[Q] Uninstalling programs impossible after SE firmware update - XPERIA X1 General

A few days ago I have updated my phone using the SE update software. I made a backup of my personal data because the software told me that all the data would be erased.
After the update was completed I restored my backup succesfully. Unfortuantly all the icons of the programs I had installed on my external memorycard before the update were gone in my programlist, while their systemfiles were still at my external memorycard...
But the strangest thing is that the programs do come up in the list of programs in 'Removing Programs'. But when I select a program to remove (with the idea to install it again so I have got the icon back to open it), I get an error and the question to remove the program from the list. If I click yes the program stays in the list
So in short, the problem is that I have a lot of programs on my memorycard which I can't open because it has no icon in the list of programs. When I try to uninstall it I got an error with every program which was installed on my external memorycard before I did the update...
Hope someone can help me!

Me face the same problem
Any help would be Appreciated.
Hello Guys,
Try JEYOS software its fully functional free for 15 days, you can connect your PDA to your Outlook and download all the SMS's in to already installed JEYOs plugin, and then restore them again later on.
But be carefull as this plugin will give some hard time to the Outlook during loading and get crash, but dont worry u not gonna loose any backuped SMS's, just restart your Outlook and it will be ok.

Try to install the new version of Skype on top of the older one.

Here is a procedure
There is a lot written about this on the forum. It is a major nuisance that nothing uninstalls properly. Here is what I do:
Backup device (I use spb backup)
Turn program off. Sometimes this requires killing the running file.
Uninstall using using the uninstall function, either from the device or activesync.
Soft reset. If program still runs, kill it.
Using file explorer, remove remnants (identified by program name) from /Windows/Start Menu/Programs, /Windows, /Windows/AppMgr and /Program Files. If the program installed to the SD card you have to look there too.
Using Memmaid, kill any notifications the program created. You can use it to eliminate bad registry links, too, but that rarely works in my experience.
Soft reset
This has worked for me.
I strongly recommend being unnaturally organized about the software you install and the settings. Keep a log. After uninstalling a bunch of programs, you are probably going to want to do a hard reset and install the software you actually like, and this will be easy if you have all the information (passwords, settings) at hand. It is the only way to have a clean device with no remnants of programs that didn't properly uninstall.

Uninstalling programs is impossible after Xperia firmware update

Hi everybody,
I have a problem with all the stuff I have installed on my Xperia. Yesterday I used the official update software from SE to update my firmware. I made a backup of my personal information like contacts, messages, etc.
After the update was finished I restored the backup, and I got everything back...
Ofcourse my programlist was clean and the programs like for example TomTom, Xperia Tweak, etc. were gone. But I installed this programs on my memorycard and I noticed that the list behind "Removing Programs' isn't that clean....infact all the programs are still there, and when I select a program to remove it gives an error. It says it's not possible to remove these programs.
Does anybody know a way to get rid of these programs in the remove-list?
And you're sure the program isn't running in the background, right?
Yes, the firmware update has removed everything on the internal phone memory. But because the programs were installed on my external memorycard the systemfiles of these programs are still absent but I can't start the programs because their Icons are not showen in the programlist. (problem 1)
And the programnames do show up in the 'Remove Program'-list, but If I select the program overthere and push remove, I get an error it is impossible to remove it. (problem 2)

You obviously did not backup enough.
Install Total Commander, go to the .exe files in the \\Storage Card\Program Files subdirectories and choose File >>>>>> Make shortcut. The destination should be \\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
If you want to be sure, that all programs are completely removed from the system (also "Remove Programs" List), you should make a hard reset and delete them from the sd card manually!
But most programs can be started without being installed. You can simply copy and paste them.
Excuse me, 'cos I'm still before my upgrade:
So how to properly work with apps installed on card?
Let's say I make a backup with spritebackup, and I backup contacts etc. and settings.
But I don't backup apps since I want to reinstall them manually.
So, should I UNINSTALL all of them before backup?
If i where you, i would make a backup of messages, contacts, etc., then update and last make a hard reset. It deletes everything on the phone, but not on the card. So if you have installed progs on the sd card you just have to delete the "Program Files" Folder. Then you can install them new.

Sprite Backup - Restore help

OKay... perhaps someone can save me from having to reinstall from scratch - searching did not give me the answer.
Accidentally deleted all my contacts from the diamond after having had to reinstall my PC (and outlook)
I thought to myself, well, I've got SpriteBackup, right? (been running Sprite Backup regularly, excluding the Internal Storage but doing everything else.) - I'll do a restore.
It's a German O2 original ROM, I made no changes to it since the backup a few days ago. The only difference OUGHT to have been the missing contacts.
Executed the backup from Internal Storage, it ran without error, and immediately after the final soft reset I get the message that a few programs (changescreen, s2u, ...) can't be started because either a component is missing or the certificate is invalid (paraphrased German error msg)
It turns out NO Program I've installed myself will launch. Not even those I merely copied over and that normally run without an installer.
I tried factory defaults and running the restore again, with the same results -NONE of my programs work anymore and it doesn't matter if I installed them in the Programs or on Internal Storage
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to fix it without a complete reinstall (which I would absolutely hate to have to do)?
Thanks in advance,
Verrath
Solved.
I needed to run the restore from the application rather than calling the .exe, and set the restore options to "replace" rather than "merge", which seems to be the default.
Ah! I had the same problem.
The new Sprite backup has added functionality to make upgrading of ROM easier (great news for those ROM-flashers here!) so instead of overwriting all your system files with old ones it'll do a 'merge'.
You can do a hard-reset, then run the .exe file and choose to do a "Level 1" and "Merge". This should fix your problem.
If it doesn't, then you'll have to run the Sprite Backup application (Which I presume is stored on your Internal memory), Go to "Settings" -> "Restore", and choose "Replace" instead of "Merge". Now go back to main menu, choose restore, choose the backup file and it should work this time.

Few questions on new Tmobile update, please advise

Hey guys, ive only been a Wm user and a smart phone user for a month now.
I have many of the same issues with current rom and freezing and so forth.
I want to upgrade to the new released Tmobile rom released a few days ago.
When i start the file up, it indicates that all data will be removed. and phone whiped like brand new.
1. Will this delete all my contacts?
2. Will this delete all apps I have d/l from market?
3. Will this delete all setting and configurations for email and calendar?
4. Is there a simple app to back all of those up if they are removed on rom update, that I can then run after i do the update and have everything back in place how I had it before.?
5. (off topic) is there any sim cards out there that can store more then 250 contacts? in teh case of the sim, 250 numbers. I have 284 contacts with many of them having multiple numbers.
Thank you for your answers and any advice you can give me on how to transition to the new update without loosing my data or settings and lay out and programs.
It will wipe your phone just like you bought it. You can back up most things, except settings. Contacts can be backed up by two apps already on the phone, the tmo backup app and microsoft myphone. The apps from windows market can be re downloaded and the market will remember what apps you had. If you saved installed apps on your sd card they will still be they after the wipe. (Still need to reinstall them) I wiped my phone a couple of times and really the only thing I back are my contacts and my sms.

actually many apps dont need to be reinstalled.
Browse to the apps folder on the sd card (lets say samsapp)
Find the executable (samsapp.exe) and run it.
If the program runs and works fine, then all you need do is copy (as a shortcut) the executable to windows/start menu and voila, program can be run from start menu, or quicklinks, etc and didn't need to be reiinstalled.

[Q] android.process.acore PROBLEM on Froyostone! Need help asap other posts dont help

SOLVED! (Kinda).
So thanks to Post number 2 it wasnt hard to get rid of this, All you have to do is:
1.Get to the market and download titanium Backup (you will probably have to click Force close 1000 times.)
2.Backup ALL APPS AND SYSTEM DATA (It is under "batch" when you press the windows key)
3.let it finish The backup
4.Connect to USB drive and make sure its on mass storage mode.
5.You should have a new folder in your root of you memory card, it should be named Titanium Backup, make sure this folder is full of files (These are the backups), if not, then you have to lookup why it doesn't back it up because I dont know.
6.Go to Windoes mobile.
7.Go to your android folder, Erase the data.img
8.Launch android, It would create a new Data.img and would take sometime, be patient.
9.Go to market, download Titanium backup, and restore all the files.
Done, now personally I cannot restore my market apps with titanium backup, but this thread can be outdated and the answer could be here if you have the same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8165113
Problem:
Hey guys, so I dont know what happend that caused this, I woke up in the morning and took the phone out of the charger. I used it a little bit (All of this on android) and then I had to put it back in charge because it lost charge quickly. After about 10 minutes I took out the phone again and wanted to call someone, when I went to contacts it was all empty (SIM and Phone), I didn't have time so I made a battery pull, ran windows mobile, and called the person I needed. Next time that I launched android I get this error message that says "Sorry! The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly, Please try again." and the option I get is Force Close. Now when I press Force close, it just pops back up, and it goes on an infinite loop and never lets me close the notification. And between the time I press Force Close and the next one comes up, I try to check what works and what doesn't, the Phone application does not even launch, other then that everything else works normal (Sense is working, apps are working) But everythying is SLOOOOW.
Please do not tell me to Format my SD card and start over because I have a million apps and I don't want to lose them all (If you do it reminds me of the days that I had an iPhone and everytime I had a problem people from ModMyi would tell me to RESTORE.)
And if I have to Erase and format is it possible to keep all the apps somehow? Thanks for all the help!
P.S.
I have looked into all the other posts, non help, but from my research I have found that Flashing new ROMs will make no difference.

Sorry, bad news. What you might try to do is a Titanium backup (free from market) and save all your apps, then do the format. I ran into this when trying to run android on very low battery power, and it hosed my sd card. I actually needed to download the deep formatting program from the SD card alliance to restore functionality.
You might be able to copy all your sd card files to your hard drive in your PC, reformat and re-install, then copy all your files back to your sd card and it might work. It really depends on if you can copy without the file errors. I'm suggesting doing this copying in windows, not android btw.
Good luck.
Thankks, I will have to check later in the evening (In about 4 hours). I will first try to see if I copy a new DATA.IMG it will fix it, if not then I will formatt and put the data img back.
Thanks.
I had this same problem but it was solved with a reboot.
Also, I believe copying over a new data.img will get rid of all your apps.
Solved
Solved! Look at the top I edited it with the info how
Do I seriously need to hit "Force close" 1000 times?! There must be another solution. This is really annoying. Android was working fine (except for poor battery life) on my HD2 until two days ago.
Is this likely to happen again? How can I prevent it.... once I've solved it this time?
