I don't know exactly how it is called, but I will refer it as the SIP changer menu. This is the little arrow right of the virtual keyboard icon in the middle of the softbar (bottom taskbar).
I've tried several ROMs but only one (cmEx) includes the HTC SIP changer menu (maybe also called ezinput or ezsip). Also I've installed Itje's Blackstone keyboards on my X1 and I now have the HTC keyboards (full qwerty, compact qwerty and phone keypad). I looked inside that cab and I see a registry key called ezsip. Inside that key there is a DWORD value called "BioToShowMenu". When this value is changed from 0 to 1 the HTC SIP changer menu appears.
The HTC SIP changer seems like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
On the cmEx rom this menu appears if you click the arrow right to the virtual keyboard (SIP) icon. By default on the X1 you get the windows SIP changer menu which is way worse than the HTC one.
So how do we change it? I've searched hard for it but couldn't find any relevant info. Maybe I am not searching for the right thing so now that I've described it I hope that someone can help.
Thanks in advance.

EnableSipMenu = 1
But be forewarned: HTC's SIP changer has its limitations. You cannot change the main list because the main list is reserved for Phone Keypad, Compact QWERTY, and Full QWERTY (although an extra option will appear at the bottom as your "last used SIP"). It's particularly annoying if you like to switch between 3rd party keyboards (SPB keyboards, etc), since you will have to always go into "Other Input Methods" in order to select them.
Additionally, you can disable the HTC SIPs (Phone Keypad, Compact and Full QWERTY), but you will be left with blanks in the SIP changer menu.

Thanks for answering.
That key was one of the first I looked. For me it is always enabled to 1 but pressing the arrow next to the SIP icon never brings the HTC SIP changer. It seems that the default SIP changer menu has a higher priority and hides the HTC one.
So is there a registry key to disable the default one?
May I suggest using FingerMenu
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459125
This changes each softkey menu and SIP menu into a finger friendly scrollable menu system similar to the HTC sip menu you have shown.
The other benefit of this software is that it shows the exact same options as the standard sip menu. So it will show 3rd party keyboards from this screen as well.

It may just be an issue of the X1 ROM, since the ezsip changer was (initially) designed for the Touch Diamond/Pro/HD. On all Diamond/Pro/HD ROMs, the ezsip menu takes priority over the default menu and is controlled by the reg key I posted, so if it's not working on the X1 then my guess is that the ROM simply isn't loading ezsip in the first place.
But FingerMenu as fxcoupeman83 suggested is probably the best solution. That way you get the finger-friendly menu and can also customize which items appear on your SIP changer menu (by changing IsInputMethod reg settings or using a program to enable/disable SIPs).

Obviously ezsip is loaded somewhere because when I change the reg key "BioToShowMenu" to 1 the menu appears instantly so something definitely monitors that key. The question is what or why the default SIP changer takes priority and ezsip doesn't see then event of pressing the little arrow next to the virtual keyboard icon.

I will try it and see if that works good for me.
I just tried the program, while it is very good for its purpose it misses a specific feature that I like so much on the HTC SIP menu.
The HTC SIP Changer menu has a very fast and easy way to change virtual keyboard layouts. So, while I don't change SIPs so often, I always need to change my layout from Greek to English and vice versa, something that FingerMenu doesn't provide. In the end I need to find how to suppress the default SIP changer or make ezsip the prominent.
The key "BioToShowMenu" is monitored from the application SIPGT_app.exe. When this process isn't running the registry key does nothing. Now the question is why we don't get the menu when pressing the SIP arrow?
I am moving in circles and still I need to find a way to disable the default SIP changer menu.

As I missed New menu that was on previous versions of WM5, i looked for some replacement but didn't find anything. So I've created small app which simulates this functionality. It's actually configurable launcher with a few predefined actions. Here are some screenshots:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
Its configuration is in "Settings" (control panel). It can be bound to the both today keys and any hardware button. In certain cases (if default app is bound to a today key) the new change takes effect after soft-reset. App will notice such case.

Hey nice i missed that on wm5 :lol:
really love this forum always great stuff
Superb! I'll look into it hopefully tonight
I did the same thing yesterday myself for VJSihaya. But your implementation looks beautiful!
V
vijay555: Thanks. BTW i always wanted to make some command-line tools to one-clink send-sms and call-someone and in the half of work i found your Phone tools :lol:
Starting a new sms was easy. However, VJSMSSender required a surprising amount of work, since it bypasses the Inbox. Completely different code
What language is your app written in?
V
Its in c++
The GIU (settings) part is written with support of MFC (easiest way) but i plan to rewrite it into version without MFC, because of necessity of 3 additional runtime libraries, which makes whole app large.
For sending SMS i use MailComposeMessage which makes sending of whatever very easy, but the bad is that it can be used only on WM5.
WOW. Looks nice. "new menu" lost in WM5 is on a of the worst things in WM5.
Is it possible to run two instances with different configurations at the same time? One - to have new "new menu", second one, assigned to the second softkey as a quick launcher?
Hmmm. There is another way.
I reimplemented the New functionality using the original OS method, so custom New items as installed by various apps (eg Text Maker) also appear; that way it's backwards and forwards compatible with the OS (I'm trying to make VJSihaya work on Wm2003 and Wm5). PM me if you need details.
This is what I don't understand. The original OS method is still there, just the New button is missing.
I love your implementation of the customisable menu. I'm too busy to do that right now... but I need to figure out a nice method, so I can make VJTrayLaunch and a few other apps nicely customisable.
V
Nice program. How can I add more things to the menu? Like new note or something. What do I need to put in the command and parameters fields?
Cheers
baniaczek: Running two separete instaces is not possible, because there is only one configuration.
matheprat: all you need is to know the program executable and its (optional) params and fill appropriate fields. A new item you create by "New Item" button.
vijay555: It's a good idea to support original new items. I know how they works, i will think about implementation into some future version..
Great stuff! :lol:
Just found a bug,
When i press the new button, the menu shows up at the middle of the screen, i think that's because i have a vga device using landscape mode (Jasjar)...

What is the program executable, and parameters for creating a new note?
I did notice another possible bug, in that you can't seem to have just a new SMS and Appointment in the list, without a new Task too, no matter how they are checked.
Also, the menu doesn't disappear once the "new" button is reclicked, as the other menus do, something you may want to implement.
Cheers
For those who use Pocket Informant, the parameters to introduce are :
"2 -new" for a New Appointment
"4 -new" for a New Task
I still have some problems with this command line when PI is already running in the background.

Cool! I've even thought about writing the similar program myself. You saved my time
Bug. The program don't work when installed to "Ramdisk 32" or maybe also to storage card. Configuration DLL is placed into "\Ramdisk 32\Windows" subdirectory instead of "\Windows".
Another bug. After uninstalling incorrectly installed program, reinstallation ends with error.
I just ask a friend about the option of changing the shortcut and you answered my prayer fr that... Thanks for the great application
Can you add to the "Command" part a "Browse" button please? Also, will you make it open-source?
Here's my PCM Touch Keyboard. The keyboard has HTC Symbol pad's symbols fully integrated into it. By holding down certain keys for 250ms, you'd be able to toggle certain symbols. For example, holding down "a" will show all the "a" accents. Holding down "spacebar" will show common browser shortcuts, and etc etc.
*I don't know why the first picture looks brighter than the others...*

Holding down the numbers will also toggle some symbols. These are usually symbols that are listed on your ordinary full size keyboard. For example,
1=~, !
[email protected]
3=$ (and various $ signs)
5=%
As you can see, I have also included some ghetto smileys into the mode button tapping the mode button doesn't change anything as there's only 2 modes in this keyboard (caps lock and lower case - double tap shift to toggle between them). However, holding down the mode button will show some commonly used symbols found at the lower portion of a keyboard.
The keyboard is based on the English layout. If you native language is not English, simply change the first two lines of the layout to the layout you commonly use. Everything else should work regardless of the base layout.
Installation is simple, just toss both files into Program Files\PCM Keyboard, select the layout and skin from pcm keyboard option and you are done.
BEFORE INSTALLATION
-open up the layout file with notepad, and replace this line:
symbol_pad=0,)-_+±
There's an extra "-" in the original layout file as seen in picture.

sir.... looks good but couldnt try coz the file is corrupt....
Looks good, but do you still need to update the PCM Keyboard every now and then? Because the PCM Keyboard has "expired date" which is really annoying.
I would rather to pay (even in this beta version) rather than having to visit the site, download, uninstall, reinstall, etc. etc.
I'm not sure if 0.12 still expires....I'm actually rather new to PCM Keyboard...I skinned it because I wanted a better keyboard to be used with my touch style rom...and the touch xt9 keyboard/keypad is a pita.....
Well, I hope you guys like it, you can easily customize the keyboard layout file to show whatever symbols you want when you hold down a key
Wow! wonder ful. I like it...
I like the look. Its my new skin.
Shouldn't it be "http://" instead of "http:\\"?
Also i could never figure out why on the skins they always have the "'" key above the backspace instead of something like the ".". I don't use hte "'" key as much as I do ".". I usually just change it in the layout file myself.
Is it possible to have a button to switch screen orientation?
Jem777
Really nice, i usually use the PhonePad, but with these nice tweaks u've done 2 it i'll 4sure give it a try...
Thanx for a great work
As noted above, the zip file seems to be corrupt. Downloads okay but won't open.
The current version of PCMK, v.12, is set to expire on Jan 15 or thereabouts. So, yes, it still does expire. I agree it is a bit annoying. But the keyboard is generally great with the rigth skin. I prefer the other "refined" one to this. This is complete, but the buttons are too small IMO. Still both are nice. Different strokes for different folks.

Nice job!
You beat me to it I was working on the same skin and noticed this post. I tend to like a larger space bar and am used to using the pop up option or symbol pad for numbers, so I modified one of my iPhone layout files to work with this skin. These screen shots are your skin file with the Eng iphone 15 layout file (attached).
One thing to point out is you need to have clear type enabled in settings, system (tab), screen, ClearType (tab) in order for the text to display as shown.
This thread has more details on the layout features:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349647
Great your layout is easier on the fingers as the spacebar and symbols are larger. I only did a direct port on the keyboard from the touch keyboard/keypad. I've got an idea in making the touch qwerty layout more convenient will post up the layout in a bit. Also, 2manyphones, you might want to change the spacebar symbol pad to something more useful, or change the # of keys to 4 or 6. You will know why after you press and hold on the keyboard
EDIT: nvm what I said, for some reasons putting space in symbol pad isnt possible without another letter together with it. I'll modify the skin a little to make it more aesthetically pleasing with your layout.
Updated Skin for Eng iphone 15 layout
Here's an altered skin to be used specifically with 2manyphones' Eng iphone 15 layout.
Touch-XL-sym.skin = Shows Sym on mode button
Touch-XL-123.skin = Shows 123 on mode button
2manyphones, feel free to post it up in your thread
Thanks! I guess that does make more sense having the numbes pop up from a key labeled 123 instead of SYM.
Here are some screenshots with the Touch-XL 123 skin file and the Eng iphone15 layout file.
Hey Kin0Kin, how about making a cab file with both skins and this layout, so people can easily install them and choose what works best for them?

you guys put HTC to shame.. what a sh!tty keyboard they shipped.
so I bow, I salute.. you did a great job tthis and the PC Keyboard are a MUST have for anyone with the htc touch
If you're like me and:
- love qwerty
- hate having to hit the same key multiple times
- not stylus crazy. ( useful but not ALL the time )
then this is what you need. I installed and so far so good. The skin is so sweet it looks like ti shipped with HTC.
I'm no expert, this is the first thing I've "installed" imply copied to my documents and ran the PC keyboard, then I downloaded the skin and copied into the program files folder for PC Keyboard and I've been smiling since!!!
Thanks guys!
Great skin, many thanks for your work!!!
The Touch-QWERTY is working with standard PCM KB Russian layout, seem to be ok.

I wonder if there is a way to have the index letters in greek instead in russian. Also, the main problem is that it converts my greek characters into russian characters, and I don't know how to solve it.

You can use font generator (charset = 161 (GREEK)). The next step is to put them in a fonts folder of used skin
font_gen_eng.zip

Thanks for your reply!
I try to run it in my pc but it doesn't run (it says: "The system cannot execute the specified program.").
When I try to run it in ppc, nothing happens.

For me it works. I put the font_generator.exe and fonts.bat to the fonts folder of blue skin and I edit the font.bat to generate only the 4 fonts that the skin needs. After I transfer the files to device and all now are in greek!

I have the same problem. I tried and on my qtek 8500 without touchscreen and works pretty good. But need some config with the buttons.
And here is the greek language, just erase the doc extention:
Very useful application.
The only drawback is that it takes too long to load. Will this be improved in further releases?
Thanks,
Fran
Another thing I have noticed is that even though I have created ANSI fonts using fonts.bat and put them all in the corresponding FONTS folder, I still do not get the accented letters in Spanish. For example:
Where it should say "Fotógrafo" y get "Fotygrafo", instead of ""Mecánico" it shows "Mec6nico", etc.

I'm probably going to get a Z but one thing that puts me off it is I want to use it for things like coding HTML / CSS and it would be useful to have quick access to < > keys but looking at the key layout it just has ( ) keys:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But.... There is a SYM key as well as a FN key. Does that mean that some keys will have three functions, 1. default 2. FN and 3 . SYM?
Or will the SYM button bring up a list of symbols on the software keyboard to insert?
Ideally I would be able to remap ( ) to < >, could that be possible?
If it's anything like the TP2 (which I imagine it is), then the SYM key (which was accessed by pressing the FN key and another button), allows you to choose a symbol from a list shown on the screen... Sorry
Im pretty sure they could be mapped once rooted I'll look through a dump for you
[Q] Add extra keys to the hardware keyboard?
Is there a way that I can add the keys ">" and "<" to my hardware keyboard? I'm looking to see if I can add those to the two shortcut keys if possible but they only allow me to put programs on them..
I was also thinking a "Menu + N" and "Menu + M" for the two symbols but I'm not sure if that's possible either.
If that all doesn't work.. can I just add the symbols to the SYM menu? There's so few keys in that SYM menu it's actually a bit disappointing.
Thanks!

Hi! Spaniard here. I received my Z two days ago and I'm really enjoying it. However, being Spanish I need characters such as ¿ or ¡ in the hardware keyboard. I've tried every conceivable key combination, with no luck.
Does anybody know how to get those keys? Thank you in advance.
anything new in remaping?
Hi did you get any further in this? I really would like to get arrows (left and right at least) to hardware keyboard -
I've been exploring this, partly for flash games but also it would be nice to long-press the top row of keys to get numbers, rather than the alternate character menu. I've only seen old attempts on the g1, apparently its a tricky process.

As far as i remember you can access < and > by longpressing ( and ). It was mentioned somewhere here in the forum.
You cannot long press ) on the Desire Z to get GT or LT. To my knowledge there's no way save collapsing the hardware keyboard and using the softkeys.

Hmm that's strange, they left out two of the main keys. It's annoying to keep reverting to soft keyboard. I think i'll email htc so that they include it in the long-press key list in the next update.
Yeah. I doesn't make any sense, because when you long press lots of keys you get an on screen menu to select the symbol you want to insert (such as á, é, ñ...). But if you long press ? the only thing you get is ????????????? instead of a menu.
Well, at least I'm glad to know that it can't be done, I thought it was possible and I was unable to find how
I'm thinking about switching to a G2 ROM, since it seems they can get whatever symbol they want, don't they?
Mmm... it seems that in the G2 forum they have been able to modify the default keymap.

Would something like this be possible for the Desire Z?

Yeah, because they're basically the same phone (just different radio bands). I don't know if the exact same method will work on the DZ ROM, but it must be pretty close if not the same.
Mm... I don't know the first thing about Android, but having a look at the /system/usr/keychars directory I can see there are a lot of different files, besides the vision-keypad.kcm.bin. I'm quite interested in vision-keypad-esn.kcm.bin, since it seems to have something to do with Spanish
There's also a vision-keypad-esn.kll in /system/usr/keylayout.
Does anybody a way of trying to "activate" this files? I'm leaning to try to replace the vision-keypad.kl and vision-keypad.kcm.bin files with the "esn" ones, but wouldn't like to break something.
