Plus it loads 10 times faster. Very handy app!
Yeah, this is really fast and zippy. Very nice interface. Hope they can include hardware button assignments to zoom in and out in the future.
Worls great on the Wizard, even without OCing.
I couldnt seem to get this to work with wifi. Any ideas?

Anyone know of a mapping app that will save the maps for OFFLINE viewing? I don't use WiFi all that often, and I would like the program to save the maps for my city, so I can view them offline.
Any ideas?
TIA
I love the google maps app, but have found a problem. It seems to have added a function under the contacts menu for outlook contacts that allows you to search google maps for a saved address. Only problem is, I have yet to get it to work. I always get an error message saying the address doesn't exist. I've even gone so far as to type in my address, copy the address format directly from google maps itself, pasted it in to my contact and I still get the same error. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you.

If I remember correctly, map4pda has a function to cache to your memory card. I don't use it anymore though, for that reason actually.

Yeah, the address location thing doesn't work for me either
It always says "Unable to locate: " then the address, exactly as it should be.
I'd imagine Google will fix it soon. I just checked for a new version but it's still the 1.0.1 version.

I have this problem too. I have GPRS disabled and I would like to keep multiple driving directions for offline viewing as well. Map4PDA and Google Maps doesn't seem to be able to save information for offline driving directions. I emailed the developer for Map4PDA to see if there was a way, but no response yet. Anyone have any ideas as to be able to do this? Thanks.
Google Maps is working great for me right now. Like stated previsously, contact's address does not work.
I also use Virtual Earth Mobile...another great mobile map application.
I would use map4PDA, but i don't want to have to install .NET CompactFramwork as it takes up a lot of space on my PPC. I've used it before, and it's great, but I'll just stick with Google Maps & VirtualEarthMobile.
wm6 and google maps? a match made in hell?
Wondering if anyone knows a solution to this problem. I am running Google maps and wm6 and was wondering if there was a way to get it to stop coming up with the following error; "This program requires a data connection, and will retry automatically. in the mean time, please check your signal strength. (error:wininetReadError [6])"
It still loads the maps after prompting me with this annoying error screen. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
My best regards,
Gio
I get the same error as capncucci. I never tried the program with WM5 so I can't say if it occured there or not.

When i connect my WM5 to the pc with active sync and i use googlemaps i sometimes get this error also.
Gmaps just cant connect to the internet, when i press ok, it will work.
So proberly your connection (with AC, GPRS, WiFi) to the internet isnt that reliable.
Can some friendly soul tell me why the maps doesn´t show when you enter http://maps.google.se or geocaching.com? Seems something is missing in explorer, opera and operamini. Something i can install to get it to work?
bump

Is there a reason for using it over the google maps app?
Sure, googlemap app dont show the geocaches.
you may want to try this tip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470001&highlight=about:config
after that try google maps again and it'll probably work.
good luck
Didn´t work. But i didn´t know about those settings. Will look around there and c if i find something else to change.
Thanks for the tips.

Just recently my google maps is working. The minute I tap on it, it turns off. Could this be from a google maps update? Can someone help me with this please? I tried rebooting it but it still hasn't worked.

try wiping the cache/dalvic cache from recovery. it might work. you can also go to apps find google maps and uninstall updates/clear data/cache to see to see if this help.
I had to revert back to maps that came with the phone. Don't know which update was making it do that so its working now. Thanks for your help. But I was also wondering what this star was on top of my screen. Didn't know if it had something to do with maps or not. Does anyone know what this is? I've attached it.

This star has nothing to do with the maps or other application.
It's about sound profile and probably you had put your device in silent mode.
Its actually annoying not knowing exactly what it is so I want it gone from up there lol. So I'm trying to figure out how to remove it. My phone's sound is on so I don't know why it would be there if its pertaining to sound.
Hi. I want to change my default Navigation app to basically ANYTHING except Google Maps. Wanted either CoPilot, Here, or Waze. I have my search provider set to Bing even but when I click on any direction link, it takes me to Google Maps. I've gone into Apps and even disabled that and ensured other Nav apps are set to open always, but it still goes to Google and Then takes me to the Play Store so I can download/Enable Maps. Any way around this? Pretty crappy of Google to do this....
Go to settings/apps & notifications/default apps/opening links. Scroll down to Maps and click on it. Click on open supported links and select don't open in this app. Hopefully it will let you choose your other navigation app when you click on a link but I've never tried that. The reason Android wants to use Maps is because Maps is integrated with Google Play Services and your Google account and a third party app won't provide the same kind of integration because it would require giving a third party app elevated privileges that are not allowed without root.
Hi and thanks. I had already tried that unfortunately. It doesn't work. ANY link you click for directions on a web page, even if asked to open only gives the option of Edge and Maps. A calendar invite or something like that will ask and give a list of valid mapping applications like Waze, Here, etc. But links on a web page......only Maps.
Having Maps integrated with Google Play services is just another reason NOT to want to use it.

If you're rooted there might be a tasker profile that does what you want but it doesn't seem to be possible without root.

Thanks for the reply. Bummer. So Google locks you into their apps even if you search with Bing. Seems like Microsoft got in a lot of trouble with the government about 20 years ago over this sort of tactics.
