3D Films on the X1 - Got to be tried ! - XPERIA X1 General

Iv just bought it...Journey to the Centre of the Earth, one of the first of the next generation of 3D movies for the 2D screen.
I spent an hour like an excited school boy decoding it ( DVD Catalyst 3 ) and copying it to my X1... and the verdict on the X1 is...Brilliant
Gone are the blurred images of past 3D systems, the whole movie and everything in it is 3D, even the most ordinary of scenes look brilliant, its like the film is inside your X1.
There is a slight green tinge to the colour of all scenes that is the only minus on what is a brilliant 3D effect, crystal sharp, objects look both inwards and come out of the screen.
When I watched the first 5 mins on my computer I did flinch a few times, this bug thing with antennas on its head, looked like it was poking around inside my head, I physically had to turn away from the screen, me a grown man
Of course you do have to wear goggles, 2 provided with the film and they are different to the old style, which dont work, with the film. The new goggles are called Trio Scopics, they are green and magenta, the old were blue and red.
The is the future of entertainmnet, games and hopefully some genius will develop a 3D UI for Windows Mobile and the X1.
Im going to try and recreate some 3D images for powerpoint and have a 3D effect for my presentations, how hard can it be, to create an offset blue and red shadow, using the old system and goggles, the new system, is too difficult.
Journey To The Centre of the Earth copied to your X1 is highly recommended, who cares if you look like an idiot with cardboard goggles on, it is tremendous fun, and now its mobile
Go on dig your goggles out, you know you've got some

Provide a link please.

Here is a link to the web site, the DVD I bought in the UK comes with 2 free googles, the new kind.
http://www.journeymovie.com/
Im going to watch it right now
The film and 3D effect is better on the X1 than it is on the TV, I only have a normal catho ray TV, not a flat screen HD jobby.
Its like your X1 is a little window and the film is actually happening behind it, and sometimes in front of it. It is clearer sharper, the colours are better and there is only slight discoloration on the scenes. The further you stand away from the X1 screen the greater the 3D depth. Its made for the mobile.
Im hooked on it, I never want to watch a normal film ever again.

DVD catalyst 3?
Cool!!! Thank you soooo much as I have been looking for a good converter.
I bought the piece of isht Magix Movie to Go2 and that is the BIGGEST PILE OF CRAP EVER!!!!!
I will get Catalyst and this movie (for my kids right?).
Thanks again.

Here is the web site for DVD catalyst 3, it takes Video straight from DVD into a file to be copied to your X1, you can alter resolution, bitrate, format everything.
http://www.a3vs.com/products/
Heres what I convert at, but you may find something better.
Format : h264_ipod
Bitrate : 500 kps
Passes : 2
Resolution : 720 X 576 ( actual DVD source resolution )
Audio 64 kps ( stereo )
3D Journey to the Centre of the Earth is mega, the quality is well watchable on the X1, better than on the TV, and very enjoyable, even for grown ups
If you have some of the older standard 3D goggles, blue and red, I am going to post a 3D slide slow to browse on your X1, to give you a taste of what 3D is like on the the small screen.

3D capabilities of the PocketPC

Hello,
I have two concepts for games to be specially developed for the pocket pc platform, they're both, in my opinion, very solid concepts and most importantly they capitalize on the touch-screen interface of the ppc.
I am, by trade, a 3D artist, I've worked on a few games before and am familiar with working within polygon count restrictive environments but have never been required to do anything for ppc, not many people have apparently judging from the lack of content out there.
So my question is, can a good 3D engine be developed for the platform and how restrictive would the limitations be, also, how much more difficult (if any) is it to code for than x86 (I'm not a very good coder so I wouldn't be doing any of the programming)?
Seeing fpsece (playstation emulator) run at relatively high speed on my XDA II gives me hope, because we all know how inneficient emulation is, so surely a native renderer could achieve spectacular results?
This would be a paying job of course but I need to work out if it is viable first.
Thanks for any input you may have.
The first idea is a sword fighting game where the touchscreen controls the positioning of your character (ie; sword up, sword down, move back, jump, duck, strike forward, strike downward) in 3D using an end chain effector using an inverse kinematics chain setup.
I've seen lots of flash (macromedia) demos that achieve similar things, not in 3D, but there's no reason it can't be done, I can setup a rig in softimage that can do more or less what I'm talking about in real time.
Second idea is a 3D flight combat game on rails, going through many environments you play the gunner on a craft (not a spacecraft since it can also travel through atmosphere), I've already got a voice actor for the female pilot - she controls your flight path and you just have to handle the weapons systems (think mechwarrior 2, where you had a hugely interactive control panel; shields forward, shields aft, charge EMP, weapons selection etc.) - think miniguns blazing, targetting missiles, exciting environments to zoom through and a good story behind it. Inspirations for this one were einhander (psx) and mechwarrior 2 (pc).
I'm not going to go into too much detail on here but if I can get some programmers interested then we can really get these projects moving.
well being that doom1 2 quake 1 & 2 and dukenumem 3d and heretic and hexen have been ported to pocketpc (from pc) and run just fine
even though it dont use the special image chip from ati at all
i'd say that 3d engiens can run on pocketpc's
and made for them if one feel it's necessary
but imho then i'd never really play those kinda games with a pocketpc
and havy gaming would wear down even the most persistent screen protector dont even want to think about what it would do to a pocketpc without a screen protector
Ah, but I think the pocketpc lends itself to a unique type of game, one which the pc can't emulate (unless you buy a tablet pc I suppose), the interaction between screen and stylus really has not been exploited except in perhaps 2-3 games (ICBM and that one with the bricks, balls and paddle come to mind).
These units get heavy screen/stylus usage under any circumstances, and anyone not using a screen protector have no-one to blame but themselves. Even so, I don't think it would be as bad as even solitaire, since solitaire you're always hitting the same area of the screen, these games would have alot larger interaction area.

three and a half year bump
Well, recently graphical posibilities of this platform has been pushed much farther. Even older devices with 600MHz XScale processors were capable of running Quake II at reasonable FPS without any 3D acceleration. With today's 3D accelerators level of visual quality used Quake III should be easily achieved (was possible without acceleration years ago but in low FPS).
Yeti 3D engine:
http://www.intuitex.com/yeti.html
Call of duty 2
There's a Call of Duty 2 port for the PPC. It ran reasonably well on my 400Mhz iPAQ 4155. It even had multiplayer.
Also, Descent was ported to the ppc.
Sadly after 2003's Tombraider I havent seen a better 3D game:

Thats over 5 YEARS and still no better match!
And its not because there aren't good games or better mhz machines... companies rather do silly puzzle games for ppc than a good 3D game.
And I'm refering to oficial ports, because the Quake's are obviously better.
The Yeti 3D I posted before is a very good and extremely fast engine, and its been around since 2004, why nobody uses it is beyond me.

Welcome to xda, i suggest you do a quick read through of the rules to avoid getting yourself in trouble (or any of us)..... there is a link in my sig.
Try google if you would like to find the game and legitimatley obtain a copy of it. If you will read the rules though, you will see that we do not support software piracy (cracks, serials, ect)

Some specifications don't exist yet, but hey, we're allowed to dream right?
In my graphic novel (which takes place 5 years from now) one of the characters uses this phone. It's just not called HTC HD3. I'm obsessed with details so I had to designed it before drawing it in his hand. Made entirely in Photoshop.

I was going for a very thin yet solid look (forgot to mention in the specs that the case is made out of metal). Guess your right - it looks sharp. Oh well, that just gives the device another function - kitchen knife.

Haha, nope. Still working on it, but it's nice you asked.
looks very nice i must say and the specs are awesome, if only......
and tell us more about the book.....
Not bad, I just don't like the screen going right to the edge at the bottom, it's also technically unrealistic, even moreso as it looks curved, at least for the timeframe an HD3 would likely be released...
Truetouch is fun, maybe one day with flexible OLEDs... but that would be in many years (5-10), while how it goes now an "HD3" would be due to be out next year
Wow, nice design.
But a 8mb camera on such a thin phone its impossible.
Anyway, you have quite some design talent!
Beautiful mate. Where do I sign for one?
Very nice
Just a short note:
Microsoft won't allow any UI changes within WP7S. Is HTC Sense 3 meant to be for Android (but the picture shows WinMo in the background).
Specs seem too good to be true, the others leaked some time ago seem more realistic (for example 1.5 GHz Snapdragon). But, I hope these points you posted are correct, especially dual-boot.

That's not Carbon Fiber on the sides - those are two huge stereo speakers
What's the point of stereo speakers that close to each other? Useless like on most phones that have them, only good to add a line to the spec list for marketing
They might by BOSE super acoustic speakers that can project the sound!!!!!!!
FFS people it's a bloody concept, stop getting hung up about it's spec lol.
It's a excellent piece of graphics design, you clearly have some skills. Now please design a decent WVGA Coreplayer skin
the current HD2 already very good

Advocates, Unite!

anyone have a chance to load videos on your epic? I took the16gb card home the other day, put clash of the titans and super troopers on it. The screen KILLS the evo screen! SO awesome.
I've seen another post where the OP claimed the EPIC screen wasn't glass...which I can't imagine.
Could you confirm one way or the other?
Thanks,

I've looking and found conflicting answers, but what file types does the Epic support?
mp4, dvix, and a few more? What about AVI or others?
I wish I had the chance to play with mine, but we're supposed to have 6 reps in store and we only have 2. So between 12 hour shifts and lines out the door, not much time playing with the device, sadly.

If the internals are anything like the other Galaxy S's, it should play all those formats, NATIVELY. The Galaxy S lines are one of the most well rounded when it comes to media file playback. Samsung's wide support of these media dates back to their Yepp mp3 player days and all with fantastic linear audio quality output.
Just check out how linear this thing is:
A quote from gsmarena.com
Perfect audio quality
Like many other things about this handset, the audio output of the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S is downright impressive. The handset was reasonably loud and scored excellently on each and every reading in our test.
The signal-to-noise ratio is impressive and so are the flawless dynamic range and frequency response.
The distortion levels are also top-notch and generally there is nothing about the Galaxy S audio quality that we can frown at. And here go the results so you can see for yourselves.

All of this is thanks to mDNSE - mobile Digital Natural Sound Engine chip. This is the mobile version of the DNSE chip found on their TVs, DVD and other home theater systems.
Has anyone confirmed the video codec support? Since the Epic isn't shipping with the same version of TW as the others, it could be missing some of the codec support found in them.
One of the things holding me back is the screen actually. I tried a Vibrant and noticed the smaller screen, same thing applies to the Epic

while the screen is a little smaller than the evo, the screen display is soo vivid. I took the 16gb micro SD card home, d/l'ed clash of the titans 720P .mkv and hot tub time machine, (and put super troopers .avi) and it looks AMAZING. It kills the evo screen. Lighter than the evo. Battery life is awesome on it. I got my coworkers in the rolodex and we just go in the back and text each other from it all day. Love love love this phone. When my boss told me I would be the advocate for this device, I was depressed for about a week or so because I have had nothing but HTC since my mogul, and the moment was not that great of a phone (and the intercept isnt anything worthwhile either... and if I had a dollar for everytime someone complained about a samsung inSTINKt!!! lol). Now, I dont feel bad at all cheating on the HTC brand. This phone is epic! If I find some fatal flaw after it being in my posession after launch.... well, I still have my full upgrade to get the evo, or whatever the next 4g phone will be...
/rant lol

The last photo I crudely washed out the little girls hand out of the frame.
how in did you get so close to that cute lil creature?
I just put the phone within 12 inches of his face. He was very docile. I even had him sitting on my shoulder. Not sure if he was scared or what his problem was, but he let me hold & pet him without too much moving around.
What attracted me was we were in the back yard, and heard this noise that sounded like a dog, it was this little guy. I looked all over this small tree, didn't find a nest of any kind, no other squirrels any where. Street next to the tree...didn't see any road kill. Not sure if he fell out of a tree, was abandoned or what his problem was. Plan on checking tomorrow to see if he is still there...take some shots with my dSLR.
Cute little Pup.
If the sounds were like a high-pitched 'yelp' that is normally an indication or associated with a call to either a mother calling her Pup/Kitten or the same calling the Mother.
Good shots btw..... Clear and evenly lit. The latter one I would have maybe used flash but that would have more than likely scared the little guy away.
I had a look at all three EXIF Data. Nice to see there were variations.
The last one gave results of:-

I think most people who were complaining about photo quality were, like me, doing so before the recent OTA firmware updates. When on KKA the focus didn't seem to work at all - since updating to LA4 the camera is focusing properly (in most cases) and I've got some great shots.
If you guys don't know about it, check out Pano - I've created some amazing panoramas with it.

Top 3 Modules should me made for LGG5

What would be the next best module for LG G5.?
According to me every person will suggest a module regarding his taste which means a photographer will go for camera module, a blackberry fan gonna ask for Blackberry Keyboard or a selfie enthusiast would like to have high resolution selfie camera.. but thats not the thing which evryone gonna love because they can do all these with the existing smartphone too.
If u ask me what would be the next module.. my answer will be too many modules because my imagination has no limits coz whenevr i think about i came up with a masterpiece, by saying that i dont mean that i imagine nonsense like a modular sattelite launcher or stuffs like that. I mean real genuine usefuls modules which can be made by existing technologies I m going to breifly describe my top three but gonna start with my favourite one.
Note:- Each modules must have battery pack of 1000 mah atleast, Because 2800 mah battery of LG G5 is too less for phone itself.
1. Hologram Projection Module (Integrated with Intel RealSense, Google Tango and Leap Motion)
A projection module which is capable of projecting holographic media which is controled by waving hands and fingers is just like playing in real virtual world. This is the future of Augmented Reality. These technologies like Intel Real Sense, Google Tango, Leap Motion, Google's Project Soli in a modular projector is like icing on a cake. This will be treat for everyone from professional guys to multimedia content watching to gamers. Just imagine playing Candy Crush in hologram by using fingers, Awesome.
2. A "Real" Camera Module.
LG Cam plus is nice, but its nothing more than little extra battery and some physical buttons version of Onscreen camera control. Nowdays tech companies are focussing on camera technology instead of good photography. Smartphones would suddenly have the power to introduce the selfie generation to proper photography. Selfie sticks could finally be banished as the populace discovers the world around them might be more interesting than their own face.
By quoting real camera i mean there should be a camera module with really big DSLR grade image sensor having great optical zoom capabilities and with Xenon Flash.Hopefully, There is company named "Light" which has awesome camera technology which can be used in modular camera.
3. A Portable Gaming Powerhouse
Until now, gaming on tablets and phones has been reserved for the Candy Crushers of the world. Games like Asphalt 8 racing tried to bring more of a console experience to your portable devices, but overall, phone gaming has never really been that great. VR is gonna be a big thing this year in gaming industry and with Vulkan is about to bring quality graphics to portable devices, playing games on your phone is about to get awesome.
There should be a cool gaming module which has a hardware upgrade for gaming and having console like controls.
4. Possibilities are endless.
Yes possibilities are unlimited, it could be Mega Battery Upgrade, a dock having all the ports like usb, hdmi, etc, a secondary display , a dth tv module, etc, etc. i didnot mention speaker module because i think carrying a speaker module or a blutooth speaker is samething. the audio jack supports 24 bit audio. its fine for me but for those audiophiles who want more juice of it, then the DAC mod will be great too..hopefully its already there by LG
These are my top 3 modules for lg g5. What's yours...? If u have any cool module cooking in your mind, Plz let us know down below ...
I know these possibilities are quite hard but not impossible, Remember, this is about what would be next best module possible, not what would be easy.
Thank You..!
