Problems with Synaptics Package under Intrepid Ibis - Shift General

It took me a while to get the package pov had assembled for Ubuntu's Hardy Heron release to work.
But afterwards everything was running smoothly, except that some (Windoze) based DHCP servers caused my Network Driver to kernel crash.
So I updated to Intrepid Ibis, and that indeed solved the problem with the network driver.
But now the synaptics package doesn't seem to work right no more, as the mouse pointer jumps all over the screen when I use the touchpad.
And only doing things via touchscreen doesn't work all the time, in some cases one has to be able to use the mouse.
But the touchpad has now become almost unusable.
Does anyone know how to get past this ?

Review: Testing my new Celluon CL850

I just received my CL850 virtual Keyboard today. Try to set up, it is easy - medium setup. It took me about 30 min from installing the drivers and connecting it to my HTC Tilt. It work on my WM 6.1 Dutty's Rom with a WM5 (the latest driver).
The keyboard overall is very good, if you want me to rates from 1-10 with 10 is the best, I will give 9. It is easy to type and adjust the sensitivity, I can see cleary even I am in very bright room. And the keyboard stroke sound can be adjust into four levels plus no sound, with quick function. So you don't need to be worry bothering other people if you are in a library.
The downsize of the keyboard: (1) it only can use on flat surface, so you need to place it on the table, (2) You can't assign a button on some of 4-unassign keyboard keys. I try to look at the manual so far but can't find any guide how to do it. I will try to contact a customer service if I can assign a button. It will be very helpful if I can assign those 2 soft left and right buttons key.
It is my first day got the item, I still need a further test and lets you guys know. Thanks
Nice, I've never seen a review on this keyboard before, only some previews. I have the iTech VKB but I don't like the fact that it lacks usb connection as I would like to connect it to my PC. Yes I know you can connect it with bluetooth but I would like to use it when entering the BIOS and also choosing OS to boot.
Does it work with USB on a standard PC without drivers or do you have to install the ones from Celluon? I'm asking this because I rarely use Windows. I read that it does indeed require drivers and therefore won't work on for ex. Linux based phones or Linux PC's.
I have an iTech VKB but it only has bluetooth and the quality is not that good. It tilts over easily too.
One problem with these keyboards are that if you typ a key that is between to IR sensor and another key you are typing it won't register. It does also not like too many simultaneous presses.
I really like the fact that you just need to swipe the table instead of opening the keyboard when it gets really dirty inside.
Well this is very interesting but It's expensive at least if ordering to Sweden.
I just got one today and It's the greatest "keyboard" I have used ever. It works all the way from bios to the Ubuntu desktop. It's much better than the itech vkb. The more solid construction prevents it from tilting as easy as the itech. It seems I have to adjust sensitivity however. The touch-pad feature is great and it feels to me like it supports multi-touch. Finally no more cleaning of the keyboard.
My current problem is scrolling in touch-pad mode. Arrows and dragging the right bar works but I would really like scrolling in the middle.
I thought the silverish button on the top was a push button but it was actually capacitive.
I haven't tried bluetooth because Ubuntu has currently big trouble with bluetooth.
Another problem is when playing games that require WASD and the mouse. The touch-pad feature won't work at the same time as the keyboard except the most basic buttons like ENTER and ARROWS.
PS. CTRL-ALT-DEL works (emergency reboot).
cl850 celluon laser keyboard/mouse on wm6?
I've gotten the keyboard to work via bluetooth and it works amazingly on my omnia wm6.1; had it working on previous dell axim x51v and palm tx... BUT, I haven't been able to get the mouse portion to work under wm... both keyboard and mouse work great in XP... any suggestions?
What drivers are you using and how did you set them up on wm6.1?
I have tried all the latest drivers from Celluon on my HTC Fuze p4600 and none will go.
I get an 'initialization error' when I try to run the setup util on the phone.

I get the same error when running the software on my Touch Diamond. This happens when running their app from the control panel.
From their site i've tried
SmartPhone [WM6.0] PKSetup_v1.9 / PocketPC WM6PPC_PKSetup_v1.9
Rob
Rob,
I did actually get this device to function with my p4600. I have since switched to another device, however, if I remember correctly I think it was the pocket PC 2003 drivers (not smart phone) that I FINALLY got to work, though the keyboard function was rather choppy while typing. You also have to start (and leave running) the Virtual KB app every time you want to use it.
Under XP, Vista and even Win7 the keyboard functions surprisingly well.. I just wish there were more support for mobile devices, which is where this device would really shine.
Interesing, i've just tried
Smartphone - [WM2003] PKSetup_v1.1.exe and it has a start menu app instead of control panel, that program does find the keyboard and it works. It seems accurate but its really slow, ie typing hello, you finish and then it start's its clicking noise and the letters appear.
The previous ones I tried was WM6.0 version 1.9 under both smartphone and PocketPC, although both zip files are identical size.
So when you used it and it was rather choppy, too slow to actaully use? Just wondering if the WM6 ones would work at a good speed if they worked.
http://www.celluon.com/common/data/list.html?a_gb=data&a_cd=3&a_item=0
The 2k3 drivers were the only ones I could get to function at all, and yes it was too slow to use. I assume this poor performance is not caused by a limitation of the phone or the keyboard because like I said in the previous post it functions flawlessly on a PC (XP,Vista and Win7) as well as with my Nokia (Symbian) device. This of course leads me to believe that if the correct driver or driver program existed and were used then this lag in typing would go away.
On another note it seems there are some people that have no problems using the WM6 drivers on their 6.1 devices which makes me think the incompatibility could reside on the device manufacturer side of things.. IE HTC has some setting or settings enabled/disabled in the OS which makes the driver program error out. I can only assume it would be an easy fix.. if it were just known what the problem is.
I have sent several messages to Celluon about this matter and receive nothing in return. I am afraid its just a defunct company at this point. Its ashame because its such a great little device. I don't think there are enough units out in the world to receive much community support.
oh man
I have one and I love it to death, but it does NOT get along with windows mobile 6.5
anybody seen any anything resembling a glimmer of hope? I've seen some of the stuff the xda beasts do, there has to be a way to get this to work.
Ive got the latest WM driver i could find on the celluon site & it all installed fine on my HD2 the only thing is i cant get it to connect via bluetooth, when i try & connect im asked for a passcode & whatever i enter it just says there was an error.
EDIT: Solved that, got all the way to selecting Projection Keyboard in the keyboard menu, then i get an error 'The security account database contains an internal inconsistency'

Bluetooth Keyboard for HTC touch pro?

Can anyone suggest a good bluetooth keyboard for the touch pro? Im planning to use it for typing down notes. has anybody here been using an external keyboard?
I've got an old foldup stowaway bluetooth keyboard (with a dell label)from thinkoutside - might me 'igo' now. I got working in about 10 seconds on my new touch pro. If you want something portable its great, and even has a little stand hat the tough pro can sit in, on its side or upright. The batteries last for months.
Freedom BT Universal Keyboard
I'm using for several years a BT Universal Keyboard of Freedom, link here
Working very well on my Unviversal, TyTN and TyTN II. Have had some problems with the drivers for WM 6.1. Another problem is getting additional unlock codes for use on your new PPC. I'm waiting now for about 2 weeks to get a new unlock code for my TP. The hardware is very good and the power consumption very little. Recommanded!
I have a Freedom Universal Keyboard that worked great with my Tilt. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to connect to my Fuze, and I've had many emails with tech support from Freedom and so far they haven't come up with an answer. It's not an unlock code issue, they were very prompt to email me a new unlock code when I switched to the Fuze. But for some reason, my Fuze won't recognize the keyboard.
I got spoiled having this keyboard with my Tilt, would take it to meetings, etc and type away rather than writing notes. I've got to figure out a new option for a keyboard.
I also have the Freedom Universal Keyboard, and it connected to my Fuze immediately with no issues (as opposed to my old Kaiser, which took multiple tries). Are you connecting with SPP or HID profiles? I connected with HID -- WM6 has HID drivers installed so you don't have to install any software.

If any reader of this post would know where i might purchase a portable key board compatible with the HTC Touch Pro and what the formula, if such type keyboard exists, is, via which to enable such keyboard so that it can be used with an HTC Touch Pro, if whomever might have such information, would share such with me, i would be most grateful.

Exactly -- I use the software built into WM6. Not using the
driver means that the programmed keys don't work (i.e. the shortcuts for launching apps), but I'm OK with that.
If you want something small, get yourself a FrogPad - they are one handed keyboards. Might take a little time to learn, but it wouldn't be too difficult. I've got a Bluetooth model here from my office, so I might test it out in the near future.

How do you use the software built into WM6.1 to connect? I tried not using their software and just turning on the keyboard, but nothing happened? Could you walk me through what you do, if anything to get the keyboard to connect to the Fuze?
I didn't do anything special. I just turned the keyboard on in HID mode, pressed the pairing button (the round one with the letter B), and then put the Fuze into discovery mode (add new device in BT connection). The Fuze saw the keyboard, and asked for a passcode (I entered 0000). and promptly connected to the keyboard.

[Q] Downgrading to 7, drivers compatibility

You will have to excuse me if this has already been asked and answered somewhere. But I'm really pissed off at the moment and could easily kill all the developers who worked on Windows 8. To cut long story short, Win8 has caused me a lot of problems and I wish to downgrade to win7. So here's my question. I have an Asus laptop which has drivers only for Windows 8 (I realized this too late). I'm wondering if I can run Win7 normally with generic drivers that are not laptop-specific?
Any helpful answer is greatly appreciated.
Sent from my cracksperia Arc
While I'm curious about these problems you mention, in actual answer to your question, it entirely depends on the hardware in your laptop. Stuff that Win7 supports natively with generic drivers, such as USB2, typical mice and keyboards, SATA HDDs and SSDs, and so on will work out of the box. Some components, such as the video card, will partially work with generic drivers but you'll want to download Win7 drivers for that hardware to get full features. Other hardware, such as USB3 ports, WiFi, and any sort of touchscreen, will almost certainly have Win7 drivers available but may not work at all until those drivers are installed (as the drivers probably won't be included in a standard Win7 install image). It's pretty unlikely that any of the hardware in the laptop will *only* have Win8 drivers, but you may have to go hunt down the correct drivers from non-Asus sites, or find older Asus laptops that have the same hardware but were supported with Win7.
Thank you for your answer. And about my problem. The instant I log in, windows automatically logs me out, as if it cannot start explorer.exe and userinit.exe. I tried EVERYTHING, check disk, reset, repair, I cannot enter safe mode as I need to log in to enable that (why oh why did they have to remove F8 on boot?). The only thing that's left is clean install. I never had such problems with Win7 and earlier versions.
Edit:
I'm curious about the difference between drivers for graphic card from asus' website and nvidia's website. Does Asus alter drivers in any way?
Sent from my cracksperia Arc
The drivers from NVidia will actually be BETTER than the ones from ASUS. The ASUS ones wont be updated as frequently. Otherwise the ones from ASUS are just NVidia's ones repackaged
I have never heard of your issue before though.
Actually, that depends... if the machine supports switchable graphics (say, Intel integrated as well as NVidia), you'll need the correct drivers to support that switching. Just installing the NVidia drivers will work, though, and it's true that they'll likely be more up to date.
NVidia's reference drivers for mobile devices also tend to be really buggy in my experience, though - things like preventing the computer from entering sleep or hibernate, or running the fan too much (even when not needed) and wasting battery life. They seem to be un-optimized for mobile machines, which OEMs sometimes fix for their specific models.

If you google a bit, you'll see quite a number of people having similar or same issues, as a matter of fact. And no solution for the problem except a fresh install.

Yes, that's my case. I have both Intel and NVidia. As far as I'm concerned, I don't mind not having regular updates, or updates whatsoever if the drivers are stable and working.
By the way, thanks to you I searched for older Asus' laptops with the same hardware with Win7 drivers and found one. So now I have pretty much everything of importance working (ethernet, wifi, graphics card, etc.), though most of the Asus' software doesn't work as it claims my laptop is not made by them. Silly laptop specific OS restrictions.

[Q] Lubuntu

Has anyone tried Lubuntu on the shift. Its the light version of Ubuntu for older computers. The readme says suitabel for computers no older than 10 years so I gave it a try.
It works and looks good quite fast very much like XP however the usually things dont work out of the 'box' touchscreen, SD card slot and wifi. If anyone has tried this and found a fix I would be gratefull for help. By the way i have used a wifi dongle in the usb port for now and that works ok.
The version I'm on is 14.10.
On one partition, I have Xubuntu 14.04, and I have some of the same problems you have--sd8686 wifi problems, especially (so like you I use a dongle). I think my sd card slot is broken, since I can't even get it to work in the stock Vista Business.
In Xubuntu, I did not have trouble with the touchscreen, which was OOTB.
Still, my go-to is Hardy 8.04.1 It's much kinder to the cpu, I can undervolt it, and pof's magical setup lets all the hardware come to life (except my sd card...). Yeah, it's ancient and no updating it, but Chrome 12 will work on it and sync bookmarks, etc with more current Chrome. I wouldn't do my banking on it, though
Hardy 8.04.1 also installs well on a usb drive, and I always like to have back-up Linux that can usb-boot, particularly on these old machines.
Jake
Thanks for that I will try Xubuntu and Ubuntu 8.04.01.
I might have a look at doing triple boot with XP, Lubuntu and Xubuntu if that is possible!
If you do use Hardy, make certain that you do not install a version higher than 8.04.1
This is b/c pof's magic http://pof.eslack.org/2008/04/14/linux-on-htc-shift/ only goes up to kernel version 2.6.24-19 (which is in 8.04.1). If you do choose to get that far, I can post the undervolting files for that kernel, which reduces fan use.

Once again thanks for the tip Jake I did in fact start to install the higher release.
I now have triple boot
1) XP Pro
2) Lubuntu
3) Ubuntu 8.04.1
My screen calibration is slighty out by about 3mm is there a way of calibrating the screen, haven't had time to try xinput_calibraton yet.
Allan
If you've installed pof's one-click setup, the go to terminal and run:
sudo TouchKit
On the second or third tab of the gui, there should be 25-point calibrator. If your pointer is off, you may have to use the tab key to get to it. But once the calibration starts, you'll be able to use your pointer.

I bought from these folks, a no-name thing. OOTB, though. Haven't had your wifi issues, but I use the internal wifi/Hardy almost 100% of the time.
Glad to hear you got the touch screen in order.

Potential fixes for the joy-con issues?

Hey guys and gals, so ive been playing around with the android release since launch and im still yet to find a fix for the joycons not working correctly in anything, I have flashed the joyconfix that was released and it changed nothing, tried different versions of dolphin etc (can map all the keys and thumbsticks but they dont work in game) I have not been able to get the thumbsticks to work in any game/emulator
as of now the only solution is octopus to remap onscreen controls, the problem here is that it stops the joycon being detected in an app at all and requires all controls to be mapped to the screen, so instead of just having the 2 thumbsticks on screen (livable for now) I have to have the full set of on screen controls cluttering the screen,
has anyone come up with a solution to this issue? I know im not the only one who flashed the joycon fix and received no change,
Thanks!
Ally.

Hey did you try to mount system in Twrp and flash after that?
I have the joycons working on using the flashable fix but as some people point out the LEFT and RIGHT sticks behave like digital buttons not analog.
I used gamepad tester and it shows only one value once you push the stick after a certain threshold.
Any fix hopefully is available

I believe we will need someone to write a HID driver for this. Joycons are pretty useless without proper analogs sticks at this time.

You are right.
Joycon which is connected normally via BT don't give us the analog input data.
It's needed to handle the BT packet data like the following (handle_input function).
https://github.com/fossephate/JoyCon-Driver/blob/master/joycon-driver/src/main.cpp
I have no idea how to get raw BT packet data and generate gamepad input on android, though.
*edit
I've found the Joy-Con input driver for Linux.
https://github.com/riking/joycon
If this driver can be built into the android OS image, joycons could work properly?
I'm not familiar with android and linux. Sorry if this is totally off the mark.
I installed the patch this morning and made some tests with different Emulators. Here are the results:
Retroarch: Working in Menus. Working in games when controller set to Retropad with analogue, tested with N64 and GBA Cores.
John NESS/ John Gameboy: Working in menus and games.
MegaN64: Working in menus and games.
PSSPP: Working in menus & games.
Dolphin, EPSXE, Reicast: Working in menus, recognized when mapping, but don't work in games.
There seems to be a pattern here that suggests that they are recognized as D-Pads, with the exception of the N64 Emulator in which it works as expected (Maybe the N64 stick wasn't analogue to begin with, I don't know that)
I also downloaded the Gamepad tester and both axes are recognized but I don't know how to distinguish D-Pad input from analogue input.
Just my two grains, as others pointed out, it seems that Analogue input isn't transmitted over bluetooth as of now.
My Joycons worked in Steam Link before flashing the zip and without needing to remap in the app
The joycons are working properly for me but without true analog sticks, it´s almost useless to me since most 3d games need some precision.

We do, just doesn't work correctly with Oreo bt stack
how do you get gamepad tester to recognise the controller? mine doesn't find any gamepad connected. besides that all the listed problems are the same.
I flashed the zip and that broke steam link.
can anyone send me the original files?
How do I install the joycon fix?
One of the solutions i found was to use usb/bt controller 2019. You can map the joycons to be a keyboard, mouse, touch events, or other inputs that are other controller buttons. It's a little convoluted to get setup but out of the 5 mapper apps i tried (most being paid for) it's the only one that actually works correctly. With a custom filter you can even use the dpad as 4 individual buttons. I've been struggling to find a good joycon to touchscreen mapper and it's the only that ended up working and it works great.
The only outstanding issue is the joycon HID driver isn't actually analog for the sticks but for how i'm using it that's fine. Just need to workout a fix for the analog sticks to be analog.
So I guess the current situation is still no analog joycons?
