[new release] VJSmallIcons

This program is used to shrink the icons in the Programs explorer in Pocket PCs.
It's WM5 and WM2003 compatible.
Note: it only works once, until you change folder. So assign it to a hardware key.
Note: you must launch "programs" once before use; it will complain if you don't.

i have created a shortcut in the programs folder, because i dont want it to map to a hardware-button. i renamed the link to 1vjsmallicons.lnk to get in just pretty first in the list of programs.
If i enter the programs folder i press on the shortcut and the menu is small.
But two issues:
1. if i small the icons and wlak through the list of programs i get in the second column of the list. The first column disappears and there is no way to get back. I use a qtek 9100
2. If i call the programs folder again all the icons are just small. So as if it remembers to the first call (bug or feature). Furthermore i get to the column where i have left the program menu folder.

Topcaser, what command line are you using?
VJSmallIcons only changes the current explorer screen. It doesn't try to change any others, so when you go into a subfolder it will go back to normal. The small icons can be made more permanent, but it would require more programming that I haven't had time to do yet...

I am using no option, just calling the program via a link.
btw, how can i specify an option?? And what is the sense of this option 0-4
Is it the number of cols?
And what about the second issue: i can never scroll back to the first column, once it was gone. (also with the control panel not)

topcaser: the command line 0 to 4 will change the view style, in exactly the same way as you have on your PC: large icons, small icons, details, listview etc. Just try them out!
Not sure about the contrl panel issue? Could you try to send a screenshot? Use MagicSS if you don't already have a screenshot program.

Hi,
i have posted two pics: the first shows a blue mark over snap tool. At the second one i pressed the left button to get to the most left column again. But the screen does not follow this markation.
A second question: how am i able to specify the comand line option?

Topcaser, using the settings shown in the screenshot, have you tried going up to the top, instead of left? It depends which command line option you're using, but try it just in case.

i have played around with your tool. Command line option 2 and 1 works perfect. But the best way to use it is with command line option 3. Forget Small Menu - one can use only your little app (maybe together with Mortbutton and Mortscript) - it can do the same as SmallMenu. Together with MagicButton one misses no feature at all.
Unfortunately the command line option 3 has the bug which i described above. Have you fixed this already?

Topcaser, unfortunately if there's a bug in the view, I can't really fix it. I don't do anything other than change the view style of the "listview" control that the programs menu is based on. So it's very simple. But the programs menu is not designed to have its view changed, so if it's buggy, I can't help it very much. I'll try to have another look though, someone on brighthand was complaining about making the programs menu small, and I think it might be possible to make this program resident so that it kind of retains the settings.
But this is a small program, and others have to be fixed first I'm afraid. I will try to have another look.

Hide New Menu Icon

Hi,
I need to hide the New Menu icon which is present on the bottom left of the screen. I am able to delete all items from the New Menu by deleting the following key and all its subkeys from the registry -
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Extension\NewMenu
However, the New button \ icon still remains. I need to hide or remove it completely.
Any ideas?

it'll optionally hide the new bar. WM2003 for now (testing the WM5 version now).

Thanks for help. I used your program 'Toggle New'. It works well but now I have the keyboard icon left instead. Any ideas on how to remove the keyboard icon as well? Thanks once again for any tips.

You should be using the newer version posted I think in the first post. Use that with the appropriate command line option. One of the versions in that thread fixed the SIP icon issue. I use that version, so it should work.

Thanks again vijay for your help. Although your tool works well it is not going to work for my purposes. I need to be able to customize the build of a device and need to go via the registry directly at least to hide a bare minimum the Screen Rotation icon (now done), the WLan Manager icon (changing the value of the Subkey "Keep" does not work on my device), and hiding (if possible) the bluetooth manager icon. Running your exe is useful as it removes all the icons but infortunatley now leaves the keyboard. As the device will have to reconfigure itself following a hard reset, flat battery etc... I need to do all these things and cant really use a third party exe or pass a command line argument to an exe. So I really need to know what registry key's to change or edit to get these things done, and if these changes can be done via a CAB, exe or whatever... So any tips on what registry keys to tweak would be appreciated. Sometimes (as I'm finding out!) the reg keys are not given the most obvious name, and as yet i havent found any doco on what all the reg keys do...

Dav, not sure which version you're using, but the version I've been using for months was specifically re-written to fix the SIP keyboard icon issue.
There's a new release coming relatively soon that will have WM5 dual compatibility. It might be worth waiting, but the current WM2003 version in that thread, somewhere, should solve the SIP issue.
PM and tell me what you need to do in the registry. If I can help, I will.

Did someone try to remove all new menu entries? Maybe this would hide the menu (but have the bar itself remain).

Chatty, that wouldn't work AFAIK, but it would be easy to write a program to hide the new menu button if you needed to.

Yes, you can.
I think there are programs the let you edit the menu. Just not sure what they are.
You can also do it manually, but it's just a bit tricky.
Look at the first post. Find that registry key on your device and look at it's sub keys. Each of them contains a string that will appear in the menu, and the key name gives the CLSID of the object.
You can fined the registry settings for creating the object in HKCR\CLSID.

That's the real tricky part. Not all apps register a CLSID and not all of them can create a new document from command line.
You could check how existing CLSIDs are structured, and try creating one manually for the program you want.
Unfortunately, that won't work for every program. For some there will be no way to add a 'new' shortcut.

Couple of different issues here: the dlls are published through their CLSID, so when you program a new menu extension you must have a unique CLSID.
However, having access to the CLSID doesn't do much other then let you add or remove those items to the existing New Menu.
But creating an entirely new item, eg "Create bluetooth contact" would require you to program that extension as a dll, and then add the unique CLSID to the registry entries above.
And to go back on topic, hiding the new menu button entirely is easy enough.

This is really cool. The description in the first post didn't say too much what it is about. I thought I would give it a try. It really does rotate the screen when you rotate the phone - in any program. Fantastic.
An it appears in AppToDate. Even better.

Please read the readme.txt and you will find the answers.
You can add shortcut in startup.
To exclude app use #window parameter.
To rotate TF3D home screen make no sense, because it is designed for portrait mode.

i wouldnt mind, but actually what i thought was wrong.
i wanted to exclude commmanager, dialer screen and the screen you get when someone is calling you.
so i tried with:
#window(commanager) #window(cprog)
that didnt work, so any help would be appreciated...
How to disable rotating for commanager and dialer/answer screen????

This problem has nothing to do with our tool.
If you have this kind of problem, you will have it by using another rotation (manually) tool too.

i dont understand the readme how to make a working shortcut and not ask to unload...can someone please make a version i can copy and paste to...?
and it would also be nice if this worked in touchflo 3d.

I really like this one as mentioned before...
Onlt the rotation comes with a lag. It just take 2 or 3 seconds the rotate the screen. Is there any possibility this can be done faster or is this just antoher wm thing?

Manilla2d-styled locker and today screen

Manilla2d is really impressive shell of course, but there's no some really needed functions, that we can use in basic today shell. I was really disappointed in absence of two things in it: the first one is interface-styled locker/unlocker and the second one is an ability to use basic today plugins. Of course, we've got another software solutions to fix it, but their's problem is that they don't fit to manilla's interface conception. I've tried to solve this problems, and now i'd like to share my results. Dont kick me pls=))
Eferything posted below was made for using with this theme (with background from this one) with this clock pack. You can repaint it as you wish, consider this all an exampe or an idea=))
1. S2U2. S2U2 imho is the best solution for lock/unlock device. You can find it here. (My version is 0.86) We can use it as is, but iphone-like slider don't looks native to manilla2d. To make it looks more suitable i'd to fully repaint a slider, and this is what i got at the end.

Moving part is an icon of a padlock. When moving it looks strange of course, but the only another variant i got was without unlock animation at all. So this one better)) In archive you can find gfx folder from s2u2 (to install delete your current one, there's nedded some files not to be) and lang.ini file with fixed time format string (HH:mm instead of H:mm). This skin as it is is not suitable fot those who uses slide 2 answer opion, because i didn't paint it))
2. Today plugins. The main trouble of manilla2d as i guess is that there's no a widget to install another today plugins. To solve this problem i needed the following soft:
SecondToday - virtual today-like screen.
HomeScreen PlusPlus - today plugin that allows free positioning of elements,
MortScript - script language for pda.
spacer and spacer2 (attached) - two copies of today plugin what allows to make spacers between another plugins.
So what i've done:
1. Install this all;
2. Make a screenshot of manilla to set it to background of secondToday.
3. Run SecondToday and set spacer as a first plugin. The only way to configure spacers on SecondToday i found is edit the registry. So go to HKCU//software/pocketMax/Spacer and set height of it to 40 (maybe you like another height above your first plugin)
4. Connect in SecondToday below spacer plugins you need to be shown. Set spacer2 below them. Do nothing in tegistry for a while.
5. The most interesting. After the spacer2 set HomeScreenPlusPlus. Pot into its directory two setting sets from archive. The first one is to make setup easier, the second is working one. Open properties of HomeScreenPlusPlus -> advanced and select where sttoday_temp xml.
6. After that you need to change height of spacer2 to put tapzones on the backgoung images like it on the screen. This parameter is in HKCU//software/pocketMax/Spacer2. Don't forget to shut up second today after every try to see changes))
7. Put 5 scripts from archive into /Program Files/MortScript/scripts (or somewhere you want, but change paths in HomeScreenPlusPlus XMLs).
8. Try it. Of corse, sliding won't work, but tapping to zones will open vidget painted on background)))
9. Change sttoday_temp to sttoday it settings of HomeScreenPlusPlus.
10. Put a shortcut of SecondToday to programs widget of manilla.
11. Voila! You got something like below (Remember that you can't slide in this window)
I know it's not the best solution, but i don't want to change functionality to beauty)) This variant is a compromise i think)) In archive you can find S2U2 skin, MortScript scripts, HomeScreen++ themes and two spacers. Good luck in installation=))

I don't know if you heard about it but you can assign any aplication to "swipes" left, right, up, down etc. So I was saying that I assigned secondtoday to right swipe it's much more convenient because I don't have to access "Programs" tab to activate secondtoday. I just need to swipe somwhere on the screen from left to right to activate it. In other words you can open it from main screen of Manilla or from contacts screen etc. Try it out

since I'm about to develop WM application, I wanted to get into WM restrictions for C#.
So there the app is - it lets you setup Magnifier (setting timeouts, enabling "features", ..) plus adding/deleting apps in which will be Magnifier disabled.
It was built for QVGA on WM6.5 build 23034 CSY, but it should run on all resolutions.
It needs .NET compact framework!

Just copy it to your device (anywhere) and run the .exe.
It is early beta version, it will probably fail to set some parameters properly (converting from bool to dword is the biggest problem), so when you find something, tell me. Thanks.
Also, some settings (I've done it from registry, I hope I got all options named correctly) might not work as expected, but that must fix MS in WM itself (like Ellipse option).

Elipse - currently buggy when enabled, not sure what it is supposed to do
Show crosshair - shows (or does not) crosshair when opened
Use High Fidelity - when you open magnifier and then try to move it to somewhere else, it still shows the original position, you must wait till it closes to show different place
Resize For High Fidelity -
Crosshair Length - Length of Crosshair
Crosshair Thickness - Thickness of Crosshair
Doubletap Distance - Max distance between taps to open magnifier
Doubletap Time - Maximum time it will wait for "doubletap" to open magnifier
Deactivate Delay - time before it starts disappearing
Fade Duration - Time how long it will take to disappear completely

The free ones are still waiting to investigate.
If you think that one of these is incorrect, post me that and I'll fix it.

I guess that some settings might not work (like staying (un)checked) so just tell me (I always write Elipse instead of Ellipse and always search for this mistake half an hour ).

Well.This is great however I have a major issue. No SIP so I can't type anything in. I'm trying this on my Omnia which is 240X400 and the bottom bar is completly covered and I don't have a hard keyboard.

I'm creating new WM theme for myself, you can get them on internet, resize them to 16x16px (PNG) and then name them as <themename>_bubble_flag.png and _bubble_ok.png and _bubble_foo.png if I remember right (I'm not at home at this moment, sorry).

there is no magnifier glass on wm6, so no.
Anyways, this app is outdated, I think they changed it in last builds.

Magnifier doesn't work on 5.2.21892

I need to use a 240*320 blocked resolution application on my TP2.
I have wm 6.5 build 5.2.21892 and i tried to use the Magnifier_beta but the exe doesn't work and an error appear: this exe file seems not been for your S.O.
There is something i can do?
