What network? From what i've researched the euro version will work best on T-Mobile. You'll at least get their edge speed. I got a euro version as well for the wife and she has at&t and she only gets G on it. When we go into town it will jump to edge but that's rare. We dont live in the sticks or anything, at home i get 3g on my hermes. I think that when we are close enough to baton rouge it roams maybe on a better signal, allowing the edge speeds. 3g is a no go for it from what i've read.
I currently have an old HTC Diamond and am ready for an upgrade.
Telus' new 3.5G network runs HSDPA / WCDMA 1900/850. It just so happens I'm going to be in Australia next month and I'm interested in the Telstra HD2.
So, from my understanding, I can flash a radio on the HD2 that will make it work with the Telus 1900/850 network? It has to be 850+1900, not just one or the other.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5555600
That thread implies it works out of the box. Are you sure Telus has that crap dual-band structure like TMoUS? If so, that guy wouldn't have been able to get HSDPA... but he clearly did Telstra HD2 is 850/2100 BTW.
i think it has to be 1900/850 for full coverage, something like some towers are 850 some are 1900 :/
Oh OK, it's not structured dual-band then, it just happens to be a coverage issue.
I would PM Spike15 and see what his 3G coverage is like. In the states, we are split 850/1900 as well, but I get full HSDPA coverage pretty much everywhere - and the jump to Edge (if necessary) is seamless.
The new belus network *only* has 3.5g. So if you don't get on WCDMA/HSDPA you dont get on anything.
Ah I see that now. Crazy canuck carriers
Yeah, I would definitely tread cautiously then. Like I said in my last post, get in touch with Spike15 or get your hands on an older Telstra Touch HD (or any other phone compatible with their Next G network) to see how it works.

Tel US
It used to be BCTEL, but is now American owned
Hahaha, damn, counter-owned. You've won this round! So your thoughts on the phone then?
I'm wondering if there is anyone that has an HD2 that is on Tmobile.
What data, EDGE or 3G, are you getting.
I understand Tmobile uses 1700 & 2100, and that there are other treads that have said the current version available are not suppost to work on Tmobile.
If there is someone!
If you would please, I would like to know what some of you registry keys contain for what ever service you get. Please specify.
These are the keys I'm asking about
HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\BandType
ItemName1
ItemName2
ItemName3
ItemName4
I'm currently using a HD2 test phone for Tmobile in the US (it has a splash screen when it boots up. You know... "Stick Together").
It does work with 3g and EDGE. I'm scared to flash a new ROM because I'm not sure I'll continue to get 3g. But in answer to your registry questions... Here is what is in my reg:
ItemName1 = Auto
ItemName2 = GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+900)
ItemName3 = GSM(1900+850)
ItemName4 = UMTS(2100+900)
theisdept I'm curious if this helps you. please let me know.
And if anyone knows if I can keep 3g in the US on Tmo with a cooked ROM, let me know. Should I look for a ROM that won't change my Radio?
3G is hardware related. So if you change roms, it won't affect your 3g connectivity. I wasn't even aware any versions of the HD2 worked on T-Mobile's 3g network yet. You are one lucky man! I can't wait to get my hands on the hd2
I'm always confused about this.
Is the HD2 in Edge mode when you see the H in the bar?
Also. Is Edge faster or slower than 3G?

I do consider myself lucky. I just know someone who knows someone... I heard the Tmous version will have more ram when it is released (rumor = march 24th). It is a sweet device already.

normally you'll see edge when a phone is on edge and 3g when a phone is on 3g not sure about on the hD2 or other phones.
thats just my experience with the g1 and mytouch
and 3g > Edge
H > 3g > e > g

H = HSPA = 3.5G (fastest, this is a bolt-on to 3G. Your voice is '3G', your data is '3.5G')
3G = UMTS = 3G
E = EDGE = 2.5G (Bolt-on to G. Your voice is '2G', your data is '2.5G')
G = GPRS = 2G (slowest)
If you see H then it is in hsdpa - 7.2mbps. I have seen this.
If you see 3 then it is in 3G I presume - 384kbps. I have not seen this icon personally yet as 3G always turns to H when i try to get data.
E for edge - 128kbps or so. quite slow but ok for email. I have seen this.
Gsm - xxx??? dunno, but slow - I have seen this as G.
The phone stays in 3G mode until data is needed then it flicks into H mode.

Why is there no 1700 (aws) band listed in your registry as this is needed for Tmous. Not saying you are lying, but I'd like to see some speedtest results while you are on Tmo 3g.
Thank you mazzarin and chris_ah1,
All is clear to me now. When I use network access (exept wifi) it will alway go from 3G to H, and when done back to 3G

I don't know why there's no 1700. This isn't a european phone. It's a test phone for Tmobile USA. I know someone who works at HTC in America. They let me use it. It doesn't have the official release rom. I've even flashed a custom rom, and it still has 3g. The speedtest below is actually with my laptop tethered via USB cord to my HD2. If anyone wants 3g with their HD2, I'd suggest waiting until Tmobile USA releases it, as I gather that it is entirely hardware related. I also heard from Tmobile tech support that the US version will have more RAM. I don't know if the Tech was referring to the 576MB ram that we can all get right now with the latest Radio (2.08.50.08_2)
Here's the speed test results:
EDIT: I've seen a spec sheet on the web for the Tmous version. It is claiming 576MB of RAM, which is already available on most units (my test phone included). But according to the leaked spec sheet, the ROM is doubling to 1GB for the Tmobile versions. We'll have to wait and see if this is true.
Hi, im in Jamaica, using my HTC MyTouch 4 G but unfortunately my phone refuse to connect to more than EDGE speed on any of the mobile network, it is unlocked & therefore able to use any SIM but no matter which networks i connect to this phone refuse to go any faster than edge. Today I tried my SIM in another phone which is an Iphone 3G, and it instantly picked up 3G speed so it prove that the problem is with my phone & not the networks, can anybody give some advice? My internet settings are all correct & entered by the technicians at all the respectful phone companies
Did you do factory restore settings.. or just factory reset the whole phone..ooh are you on Android 2.1 or 2.3. Also go to network mode and see if its not on GSM only.

the mytouch 4g and all other tmobile phones will only have 3g/4g on tmobile networks. this is because the bands that the mytouch 4g and other tmobile devices have are different from most of the world's. so unless another carrier has the same bands as tmobile, 1700/2100/AWS, EDGE will be the fastest you get. the iPhone 3G is capable of 3G because it's band is the same as most of the world's carriers network bands for 3G: 850 / 1900 / 2100.
this doesn't have anything to do with factory resetting the phone or whatever. it is simply hardware.
hope this sheds some light for you.

The reason it worked in the iPhone is that T-Mobile and att use different 3g bands and the hardware in those phones is only setup to work on those bands. Before you buy a phone, unlocked you should find out what bands your local networks use.

Just some semantics: "most of the world" uses 2100 band, which makes MT4G compatible with most existing networks in Europe and around the world. Americas (both North and South), on the other hand, happen to use mostly 850 and 1900 bands, uncommon in the rest of the world, which are indeed incompatible with MT4G.
Am still confused.. even some people and parts of the united states people still fall on or can't get pass edge..anyway...

As long as you don't have a compatible-band cellular tower of your carrier in vicinity, you won't get 3G. Not all cellular towers support 3G.
And if your carrier's band(s) aren't compatible, then you never get 3G.

thanks so so much to everyone who took time out to answer my question, i am no more happier than when i asked my question unfortunately but i am so much wiser and now with more knowledge, lol , i know now what i need to do, get rid of the phone and get myself a more compatible phone...unless there is a way to manipulate or change the network factory/hardware settings in the phone???...any ideas?
Nope. Some phones are restricted to certain bands by software (radio build), but unfortunately this restriction seems to be in HW.

With some God like skills you may be able to remove the HW antenna from a T-Mobile phone and replace the one in this phone. While I would not suggest it. I didn't want to tell you there was NO way to do it.
I hope someone in this thread can answer the same kinda question for me, but in a different way. Right now I'm in the United States on Simple Mobile's 40$ 3G Plan, but I noticed on my MyTouch 4G (Running the latest RoyalGinger) that I am connected at 4G speeds, however shouldn't my indicator for Data/internet connector on the phone read off as 3G instead of 4G? When i ran a bandwidth test on my phone from DSL Reports Mobile Speed Test, I got the following from a 100k file.
124 kbit/sec
0.287s latency
6.72s d/l time
Is that how fast 3G usually is? or should I be going faster? Thanks to anyone who can help.
First of all, New User, First thread
I bought an HTCH Glacier (Mytouch 4G) last week it arrived yesterday, bought the unlock phone and was able to get my SIM working with this phone. Loving it!
I live in Dominican Republic and my Carrier is Orange Dominicana. I typed all the APN settings and my Phone connects, BUT ONLY TO 2G. It just shows a "2G" Icon, really bad news because I was really looking forward on using it as a WIFI Hotspot.
Ive googled and looked everywhere. Tried to put it on WCDMA only, but its goes back automatically to its WCDMA/GSM Auto option. Checked all over the *#*#4636#*#* config tab. Nothing.
Is there something I am missing, does T-Mobile blocks 3G availability for countries which are not US?
Please help me out with this...
Thanks in advance

tmobile has nothing to do with your 3g/4g speed.
You should have checked your carrier's HSPDA's bands before you bought the mytouch. Tmobile's bands HSPDA bands are 1700/2100
Orange HSPDA is i believe 900. It is not compatible with the US mytouch 4g which only runs with 1700/2100. I believe the UK version supports 900 which is used with ORANGE.
Thanks a lot Teo032. Received yesterday and like ponsting it on Auction!!! Too bad...
I thougth it would work as the specs showed in GSMARENA specifies it supports 3G @ 900 MHZ

yeah that sucks, i think there was another post that says the official tmobile site and htc site said that only 1700/2100 was hspa compatible where as 900 band is probably the international version.
Wait. I was just checking a local auction site here in DR. There was an HTC Mytouch 4G being sold (Well it was sold already). I started talking with the seller and he told me his phone's 3G worked with Orange Dominicana...
That got me like: " What!? "
I got a 3G sim card, I used to have a BIS data plan (Which ive tested on HTC sensation, Samsung Galaxys and The Samsung Galaxy Tab. They all worked with the 3g. Also tested and Iphone/smartphone data plan. Nothing
I'll give it a try until friday, testing other configurations...
If not suceeded. What good phones are around that DO SURE work with Orange Dominicana ?

Dude we are having the exact same problem, i just threw it away to a friend who likes to do all kinda cool thing to cell phone to see if he could brick it or overclock the band which i don't think he will do
@ SNAKEEYEPTY. Are you from Dominican Republic?
It seems we are missing some configuration.... I'll go next sat to an Orange Office and see what they can do. I hadnt gone cuz I know customer service here sucks... I just dont trust those guys... but I gotta give it a try...
If your friend find something out, let me know... I am kinda loving this phone... but if this feature cant be enabled... Goodbye to it.

naaaa no updates..
we need someone to unlock, underclock or overclock the antenna to a 850mhz/900mhz and the rest of the bands, it is possible, but stupidly hard to accomplish...
No, it's not possible. Analog and digital radio filters, DSP and other parts are VERY different from your average computer (actually, they're so different that it's like saying sky is different from ground). It's not "overclock" or "underclock", and has nothing to do with "clock". Band isn't clock rate. And even the physical antenna properties might need to be changed for band changes.
If I remember right, all the MSM8255-based phones are dual band, most running 900/2100. MT4G runs 1700/2100 instead. If my assumption is correct and the change isn't physical on the board in one of the external components, but only SW - then you might be able to make it work with 900 MHz band instead of 1700. If not - then there's no chance.
So, I would be able to make it work... By far, no luck
Guys @ customer service told me I needed another data plan, specially for smarthphones... I tried that already with a friends SIM. No luck.
I hadnt sold it cuz Im 80% sure it works on 900 mhz. GSM arena says it, and most of T-Mobile phones supports this freq.
Obviously, GSM Arena was proven wrong.
AT&T bought Tmobil, so what does this mean for those with tmobil exclusive band like us?? are att will keep using 1700/2100 for the next 10 years or should we send them our cellphone for a replacement??? what should we do??? just wondering....
I'm pretty sure the at&t/T-Mobile merger didn't go through. It was ruled 'not in the public interest', though they still had the option to go to trial. Last I read, at&t was withdrawing ...

Hi everyone, does anyone know if this issue was resolved? I live in Lima, Peru and have the same problem with HTC Mytouch 4G. Did someone find a way to make it work with 900 mhz?
Thanks!
Hmm, I'll have to check this out when I fly back down for Christmas break, lmao. I know when I bring down T-Mobile phones they all work on Orange (my prefered carrier and OPs carrier). No reason why 3G or HSPA+ shouldn't work. I'd probably have to check around the large cities because outside those large cities such as San Cristobal which is close to Santo Domingo, you'd fall back on GPRS/EDGE.
P.S.- If I check this out, It would be around Valverde Mao in the north, close to Santiago and Puerto Plata, but if I get the chance to visit my cousins in San Cristobal, I'll check down there too, lmao.
