Review: Testing my new Celluon CL850

I just received my CL850 virtual Keyboard today. Try to set up, it is easy - medium setup. It took me about 30 min from installing the drivers and connecting it to my HTC Tilt. It work on my WM 6.1 Dutty's Rom with a WM5 (the latest driver).
The keyboard overall is very good, if you want me to rates from 1-10 with 10 is the best, I will give 9. It is easy to type and adjust the sensitivity, I can see cleary even I am in very bright room. And the keyboard stroke sound can be adjust into four levels plus no sound, with quick function. So you don't need to be worry bothering other people if you are in a library.
The downsize of the keyboard: (1) it only can use on flat surface, so you need to place it on the table, (2) You can't assign a button on some of 4-unassign keyboard keys. I try to look at the manual so far but can't find any guide how to do it. I will try to contact a customer service if I can assign a button. It will be very helpful if I can assign those 2 soft left and right buttons key.

Nice, I've never seen a review on this keyboard before, only some previews. I have the iTech VKB but I don't like the fact that it lacks usb connection as I would like to connect it to my PC. Yes I know you can connect it with bluetooth but I would like to use it when entering the BIOS and also choosing OS to boot.
Does it work with USB on a standard PC without drivers or do you have to install the ones from Celluon? I'm asking this because I rarely use Windows. I read that it does indeed require drivers and therefore won't work on for ex. Linux based phones or Linux PC's.
I have an iTech VKB but it only has bluetooth and the quality is not that good. It tilts over easily too.
One problem with these keyboards are that if you typ a key that is between to IR sensor and another key you are typing it won't register. It does also not like too many simultaneous presses.
I really like the fact that you just need to swipe the table instead of opening the keyboard when it gets really dirty inside.
Well this is very interesting but It's expensive at least if ordering to Sweden.

I just got one today and It's the greatest "keyboard" I have used ever. It works all the way from bios to the Ubuntu desktop. It's much better than the itech vkb. The more solid construction prevents it from tilting as easy as the itech. It seems I have to adjust sensitivity however. The touch-pad feature is great and it feels to me like it supports multi-touch. Finally no more cleaning of the keyboard.
My current problem is scrolling in touch-pad mode. Arrows and dragging the right bar works but I would really like scrolling in the middle.
I thought the silverish button on the top was a push button but it was actually capacitive.
I haven't tried bluetooth because Ubuntu has currently big trouble with bluetooth.
Another problem is when playing games that require WASD and the mouse. The touch-pad feature won't work at the same time as the keyboard except the most basic buttons like ENTER and ARROWS.
PS. CTRL-ALT-DEL works (emergency reboot).

cl850 celluon laser keyboard/mouse on wm6?
I've gotten the keyboard to work via bluetooth and it works amazingly on my omnia wm6.1; had it working on previous dell axim x51v and palm tx... BUT, I haven't been able to get the mouse portion to work under wm... both keyboard and mouse work great in XP... any suggestions?

What drivers are you using and how did you set them up on wm6.1?
I have tried all the latest drivers from Celluon on my HTC Fuze p4600 and none will go.
I get an 'initialization error' when I try to run the setup util on the phone.

I get the same error when running the software on my Touch Diamond. This happens when running their app from the control panel.
From their site i've tried

I did actually get this device to function with my p4600. I have since switched to another device, however, if I remember correctly I think it was the pocket PC 2003 drivers (not smart phone) that I FINALLY got to work, though the keyboard function was rather choppy while typing. You also have to start (and leave running) the Virtual KB app every time you want to use it.
Under XP, Vista and even Win7 the keyboard functions surprisingly well.. I just wish there were more support for mobile devices, which is where this device would really shine.

Interesing, i've just tried
Smartphone - [WM2003] PKSetup_v1.1.exe and it has a start menu app instead of control panel, that program does find the keyboard and it works. It seems accurate but its really slow, ie typing hello, you finish and then it start's its clicking noise and the letters appear.
The previous ones I tried was WM6.0 version 1.9 under both smartphone and PocketPC, although both zip files are identical size.
So when you used it and it was rather choppy, too slow to actaully use? Just wondering if the WM6 ones would work at a good speed if they worked.

The 2k3 drivers were the only ones I could get to function at all, and yes it was too slow to use. I assume this poor performance is not caused by a limitation of the phone or the keyboard because like I said in the previous post it functions flawlessly on a PC (XP,Vista and Win7) as well as with my Nokia (Symbian) device. This of course leads me to believe that if the correct driver or driver program existed and were used then this lag in typing would go away.
On another note it seems there are some people that have no problems using the WM6 drivers on their 6.1 devices which makes me think the incompatibility could reside on the device manufacturer side of things.. IE HTC has some setting or settings enabled/disabled in the OS which makes the driver program error out. I can only assume it would be an easy fix.. if it were just known what the problem is.
I have sent several messages to Celluon about this matter and receive nothing in return. I am afraid its just a defunct company at this point. Its ashame because its such a great little device. I don't think there are enough units out in the world to receive much community support.

I have one and I love it to death, but it does NOT get along with windows mobile 6.5
anybody seen any anything resembling a glimmer of hope? I've seen some of the stuff the xda beasts do, there has to be a way to get this to work.

Ive got the latest WM driver i could find on the celluon site & it all installed fine on my HD2 the only thing is i cant get it to connect via bluetooth, when i try & connect im asked for a passcode & whatever i enter it just says there was an error.
EDIT: Solved that, got all the way to selecting Projection Keyboard in the keyboard menu, then i get an error 'The security account database contains an internal inconsistency'

Wireless keyboard?

HI!
Does anyone know if there is a wireless keyboard that will support wm6.1? I bought an igo and it was fine on my jasjam (running wm5) but when I upgraded to wm6 it stopped working and igo will not release new drivers for it. I now have a kaiser but still want a wireless keyboard

My igo stowaway worked fine on my wm6 kaiser... and works fine on my wm6.1 omnia

can you please tell me what driver you used? My igo stoaway keyboard only has drivers for wm5 and PPC2003

The stowaway 5 driver works fine on my kaiser... the omnia worked out of the box.

Here's the driver i use for my stowaway... works flawlessly.

The built in keyboard is so....er... whats the world that isn't great... barely acceptable?
The stowaway on the other hand has proper keys, like the ones on a real pc keyboard. Along with a nice set of keyboard short cuts and a control key!
The built in one is fine for a quick text message. But if you're planning on doing any writing for longer that 10 minutes the stowaway is an amazingly good investment.
So If i'm on the train, I open my stowaway, put the pda on the built in stand, and type. just as quick as a laptop and nowhere near the bulk.
The one in the thumbnail looks very similar to mine.

all you need is
an external keyboard, larger external screen, better antenna, maybe some proper dasd...
Get a netPC!

I used it in landscape but here's someone with a Kaiser who used it in portrait...
I used to use the stowaway iGo keyboard with my Tilt, it's great for all the reasons psionandy said, but...
mrg2003 has a point, and so now the iGo is used with this:
BUT for the same reasons psionandy said... it also has a built-in qwerty, but to borrow on mrg2003's sarcasm, it IS a full Windows XP Pro computer, and setting it up as a portable workstation with an iGo and a mouse is a breeze.

Would I use my iGo keyboard with my Tilt again? Not really, because the built-in qwerty is good enough for on-the-go, and if I have plans to do more than momentary computing outside the home, I take the UX with the iGo and just use that. BUT... not everyone has a UX like I do, SO THAT SAID, if you want to do extended computing on your Tilt, yeah, the iGo keyboard is the WAY TO GO.

Tilt and Stowaway
Just got the IGo Stowaway for my AT&T Tilt and it seems to work out of the box with WM6.1 - except for the function commands (written in blue). Does anyone know if the driver is needed for the function commands to work properly, or are those "blue" commands on the Stowaway for some other PDA?

I love my Celio Redfly.
keyboard/monitor expander/powers my Tilt.
Works out of the box.
Smaller keyboard than the stowaway... much improved screen.

I use Apple Bluetooth keyboard and Apple Might Mouse xD

I'm not sure why your iGo Stowaway isn't working. I had trouble getting it to work at first when I tried downloading the .cab directly from my Tilt. When I installed it off my PC it worked just fine. Maybe you have a corrupted .cab. I've been using my Celio Redfly almost exclusively lately and have to say it was the best $100 I've ever spent. It powers up instantly, has amazing battery life, and is very portable.

Where did you find a RedFly for only $100?? I've been planning to get one, but $200 seemed a bit much.

Oops, sorry that was a typo. Don't like using the thumbboard for long text. It was $200. However, the new models that are coming out come in 2 flavors. I believe the smaller, more portable model will be under $200. Even at $200, it was worth it and not for oh aah factor either.

The Celio Redfly is a larger keyboard and 800x600 WVGA display extension device for your WM phone. You connect your phone to it via USB or Bluetooth and it replaces your phone's display and key entry functions. Plus, connecting by USB allows it to charge your phone while connected. It has no OS, memory or processor of it's own, using strictly what your phone can bring to the party. It's your WM phone, but with keys you can actually type on, and a display you can actually see; plus the ability to attach USB devices like a mouse. It resembles a small very lightweight laptop, and has about an 7-8 hr battery life. Just Google it for more info, my friend.

my keyboard works just fine on 6.1. i use the native built in WM driver. you dont get to use a lot of the functions on the keyboard (apps, ok, send, inbox etc) but it works just fine. and honestly, its worked on every single 6.1 rom i've used. something might be up w/ your keyboard

I'm using my old "Palm Bluetooth Keyobard model#3245W" no drivers just pair and its a "HID" device and thats it. Just type away....
Just no hotkeys or special stuff like that. I like it better because its a "Full Size qwerty keyboard" with numbers across the top.

HTC HD as drawing board

I bet there is someone asked this before, but I seached the forums and didt get any results.
Since the HD got such a big screen in size, it could be cool to be able to connect it to a PC and use it as mouse like a drawing board. I downloaded Paint to the mobile and worked great to draw with the pen, so maybe it could be possible to make a program to use it as a mouse?

Could you install and use the Remote Desktop client on your Touch to control your computer mouse?

Have you tried Gremote? You can connect via wifi and use your screen as a touch pad, and you can also use the accelerometer to control you mouse pointer.
I've only tried it on Kaiser, so not sure about working with the WVGA screen.

I found (I can't remember the name) a program, which I used for my old Acer n35. I could use the 3 inch screen as a mouse pad, but it didn't work with WIFI...

[Q] How to get Freedom Universal bluetooth keyboard working?

Hi All,
I've tried KeyPro and BlueInput to try and get my Freedom Universal 1 bluetooth keyboard working on my HD2 running MCCM's Desire Build v4 and no luck
I can get the keyboard to pair with KeyPro and SPP protocol but not connect and could get nothing with BlueInput and HID protocol
Anyone out there had any success with connecting a Bluetooth keyboard that may be able to offer me some tips or step by step to get mine working... or even suggest a different Android build that might work?

Yes, there is a simple procedure for doing this:
1) Enter the wireless & networks section of the settings menu on your Android 2.3 device
2) Make sure Bluetooth is turned on, then enter the Bluetooth settings menu.
3) Turn on your HID device and enter pairing mode
Your keyboard should show up as its self
4) Touch and select pair with this device, when prompted enter a pin code (choose your own, I used 1234)
6) On the your bluetooth keyboard enter the same code followed by the enter key.
(This worked for me on 2 different HID keyboards.)

I have similar issue with HTC Desire HD running Droid 2.2.1
I have Freedom Universal Keyboard (v1 and v2)
I can see the keyboard in Bluetooth and can pair (using 0000 1234 1111) putting this in the keyboard too, but when I hit enter on the keyboard it says "paired but not connected"
I installed KeyPro and can scan and find the keyboard
I unselect Use Native Library
When I select KeyPro as the input method it comes up with a KeyPro icon "Connecting" but nothing happens after that
I have tried pressing the B key and entering the same code on the keyboard as entered on the phone when pairing (followed by enter) but to no avail
Just tried BlueInput - what an awful looking app. again it discovers the keyboard but says "ERROR: Failed to open connection to KEYBOARD"
Any tips please?

Before going and buying Freedom Pro keyboard the manufacturer simply say Universal and Universal 2 too old...

I bought myself a BT keyboard and the supplied driver wont activate (problem with the manufacturer)
I used BlueInput which does work but I had to follow the instructions on their site as you do the steps in a different sequence.
Its not the best but it does work, there is a HID Android driver on XDA somewhere but this would not work with my keyboard

I am typing this from a freedom universal 2 kb that I just got somewhat working on my htc EVO 3D. The basic keyboard works fine (only in HID) but the special fn's do not. As it was a bit tricky and inconsistent I thought this post might help.
What I learned is this
I can pair but not connect the kb to the phone in SPP
Passcode prompt for above is always 4 digits
I can pair and connect the kb to KeyPro in SPP
I cannot pair (nor connect) the kb to KeyPro in HID
I can pair and connect the kb to the phone in HID
The passcode prompt for above varies from 4 to 7 digits. Read below.
Regarding the latter above, this was tricky. If you get a 4 digit passcode prompt (0000 or 1234) it would pair but not connect.
Turn off the phone bluetooth and turn back on and rediscover the keyboard until you get a 7 digit passcode then type it into the kb and hit enter. Do not make the phone discoverable. Let the phone find the kb. This pairs and connects great every time you on| off the kb.
So I conclude that since KeyPro only works in SPP, but the phone cannot , KeyPro cannot be used.
But the kb can in HID with the phone. I still can set the input method to KeyPro so
The phone does not pop up the input or swipe kb when I choose to use my bluetooth kb.
Also, tried the Freedom Pro android driver but would not connect to the Universal 2 kb.
OH WELL, AT LEAST I CAN USE IT FOR BASIC TYPING IN CONJUCTION WITH A FEW POKES ON THE TOUCHSCREEN TO NAVIGATE BETWEEN APPS. For as far as I know no BT Keyboard works on any Android rom with Sense.
Correct me if I'm wrong

I'm not a dev just a power user. I'm again using my BT kb to input this reply. I'm on a stock EVO 3D using Android 2.3.4 and Sense 3.0 stock (not rooted). Works great. The OS has provisions for HID support but not SPP support.
Also, BlueInput did not work. Guess I'm waiting for the OS to offer SPP support before I can use KeyPro.

I'm posing this I finally figured out how to get my keyboard working from some of the sugestions in this Group, I have a generic keyboard I got from ICEMonkey.com 14.99.
At 1st it wouldn't pair and the instructions leaves something to be desired. (I can't even tell you who made this KB)
So How I got it to work
1.)Installed Bluetooh Keyboard Easyconnect
2.) Rebooted -- Important Step
3.)Tried to Pair and was asked for a passcode
4.)Used a SEVEN digit code. I used four and it would pair but not connect.
5.)Then entered that code on the keyboard and press enter on the keyboard
When I did that the KB connected in HID mode

It still works!
Thanks a lot! Your advice is spot on. It works on my Galaxy Note 8.0 running 4.2.2. The crashes go away after keying in the registration key.

Universal 2 KB working on Samsung S3
I recently picked up a "Freedom Universal 2 Keyboard" produced in 2008 by Freedom Input.
That company has now disappeared into a larger entity and all the keyboards up to the Freedom Pro (2010) have been discontinued. They are getting hard to find, but remain a favourite amongst users. Limited support remains available online.
The Google Play Store apps are a mixed bag. "I-Connex Freedom" app explicitly reports it does not support the Universal 2. "KeyPro" does work with the Universal 2 but requires a fairly hefty payment to get full access.
I found a free Android 2.x through 4.x driver produced by Freedom Input that is still available from their support site online:

For my S3, it turned out to be fairly straightforward:
1. Transfer .APK file into my rooted phone, launch a file manager, install the .APK
2. Turn on Bluetooth on phone
3. Switch the keyboard to HID and press the large "B" button (top left of keyboard) for 5 seconds to make keyboard discoverable.
4. Pair the keyboard from the phone's bluetooth settings page.
5. Choose "connect" once pairing completed. Tap the gear symbol next to "Freedom keyboard" if necessary to begin the process.
6. Enter the code using the keyboard that appears on a pop-up screen on the phone, and press Enter/Return.
7. Once connected, the keyboard can be disconnected and reconnected from its settings screen inside the phone's Bluetooth settings, without re-entering a code.
8. Launch a programme that requires typing and start using the connected keyboard. There may be a slight delay between key-press and on-screen result, especially at the very beginning. So far I find lag is acceptable based on my 50wpm typing speed.
I have found that I can enter text both from the on-screen keyboard and the Universal 2 keyboard without switching back and forth.
Hope this helps anyone working with this very handy legacy hardware. Since the Freedom keyboards all relied on removable AAA batteries, they will not become paperweights due to the inevitable failure of unremovable internal rechargeable batteries. Depending on how you treat them and what becomes of smartphone technology, these keyboards could well last a number of years into the future.

Freedom Pro Keyboard to Wileyfox Swift
Knock me down with a feather, I've just fired up my old Freedom pro bluetooth keyboard and followed the advice above, hey presto, connection and full functionality.

[Q] Keyboard and Mouse for motorola defy

I just came across a video on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fihLIwIZovY) but i would like to confirm here if any of motorola defy users are using some sort of keyboard and mouse (Bluetooth based HID) ? any market availability

I just bought a BT Keyboard with Micro-Usb Charging port. That way i dont have to carry two power cables.
I will report back when it arrives.

can you send me the links from where did you get it...even when it arrives do share how it works on defy.

I am using my trusty old Nokia SU-8W folding BT keyboard. It needed a "helper" app in 2.1 but runs perfectly in 2.2 without. Seem to be a few on ebay, though if you're in 2.2 I imagine any good BT keyboard might work. Though I would confirm before buying. I am on stock USA t-mo phone, 2.2.1 Has no mouse. Has a slide-out to stand the phone in (similar to the video), but has to be "loaded" from within the phone. ("Initiate pairing from phone"). In texting the return key actually does a "return", not send. It sits up high enough in the built-in stand to use the lower nav keys.
Copy & paste are the only things I'm still trying to sort.

Is there any keyboard in the market that also have mouse (trackpad) support which can be used on defy's browser..!!??

There are small keyboards with trackpads from the same company, too. I dont know if they work but as BT Mouses should work with 2.2 flawlessly i think these devices should work too.
As long as the device works with Android in general it should of course work with the browser too.

I think better use a PC.

Ah, i forgot to report back.
The keyboard is working with my windows 7 pc but it is not working with my defy.
I get it to connect to the defy and show up as a connected HID device but it wont recognize any keyboard input.
I am searching for a stock rom with bt-keyboard support at the moment...
and "I think better use a PC." is just about the dumbest answer you could give.

I bought a Logilink ID0070 bluetooth keyboard and it doesn't work. Neither in CM7, nor in CM9 I can type something on this keyboard. It is paired with my device but nevertheless it didn't want to do something else.
Is there already a solution to this problem?
