Can some friendly soul tell me why the maps doesn´t show when you enter http://maps.google.se or geocaching.com? Seems something is missing in explorer, opera and operamini. Something i can install to get it to work?

Is there a reason for using it over the google maps app?
Sure, googlemap app dont show the geocaches.
you may want to try this tip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470001&highlight=about:config
after that try google maps again and it'll probably work.
good luck
Didn´t work. But i didn´t know about those settings. Will look around there and c if i find something else to change.
Thanks for the tips.

Anyone know of a mapping app that will save the maps for OFFLINE viewing? I don't use WiFi all that often, and I would like the program to save the maps for my city, so I can view them offline.
Any ideas?
TIA
I love the google maps app, but have found a problem. It seems to have added a function under the contacts menu for outlook contacts that allows you to search google maps for a saved address. Only problem is, I have yet to get it to work. I always get an error message saying the address doesn't exist. I've even gone so far as to type in my address, copy the address format directly from google maps itself, pasted it in to my contact and I still get the same error. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you.

If I remember correctly, map4pda has a function to cache to your memory card. I don't use it anymore though, for that reason actually.

Yeah, the address location thing doesn't work for me either
It always says "Unable to locate: " then the address, exactly as it should be.
I'd imagine Google will fix it soon. I just checked for a new version but it's still the 1.0.1 version.

I have this problem too. I have GPRS disabled and I would like to keep multiple driving directions for offline viewing as well. Map4PDA and Google Maps doesn't seem to be able to save information for offline driving directions. I emailed the developer for Map4PDA to see if there was a way, but no response yet. Anyone have any ideas as to be able to do this? Thanks.
Google Maps is working great for me right now. Like stated previsously, contact's address does not work.
I also use Virtual Earth Mobile...another great mobile map application.
I would use map4PDA, but i don't want to have to install .NET CompactFramwork as it takes up a lot of space on my PPC. I've used it before, and it's great, but I'll just stick with Google Maps & VirtualEarthMobile.
wm6 and google maps? a match made in hell?
Wondering if anyone knows a solution to this problem. I am running Google maps and wm6 and was wondering if there was a way to get it to stop coming up with the following error; "This program requires a data connection, and will retry automatically. in the mean time, please check your signal strength. (error:wininetReadError [6])"
It still loads the maps after prompting me with this annoying error screen. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
My best regards,
Gio
I get the same error as capncucci. I never tried the program with WM5 so I can't say if it occured there or not.

When i connect my WM5 to the pc with active sync and i use googlemaps i sometimes get this error also.
Gmaps just cant connect to the internet, when i press ok, it will work.
So proberly your connection (with AC, GPRS, WiFi) to the internet isnt that reliable.
Hey everyone,
I have a problem running google maps, it installs fine but everytime i want to run it an error pops up saying that it isn't signed or that a component might be missing. The strange thing is that it was working before when i got the device and installed it and after a hard reset it doesn't anymore. It kinds of bugs me because i use it quite often!
if anyone is able to help me please don't hesitate!
Thanks!
Math
with your mobile, go to http://mobile.htc.com/uk/01_applications.html and download it from there. then it will work again. before doing this, uninstall the installed version.
Thanks, it worked!

Cheers

I just did the update and now the Maps search Touchflo 2D menu option does nothing. Maps itself is fine. Any ideas how to get the search option to launch Maps again?
Tried soft reset already?

Try installing Google maps to the internal storage, should work then.
However, does anyone know if there's a way to make location tab work even with google maps installed on the card?

Doh! Thanks for that, it works from main memory. It would be nice to have the option to run from card though.

Hi there. The unit I got in Malaysia doesn't come with google maps. The icon on the touchflo is missing. Where would I start if I want this application? Thanks.

True. Sophisticated Google maps capabilities do not work in some locations, Malaysia included. You may need to use M2DC to enable the "Location" tab in TF. See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427392

Thanks for the info. Won't waste anymore time searching!
Anyone know of any apps for quick searching for phone numbers? Obviously one could use a browser and google..but what about a simple app that wouldn't take for ever to load, where you could type in a name and it would have 2 buttons, one to search people and one to search businesses..If anyone would even want to help guide me on how to create an app like this I'm up for it too...Not a programmer by trade but I can hack some code with the best of them. Let me know...Thanks
google maps does works well, so does the bing app.
I'm trying to find where the navigator app is in a rom that has it and Im not finding it in /system/app or maybe im not looking for the right name, not sure...
the htc navigation icon thingy, if that is what you are looking for, i believe it is called something like htcnavipanel.apk, i am not running a rom with it on it right know to check the name. it seems safe to delete, navigation still runs via Google maps without issue

I have seen it in /data/app
and yeah its the navi panel apk... Many of the roms coming out don't have it anymore, I liked it but when I tried to reinstall it, it did not work... I guess we are just supposed to use navigation out of maps...
I'm a noob, so I could be completely wrong here... but from what I've seen, Google Navigation itself is a part of Google Maps. On most of these ROMs, there is a "default" version of Maps that is installed which is currently out of date which is located in /system/app/Maps.apk. After you install a new ROM, when you go to the Market, you'll see an update is available for Google Maps. When you install that, it installs to /data/app/com.google.android.apps.maps.apk. If you watch the log when the phone starts up, I think it detects the old version in /system/app and it says that it is "ignoring" it. I've deleted the old one in the past and it hasn't made a difference (but if you do this and break something, don't blame me).
The /system/data/HtcNaviPanel.apk app is just the app that is usually used in the car. It has icons which has shortcuts to make a call, maps, navigation, footprints, etc. Outside of that app, I'm not exactly sure if there's a way to launch Maps to get directly to Navigation? Maybe a widget (I've seen some Maps widgets, but haven't played around with them much).
so i have JPF and lagfix but when i use, example CoPilot live, or navigon it doesnt find my location and the gps optimiser isnt working, but when i use google maps it finds my location in couple secs... whats wrong???????? and the #*#*1472365#*#* code DOES NOT work for me it doesnt do anything... gps booster doesnt work either... this SUCKS!!!!!!
are you sure google maps finds your gps location, not your network location? well if so, then just opening google maps and getting your location then opening your app of choice should work (a lil hassle, yes, but not that big). Also I'd check to see if gpssetup2 finds your location, and how long it takes.
You can make a homescreen shortcut for gpssetup2 by downloading anycut, choosing shortcuts ->any cut->gpssetup2
Your right... when i turn dont use wifi location it doesnt find me anymore... ill try any cut
EDIT: how do i make the shortcut? I press add shortcut----->make your own----->gpssetup2 and then it says shortcut created but where is it? When i press activities it just gives me a black screen... thanks in advance
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
ok. i got the shortcut but it DOESNT work!!!!
really? did you try the other stuff?
I mean the shortcut works but it doesnt get my location i waited over 10mins... <----- and if it takes more than 10mins im not going to use it.... what is wrong? It must be in the rom cuz when i was in eclair it worked perfectly... qhat other methods???
