When connecting my MDA Pro II to my laptop the connection via bluetooth gets established alright and I can surf the internet for a few minutes. But then the connection breaks down, as the phone has switched off bluetooth by itself! I cannot switch it back on, and I will have to reset the phone altogether to start anew. Does anyone have the same problem or a solution? Thanks!
Same here!!!
Turn off Pushmail and other apps
Turn off any app that might use the NET.
I got so freakin' frustrated with this before I had a bright moment
(first one ever)
Turn of activesync, pushmail etc on your device, SPB GPRS monitor, any app that tries to connect.
Your modem function just can't stand that.
I want to setup my P3600 (English ROM) as a 3.5G modem for my PC but not successful yet. The Telco service staff has no idea too and pass me a manual for dopod 838 pro. The mentioned programs are not there, nor in my dopod D810 CD.
I can:
- Activesync using USB
- Activesync using bluetooth
Question:
- Should I use the same HTC modem dialer on my PC for XDA?
- Should I use the Start->Program->Internet Sharing?. It allows me to choose bluetooth or USB to PC but both not working too after connect.
Anyone successfully connect their PC via P3600 using HSDPA, pls share the steps. Many thanks.
Eventually, I figure it out myself.
Forget all the HTC modem dialer or wireless modem program as in Xda.
1. Start->Program->Internet Sharing on WM5.0
2. Select the connection type: USB or BT
3. Select "Connect"
4. Then connect the USB and done.
For BT, it would have instruction for you to start PAN now. done.
Woo, it's much easier than the HTC dialer. But now my problem is VPN problem with my telco.
Thanks very much for reporting this info back, it will come in useful when I get my trinity!

Sadly, because Internet Sharing is actually a NAT server running on your phone, it could prevent you from using 'classic' VPN. You can find more details by googling for 'VPN over NAT'.
for VPN purposes you can always use old good wireless modem mode. it works well.
I don't think it is related to NAT. As long as the VPN ports are opened, it should work. I am using a Wireless router at home and no trouble at all for using VPN under NAT.
Checked with telco. They can enable it for me with extra charge/month. and also the traffic would be charged as expensive GPRS plan. What kind of service!!!
Think twice before subscribing. I used "WonToFee / 1-1-" . The sales that say it can work for VPN may not even know what a TCP port is.
Anyone has use VPN over HSDPA with another telco? e.g. SMOOTH TONE
Hello,
This thread is a bit old, however I think it is related to my problem: I am trying to use Internet Sharing on my P3600 (ROM 1.23.405.2 / Radio ROM 1.38.00.11). Using BT, it works just fine. However, when connected on USB it works fine only for the first time. When I tap "disconnect", the HSDPA connection is stopped, but the status keeps displaying "Connected". There is now way to use Internet Sharing again before a soft reset (Windows XP wouldn't even recognize the P3600 again). Is this a known issue? I have googled a bit, but I haven't found any similar problems.
Thanks!

Hi shefful,
I have had the same problem. I have come across a possible solution while browsing forums. When you need to disconnect press and hold down the red end call button for a few seconds and this disconnects the modem. I haven't tried this yet but it's worth a shot.
regards
Adam

Hi adamwolfe,
Thanks for your help, unfortunatelly this is not the solution to my problem. The GPRS connection ends (according to the icon on top of the screen), but the status keeps displaying "Connected". The application stops responding and can't be stopped from Settings/Memory/Runnning Programs.
Hi shefful,
Yeah, I have the same problem too. Looks like the program freezes in the Connected status. Even tried terminating Internet Sharing with Start/Settings/.../Memory/Running Programs and relaunching Internet Sharing.
Sometimes I get a popup message saying the remote host has terminated the connection before the program hangs. I think this may be the cause of the problem. Which mobile operator are you on?
Rebooting is the only solution so far. Fortunately the Trinity reboots in 20 seconds - one of the fastest in the PPC market I think.
Hi ayhansan,
For other reasons I needed to hard reset my Trinity and the freezing problem has disappeared. I don't know what had caused this problem, I just hope it won't happen again. If I disconnect the USB cable, the status changes to "disconnected" and I can always reconnect.
same problem here
i am connecting to laptop thru USB
after I disconnect UMTS phone syaing still connected
and want kill Internet Sharing
???
thanks

does this work with Mac as well?
I'm using a 8525 with the latest ROM from Cingular. I was scared of the new pan profile, but it turns out to be far more reliable than stupid bluetooth DUN.
Now my only annoyance is that I have to go in and start internet sharing every time on the 8525. It would be ideal if I could just initiate the connection from my computer (macbook pro running 10.4.9) and not ever have to touch my phone.
I apologize if a solution has already been discussed, I searched around but couldn't find anything.
My only idea would be a mortscript assigned to a button that will go in and start sharing automatically. But that is only one step better than going in and running the software.
ideas?
Sounds to me like mortscript or skschema in your StartUp folder is probably the best option.
One of the problems with that is the settings get reset every time I disconnect from PAN network sharing. So I have to restart the app each time.
Similar to the concept of connecting to the internet automatically when needed, there must be some way to enable bluetooth internet sharing automatically when needed.
I have noticed that when I am turning off my WIFI connection and I forgot to turn off Opera the phone starts connecting via GPRS. Since I don't have a limitless data plan I would like to get a question before connecting to GPRS. Is there a way to do this?

Ditto.
I've tried creating a 'dummy' connection and it'll happily say the default network is 'dummy'... And then connect via Orange WAP. I'm tearing my hair out... :/

Hi All,
I have just got an iPAQ 5450 and it all works fine apart from WiFi, the problem is that WiFi only works when it's in the cradle and as soon as I take it out the cradle it stops but it still says WiFi is still on??
If anyone could please help I would be most great full, thankyou very much.
Almoace.
unless you confuse connection icon with wifi being connected icon
it sounds like a hardware issue
Connection
If you are connecting via the cradle, you are connected by "USB" not wifi... even if wifi is "on".
When you want to connect via WiFi you will need to set up a completely different setting with your PC and ActiveSync (if you are using Windows). I have found that you sometimes need to delete all prior network connections with any other device before an iPaq cooperates.
The iPaq 5450 is not a phone and the WiFi was designed as a primary source for connecting, as a result they have excellent WiFi radios. You really should not have a problem connecting, just do a little more research and I think you will be fine.
Thanks for your help guys, on wifi setup I do have different profiles so I'll delete them and start again with a new profile and after going into every part of the iPAQ I have found more connection settings that are, Internet Settings, Work Settings & Work and also there is dialing Locations so by the looks of things I will have to restore the setting to default and start again.
If / When I get it working I will report back here so you know I have it working and for any other ppl that may have the same problem as me.
Thanks again guys I'm very greatfull
