Hey guys,
Can anyone tell me where the cheapest place to have a ribbon cable replacement is?
My 8525 is out of warranty, and I cant afford too much to buy another phone, it's getting quite rediculous.
Thanks
well not sure how much it will cost you to replace the ribbon but I have seen 8125 and 8525 very cheap. now depending on what your budget is might be worth spending the extra $$ or upgrade your current phone so you can get warrant.
I dont have any extra 8525 but I do have 2 8125.

Why do you think it's out of warranty? 8525's were released last Novermber (less than a year ago). So, as long as it hasn't been physically tampered with or damaged, you can just call up AT&T and have it replaced. That is, as long as you're an AT&T customer.
Repair / where?
Thats the thing.
I bought the phone on eBay, it was only two weeks old, when I bought it.
I had it unlocked to work with Centennial Wireless, and ATT / Cingular said they cant do anything about it.
It is too late for me to get a SquareTrade warranty to have it replaced.
Too bad no-one around here had a broken one to sell cheap for parts.
Ahh gotcha. Have you tried reseating the ribbon cable yourself?
I could be wrong, but can't you contact HTC since the phone is less than a year old...? It can still be replaced under the manufacturer's warranty...
8525
I tried reseating the cable myself, but it needs a new one.
Parts are too expensive for these phones.
I think I need a new ribbon cable. For about a week my screen would turn off when I slid it open. Then about two days ago when i closed it it would flicker and if i wigled the front of it it would stay on. Now sometimes it turns on and sometimes it doesn't. I tried to kinda peek in between the two parts and it looks like the ribbon has a crack in it about half of the cables thickness. I called the htc service and repair number for tmobile phones and the guy on the line said that the average price to repair that would be about 70 bucks. Should I try to find the cable and replace it myself (I dont have alot of skills opening phones although I did change the LCD in my nokia 5300) or should I just send it in? Any other choices recomended? Final question, does anybody know where i could get that ribbon cable? Any help is appreciated. I hope I explained my situation well enough. Thanks again!

well i would call tmobile and have them send u another phone they would be able to replace it i just had mine replaced for like 20 bucks
I probably should have mentioned the phone was purchased used off of craig's list so I dont think i can get any warranty out of tmobile...
i would call anyways it cant hurt to find out if anything ***** for like 30-45 mins and say u cancel ur contract and they will send u another one immeadtly lol
I dont think they'll give in. They didnt even wanna sell me insurance for it! I'll try later just for the fun of it...
I called. They said there is nothing they can do. Oh well. Guess I might have to go through the htc repair... I hope its not too pricey
you miight have to pay like 50-75 dollars
Yea I have similar problems... I would buy it a SquareTrade but in order to do that you have to have bought it off ebay... So I would have a friend "sell" it to you via ebay (at the desired insurance price). Then buy a ST plan on it that covers accidental damage and your phone will be under full warranty... Do your reading thou.
So yea, I dropped my phone the other daymad and cracked the screen(). Now the phone still works fine, registers touch perfectly, no distortion of colors or anything. Leading me to believe that its just the outer glass part that needs replacing.
Anyone know how much that would be? Should i even bother, or just try selling it? Appreciate any and all help.
Check ebay for replacement parts. I've seen screens on there b4.
This would be what you are looking for if the digitizer can easily be removed from your cracked screen.
http://www.cellulardr.com/G1FaceplateBlk.htm
Not sure what prices are like on ebay, might be able to find cheaper elsewhere. Does give you a starting point though.
taking apart the g1 is a beeeech, so be careful with that
yeah, I second that. I have taken apart a few and the one that I was the most careful with I fubared a ribbon cable.
But yes, the digitizer is all you should need. My digitizer broke in three places but still worked great, no bleeding (cause it wasnt the lcd) and exactly what you are describing. USE THE MANUAL!
THanks for the help, and all the quick replies. Ill look into taking it apart and if it worth it. If not ill just try selling it off to someone who is more capable.
Sell on ebay, buy on craigslist
I had a water damaged G1 which I just sold on eBay for $130, then bought a fully functional G1 on Craigslist for $175. So basically I replaced my phone for $45. The phone wouldn't even turn on, but people out there are buying for parts. A good deal considering a digitizer will run you at least $65.
Well I decided that i'm not gonna bother with it. Way too much trouble, so if anyone wants to buy it send me a PM. Thanks again guys.
Hello everyone, I'm in need of guidance as to how to repair the charge slot in the T-Mobile MDA phone. I have no idea what has gone on, but the charge slot (bottom of the phone, slot for phone charger connector to charge) has came loose, to the point I can rotate it if I use a small clip. I cannot manage to properly connect the phone to the charger now, and it seems close to sliding out. Help?
Edit: The "slot" is a mini usb port slot.
Hi, Infinty M. My similar unit seems to be dead too but let me try to help you with your problem.
I have no experience yet in repairing a MDA but the mini USB port of a friend's Xda mini I did get to repair before. His problem was very much like yours - the soldering got loose already after serious usage. What I did was to replace instead the said problem with a new one as the old one already had some rust outside.
Thanks, I contacted a repair shop on the issue, and received a price estimate of 55-65 dollars to repair. Is this a price fair enough?

Somewhat steep for a 10 minute solder job on a four year old phone.....if you went to a local high school around your area of residence you might be able to have one of the technical/electrical teachers fix it....or maybe a technical college.....just an idea...
Hi Community,
I tried as hard as I could but at this point I've basically given up.
The Problem:
Phone USB-C Port was damaged while charging overnight (Bad LeEco Cable). Over months with a few shipments from aliexpress I tried to repair it, damaged the screen during the process etc etc...
I changed the USB-Board as well as the damaged battery, sadly it's still broken. If I plug it in nothing happens, no detection or anything, charging works though! I unpluged the data line on the flex cable and the behaviour is absolutely the same. This leads me to the conclusion that the power line is ok but the data flex cable or something on the motherboard is "fu**ed". I also tried an EDL Cable as well as an USB Stick. The USB Stick gets powered but not detected by TWRP which is luckily still installed.
Is there any way to safe this phone or into the trash it goes? Thanks in advance to the community, I've been an avid reader for the past couple years and the solutions always suprise me
tl;dr Charging works, data not so much, any way to get something on this phone?
BTW: I don't want to buy a Jtag Box or something else that is 1 time use and 20$+
Thanks so much in advance!
Hi
Never give up, always there are solutions just you need to find it!
And yeah, you're right the cheap quality original leeco cable made this big problem as You say.
We already talked about this problem, because my phone's port was burned as well, but I could repair it, with an original USB flex board.. So now my phone stayed alive and he is just like the original one
I think won't be good the cheap fake Usb boards from aliexpress.. etc.
You need only the factory version!
Please check these topics, I have written there the solutions!

Thank you very much! I hope there really is a difference between the boards you can get from aliexpress and the one you get from taobao. Gonna order tomorrow and then wait :highfive::good:
Would be pure bliss if I can get this phone to work again.
Edit: Could you post the Taobao Link? You listed what to do, but not which products to buy, would reduce the risk to buy bad stuff again, thanks in advance

Your issue could be the motherboard.
Absolutely those factory cables are garbage, we had two Leeco destroyed by bad cables in my house. Fortunately, they were under Amazon's warranty and they were replaced with new phones.
Currently I also have a critical issue also, where my phone will start in fastboot, but will shut down when attempting to boot to the system or recovery.
To make matters worse, I could only find used motherboards priced on the average of $150 which is way too high when you can find a complete X720 on Aliexpress for about the same price :
As far as getting your data, can you boot to fastboot, if so you may be able to copy the data from the phone and then erase storage using adb. For example, adb pull <path-of-the-file> or : adb pull sdcard/ ( this should work)
As far as the issue about you phone, something that you flashed may have damaged the board. Last week several people had damage as the result of flashing a Rom that didn't have thermals ( it was an accident / Oversight)
Another option, if you are like me and cash is tight. Xiaomi has several quality phones for around $200 and the specs are excellent. Phones such as the A2, Note 6 Pro, or check this out ( Then google Snapdragon 636 vs 821 )
I hope something here helps you.

Hi
Sorry for the late answer, but I was very busy in this week!
.
So You can buy the original board from Taobao but only through Yoybuy. You can buy lots of factory parts for the phone or any other gadgets as well of course. Just you have to use the taobao's item link.
Here you can find what I I bought. This is 100% original board!
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=563268285618
It was only 14$+ 7$ was the yoybuy service fee. The shipping cost depends of the shipping version.
The whole shipping after my payment was about 2 weeks to hungary!
Good luck!

Hi
Yes of course it is quite simple, just you have to write it on TAOBAO 'X720 mother board' to the search bar.
I found a seller, he is selling more version of boards.. Just use this link at the Yoybuy and you can choose the right version at that site.. https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.1.2f6347c1TLsAv7&id=572435958176&ns=1&abbucket=20#detail

While what this website is selling is hard to determine for an English speaker. What they are selling is board repair at a super low price. Frankly, I don't understand how they make money.
But here is an option for you. I too have an old phone with a fried board, so I will research this place further and probably will mail my board to them for repair.
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?sp...GLVYx&scm=1007.13066.127260.0&id=559560190173
By the way, you have to create a account to view pricing and there is an option to change the site to whatever language you prefer. Basically with the cost of transport included it seems that we can have our motherboards repaired for under $20.

I have no idea, as I am not there with you and I don't know what steps you took to ground yourself prior to changing out the board, if you were sent the wrong board then you should contact TaoBao for a refund. They have a return policy similar to other large online vendors.
Is it possible, that you received the wrong board, or that you shorted out the board by accident? If it didn't look identical to the board that you replaced then it obviously would not be compatible. If the board was in fact a correct working board, your issue could be something else such as the usb card, the connection to the usb port, or shorted flex cables. ( I assume that you tried alternate usb cables?
To be clear the link I provided was intended for on site repair, not the sale of a motherboard for sale. (repairing the board that you already own)
For example, If you have broken solder connections, you would pay a small deposit and ship the the phone to the advertised repair shop, for them to repair, by fully reballing the board.
There have been users that were able to get their phones back in working order for under $40
Finally if you are hearing a buzzing noise then you have a burned capacitor which should be an easy and cheap fix for a shop that has the tools and can repair at the component level.
Edit
The price of these phones have recently dramatically dropped Here you can find a new 4GB/64GB X720 for $140
You can replace the usb board yourself. Hardest part is removing the screen. You need a heat gun for that. And double sided 3m tape to reattach.
The actual board only costs $5.
Amazing that a 400 phone will be rendered useless by a $5 part.
Hey guys it's me again, I didn't know what to do and the phone was just flying around collecting dust. But I found a seller that apparently stocks original USB Boards. The ones you could get so far were missing components that are required for OTG etc.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB...833.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.71874c4dOUgL1P
It's 13$ but well, better than a wrecked phone. Now I can also solder quite well, sad I threw away my original board otherwise I could have transplanted the missing IC circuitry. This wasn't a problem I thought that would happen. "Missing" components on a board never happend to me and "a**hat" move to sell boards without saying that it's only good for charging...
This is the part I bought off eBay.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/192576662284
The only soldering necessary was that it didn't come with the speaker so had to remove it from the old bad board and solder it to the new one.
Phone has been back to functional since. I had to replace battery as well because I think the heat gun damaged it. That was about $17

Is OTG working since the compontens of the product you send are also missing on the photo.
Did you want me to attach an otg adapter to my phone to see if it could access the storage?
Or did you want me to connect my phone to a computer via usb-c cable to see if it could be accessed by the computer?
FYI, here's pictures of the old board from my x727 for reference
View attachment 4786296
Here's my comparison between an old Aliexpress board I ordered and the new one with all the necessary IC components on it. Quite the difference...
How much was the new board? Not knowing really if it would work or not, I just ordered the cheaper 5$ board.
