PIE opens Opera?? - Touch HD General

When I try to open a saved HTML page from my SD card in PIE.
Opera takes over and it opens in Opera in stead of PIE!
I can use PIE for normal browsing if I want, just the saved .htm files it opens in Opera even if I open them in/with PIE!
EVEN when I chance the default browser in the registry. (as explained on several threads in these forum.)
How/Why does it do that?
and more important:
How do I fix that?
I couldn't find anything about this particular problem in the forums.
I want to be able to choose in which I want to view my page..
Plz. Help.

hi
Perhaps you can switch the default app for the desired extension, with resco explorer.
cheers Avalun

Tried that, didn't work...
But even if PIE is not the default app, i should still be able to open it when I typt file://[path]/[filename]. But when I do so in PIE, it still switches to Opera.

multiple instance of Internet Explorer

is it possible to open multiple instance of Internet Explorer (or allow popup window to open) as some music sites play music in popup windows and also refresh their parent page , so when ever the popup page opens it reverts to parent page as it refreshed later.
any solution?

VJSihaya does it, but I think there's an update to MultiIE coming, which is software I highly recommend.

Browser: Load all pages as 'desktop' ?

Is there an easy way to make all pages 'think' that the browser is a desktop? Like if I go to google.com I want it to take me to classic instantly, and any other sites that automatically adjust to mobile sites if it detects a phone.
If you use Dolphin Browser you can set the user agent to desktop and it will load all pages that way.

How does dolphin compare to the stock browser?
Dolphin HD is slow in my opinion, you could also try opera mini 5.1.
I still prefer the stock browser.
here is a trick to always view your favorite websites in desktop view. I don't know how to make every site open as desktop, just your most frequent ones.
Go to a website.. such as www.google.com
it will auto open mobile view...scroll down in the website and click on desktop. once desktop view opens.. set this page as a bookmark... now everytime you access the pg via bookmark, it will go to desktop view.
another option, if you want to set google.com desktop as your homepage.
again click desktop, when desktop google comes up, copy the link, paste this new link as your homepage. and your phone will automatically go into desktop google everytime you open your browser.
you can bookmark many webpages, so just set up your most favoritely frequented sites to be bookmarked as desktop view. simple!
There is a code you can enter into your browser that gives you more settings. One of those is the ability to make your phone appear as a desktop, not a phone.
However, I tried this and my browser crashed and I had to delete all data and cache to get it to work again. This DID work on the Nexus One when flash came out (allowed us to watch hulu.com)
The string is about:debug, then go to web settings. Last option is ua string. Change to desktop. Again though, I DO NOT recommend doing this.

I don't know about everyone esle but i like SKYFIRE browser from the market: allows you to choose between Android, Desktop or Iphone i think as your default loading method. It's very speedy to load in desktop mode. Try that out

Yep, this works well. A few pages still detect the presence of a mobile browser, but 9 out of 10 pages load the desktop versions.
I always experienced Skyfire on other phones as laggy. Does it run as fast as Android stock browser?

Opera Sense favourite thumbnail location?

Does anyone know where the webpage preview thumbnail for your favourite site is stored and can be changed/reset?
The reason I'm asking is that I accidently connected to a portal site for a wifi service to access the internet using Opera. In doing so, it's created a snapshot of the portal page to use as the preview for my favourite and I want to change it!
Thanks

Hi,
\Windows\Thumbnail
Delete the one in question, then tap the favourite on the internet tab to load the page in Opera, let it load, then close Opera, you should have a new thumbnail.
Thanks for the reply. I found the directory and deleted the thumbnail in question. The thumbnail preview disappeared as expected. I then pressed the default 'globe' picture to load the page and let it finish loading, then exited Opera. The thumbnail hasn't 'set' - it's still showing the default globe pic. I've retried it a few times and no dice. Any ideas?

Did you click on the favourite rather than the globe?
I tried all sorts.. click on the globe, or the text under the globe or by selecting the page through favourites. Nothing would give it a new updated image.. it just stayed as the default.
The only thing I did was to remove the favourite from the favourite shortcut, then also removed the favourite from the list of favourites. Then I readded the page and set it as the favourite again. Selected it to load it up fully in Opera and it worked!
Thanks for your help.
I seem to remember someone saying to me on another thread that the only way to add/update the thumbnail images for your favourites on the Opera tab is to load the page in question using IE.
EDIT: That works for me...

Did you mean in the stock android browser, Chrome, another 3rd party browser? You'll probably need to be a bit more specific to get a helpful answer.

Solariis,
Thanks -- so I used to know that the download location was a function of the browser
lets see, best I can tell:
Chrome: /storage/emulated/0/Download (internal card) I have not found a way to change
Opera: Weak choices--none are external card this is why I looked so clueless I had used this for a long time exclusively
Dolphin: nice clean easy choices
Internet (defualt): Choice of Internal or External
Thanks a lot! if its not too obvious can I get a clean choice with Opera and/or Chrome ? I guess I'm like a lot of people I like parts of all of them
and have resolved to pick one and live with it
at any rate you have helped me a lot...

I use Boat browser and this one has the ability to change the default directory, similar to Dolphin. Stock browser allows you to choose internal or external, as you mentioned.
As far as Chrome, I have yet to see any method available for changing the default download directory. I haven't tried Chrome Beta yet but I haven't found any reviews stating that this change was implemented with the Beta release. So, unless there's another way to modify the app's files using root, I doubt there's any way to change this in Chrome.
With Opera Mobile, you'll need to do the following:
1.) Enter "opera:config" in the address bar (without quotes)
2.) Scroll down to User Prefs, press to expand
3.) Scroll down to Download Directory, enter the location you'd like to set it to here.
4.) Scroll to the very bottom and hit Save.

Hey Solariis--I never could get the opera method to work--what was originally in there what something I didn't recognize (...data/data... blah blah blah and what I entered in didn't work. most important though, is that opera has been upgraded to --ver 14-- surprise! Funny thing is I still can't find it.
Thanks again and please let me know if you see anything...

Did you try entering /storage/extSdCard/ in the Download Directory box?

Daily comics

We gave up our newsprint subscription some time ago and went to reading our local rag with an app that works fine with our Nook Tablet and Nook HD. But breakfast is not the same without a few comics
So I set out to do something simple to allow us to read our favorites without a lot of scanning through lists on websites. The result is a very simple HTML page (sample attached as txt file; change extension to htm or html) with nothing but comic title links. The sites accessed are GoComics and Arcamax. Both work really well in this way with the comic coming up nicely famed in a landscape view, no need to scroll unless it's a large panel like Rubes or a Sunday version. The behavior of both sites is enhanced if you are using AdAway.
The only issue is that Android does not open local HTML files. Ah, but there's an app for that! (attached). I wish I could give credit for it, but I've forgotten where I found it in my searching to solve the problem. Install that and then you can navigate to the local HTML file, select it and be asked how to open it (might as well check the box for "always"). Once the file is open in your browser you can bookmark it or add it to speed dial. And there you are, daily comics at your fingertips (literally).
And the NST? Well, we're going on a trip and I don't want to take my NT with me but did want something to read so I decided to try this today on the NST. To my surprise it works like a charm! I use RotationLocker and Tasker to force my Opera Mobile to stay in landscape mode.
The other major on-line comics site (comicskingdom) does not work as well. The panel comes up only partially in view, etc. So if you have to have something only they carry, you have to deal with it. Sometimes you can find an on-line newspaper that has a comics section and gets it from comicskingdom but displays it in a friendlier fashion
The HTML file is really easy to edit, even if you know essentially nothing about HTML. Just open in a simple text editor and change titles and urls and you're good to go. It's set up now in a simple two-column format which you can expand by example.
How does one go about downloading the .txt file? Clicking on it just takes me to this page, and ES Downloader doesn't know how to handle it.
Um.....on my laptop clicking on the file link displays the text file contents in the browser. Let's try a zipfile?
