Java based games with O2 Xda Mini ?

offical O2 source say;(http://www.seeo2.com/support/Xphone/template/XphoneKnownLimitations.vm)
''O2 Xphone is not bundled with a Java Virtual Machine. This means downloaded Java based games & applications will not run. Some WEB and/or WAP sites which require Java may not display correctly due to this. As O2 is committed to continually improving its products, users are encouraged to visit ''
is that true?
You owner of mini/Jam /xdaIIi do not play Java based games over internet via GPRS/wireless .(like Yahoo Games etc.)?
and normal downloaded pocket PC games (like Chess)?
and continue ;
Bluetooth.
O2 Xphone does not support beaming of files to another phone via Bluetooth.
GPRS
O2 Xphone does not support suspend & resume. If user is surfing the web, selecting refresh will re-connect GPRS automatically.
Internet Explorer
To access some WAP pages, users may need to put wsp:// instead of http:// in the beginning of the URL. For secure WAP pages, users may need to use wsps:// instead of https://
MMS
When viewing MMS, you need to press navigate softkey and then back key twice to go out of the MMS viewer.
GPRS will not automatically disconnect after sending and receiving MMS. Users will need to press and hold the home key and select 'Disconnect GPRS' to do so.
After taking a picture using the camera application, you are not able to send a MMS immediately. This is because the camera application and MMS are 2 separate software which are currently not linked. However, the picture taken is saved on the same directory as the MMS. When users need to attach the photo, users can find the captured image in the \Storage\My Documents directory.
O2 Xphone does not support Video MMS
SMS
On the English version of the O2 Xphone, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified) SMS received will not be displayed. It will show up as square boxes.
all of the above are true ?
if yes, trash it !!!!

Hotmail on Universal

Browser - Opera 8.5 beta
Device - Qtek 9000
Connection - GPRS T-mobile
Location - USA
For some reason, when using GPRS, going to hotmail, it takes me to msnmobile instead of the regular hotmail webpage despite using Opera.
Not only that, it doesn't take me to the mobile hotmail page, even after I log on.
Anybody knows a solution around it?
Tried searching for hotmail but nothing came up that provided me with the solution.
Actually Opera does not offer a user-configurable User-Agent to enable identification of Opera as IE6 so you are forced to mobile websites.
A work around which I did is as follows:-
1) Open your usual hotmail site on your windows xp computer.
2) When the site has fully opened the address bar on your windows xp web browser will look something like this (http://by20fd.bay20.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/hmhome? *******)
3) Copy and paste this entire address to a word document on your windows xp computer and save the word document.
4) Using active sync transfer this word document from your windows xp computer to your pocket pc and open with Word Mobile
5) Run Opera on your PPC and copy and paste the address from your word mobile document to the address bar in the opera window.
6) Press the go button and the website will display.
7 Now you can save the open website as one of your Favourites and this way you will not have to follow the entire procedure each time you want to go to the hotmail site.
It works for me and hope it does for you sas well.
Kind Regards
nope, still automatically redirects to mobile.msn.com
Really frustrating!
Okay go to the mobile MSN account as opera would take you. Then enter your username and password and log in. Also click the radio button for opera to remember both the username and password i.e. the uppermost radio button. Exit opera then retry the procedure in my above post.

Click to collapse
try adding a new section to the opera.ini file in \Application Data\Opera :
[User Agent]
Spoof UserAgent ID=1
Full options are:
Opera = 1
Mozilla = 2
Internet Explorer = 3
Mozilla, no Opera mention = 4
Internet Explorer, no Opera mention = 5
Let me know

Thanks for the info
YES! It works. Changing the User Agent file does allow it to go to the regular hotmail webpage. Don't forget to soft reset.
FYI, I'm using the Opera 8.5 beta on my Qtek 9000.
Google.com still doesn't work on GPRS though. Works great when connected to PC via Activesync....just not through GPRS.
One other thing I need to mention also, after adding the User Agent to the ini file, the top bar where the address and all the icons are, have a background issue. The icons and the address bar all show up fine, but just the background is a little messed up. Nothing you can't live with.
Thanks again Aefelix.

Thx, will try that now...
I noticed something though, i normally use WAP over GPRS to browse, i tried it and it didn't work (copy hotmail link and paste it).
But then when i was hooked up via WIFI, it worked on PIE without changing any setting!
How could that be? :?
Jamps...
I've also noticed that when I use Wi-Fi, hotmail works just fine.
But please do try AeFelix's fix and see if it works for you too.
Hi Aefelix,
Tried modifying the Opera.ini by adding the User Agent section as advised.
Now it takes me to the regular hotmail login page and allows log in as well. But after log in none of the links such as Mail, Calendar, etc appear to work. So I cannot actually go beyond the page which appears after the log in is through.
Anybody else experienced this and any suggestions??
Kind Regards

WM2003SE Internet browsing popup

Hi!
When I navigate on the web using Pocket Internet Explorer on my pda-phone I cannot have access to some forum or view via browser my mail account.
I call my phone provider (gsm/gprs) and they tell me that I must not have activate IE' popup block.
Where can I found this option?
Thanks!
w_S
Your phone provider has morons in technical support!
There is no such thing as "pop-up blocker" in PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer).
The reason you can not see many sites is because this browser is very limited, it can not handle java and other things many sites, particularly forums and mail need to display properly.
What you need to do is download the free minimo (mozila) browser. It can handle almost any site and has tabs and other goodies - the downside is it is extremely slow (heavy app).
haha
I had my suspicions about that...
When they tell me about popup a huge doubt grow in me!
I thought I'm wrong
...
But there is a strange thing. One of my friend have hp 6515 with Windows Mobile 2003se and he can access to one forum that I can't access with my xda! ...it's strange...
What do you think about opera?
Thank you,
w_s
i'm not sure what the deal is with your friend being able to browse the website while you can't, but i do highly recommend opera's latest beta. far and away a better browser than pie, with many more features such as tabs and flash support. most definitely one of, if not the, best for internet browsing on pocket pc.
here's the link for WM2003:

Or trying using Opera Mobile as your main browser.

Wizard Apps

What are some of the more interesting things I can do with a PPC phone? Something like the Remote Desktop, which I've had a lot of fun with. I have a blog hosted on Livingdot, can I remotely maintain and update my site, etc. Just looking for some creative applications
I had a nice guitaru tuner on mine for awhile... it had additional features not found on your average cheapo digital tuner.
I've used mine with real-time chat programs that let me real-time chat on Yahoo, MSN, and AOL.
I haven't tethered mine to my notebook yet, but that would be an easy way to provide yourself a data connection for a notebook pc while on the go (provided you have an unlimited data plan like I do).
I keep Google Maps installed on it, and Opera's latest web browser for Pocket PC phone edition. I use the latter for superpages.com to get addresses, and the former Maps program to find the location of those adresses. Not a GPS but the next best thing.
WM5torage is a great app if you want to listen to your music on your xbox 360!

IE & Opera 10.x Mobile - synch and sort favorites sorting, flash plugin

Hi there,
on the HD2 I have set up IE (Internet Explorer Mobile) and Opera 10. Could someone help in the following annoying behaviour:
1. Favorites in IE aren't sorted by name. I cannot manage to have the sorted just by Name.
2. Previous versions of Opera Mobile suported at least to import IE Favorites as Bookmarks. Opera Mobile 10 does nothing here. Is nice tool available for that task? Is sorting by name possible i Opera Mobile 10?
3. Regarding flash content, I have read that at least IE may support flash in limited mode. However, I cannot see any flash content with both players. It's a shame. The often noted alternative Skyfire isn't usefull. Any traffic is routed through their site and I to not trust that way of data processing.
Thank you
Chris
