Email on X1 - XPERIA X1 General

Hi All,
I've setup my email accounts on my X1 now... one quick question. If I delete them from my device, do they get removed from my mail server?
Cheers,

There's an option to either delete them off the server, or move it to trash. Look in the settings.

Thanks I've found it now.

I had the same issue with my Polaris. I can't find the resource that told me how to fix it, so I'll just tell you:
1) when creating the new account, DO NOT enter your gmail address in the first page of the wizard; instead type something like [email protected] so that the wizard doesn't auto setup for gmail.
2) point your browser to this gmail help page and use the information from the Standard Instructions section.
3) two VERY IMPORTANT things to remember!! I learned them the hard way
a) be SURE to disable IMAP and enable POP. The link to do this is in Step 1 of the Standard Instructions. Before enabling POP, though, if it says POP is already enabled, DISABLE IT FIRST, then click [Save Changes] then go back to the page and THEN enable POP and [Save Changes].
b) remember to ENABLE SSL for both the incoming and outgoing mail servers. you have to use the port numbers provided, but there's no place to enter them, so enter them like this in the server name fields:
POP3 server name: pop.gmail.com:995
SMTP server name: smtp.gmail.com:465 -or- smtp.gmail.com:587
4) after the wizard is finished and your new account is created, go back and edit the account and enter your correct gmail email address, and it will allow you to change it without goofing things up.
Hope this helps! I have to do this every time I change ROM's, which seems to be every few weeks these days, and the above instructions work for me.
Cheers!! --Jesse
Should THIS INSTRUCTION not be the one for setting up an imap google account on WM6?
I didnt try it myself til now cos my HD will only arrive tomorrow morning. So no garantee if it will work or not. Only looked up in the Gmail Help Section for Settings for a WM6 Client over imap.
Give me some feedback if I am wrong.

You can go to the Gmail help page and get all the settings to set up a pop account also. I used pop for years but now that I've tried IMAP, I'll never go back because to me it is so much better. I can see all of my emails sent and received on all of my computers, no more manual syncing. Anyway I guess you have your reasons for preferring pop over imap. Good luck.

Yes, that was the page I was looking for and couldn't find, although it was for imap config, so I'm glad I explained it.. Thanks!!

Never knew it worked that way. I prefer POP because it just seems to take way too long to check for new IMAP mail because it has to load in all the folders, then load in all the headers, then load any new messages. I thought IMAP was supposed to be the new better way, but for me it just seems to take much longer, and I only use gmail on my mobile and from web browsers. I'm open to suggestion, though, especially if I'm missing something that would benefit me

You're right that it does take longer to get imap mail on a PPC than pop, but the difference is only 1 or 2 seconds.
Benefit example: I am at home on my laptop and send out several emails with information that I found on the web etc. I then go out and have my phone with me, I forget something that needs to be added to the already sent emails. Gmail IMAP allows me to look in my sent folder and reference the emails. Gmail also will fetch emails from other accounts so that you have them all in one place. You can even reply to emails from other accounts and have them sent out showing that they came from the original account. I promise I don't work for Google I just like my IMAP email.

That does sound handy! I appreciate you taking the time to answer. As for gmail performing 'proxy' services for your other email accounts, that sounds way too cool. I'm going to look into that... Thanks again.. Jesse
Just a note on Gmail Imap: In the U.S. Imap version only for the moment you can activate Advanced Imap Controls in Labs, and then choose the Imap folders you want to see under Settings. And in Forwarding and POP/Imap you can configure to acutally immediately delete messages, not flag them for deletion. In order to see and test the Labs offerings you can change your default language to English, and revert back if you like.

Webmail Link in Email Tab?

Hi everyone,
This is my first post!
I have a quick question regarding the email tab in touchflo 3d.
I've successfully set up google mail and hotmail accounts in windows mob 6.1 and the email accounts are displaying correctly in touchflo. However, I need to access my work emails from time to time and the only way of me doing this is via webmail that they have set up. I've set up a favourite within Opera and can browse and log into this without any issues but It would be great if the link to the webamil could be contained within the "mail" tab in touchflo.
Is there any way of doing this?
Many thanks,
Darren

HELP!! Cant delete email accounts from Mail tab

Hi
I hope someone out there has come across this problem and found a solution.
I created a hotmail account and it was working for a while then just decided to stop working. I tried to delete the account and start again but it just wont let me delete it. I have a yahoo account and it will quite happily let me delete that one, but the hotmail account is greyed out so cannot be selected.
I've look through all the menu's and gone through various suggestions I have found on here but to no avail.
I now have 2 email accounts (both hotmail) that no longer work and I can no longer delete.
Help Help Help!!
Have you tried to go to Manila Email tab and press menu -> account settings?
Do it and tell me if you see the accounts.
Are you using SWYPE?
If so - dont use swype anymore as i had the issue that the mail accounts disappeared as the entered data wasnt saved.
If you can open up the account settings just fill in the empty fields like pop/imap server and smtp server and password if it disappeared too.
Holla at me if you still need help and figuer out that i was right
Hi
I'v look at account settings and the 4 email accounts I have are there, but the 2 hotmail accounts i set up previously (the one's i'm having problems with) are there but they are greyed out.
I cant select them at all to delete them.
No, not using swype, i'm still on the standard 1.43 rom from 02 UK.
Hi
did you find a solution, I have the exact same problem
Cheers
Andy
Just a stab in the dark, but have you tried installing (or if you haven't update Windows Live through the Windows Marketplace app)/reinstalling the Windows Live app?
I know from experience the version off the marketplace is newer than the pre-installed version and overwrites the old version and so may overwrite/get rid of the unworking Hotmail accounts?
and don't forget that if you signedinto the live app it creates an undeleteable hotmail account that only disappears once you log out of the live app
Hi
thanks for the suggestions, the account is not created through Windows live. I created it by putting in the pop3 and smtp details, its been working OK since just after Xmas. Only thing that as happened recently, is that like others have mentions some of my other email account settings got lost. The email account was set up following the instructions in tip 43 from the Tips and Registry tricks post at the top of this forum. I have other accounts set up in the same way and they are working OK.
I am running stock WWE 1.66 rom
Cheers
Andy
Guys, what worked for me is:
Go to inbox through the Mail tab.
Choose Menu.
Choose Tools
Choose Options
Touch and Hold the account and choose Delete.
Bye Bye Greyed out email account.
I have to make a note that some options of Manilla does not work, but if you approach it from Windows options, then it works.
Good Luck, people of XDA.
In my case it was because I was signed in to Windows Live. Just go to the Messenger screen, option, and choose to change account, and press yes. The account will disappear.

Email Sync Problem - delete items

Quick question guys:
1. How do you setup the email client (yahoo for isntance, or google) in order to delete the files from the server too?
When I delete them, the HTC Sense email client moves the deleted emails to a folder named: Deleted Items. However, when I click on - Tools -Empty Deleted Items it doesn't delete the emails contained there on the server.
Many thanks for helping!

Outlook mail problem

Hello,
Every time I open an email in my HD2, it deletes it from the server. In outlook it's easy to do, but on the HTC I can't find where to configure to leave the messages on the server. Can you help, please?
Thank you.

im 100% convinced there is an option to leave messages on server, because i ran seven email accounts when i was on winmo, and they all left them on the server until i sent/recieved from outlook.
Edit the settings for the email account, its definitely there, im sure.

If you are using POP, go into the account settings and keep hitting NEXT until you get to the screen with "Automatic Send/Receive". There is a link to Advanced Settings at the bottom. The advanced setting screen has options on deleting messages.
I don't think there is any choice with IMAP; it automatically deletes the emails. I don't use the Exchange server, so I don't know what it does.
