Hey all, I had a problem with my screen tapping itself and got a replacement today.
On this one there is no Task Manager in the programs menu.
Anyone know why? and more so, where can i get it or something that does the same job.
Thanks
JAmes
James, what do you want your task manager to do?
There are a number that might fit the bill!
V
Start > Settings > Memory and there's a tab with your running programs.
Now not to be too off-topic, when I was delving into the registry I found a key which I wondered what it did. Perhaps there's a latent shortcut out there???
HKLM>HARDWARE>DEVICEMAP>KEYBD> (D) TaskManVKey = 46
Looks like a taskmanager maybes???
Anyone know what this does?
Joe
Thanks for the reply.
Want it to close programs properly. I could do this through the start>setting>memory method. But i like that i could just go Start>TM and close things.
I tried magic button for a while, never really took to it. Still getting the Hang of the who PDA thing and its easiest if its just the windows programs, then i can see why I should be using the other ones

I also just realised that there is no battery info on the Today/Items screen.

James,
Consider using a program like SmallMenu when you're more familiar with the device. I highly recommend it, and it has a task manager of sorts built in.
There are various freeware or cheap task managers around.
If you want to try something entirely unobtrusive, you can try my program called VJOkButt.

James, I have no particular experience with the O2 files, but I wonder if this is an O2 file. Have a quick shufty over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37909&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=age
Is that the same thing you're after?
V
That helps. Looks like the wee bells and whistles are only on the Basic install type instead of corporate. Might have to revert back to it, i just liked it begin a bit cleaner.
Thanks again
JAmes
James, if you're planning to revert to the O2 stuff, investigate the "extended rom" and then you can pick and choose the bits you want to install, instead of all the unnecessary gloop.
V
I plan on doing that as soon as I can be bothered
I've been reading through alot of the posts on it for the last week or so and shall give it a bash.
Thanks
JAmes
Vijay - is that reg entry I posted a hidden shortcut to the task manager?
Many thanks,
Joe
joebongo: I don't know if you've been reading about my attempts to hack the hardware keys on the universal, VJElectrify, but I came across these keys a couple of days ago. Searching the net, I can't find anything definitive on them, and hope someone else can help. The only thing I found that seems half relevant is this:
Code:
When the user presses the CTRL+ALT+END key combination, the Windows Thin Client Shell brings the shell UI to the foreground. To configure this key combination, set the following registry entries.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD]
"DriverName"="Kbdmouse.dll"
"CalVKey"=DWORD:0
"ContLessVKey"=DWORD:0
"ContMoreVKey"=DWORD:0
"TaskManVKey"=DWORD:23
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...wce50conconfigurescreensaversinthinclient.asp
That seems to be a very bizarre place to put such an entry, but I can't find any other informative references. I don't imagine it does much, but the entry isn't mirrored on the PC so it's not vestigial AFAIK.
V
o2 do still install the Task Manager, even with their latest ROM, so perhaps your returned device has been configured in Corporate mode, rather than Basic mode.
If the o2 stuff has been installed from extended ROM, you'll find a folder:
"\Windows\Mobile Solutions\O2ActiveUI\Modules\TaskManager"
containing Task Manager. Other folders under ..\Modules\.. have the rest of o2's customisation.
o2's Battery icon is launched from the "\Windows\Startup\" folder, but you can instead enable the "standard" battery icon (next to the "radio button" icon) with a registry hack:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Power]
"ShowIcon"=dword:00000001
I have done some searching but feel free to slap me a round a little if I should have been able to find this.
Does anyone know how to prevent Goodlink 4.9 from autostarting?
At times I want to keep the memory free and would rather start it manually when I need to..
Thanks!

\windows\startup - remove the link to goodlink?
There is no link in the Startup Folder...
Anyone else? Registry perhaps?
Thanks...
Anyone?
I have 4.8.1.14. It doesn't autostart. I know that isn't much help.
It starts after a few minutes, correct?
Look at the notification que with memmaid or sktools or search for in this forum for notification clear or something like that. That might help
I'm using an MDA with ROM 2.26 and I want to remove t-zones and pocket msn or at least remove the shortcuts from my Today screen. I've searched and I can't figure it out. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks

You can't uninstall a program that is inherent in a ROM. You can remove them from your Today screen, though.
Go to Start/Settings/Today.
Click on the "Items" tab.
Uncheck t-zones and Pocket MSN, along with anything else you want to remove.
Also, I haven't looked at the MDA ROM in quite a while, but if these programs also run themselves at boot, you might want to go into \\Windows\Startup to remove any .lnk files that point to them.
Nevermind, I found it.

You can also remove them from the start menu by going to Windows/Start Menu and deleting whatever shortcuts you don't want to see anymore.
Ok, so i am using this really tight iPhone theme made with wisbar advance 2, and wisbar advance desktop.
Also, the slide 2 unlock is like version 2.16 or something. Ok. so here is my problems.
1. Comming back from the slider (and turning the phone on). "Notification Error.. Cannot execute \storage card\program file\lakeridge\wisbar advance desktop\wakeup.exe
2. I am loosing tons of battery life. I don't know what it is. I have the wisbar and everything with iphone theme running. i was at 100% this morning and about 8 hours later, 50%. Any way to change that. (I heard that the slider like is set to run in the background, or it is always running, so your screen never turns off... how do you fix that).
3. How can i change the slide 2 unlocks's settings? (i want the latest ones because they are better). but i don't know how to change it. There is not text file i can change. (like i want to turn off run in the background, and change the time format, and change the background image, change some other things like the thing that supposably eats up memory).
That's about it. The error and changing the slide 2 unlock.. if anybody knows please tell. I want to use this theme because its tight, but these problems like waisting tons of battery are annoying.
Thanks in advance.
Take a look at the readme.txt, it has a bunch of helpful information for the Slide2Unlock.
the read me tells you what the configurations mean..
Like turn animation on/off, would be 0 or 1.
except it does't say how to change them.
Try to install the wisbar softwares in the main memory of your device. I had the same problem before but since i moved (reinstalled) the softwares into my device memory (not in the removable one) the error notification disappeared.
Sorry my English is not so good...
Thanks I will definatly move my wisbar desktop and everything, yea, don't like that error message.
By the way, i downloaded a registry editor and changed the stuff with slide 2 unlock 2... so once i switch to main memory for the wisbar stuff... everything will work perfect thanks for the help.
Ummm... Yea, something is really weird now.
It still gives me the error that it cannot start the wakeup.exe in my storage card. I moved it to main memory, and deleted all the other folders for it in my storage card. hmmmm....
bump. anybody know how to fix the notification error sayign that it cannot excecute something in my storage card.. even though, i removed the program.. deleted everything else.. then reinstalled the program to main memory? really buggin me. if have the screen off for a while, and slide it.. it always give me the error.. and you can't do anything til you hit the tiny close button on it.
s2u2 .80 is working much better for me than slide2unlock. faster and a lot less memory loss. you should give it a shot.
im using s2u2 v .81 and same thing.
Ok, this is really messed up now. I thought you know, that it would be either wisbar advance 2, wisbar advance desktop, or s2u2... well i don't know what it is. I uninstalled all of them.. they are all off of my device right now, and i still get the error when i start up my phone. What is going on?
Seriously? is there some folders that i didn't delete or something (btw i deleted the "/Themes" folder, the "lakeridge" folder in the program files, and from before, the lakeridge folder in the storage card.).
somebody, its freakin me out?!
I think somewhere on the S2U posts, it says that it isn't compatible with WA2/3. Check out www.lakeridgesoftware.com too
i think i got the notification gone now. I installed pocket mechanic and searched for the path the notification it was givin me... and deleted it. haven't seen it since.
Okay guys... another thing wanted help on... If i push the weather button.. and go to a new page... how can i set it up to look like the iphone weather. Ive seen it done.. but can't figure out how to get it to work (they use like weatherpanel .... but like, i can't figure out how to customise it or anything). Btw, if you can get it to work with any other weather thing... that would work also.
Hi all , I need a help
How can I stop listing my recently opened documents??
actually, it is annoying !!! I hope your help friend
by the way, I use appl SKTools 4.21 to clear the list ..... but it is some thing bothering me ....
Thanx in advance for all
if your talking about the recent programs list in the start menu...theres a program called startclean, that clears the list every time you reboot, other than that, i dont know....
theres a link for the startclean.exe somewhere in the forums
the program wisbar advance allows you to not show the recent apps list at all. Its a cool little launcher program that I quite like and have used for a while. I'm trying out Ultimate launcher at the moment but like wisbar more. It is a commercial program but the benefits far outweigh the cost. There is a trial but I'm not sure for how long. Hope this helps.

It won't stop them getting listed as you use them but whenever StartClean (tiny wee cab, lots of copies of it posted around here) will make sure your start menu is clean whenevr you soft reset.
(I cook it into my ROMs every time, so useful).

Sorted....
As I said, Wisbar Advance 3 (for WM06) allows you to NOT SHOW recently used apps. It is part of the settings where you can pick if you want "help", "find", "desktop", "favourites" and recent settings" by ticking/unticking a box. You can also change the indicators across the top and their order. I would suggest this if you dont want to be troubled by "Recent Items" again... Cheers

Mm, I'm pretty sure that this or another app would be the only way to do that and ultramag69's suggestion of Wisbar Advance is probably the most popular option.
Other than that (if you don't want that running - it does do a lot of otyher, clever thigs you might also find yuo enjoy though) I think you'll have to search about, probably with Google or your own perferred search engine. there's probably some freeware aruond to do that task only and therefore be 'smaller' I'd have thought. StartClean does me as I do like to have the programs I just launched sat there but not on boot-up.
Hi,
Found this link. Haven't tried it yet to see if it just removes them temporarily or stops it from listing them, but worth a shot.
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc/browse_thread/thread/d4537c1a66a31057
Let me know how it works
Disregard
Got Home and tried it and on mine under WM6 it doesn't work. Will keep looking.
