatsink. First off that's a recent unit have you contacted your seller for warranty replacement?
I don't know about the CSN2 MCU but if it's anything like an MTC MCU the MTC schematic I have shows all the USB devices connect to the MCU controller. The WiFi card is connected through USB to that controller. I don't think the controller is the issue but all the USB ports and WiFi get their power from a 5V DC-DC converter (MP1584). If you can try and check if there's 5V on the USB ports without shorting anything out that should tell you if that's where the problem is.
Then there's 3 possibilities the DC converter is not getting a signal on the enable pin, the chip blew up or one of it's external component has a broken connection. Considering they solder everything with that crap RoHS solder it's more likely the last one.
All that circuitry looks to be located on the left side of the board. Inspect closely looking for something that seems odd or burnt... If you are handy with a soldering iron you could start touching up all the large pins like on that smaller black electrolytic capacitor. Test if it works. If not re-solder the surface mount components then test again. Leave the chips until lasts. And use 60/40 tin solder sparingly.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
The USB port powers my USB key, it turns on when I plug it in but it is not detected.
I have the impression that it is the data that is not processed. Do you know where the USB and WIFI chip is?
I put another photo.
I contacted the seller I am waiting for a return.
I think I found the USB chip, it is on the px6 card.
I have 5v in in at terminal 23
I don't know if it changes anything
That CSN2 MCU is very different than the MTC ones. It looks like the WiFi and bluetooth are on separate modules and it looks like the bluetooth module is that vertical blue board. The WiFi antenna lead is on the opposite edge of the MCU board. There's a good chance you'll see another board near that wire on the bottom side, that will be the WiFi module.
The GL850 chip is a 4 port USB hub, it's interesting they have it on the SoM instead of the MCU but that also means all the USB ports go through the header connector. It's possible they have the WiFi module connected to the hub. That would make a convenient common point of failure. Check the GL850 for 3.3V between V33 and GND. There should also be 3.3V on the AVDD and DVDD pins. If not try to re-solder the pins on the large square components near it and the crystal too (top left).
There's an odd looking reflection on the SoM header connector 7th pin from the left in the MCU picture. Also, it looks like someone reworked the solder on the chip a little more to the left and did an awful job of it. Just a note about the header connector. The female side is a bit fragile and a few people have had troubles after removing the SoM. Be careful to insert and remove it straight down. Going a bit crooked can cause loss of contact with the pins.

Hello guys, I don't start another thread because I have a similar problem with a PX 5 unit.
So, long story short:
I bought 2 years ago an unit from Isudar: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32852058644.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dMlYtQt . It has Android 8 and 4Gb+32Gb(I guess they updated model) which came defective(the LEDs from buttons panel didn't light up). Contact seller and they sent me a new LED board to replace. I have replaced the board, the LEDs were good, but the screen start to flicker(not very bad, but annoying). Contact seller again, and they sent another screen to replace. After replacing screen, the flickering didn't stop, but seller stops responding messages. Because of the time spent to receive goods from China, I couldn't start a dispute, so got a defective unit. I didn't used the unit for a period of time because I got another car which has a bluetooth unit.
A few days ago tried to start unit but got other problems:
- The Wi-Fi don't work anymore(option to enable Wi-Fi is gray and cannot be enabled, MAC address is 02:00:00:00, IP unaveilable)
- The Bluetooth don't work( device name and PIN are blank, the search couldn't find nearby devices)
- The USB ports(it has 3 USBs) don't work. The unit has a SD Card slot which is accesible.
I try to repair it(at least Wi-Fi, bluetooth and USB) and that's why I need your help.
As far as I can see, the Wi-Fi module is A5BC6 3214, and the circuit it is soldered is marked GOC-MD-705D and read that this module is resposible for Wi-Fi and BT. Can you recommend an replacement for this module? I have searched on aliexpress but got few results and I don't know what to choose.
https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot...&orderId=95366376728004&productId=32852058644 is the original unit link.
