Hi all,
Firstly, WOW what a handset! This has to be the best HTC handset yet!
Anyway, on to my problem/request...
Is there a way to enable loading of images in the email messages on my handset? At the moment, I get empty windows with a red "x" in them.
Thanks all!
Wayne
there should be an 'internet pictures blocked' message at the top of it. click on that to allow them and you should see the images.

Duh! Thanks!
Is there a way (perhaps a reg edit) that will allow this by default? I have got the amount of data downloaded set to a minimum so not bothered about the size of the email. Would just be nice to get the images by default.
Once again, thanks!
Just replying to this to keep it fresh. Not sure what replies I'll get if this moves too far down the list
Not ever found such a reg key to allow this.... it's a right royal pain in the ass.
Only work around Ihave ever found is to use a 3rd party application like Flexmail by Webis - http://www.webis.net/products_info.php?p_id=mail
(But I don't use it myself as I find it a little unwieldly with my Corporate ActiveSync integration)
If you use a third party mail checker, does it integrate into TF3D and S2U2 like the default mail software?
Enable e-mail images by default?

Wanted to re-visit this thread folks. Anyone know of a way of always enabling images in e-mail because this is a royal pain in the arse!
Failing that is there an alternative e-mail client?
Cheers...
No images.

Well, no, I click on that, tries to (?) download images, still no images...
Same with the RSS hub reader... no images whatsoever.
IE and Opera running smoothly (with images ), so it's not a problem with the Internet access...
Thanks for help
(currently on Miri's WinMo 6.5 ROM (latest Premium 7.3 release), but same behaviour on Dutty's and others)
This is a long standing issue with Windows Mobile.
Microsoft "claim" its a security "feature". I still remain unconvinced. Since when have Microsoft been bothered about my security?
;-)
Okay, my first thoughts on the Hero.
Good
------
Hardware is lovely. The unit feels just right in the hand, and graphite colour is great.
Screen is very sharp and has excellent colour.
Sense UI is a huge improvement over stock Android is virtually every way.
HTC E-Mail client is great compared to standard cupcake version.
Browser is very fast, and text wrapping is very effective.
Phone is now unlocked and running on Vodafone (thanks to the folks at unlock-now.com). It detects this, and offers to update all my settings accordingly. Nice.
Bad
----
HTC Smart Dialer doesn't correctly display contacts that only have a company name in them. The numbers show up but with 'unknown' next to them. They display properly in the 'People' application, so it's definitely a HTC bug (I seem to remember the same problem with early versions of this dialer on WM).
GMail client won't let me set a 'reply-to' field. I use GMail for all my e-mail, but use a forwarding service (pobox.com) so want to set my reply to field accordingly. I can get the functionality by using the HTC e-mail client, but then I lose HTML mail capability.
GMail and HTC Mail don't integrate in the mail widget. You can only see accounts configured using HTC Mail.
Flash in browser is very hit and miss. Some simply stuff works, but not much.
Standard calendar application is rubbish. The iPhone is way better here. I guess I'll be looking for a third party alternative.
I'll post more as I discover it.
Bagpuss.
Cool, thanks for the quick update.
When you say the standard calendar is rubbish, can you elaberate more on this? I use the calendar quite a bit and was hoping there would be a widget to show tasks/appointments on my home screen.
Any chance of a video going round the calendar or a good detailed explanation of it?
Sorry to ask again, but the reviews say that the phone WILL sync directly with Outlook (not just exchange) and I have ordered one on that understanding. Could you confirm this for me, please? Ta...

Sorry, don't know about this as I don't use Windows or Outlook.
From what I understand, you can sync with Outlook, but you need to use the HTC Sync software. The only problem is that HTC haven't yet made the Hero version available for download. If you go to their support site, they don't have a section for the Hero yet. I'm guessing this will change once the phone is officially released SIM free.

The main problem is that you can't get a month view, and be able to move across days to see what they actually contain. On my E71, you see the month calendar on the left, and a small pane on the right which changes to show the events for each day. On the iPhone, you get something similar, but see the details at the bottom of the screen. On the Hero, you get a full screen month display, but have to click on individual days to see the detail. Not a big thing for some, but it's a change to what I like.
You can go to what they call 'Agenda' view which gives you a long list of all upcoming appointments, but you can't get a week view. There is a day view, however.
There is a calendar widget, and it does show today and tomorrow details, but it's very small.
Hope that helps,
Bagpuss.

Hi I´m newby spanish user.
I just bougth an HTC Hero with orange and I will like to use the phone with movistart => I need to free the phone. Is it the same as unlock the phone? Is a good method unlock using emai? Did you do it at "http://hero.unlock-now.com/sim-unlock-HTC-Hero/"?
A lot of thanks, sorry for my bad english.

Any Speed Issues noticed? Can You give us a brief Comparison to fE iphone 3G, 3GS or maybe TouchHD/Blackstone?
Thanks for the quick little review!
Just a quick couple of questions:
- Im not believing the battery life some have stated as the phone seems to be fully working round the clock
- Can the handset be rotated the other landscape way? So that the trackball is on the left side?

That's exactly were I got it unlocked. They were incredibly fast. I had my unlock code within about 10 minutes of ordering.
Simply insert your foreign SIM, it will prompt you for the unlock code. Enter the code from unlock-now.com, and it all works.

Not sure on the battery life at the moment, as I've not had it long enough to tell.
Sadly, you can't rotate it so the trackball is on the left. It's only a software thing, though, so HTC might implement it in future.

Hi Bagpuss,
I have a question. I have two different gmail addresses that I normally use. Is it possible to have the two accounts setup in the phone? Basically I want to know how it handles two e-mail accounts and two google calendar accounts.
Thanks mate.

yes the sync software for the orange phone is on the micro sd card provided you plug it in go to mass storage mode and then run the .exe I have syncned all my contacts and calendar , unfortunatly you cannot sync any other outlook items this way currently

you set up the reply to address on the Gmail website.
It's in Settings > accounts, and it sends as whatever you have the default email address set to in the 'send mail as' section.

No, you can not be signed in to two Gmail accounts at once. you can set up a second Gmail account in the mail application to access your mail from the second account, but i don't know any way to access calendars from a second account unless you can share calendars between accounts. maybe that will work?
How is the screen outdoors?

Thanks, I think that will do. I can sign in with one of the Gmail accounts and set the other one in the mail application. Regarding the calendars I just noticed that all my google calendars are only in one of the accounts. So I will sign in on the phone with that one and use the other only in the mail application.
The only problem will be moving all my contacts from one account to the other...

Just got mine as well,
I noticed that there was considerable amount of lag for the first hour of using it, but now all the lag is gone and its working amazingly well.
HTC have taken a lot of the ideas from this site and implemented it in the sense ui, Customising the phone is fun and really easy, the only thing I'm unhappy with is being unable to get my Hotmail, and I don't really want it forwarded to my gmail.

Correct me if wrong, but you can always create a new dummy gmail account, forward your mail to that, and set in the gmail website that your 'identity mail address' (from address AND reply-to) is your hotmail address.
that way other people will not notice you use gmail to retrieve it (unless they look in the headers). Thing is you can't manage your hotmail account that way (delete / move / mark as read your mail)

Funnily I got hotmail working through the standard email app, it doesn't push the email but you can set the frequency at which it syncs, so it's good enough.
Also while using the hero i'v noticed that some times the phone doesn't respond after unlocking and it takes a couple of seconds to respond to your touch.
got mine this morning
only just got home to play with it.....
must say it really "feels"like a nice phone....time to play now

Seriously, I was liking WMP7 until I read this. Gotta love that Android did this out of the box.
Glad my N1 will be able to do things my friends phone won't be able to when they get WMP7 lol
So you can copy and paste from your emails on your Nexus ?

At least we can do it at all, maybe not in emails, but other parts of the OS (without third party applications). I've never had to copy and paste from an email before, but I imagine for those who need to - you would be quite irritated people.
They will get an app for it eventually, right? Lol..
how about the stock calendar app?
No copy and paste in that is a real pain, I have business appointments with conference call numbers and they just made the passcode numbers much longer.
It wouldn't be so bad if the calendar recognised numbers with commas and hashes in them so you could tag the passcode onto the phone number eg.
01234567890,6789012345#
appears as to separate hyperlinks to the phone app instead of one.
not trying to hijack this thread but if anyone knows a way round this....
withthe sense Rom you can c&p in the native email app
I think this is a major flaw in the email program, but you CAN log into the mobile version of gmail on your browser and copy/paste. The mobile version is better anyway since it lets you see more than just your inbox.
I do think it is pretty pathetic that the mobile browser version is better than the APP, but this is indeed a valid workaround for the issue.

The app lets you see other labels as well by selecting Menu -> View Labels and then selecting your desired label to view.
The OP should mention "Windows phone 7" and not WMP7 (windows media player 7)
Still gonna get a wp7 phone if it comes to tmoblie (and is made by htc) since i will qualify for a upgrade in oct. Just gonna use along with my nexus one.
is there a way i can get the hd2 to automatically download my emails when it comes to my phone its annoying having to wait for it to download everytime i want to see an email

Yeah I too am interested in knowing this
I too use gmail
It has a push email server option.
It has the facility to import mail & contacts from numerous other accounts.
If your regular account is a gmail (or gmail 'family', ie Sky) account, you can forward mail from it to your gmail push email account.
This way I have a 'one stop shop' single push email account on my HD2 for my numerous email accounts. Can reply from the received account too.
I have set the option to also leave collected mail on the original server.
Have been using it faultlessly for a year.

Have read your post many times. I thought I had answered it!
Push email is delivered to your device as soon as it arrives in your server's mailbox. AUTOMATICALLY
this thread is quite comical - it seems many of us are interested in this - however people are answering it with either a totally different subject or actually not answering at all.
@RalphS - to be fair, you didn't answer it at all. We all know the email is SUPPOSE to arrive automatically once the Gmail servers or Hotmail servers pick it up, however it is not being pushed to the phone AUTOMATICALLY. You have to set a schedule for it which by default is to check every two hours unless you change it. It is NOT being PUSHED.
This is the point and also the reason "ariel123" posted a very common question most here would like a solution to.
Reading the question would avoid confusion. Clearly you did not understand the question despite "reading it amny times" - bottom line, no, you didn't answer it!

It would be easier to answer the question if the OP asked it in clear English using correct grammar and spelling. It's a bit difficult to answer something that appears to be written by a child who expects help from mind readers.
The first post certainly did seem to be asking about push email which explains why people have offered gmail as a suggestion. However, the OP's subsequent posts seem to be about downloading entire emails rather than just headers. If this is the case (and it's impossible to be certain given the lack of legible detail in the posts) then do the following if you're using Exchange or EAS:
- Click on Start>Tools>Activesync.
- Click on Menu>Options, select your exchange server and click on Settings.
- Click on Next twice, select Email and then click on Settings.
- Select Entire Message from the Download size limit combo and tick the Include file attachments option.
- Click on OK and then click on Finish.
It has been properly answered - seriously.
My incoming mail is PUSHED to my mobile AUTOMATICALLY in REAL TIME WITHOUT A SCHEDULE.
Notification of the previous post arrived, of it's own accord, @ 14:15.
I do not have my own mail server. I rely solely on the Gmail exchange server to SEND to me my incoming mail, in their entirety, PUSHED in real time, collected from my numerous accounts, all for free.
In my 1st post I gave the link on how to set up for push email.

Dear Developers,
browsing the gmail in iphone 3gs is more easy and powerful. However, it is not that easy in HTC HD2
I mean HTC is not showing the images, fonts, signature etc.. included in the email messages when I open a message! It says that message will be downloaded next time you connect and receive email.
Any help any cab file that could make as iphone does.
You need to set up your email account so it download the entire message instead of a portion of it (50k, headers only, and etc).
Pictures won't be downloaded right away though.
i also dont feel comfortable using mail with hd2.
Thank you bachviet for fast response,

Select your mail account in the window. Click on "Download Size Settings". Select "Entire Message" in the Message Download limit: dropdown box.

I know this is an old thread...
but really the "email" app that comes with the HD2 sucks, especially when you're used to the amazing gmail interface that you get on android phones.
Things like archiving and searching mail are extremely useful, and one of the mail reasons I use it for my email. But this phone really just butchers those functions.

childish??? maybe, But the software works how it works.
How's this:
Search WM Marketplace, Handango, and OMarket for a 3rd party email program. If you can't find one to your liking, then there isn't much else we can do. If it bothers you badly enough, you might be happier going back to the evil empire.
