How is your experience with HTC P3400i ? - P3400 General

Please reply here only if you are using HTC P3400i.
I have heard by a few people that they are having problems with Gene like not able to make or receive calls, send messages, audio etc.
Some also saying, that the p3400i is not comatible with Airtel in India.
So, are these all true?
Can they be solved?
What is your experience with your Gene?

Gene User from India
I have used my Gene in Delhi, Surat and Hyderabad without any problem. I have used Airtel in all these places. Fear not dude. All's well with Gene.

mine working fine but o2 atom is far more better

its one the best devices out there am usin it for a year n havent felt ne probs

its ultimate
its the best value to money. no problems even after upgrading.

HTC Gene (HTC 3400/HTC 3400i) is true value for money.
HTC Gene is all the more value for money as it has dedicated techies who keep on dishing out wonderful ROMs for this device and help you keep your phone always updated

Its a really wonderful device for getting your first step into the world of Windows Mobile, one of the best and the cheapest available option. Cheapest in terms of price not quality. Its specially great to learn about Windows Mobile OS in general. Plus, its a really sturdy device, Chan123, one of our fellow here, got it wet and even under the tyre of a car (not fully) once, but his GENE is working nicely till now. Its a real value for money phone.

The rumours are wrong. All of them. I have used my Gene with AirTel and Vodafone, well around half India, starting from MP to the North East and I can assure you that there is no issues with Gene. And I can assure you it has more bangs for its bucks . If you know what I mean. The battery life is also excellent considering its a full touch screen device, the keyboard is also not difficult to use, trust me.

Hi Guys,
I am also using a HTC Gene with a Airtel sim (PrePaid), I have noticed a strange issue with this phone.
People say that they had called me and they heard the the phone ring, but I didn't take their call. But when I check the call register for that time, I won't see any call's received or missed in my call history. This happens randomly. Its not like I won't get any call at all, Its like a few gets registered and few don't.
Also I am not getting few text messages sent to me.
The same phone was used by my friend with an Airtel sim (postPaid) for around 2 months, he didn't had (or noticed ) this kind of issue.
Anybody have any Idea why is this happening ?

It could be some network problem, which could happen randomly.

@ lamborg - then why my friend didn't had the same issue. As even he was using the same service provider.

UK ROM 3.14.13 & Radio 4.16 finally here

Official UK upgrade is here.
Rom 3.14.13
Radio 4.16
http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgrade/0,,170,00.html
very dissapointed really
No promised MMS, no signal improvements, and although I have yet to install, it looks like there is no fix to the following problems either
1 - SMS name fix, althought the patch on this site does that so feck em!
2 - Switching to phone app after sending sms AFTER a call has been made/received
3 - O2 CS in general, look at all the other international releases, yet O2 are still waaay behind.
4 - Action update is beyond a joke!
Kevin
What? 3.14.13? .... I am expecting a new rom with MMS fuction...
Is it just me or are people not bothering to read the O2 site properly.
They didn't actually promise the MMS update in March. This is due "later in in the year", along with modem capabilities and other stuff.
MMS or sms name fix is not built into any ROM available anywhere. I know somebody who works for O2 and has the next ROM/Radio being tested and apparently this doesn't have this either.
I agree, lets kick their ass on how long it's taken to release this, but lets get our facts straight first.
Lets be realistic. A lot of the stuff we want is not going to be available until PPC 2003, so we will all have to buy new devices by then.
absolute disgust !!!
this is a shambles I wonder how this company continues to exist ?
how can they promise items in an upgrade then basically take 4 months longer than anyone else to put out this "upgrade".
Seems to me like they have the attitude "we have your money so [email protected] you"
I WILL NEVER purchase another XDA from o2.
the idea was fantastic the way they treat people is an absolute disgrace.
could you imagine the rebellion there would be if you bought a telly that kept on losing the channels you had programed when it felt like it.
this was a total waste of money on my behalf.
I will go back to my ipaq and nokia combination.
does anyone want to buy a pretty ppc with a half functioning toy phone built in.
 :x
THIS IS CRAP!
radio 4.16 still has the unable to re-aquire signal unless plugged into the cradle.
****e ****e ****e I gave O2 the benefit of the doubt for tha last 6 months with the promise that this radio version would fix this problem but it does not. I repeat NOT !
now my blood is boiling time to start a campaign.
The problem with not reaquiring the signal is SIM card related. Get a new SIM card and the problem will disappear.
Atleast this is what I found.
amarko5,
So you have been waiting 6 months for an upgrade to fix your xda not picking up a signal unless in a cradle? And it never occured to you that you have a broken xda or sim?
Well done on winning the completely stupid 2003 award. How do you not fall over more often?????
Unbelieveable.
Now, now, settle down or there'll be tears before bedtime. It is ****e though isn't it? How many people do you think O2 have got working on software? Could it be as many as one? Do you think he(she) works full time, maybe he has a day job as a plumber, very busy time of year this! The nokia/ipaq option is looking good.

I have contacted o2 on many occasions and it is a "KNOWN BUG" so keep your simple minded comments to yourself.
i have tried 3 sim cards in the phone and all are the same.
I have 2 friends who suffer tha same complaint and there are also many people reporting the same problem on the official source o2 website.
it occurs if the phone loses signal for any extended period of time and if the battery is less than 3/4 charged.
when dropped back in cradle the extra power seems to kick it back up.
if signal is not lost ie local in good area then the phone functions normally
even with low power.
get your facts straight before making childish comments.
P.S. i only ever fall over when i trip over idiots like YOU !

Being in the UK never helps
Why is it that we in the UK have some of the best engineers in the world. But we can't get a simple thing like a bleedin phone to work!
People come from all over the world to get education in the UK. We are a great nation. So O2 UK get yer arse into gear FFS ! ! !
~MArtin
Hi,.
I'm the first Guest who replied about it being the SIM card. I had the problem and I found that my friends O2 SIM fixed the problem. I ordered a new SIM card and it did the trick. If anyone else has the problem and their friends "NEW" SIM card don't fix it, then I too would suggest that it is your XDA that is at fault.
O2 say that it is a known bug which is true - but a bug that can be fixed with a new SIM.
Trust me or not, I was only trying to fix your problem.
@amarko 5
i have problem that may be same as you reported. phone frozen and does not load the radio on a soft reset ? impossibe to use, turn off radio etc. didn't think the power was low to be exactly the same as your problem tried putting back in cradle and on usb hot sync cable - nothing was running radio 408 and 3.14.13. only possible was a full hard reset reset which cured and reloaded radio. have now upgraded to radio 416 as per new o2 update. is this ongoing problem from your knowledge?? will an upgrade to 3.15.xx eng (dutch o2 i think ??) fix it as mentioned in earlier posts??
The Problem still existed after the upgrade (well several re upgrades as well)
I appreciated Guests suggestion of sim card but I have tried 3 simms now 2 of which are just a few weeks old.
It didn't solve my issues.
At present O2 support seem to admit they knew about it and have agreed to take my XDA back to fix (I really hope they do)
so at present i am without my XDA as it's in the post back to O2.
I really didn't want to mess with any unofficial upgrades as you suggest as it may have invalidated warranty.
I may have been a bit slow in getting this sorted but at first O2 just denied a problem it is only recently they seem to acknowledge it.
BTW this BUG seems to affect a lot of people of you read the newsgroups on O2 source newsgroups.
I hope you have better luck with the upgrade if not then i suggest a visit to an O2 shop or call the support line to return it.
dont suffer like i did.
I also hope they compensate me for the useless functionallity of the sp called phone but i have my doubts maybe i will have to consult trading standards or watchdog
time will tell and i will keep you informed of progress.
Is there some kind of matrix available showing which country is at what ROM/Radio thing? All very confusing for amateurs like me.
Also, would it not be more productive for HTC to do the updating, make it a universal download, but with localised add-ons available
If I'm hopelessly out of my depth here, throw me a lifebelt...
soft reset
Hi,
My xda have the same problem but after a few
soft reset or adjusting the power settings
it now works fine.
same problem

I had exactly the same problem. They suggested that i get a new sim card because the sim is 2 years old but i couldnt be arsed with that. i phoned XDA fault centre and they said i could send it back for repair. 3 days later, i got it back, and it was working normally again, with a couple of hickups.

Hermes On T-Mobile... Maybe Not?

I have heard on the grapevine that T-Mobile will not be stocking the Hermes, the reason for this is the high cost price, it will be similair to what the MDA Pro costs and for that reason will just not sell enough.
Can't guarantee this though as the same was said about the Nokia 8800 and Samsung D500 when they were originally released but a back track was soon made!
T-Mobile Germany gave it a name already as the Vario II, and there is a flyer on their website. T-Mobile UK makes its own decisions - let's just hope they see the Hermes as a solution to the current shortage of Wizards...
whats a hermes and what will it do for me?
ok how is it going to be better than the wizard? just wondering expect i'll break my wizard about the same time this new one becomes affordable.
PS: some device that can run the day to day relationship with my girlfriend would be pretty useful. or even a text message auto reply option, sense the mood from the incoming text and reply appriately.

You could just have it display the word "APPROVED" but it only gives them warm fuzzys when they see it on the cash register display after using your card.
Just seen pics of the hermes thing and well i'll stick with the wizard unless i plan to build a small outhouse then a few hermes would be needed.
PS: the early stages of most relationships surely could benefit from an sms auto reply app.
1. scan msg
2. count instances of 'love you' etc... deduct instances of 'i hate you' etc.
3. use the score to judge the mood
4. probably apologise for conflict in the middle east
5. send reply
be funny if it could learn and have access to ur phone book. you could wake up one morning and its decided that girlfriend 1 is too much hassle so its dumped her and propositioned someone else for you. brilliant!
might be worth saying at this point before this thread get any dafter.
best keep PocketGirlFriend v0.1 top secret, as if PocketBoyFriend ever got written then things would get daft!!!
i dont see why they would. they have the MDA same thing... right?

Can HTC block a phone?

Hi all, i had a bad start to the new year...some teenager snatched & ran away with my Touch Dual this morning (dawn,it was dark).
Anyway, my Telco can only deactivate the SIM card. I called HTC to check if thr was a way to BLOCK the phone in anyway...but their office is closed as its new years day.
Any1 has any ideas wat i might be able to do? I dnt think i'll see it again but its really disappointing. some luck huh?
p.s. I intend to get another touch dual the soonest i can afford it..
daddypool
What do you expect from them to block? I think you want something that's not possible. However, I know that in Holland, the police somtimes sends a sms-bomb to the IMEI number of a stolen phone. I don't know where you're from. but maybe the police in your country can do that to. It seems very anoying to me to receive lot ant lots of sms messages about using a stolen phone
i thought it was up to your network to get the imei barred? if your network wont help i doubt if HTC will do much.
Go to Police with your IMEI!
the IMEI is also on the box the device came with
i was under the impression you can break a phone if you have its imei
I'm sorry...

I can't believe the nerve of that little jerk. Your bad experience just gave me an idea. I once put an app on my Magician that when a different Sim card was inserted into my phone, it would send me a text/email with the telephone number of that Sim. I never had to use it so I can't say for sure that it actually worked. I guess I should've tested it. But anyway, my point is; I'm going to find that app and post it for all.
Can't wait until you get your Dual back.

yep, i came across that software before too..now i wish i had tried that. (well, another lesson in life!)..my only saving grace is i have everything i need backed up. with the IMEI number, which i already gave the police, the only way the thief will be caught if he tries to sell to a 2nd hand mobile phone shop.
by the way, im in Singapore, one of the lowest crime rates in the world. but hey, still, low crime doesnt mean no crime.
oh my, i miss my phone so much...haha..now i can just laugh about it. i just checked the retail price of the dual here...it will cost me about USD 700. sigh...
luckycris0,
if u find that app, pls post it here...thanks..
after this lesson, i will use that, if not for anything....just for karma.

Hope that helps.
Here's an app that's similar to what I was talking about in my post earlier. The trial version is available from handango.com and it's about 25usd to purchase. Give this a try. I'm certainly going to on both my Nike and Polaris. I'm still going to try and locate the app so you all don't have to pay for it but since that time, I've changed laptops countless times, but I always save everything to disc so we'll see.
thks
thks guys...i will definitel try these apps...once bitten twice shy!
ystrday, i jus bought myself another TOUCH DUAL!...got it at a better offer..had 2 sign a new 2year contract for another telco line...& gave the line to a loved one to use...
Uhm.
I read a few years back that your operator can block the whole phone, not just the SIM card. Never needed to use it, I have no idea if it really works.
Bad luck!
Anyway, thx guys for the app! can really be handy!
will one of these appz survive after a flash or hard reset? guess not So, they are pretty useless in front of phone guardian for symbian in example

htc shift review

hi
in
http://mobile-review.com/pda/review/htc-shift.shtml
you can see shift review unfortunetly (for most of us) that is in russian
but usually mobile-review.com put english translated version of it's own reviews in english side of their web site in afew days after russian version
recently pawel and his body (boy genus) said shift delayed until febuary
in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1811480#post1811480
pawel can you contact mobile-review.com and ask them to try your ways
for calling and phone capablity like removing snap view, etc
sorry for my bad english
god bless
boygenius also has one. so does bangelboy. boy genius im going to i believe send instructions on opening full wm6 tomm. last email said he would hit me up later which probably means tommorow.
That looks like a great review with a lot of info about the shift. I liked the photos
I hope there´ll be a translation soon.
Google language tools are your friend
http://translate.google.com/transla...htc-shift.shtml&langpair=ru|en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
Dear HTC,
I will buy the shift if a full Windows Mobile GSM PHONE AND GPS capabilities are included. Yes, I am shouting PHONE AND GPS.
Tim
gps is a 100% ,phone htc cant decide on. i sent boygenius the files to make wm6 full. i haven't gotten a reply yet if that did the trick or not.
here's some more "inside" of shift review....
http://jkkmobile.blogspot.com/2008/01/htc-shift-umpc-dissected_15.html
so much fun!!! but It says har to change ram.n looks like easy to change to SSD if shift can boot from other place.
HTC Shift is here..
I was in Taiwan today, I called HTC and they said they have the HTC Shift. I told him I wanted want, but they said they cannot sell it yet. So much for getting me excited during the few seconds
hi greatest kelvin
anything about phone capablity?making calls?
no voice calls
they told me it does not have voice calls.
We do know that is does in fact have the Qualcomm MSM7200 correct? If so then unless they altered the chip(unlikely) it has quad band voice capabilities. Just needs to get "unlocked". I'm confident our XDA hackers can figure it out and make the rest of us happy as clams.
I don't really care about voice capabilities. I use my loptop on the road with wirless card all the time, and I have a phone to make a voice call, but if you could open WM to full extend, and make it to access files stored on harddrive and SD card. That would be very helpful. So I wouldn't have to sync my cell (PPC) phone with computer all the time. Otherwise Shift has a nice forms and size, but that's it! At advertised prices it is MORE than just overpriced

I have read on many website that the SHIFT is A REAL PHONE ... but I think that it will be different depending on the country .. I think that France and Belgium could have phone, while Spain , England and USA will have only SMS.
Not sure about it, just trying to put the things together !
I'm a bit confused whether this has a phone or not. In this HTC Shift Review it says that the phone is not working.

the review is right.. the shift IS NOT A PHONE and there is no voice capabilities right now... you can only send and receive SMS nothing else.
but we think that we will be able to use it as a phone when we will have been able to make cooked roms
Thanks. It would be pretty odd when you're walking and you have a 7 inch phone on your ear. Of course there's always the head phones but I guess HTC is right in taking out the phone function on this one. Then again, there's always skype.

I think that they are totally wrong ... phone is what we all need in a computer .. have you never been listening to music with head phones and then get a call on you mobile phone ?
Sure, the shift is not a MOBILE PHONE... but it could be a computer WITH phone capability ... I will bring the SHIFT in my pocket and I would really love to use it as a phone .. They could have let the choice to the user ... why the user is just a buyer and not a customer ?

Afterall ....it is a PHONE !

Right after flashing with a new baked rom from here i have sorted out many of the software "glitches" the oem rom had and the phones performance is quite good.
im still pretty annoyed at htc that i have to rely on the community to fix their poorly coded software
but at the end of the day its device is one thing .... a phone!!!!! ....and at that, yet again it fails !! the signal reception is crap ... and when it does work the call quality is shocking for such a state of the art handset.
my sisters 2 year old samsung piece of junk gets full signal on the same network, where mine struggles with 1 bar...

Nope. I've never had any problems with SMS either and, as far as I'm concerned, the reception on this phone is 100% fine.
Thread after thread on this forum seems to be taken up with whiners who assume that every little quibble that they have is a problem for everyone. For the record, not only am I perfectly happy with my HD2 but I think HTC did a brilliant job with the hardware AND the software.
+1
I am tired of HTC bashing ... Stop it, please.
If you don't like the phone, sell it. I am very happy with mine. Never had sms problem and reception is just excellent. So the problem is not the phone it self.
No SMS problems with mine either, no bad reception, but several other "glitches".
But then again, im throwing .cabs at this phone in an extreme pace
I really do like the phone and would not want to sell it for one minute. However I do not make many calls.
My reception is shocking as well. In comparison to other phones the reception is extremely poor at best.
I said in a thread a while ago that this phone is fundamentally flawed. I say this because of the positioning of the aerial at the bottom of the phone - and HTC's recommendation not to hold it at the bottom. How the hell else do you hold a phone? And why put the aerial there in the first place?
I really don't think that the phone will get any better with ROM updates.
What I do not like about this phone is the keyboard/touchscreen. I'm slowly getting to grips with it but it's a slow process and quite frustrating. It runs very smooth no crashing or hangups thankfully. I had the SMS bug but turning it off and on cured that..for now. I've sent three texts in landscape mode typing by accident, urgh!
Signal wise, I get an average of 3/full bars in my bedroom. Living on the border between Northern and Republic of Ireland I barely got 2 with previous phones (LG Secret/Xperia X1) using o2. This is stock ROM (1.43.206.4 (70315) WWE) and stock radio (2.04.50.22_2). I'm very impressed with signal alone, but I try not to cover up the bottom.
Well I have never had to modify the way I hold the phone and, as I said before, I don't have any reception problems. If the phone were "fundamentally flawed" as you suggest then the problem you report would be experienced universally.
If people have issues with their phone then I don't have a problem with them discussing them to work together to find a solution. However, that's not what is happening in this forum. Instead people are just whining, complaining and making ridiculous claims and assumptions. The phone isn't fundamentally flawed, it works perfectly for the silent majority who don't have any problems. I understand if people get frustrated by annoying problems but you'd be far better off working constructively to find solutions rather than talking crap.

A solution to what exactly? the fact that the phone has an aerial in a silly place. Best reach for my multitools in order to reach a solution that is constructive then.

Totally agreed. The other small issue that people are forgetting is that if you sell the HD2 then you are fairly certain to lose money.

As I said, there's nothing wrong with the position of the aerial. However, feel free to go ahead and prove me right.

No, all it tells me is that most people that come here to complain are having problems. Nothing more and nothing less.
Has it occurred to you that you might be the problem rather than HTC or the phone? In between all the *****ing and moaning you haven't bothered to tell us anything about what you've done to the phone. How do we know that you haven't installed an application that's responsible for the problems you're experiencing? How do we know that you haven't changed a setting or cocked up a registry setting? If you want help then stop this childish ranting, otherwise don't bother posting.

try going to the official HTC web site, download all the software updates. As for the reception, change the bandwidth in order to get full 3g network coverage but be warned, it will drain your batter even more!
