Hey all, I had a problem with my screen tapping itself and got a replacement today.
On this one there is no Task Manager in the programs menu.
Anyone know why? and more so, where can i get it or something that does the same job.
Thanks
JAmes
James, what do you want your task manager to do?
There are a number that might fit the bill!
V
Start > Settings > Memory and there's a tab with your running programs.
Now not to be too off-topic, when I was delving into the registry I found a key which I wondered what it did. Perhaps there's a latent shortcut out there???
HKLM>HARDWARE>DEVICEMAP>KEYBD> (D) TaskManVKey = 46
Looks like a taskmanager maybes???
Anyone know what this does?
Joe
Thanks for the reply.
Want it to close programs properly. I could do this through the start>setting>memory method. But i like that i could just go Start>TM and close things.
I tried magic button for a while, never really took to it. Still getting the Hang of the who PDA thing and its easiest if its just the windows programs, then i can see why I should be using the other ones

I also just realised that there is no battery info on the Today/Items screen.
recon something funny is going on?
should i hard reset?

James,
Consider using a program like SmallMenu when you're more familiar with the device. I highly recommend it, and it has a task manager of sorts built in.
There are various freeware or cheap task managers around.
If you want to try something entirely unobtrusive, you can try my program called VJOkButt.

James, I have no particular experience with the O2 files, but I wonder if this is an O2 file. Have a quick shufty over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37909&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=age
Is that the same thing you're after?
V
That helps. Looks like the wee bells and whistles are only on the Basic install type instead of corporate. Might have to revert back to it, i just liked it begin a bit cleaner.
Thanks again
JAmes
James, if you're planning to revert to the O2 stuff, investigate the "extended rom" and then you can pick and choose the bits you want to install, instead of all the unnecessary gloop.
V
I plan on doing that as soon as I can be bothered
I've been reading through alot of the posts on it for the last week or so and shall give it a bash.
Thanks
JAmes
Vijay - is that reg entry I posted a hidden shortcut to the task manager?
Many thanks,
Joe
joebongo: I don't know if you've been reading about my attempts to hack the hardware keys on the universal, VJElectrify, but I came across these keys a couple of days ago. Searching the net, I can't find anything definitive on them, and hope someone else can help. The only thing I found that seems half relevant is this:
Code:
When the user presses the CTRL+ALT+END key combination, the Windows Thin Client Shell brings the shell UI to the foreground. To configure this key combination, set the following registry entries.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD]
"DriverName"="Kbdmouse.dll"
"CalVKey"=DWORD:0
"ContLessVKey"=DWORD:0
"ContMoreVKey"=DWORD:0
"TaskManVKey"=DWORD:23
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...wce50conconfigurescreensaversinthinclient.asp
That seems to be a very bizarre place to put such an entry, but I can't find any other informative references. I don't imagine it does much, but the entry isn't mirrored on the PC so it's not vestigial AFAIK.
V
o2 do still install the Task Manager, even with their latest ROM, so perhaps your returned device has been configured in Corporate mode, rather than Basic mode.
If the o2 stuff has been installed from extended ROM, you'll find a folder:
"\Windows\Mobile Solutions\O2ActiveUI\Modules\TaskManager"
containing Task Manager. Other folders under ..\Modules\.. have the rest of o2's customisation.
o2's Battery icon is launched from the "\Windows\Startup\" folder, but you can instead enable the "standard" battery icon (next to the "radio button" icon) with a registry hack:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Power]
"ShowIcon"=dword:00000001

has anybody come across a one button close all application for WM5.0? Spb 3.0.1 is too slow on WM5 and Wisbar Advance 2.4.....is also too much for what is needed. Something like Magicbutton but written for WM5.0 would br nice, nothing that requires much memory, but something that enables the closing of running apps without having to go into start/settings/system/memory...etc.
Wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft had just written in that piece of code, as they are well aware that since PPC2000, that every application opened, remains so unless you manually close it down in memory (therefore hogging memory resources!)
Well if anyone knows of a WM specific solution, please do share.

I added couple files which they are usefull for you and they include the closeall app.
Install the cab files you'll see the close all, Reset and Running programs, which they can be clicked from the systray directly, after the installation they require a soft reset or else you go to Start>Programs>System open TrayLaunch and press Enable
GSPocketMagic++ is the most stable program I've tried. You need to put some amended bitmaps in to get it to integrate with WM5 but it works well...

Thanks guys. I'll try them both and let you know how I get on.

sub69: I don't know what kind of coding they used in that software you recommended, but it has boosted refresh rates and performance in general by at least 30%!! I know this sounds crazy but it's true! My opinion has completely changed about the speed of the Jasjar. It seriously Rocks! I couldn't care less if it doesn't stay this way, because it shows me conclusively, that future ROMs' will probably address the issues I have had thus far.
I needed this. Thanks a bunch sub69; best link I've had with regards to Universal software.
OK 1 gripe only: I've lost my two soft buttons on the bottom bar (any ideas?). It comes back and stays operational after a soft reset, but as soon as I use the 'close all' option of the program, I loose the soft keys! Damn..there's always a hitch!
Another positive though, the speed boost remains even after I have exited the program and revert to standard WM5.0 launcher!
P.S. I had at least 12 programs running simultaneously with no slow downs at all and 15 megs of Memory still available (tried to run out of memory, But couldn't). Very pleased at the moment, this is what I was expecting from the HTC Universal!! I'll test extensively before I comment further.
Thanks again sub69, u da Man!!
Mental...I didn't realise it was that good!?!
Not sure about the soft buttons, although come to think of it I have noticed they've disappeared a couple of times. Must've been when I hit "Close All" too?
Glad I could help, anyway. Do let us know how things go...

Still cannot believe it!! It's still going strong. Sussed the soft button thingy:Under start (GSPocket)/options/settings...uncheck the 2 tabs for'use exten task close' & 'Use Today skin'. That's it. It runs absolutely perfectly for me & with no need for amended bitmaps too! It fits right in wih my red or blue border themes (I only use my own jpegs now instead of themes - in the hope that I get no performance issues.....so far so good). Under menu settind tab I only select close all & setting (which gives me quick access to all settings in WM5.0..personal & system) and under 'click' tab I leave it as default 'Menu'. I'm so impressed with this software, I didn't think non-specific WM5 software coul be this good!
That site you recommended is also tops!
This software is so good that I must put up a new thread to inform all of your wonder find. I just hope all who try it get the same experience I'm getting. Thanks again sub69....I don't even feel the need for the next ROM update/grade...though I won't be turning it away.
Hmmm, not sure why you're that stunned. I'm finding it just fine - but certainly no faster than my JJ runs under PocketPlus 3.01, and the non-VGA graphics are a real step backwards. Anyone know how to solve this?
You mention a speed improvement; can you clarify: Before this, how long did it take to rotate the screen, and how long does it take now?

That's the file you need to download for the Jasjar, then if you have an SD card reader, you can transfer it directly to it and install the .cab file by selecting it! If you don't have a card reader, let's hope you have a bluetooth dongle, as it's a small file then you can bluetooth it over. However if you have no problems with your activesync connection, just use that to dump the .cab file on your storage card somewhere or into 'My Documents' on the jasjar.
It's not complicated.

Yep, using it myself now - but no speed change over PocketPlus (even after hard reset to remove PP). Using it cos I like menu and PP didn;t offer all that much more that other apps don;t give me.
Hi all. Need some help please. I had recently used the 'hide' TrayApplet program but after uninstalling Spb Shell, decided that I could do with it being back, but don't want large icons on my Today screen again.
Hkey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\HTC\TrayApplet
above I found the links to each of the icons in the tray and can successfully point them to programs of my choice. Great!!
No! The links now work a treat, but the old icons remain the same (therefore hard to distinguish what does what until you tap it).
Does anyone know how to or where the registry entries are for the icons in the TrayApplet? e.g when I tap on the web n walk icon, I now get my configured Internet Explorer, but no associated icon.
Any help appreciated.
No one here hot on Reg-editing? Tried looking at the Universal wiki and their Reg hacks, but it most of it seems to be filed using different naming conventions and some alternative methods.
In any event. The above post shows where the links are (in seperate folders)....which can be permanently deleted and will then remove them from the TrayApplet.
Thanks for the info. I am still trying to decide what to do with the tray on my phone.
Try this cab file.........i'm using it on my Ameo now. It creates a programe in your programe folder with which you can turn on/turn off your tray applet as you wish. Hope it helps

No probs neildunne..at least you tried to help.
And someone else has benefitted from your answer.
Is there a simple regedit to enable/disable the trayapp?
Yep there is
Yes you can do it manually.
Go to HKLM\init and create a strin Launch92 and give it the value TrayAp.exe. When you want to remove it delete the key.
Can somebody post the HTCHomeplug plugin so I can use this one instead of the taskbar?
WA3 will solve it.
I'm happy. God is listening.
System Tray Features
* Added the ability to place program icons on the system tray.
On the screenshot above, you'll see icons that don't normally appear on the system tray. WisBar Advance 3 now allows you to place icons on the tray as a "quick launch" bar, similar to iLauncher and several other software packages.

Thanks from me for this too.
Although I am curious to know... from the community at large perhaps... the Today screen is evidently made up of a series of components... TSk files for the theme... applet files for additional display options... the HTC plug-in software to modify the HTC HomePlugin etc.
It seems a bit odd to me... given the apparent effort put into theme creation software by quite a few writers... that those same coders stopped where they did... at themes.
It seems like only half of the job... even the admittedly-clever HTC Home Plug-in Customiser goes that far and no further.
I'd expect at least one developer to come up with a more comprehensive product... the modules do exist as separate entities... theme designers... plug ins and customisers... and especially with the advent of WM6 and VGA screens...
I've had two Blue Angels now for a couple of years. It never occurred to me to play with themes. The only modfication of the desktop was from whatever software went in and did so as part of the package... XCPU Scalar and some SPB items for example. I never even bothered to upgrade the Windoze from 2003SE. Everything seemed to work alright, and most software that I try to use on it still does too.
Now we have two Ameos as well... both running different versions of WM6... different ROMs... one of which (the later) is T-Mobile.
And, probably due to the larger screen, I decided to take a look into the desktop.
The T-Mobile flavour did indeed come with this Tray App, and it is only today and on here (naturally) that I have actually found out the designation of the thing.
XCPUScalar knew all about it long before I did, and stuck it's Speed, Reset, and Off buttons in it.
The other Ameo came with what I think may be a vanilla (HTC) version of WM6 and the HTC Home Plug-in... and I only recently learned about that here too... none of this appears in the little manuals T-Mobile inlcude with the Ameo of course.
I wonder now, as I write, if a fairly basic and simple method of getting rid of the Tray App may simply be either removing it from the Windows folder or perhaps renaming it.
Either way, your method works well for me... as does XDA-developers per se... and without whom all HTC customers, whether members here or not, would be a great deal poorer.
Personally, I do wish that I understood a good deal more of the subject matter, especially in the deeper-delving posts... but at least with xda-developers being here... all of you... the possibility exists.
Thank You once again... all of you.

I'm going to hold of on this until it comes out of beta.. I've spent far too long getting the U1000 tweaked and working perfectly with the right combination of settings and software.
That thread has already achieved 12 pages of replies to the launch, so I figure its going through some teething issues already.
Cheers for the update though - a lot of those new features look extremely tempting!
WA3 beta kicks ass..
I am pleased to say, so far, WA3 beta is a vast leap forward from WA2 in terms of features and functionality. I'm loving it, but there seems to be no option for using anything but the default theme at this moment (correct me if I'm wrong peeps).
I'm loving the option to have shortcuts in the TrayApps.
WA3 is brill even in beta...
I'm very pleased to report that despite the many problems reported on the Lakeridge forums about this beta on various devices, it works perfectly on my Ameo.
I love the feature set on this new version and will definately be investing in this once the official release has made it out the door.
I forgot to take a screen shot of it without soft keys enabled (giving one even more screen real estate - if that's what you like).
But here are a few pics that I did take...and Yes you can use your old favourite WA2 Themes or WA3 Themes if you have any.
Final Word: No problems encountered as yet. Brill. I highly recommend checking this out, as it is way better than WA2.
Note: Be sure to completely uninstall WA2 first and save your Themes folder to somewhere else first (you will be able to install these from wherever you drop them later through WA3 i.e. Start/Settings/Personal/Theme Manager).
Drop us a line if you get stuck.

Haven't noticed a drop in memory usage. It seems snappier than before. Reports from the Lakeridge website are that the memory usage is considerably lower than WA2.
I've also got this up and running with no probs at all on my wife's Universal (T-Mobile MDA Pro) with no ill effects to speak of.
I did delve a bit deeper into memory usage over here: http://www.4winmobile.com/viewtopic.php?p=62542#62542
Wow, that's impressive news. I might totally back up my U1000 tonight and take a leap of faith. But I'm still skeptical. Really looking forward to official release though!
Now that I think about it, I guess I should anyway - as to provide feedback on any bugs!

Hi Mackaby007,
Beautiful pictures you have there. I have been trying this out for a while, but wonder where does your skin come from? It's FANTASTIC looking.
Also, when you press the PROCESS button in the battry pop up, do you get to see the running processes? Mine has nothing there.
Have you tried adding in more applications than one could be accomodated in just one line in the system tray? What happens if you try to have ALL launcheable applications there and run out of space? With applications like SPB pocket plus, you siimply add more tabs. But how about this one? You know what I'm thinking? If it allows all to be launched there, I might just dump my SPB pocket plus and use this to replace it as well as Magic Button.
I much prefer to keep all my applications alive when I press close button. There is really no reason to shut them down, because so doing means than when you need it again, you got to reload from scratch. Imaging reloading Opera Mobile..... It takes forever. So, the way I use me device to to keep ALL frequently used applications alive regardless of whether I press the close button with or without holding it down (I do not want to accidentially close it by holding down too long). If I really want to close it down, currently magic button let me do it be pressing and holding down on the running icon on task bar. I find that with WA3, the process of making an application stay alive when close button is pressed is far too tedious. You need to go to setting>Task>executable, and select the excecutable individually (WA3 works very slowly here unfortunately). Also, choosing to keep it alive still does not prevent me from accidentally closing it when close button is pressed too long. In this regards, I feel that Magic Button's design is far better.
Do you know of a way to suppress the task title all together? My view is that the icon of running task should just be "lighted up" to show it is the current application. Also, we know what application it is anyway by looking at what is staring at you. Why waste the precious real estate on task title?
I like the new ROTATE screen icon, and the ability to show date and time occupyping only one icon space. This is something where magic button should incorporate.
Oh, initially I though that the phone icon will let you click and directly let you use the phone but this is not so. Do yo know of a way to put a real phone task icon on the task bar, so that clicking that icon on the TB will give you access to phone application immediately? The trouble i have is that when phone application is launched, WA5 does not seem to show it on the TB (unlike magic button). I like magic button more in this regard.
Are you using QVGA when you took those screen shots? How does it look in VGA? Would the system tray buttons are far too small? Do you think that if we use VGA and WA3 we could get away from having to use another application such as SPB pocket plus?
One last thing, I could be wrong about this. But I got a distinct feeling that my response time is slower using this rather than Magic Button.
That's a long post, but I'm very interested in your view in the above.
I still cant figure out how to use WAD .. lol... argh! Im st0opit.

Hi eaglesteve.
Thanks for the compliment. I do like nice screens and preferably unclutterred. Anyway....the WA2 skin can be purchased through Nacashco Designs here: http://www.nascasho.com/Skins-Sub-InD_05.html
and the background image I found trolling around on the deviant art website under; 3 Dimensional. (see attachment)
Q & A (I'll do my best)
Q1. Also, when you press the PROCESS button in the battry pop up, do you get to see the running processes? Mine has nothing there.
A.1 Yes I see all the running processes and am able to stop any one of them.
Q2. Have you tried adding in more applications than one could be accomodated in just one line in the system tray?
A2. Yes, but it won't display any more than 15 icons from my experience. No point in addind any more as you cannot scroll through them (in the hope that you will see the other shortcuts you added previously). That's a good point to take up with Chris at Lakeridge, as he mat be willing to incorporate this into WA3 as it's still in beta.
Q3. Do you know of a way to suppress the task title all together? My view is that the icon of running task should just be "lighted up" to show it is the current application.
A3. Yes mine is currently set up this way too. I only want to see an icon of running apps.** I think under the 'Buttons' menu you have to go to 'Assignments' and ensure that 'Title' is NOT checked.
Q4. Do yo know of a way to put a real phone task icon on the task bar?
A4. I've added the phone app to the System tray (no need for keyboard anymore ). It's called 'Phone.lnk', but should be a visible icon when you go to choose it.
Q5. Are you using QVGA when you took those screen shots? How does it look in VGA? Would the system tray buttons are far too small? Do you think that if we use VGA and WA3 we could get away from having to use another application such as SPB pocket plus?
A5. I suppose you would call it QVGA (default mode). I tried TrueVGA and whilst it looks great, I don't like that I can hardly see anything. Got good eyesight at the mo and don't want to start straining. 2nd half of your question...Yes I think it's definitely possible, as you'd theoretically fit many more icons in the Tray applet/System Tray. Good thinking Batman! I might have to reconsider TrueVGA just for that!
Q6. But I got a distinct feeling that my response time is slower using this rather than Magic Button.
A6. I've used Magic button in the past and was very pleased with it, but stopped using it once I found that you can close apps properly through WA2. Unlike yourself, I like things properly shut down unless I'm going back to it soon, hence the nice running tasks icons.
Ok that should be about it. I hope I answered most if not all of your questions.
mackaby007 that's a great scren. So let me get this right , i buy the theme and get the backround and then i import it to wa3?
Also how do you replace / remove the default tray icons that come with t-mobile, i used the tray display program but that just removes all tray items. I just want to add the programs that i use
Would SPB diary work with this theme? as i have mine on today screen.
thanks

Be sure to have the system tray visible again first though, so you can see the changes you have made. If you don't see it, uninstall the Tray applet switching application and reboot.
If you own an X7500/Advantage read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308250 Once you've gotten rid of all your system appointed icons, follow on to the skinning app.
Now try WA3 system tray.
Let us know if you run into probs.
Thanks mackaby007 for your reply, i have a slight problem in that i delete the folders in the tray applet, but it still leaves the icon in the tray.

hi bashi007 what variant of the AThena do you have? If you have the Advantage, you'll have to delete the folders in the HTC Homeplug folder instead or aswell. Then soft reset your device and they should no longer be visible in the system tray.
Thanks for the help, i have Ameo, after soft resetting all seems to work. Great!
i presume i buy the VGA theme from Nacashco Designs.

Hi olegzz.
I can see by your joining date that you are new to this forum, so I will be patient with.
It is generally good practice to read through a thread before asking questions that may have already been asked and or answered.
In this instance no one has asked, but there are only 2 pages to this thread and one glance at the first page would have fully revealed what you asked.
to answer your question nonetheless, it is merely a skin made for Wisbar Advance 2 and is one of hundreds of interchangeable skins. Some of us just happen to like this one.
If you know about these things already I apoligise for my tone. If however you don't, then this might be of real interest to you as it completely changes the look and feel of your WM device.
The screenshots on page 1 of this thread are just 1 example of this. Best to head on over to Lakeridge software (website) to get a clearer picture.
Good luck.

My, that was way more polite than my response would have been!
One strange thing I've noticed with my Ameo, is that the items aren't sorted in the Start\Programs folder when viewed via the start menu.
I know this is a bit picky, but I'd rather this as it's quicker to find the stuff that I'm looking for.
Is this an easy thing to sort out?
Cheers!
You mean sort aplhabetic?
Simply remove the following registry key and normal service will be resumed:
/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell/StartMenu
Or something else?

I removed "Order" line in
/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell/StartMenu
and after restart my Kaiser all icons in Program folder are sorted by alphabetical order.
IT'S WORKING!
THANK YOU!
Hi all , I need a help
How can I stop listing my recently opened documents??
actually, it is annoying !!! I hope your help friend
by the way, I use appl SKTools 4.21 to clear the list ..... but it is some thing bothering me ....
Thanx in advance for all
if your talking about the recent programs list in the start menu...theres a program called startclean, that clears the list every time you reboot, other than that, i dont know....
theres a link for the startclean.exe somewhere in the forums
the program wisbar advance allows you to not show the recent apps list at all. Its a cool little launcher program that I quite like and have used for a while. I'm trying out Ultimate launcher at the moment but like wisbar more. It is a commercial program but the benefits far outweigh the cost. There is a trial but I'm not sure for how long. Hope this helps.

It won't stop them getting listed as you use them but whenever StartClean (tiny wee cab, lots of copies of it posted around here) will make sure your start menu is clean whenevr you soft reset.
(I cook it into my ROMs every time, so useful).

Sorted....
As I said, Wisbar Advance 3 (for WM06) allows you to NOT SHOW recently used apps. It is part of the settings where you can pick if you want "help", "find", "desktop", "favourites" and recent settings" by ticking/unticking a box. You can also change the indicators across the top and their order. I would suggest this if you dont want to be troubled by "Recent Items" again... Cheers

Mm, I'm pretty sure that this or another app would be the only way to do that and ultramag69's suggestion of Wisbar Advance is probably the most popular option.
Other than that (if you don't want that running - it does do a lot of otyher, clever thigs you might also find yuo enjoy though) I think you'll have to search about, probably with Google or your own perferred search engine. there's probably some freeware aruond to do that task only and therefore be 'smaller' I'd have thought. StartClean does me as I do like to have the programs I just launched sat there but not on boot-up.
Hi,
Found this link. Haven't tried it yet to see if it just removes them temporarily or stops it from listing them, but worth a shot.

Let me know how it works
Disregard
Got Home and tried it and on mine under WM6 it doesn't work. Will keep looking.
