HELP!! PHONE WON'T TURN ON

So I upgraded to the latest mr clean rom and did some tweaks with the registry wizard. I was playing around with it for a while and turned it off to charge overnight. I wake up and try and turn it on and nothing. I've tried soft reset, and hard reset and it doesn't turn on or do anything. When I plug in my charger the light on my phone doesn't even come on. PLEASE HELP. WHAT CAN I DO!!!.

This exact same thing happened to me last week. I played with it everday hoping it would turn back on, but nothing worked. Out of nowhere, it powered back up after 7 days of being non-responsive.
So I would just suggest waiting it out and making sure it is fully charged. Sorry I don't have any better solutions, but this is what worked for me.

leave it charging (even if there is no light) for a couple of hourse. then hold the power button for 3 secs. It will work...ciao,V.

Charge it with the charger, not usb, mine did this and I thought it was dead but it's probably just a dead battery. For some reason it can self discharge to the point where the USB charger can't recharge it.

I've done that, had it charging for over 24 hrs now on the home charger. I guess the next step would be a new battery? Do T-mobile stores carry them? TIA

YOU HAVE TO USE THE ORIGINAL 1A CHARGER!!!!! 800mA will not do the job!!!

that's what i've done i think...the home charger... it doesn't say how many A though.

I fixed it , What I did was zap the battery with a 9v battery in 3 sec intervals, I did this about 5 times, then I pluged my phone into the charger and turned it on, the 9v gave it enough juice to boot up and the usb took over from there. So to everyone out there who is having this same problem, try this but don't over zap, check your battery with a multimeter.

my wizard wont turn on this morning. I just tested my battery and it's at 3.1 volts (not 3.7 as stated on the label)

Yeah I've had this issue before and I have it again. Last time it self-started after about an hour just sitting on the desk. This time it's taking longer, and is still out. I'm charging it as we speak - no light but I'm hopeful.
So this is a battery fault then? I guess that's a slight relief - I've already sent one in for repair and I can't do it again, as I'm on the far side of the channel..

ive never been backwards in trying these things out so i gave it a go. Slightly different method (a little safer).
Found an old 5v 2A charger lying around bared off the wires and used my meter to identify the positive and ground cores.
tested the battery again.. 3.1volts
applied the wires of the charger to the terminals for 5 secs
tested battery.. 3.25 volts
re applied wires for 5 secs
tested battery.. 3.45 volts
re applied wires for 5 secs
tested battery.. 3.52 volts
put in the wizard.. boot screen.
I think i have a seperate problem as i now have a red flashing light and then it locks up around 20 secs later but im a little further on at least !

all sorted here. I hadnt quite enough juice in the battery. Re applied the charger until the battery measured 3.62V Booted ok to the point then that the usb charger took over.

You saying that giving it brief jolts helps restore the battery? Given the time you applied it for, I can't really think it's being recharged by this action...

its a very temporary thing like a 'kick' and the extra voltage isnt sustained very long. It worked. thats all that matters

Yeah. But I'm reluctant to pump power into an electrical device without knowing why. In my case, the battery is giving a steady 4.2V output, which should be enough, no? In fact, the battery seems to be healthy in every way possible, and a few minutes before it died was reporting a ~80% charge...

4.2V is over voltage but yea that should be enough. sounds like you may have a more serious problem

Yeah, so do I. Battery was unaffected by a kick, output is still at the rated 4.2V, well above the needed 3.7V.
So, what would make an apparently healthy phone sporadically fail? It wasn't dropped or exposed to anything. I had it, on, on my desk. The screen turned off after 30 seconds, as usual, and then wouldn't turn back on. Soft and hard resets both fail to invoke any response whatsoever. No charging light.
The only thing that's different is that I did an ActiveSync for the first time in weeks, on a new computer, a few hours before it died. For which I'm extremely thankful, as I'd got a lot of data building up without a backup until then. But I'm doubtful that the sync has anything to do with the failure.
These symptoms occured before, a month or so ago, but the phone revived on its own after an hour or so. This one has been out two days now, which worries me.

THANK YOU!! I just bought this 8125 and thought I broke it in only 2 days. The 9 volt battery did the trick.
Now I can get on with trying to use it.

I have had the same problem last week and I used a 9V battery briefly onto the + and - of the phone-battery.
this just gave the phone-battery enough juice to start up and I was able to normally charge the phone again.

What you guys are doing is reviving a deeply discharged battery.
I frequently do that to normal AA 1.2v NiCd or NiMH Rechargeble battery that have not been used for a long time. When they measure about 0.2v you just jolt a 10v current through it for 1-3 seconds and then carry on charging as normal. If it does not come right, throw it away or use it as a paperweight
Problem comes in with the type of battery you do it with. I had a Lithium - Ion battery explode in my hands once.. (Thank god I wear glasses) I only had a few cuts on my hands and my shirt was ruined so I came off very lucky.
With lithium-Ion batteries one should be very carefull when attemting to boost it when deeply discharged... They dont like it very much.

My X1 doesn't turn on anymore! I just woke up and it was off. I left it recharging during the night... Now when I plug it in all I see is a red light on the power on/off button. Any ideas?
Could it be just the battery?
The problem is i got it from someone in England so i'm not sure about warranty.

take off the battery cover and then take out ur stylus and you will see a little hole next to the battery and then take ur stylus and push he little button in tha hole and then that will restart it.

the red light appears only when the phone is supposedly charging

Then leave it charging for hours and don't touch it until the red light goes away. Then you can switch it on again.
Don't let a Lithium-battery run out of power! It drastically reduces the battery lifetime and it's not easy for the controller to charge it again.
Recharge the battery before it runs out, best at >40%

Hmm... think I encountered that red light problem before, though can't really remember how I solved it. Think encountered it when I was charging using another cable (and not the original one) and later was ok after using the original cable + charger.

When the battery decreases that fast (50% over night) than maybe the battery is broken. If charging over a few hours does not help, you should try another battery.

I left it charging (it was at around 60% when i plugged it)
Still doesn't work.. the red light goes off after a bit and if i try to turn it on (while plugged) a red light by the USB port flashes 3 times.
It has the same behaviour as if the battery wasn't on.
I tried reading the voltage and it's at 3.3v which is 0.3v below normal but that's because it's not fully charged, right?
I'm afraid of throwing away another €35 for a new battery and it still doesn't work :\

Are you charging with a computer?
Try the real charger. You can always try a battery from another one who has the same phone or go to a shop where they sell it and kindly ask for a battery to try.
Should be no problem.

edit: Oh yeah... something wrong happened during the charge because now it shows just around 20% battery left! hmm... what could drain battery this fast while the phone is sleeping (and plugged in to the pc)?

It seems your USB-PC port does not give currency to the phone. It's the other way around -the Computer sucks the power out of the battery.
You can look in the Hardware Manager (PC) how which currency the USB port provides -it should be around 500mA when the phone is plugged is.
I would suggest using the wall charger to be sure the phone is charging.

It's weird. I've been using the same port every night since I got the X1 and it always charged it perfectly. They all provide the 500mA.

Charging

Hi all,
My TD1 would charge from any mini-usb charger (such as the one I have with my TomTom). I put the TD2 on charge from one of these last night. The front light went orange, and the battery status changed to charging. However, I wake up this morning (7 hours later) and the light is still orange. I disconnect and look at the battery info and it says the last charge was yesterday.
Is the TD2 fussy about which charger you use? I really hope HTC are not pulling an Apple and locking their devices to only their accessories!

I think I remember reading something about an option for not charging the battery when connected on PC USB (presumably for saving laptop batteries ;-) ) in the manual.
So I guess that the TD2 has a way to detect if it is plugged into a charger or a laptop, and maybe it can do that only with HTC charger, believing your charger is in fact a laptop. I would have guessed they use the activesync status to differentiate between PC and charger, but maybe not ;-)
So what could maybe solve your problem is to select "charging battery if plugged to a computer", I think it is in the touchflow 3D options somewhere... I would play with those options to check if it improve things...

Settings - All Settings - Batter - (Battery Tab). "When device is turned on, do not chagre the battery when connected to the PC.".
For me this is unticked - and when it was plugged in the battery reported as 'charging'.

Does it work with the standard HTC charger?
And plugging to a PC?
If yes, your other charger may be a little light in specs (amperage too small, or voltage slightly below USB specs) and the TD2 may be picky regarding this...
I would also inspect the microusb plug of the charger to check for dirt/corrosion/deformation, and also the battery within the device: I already had intermittent problems like that caused by imperfect connections: the device was in a charging state, but no actual charging did occur. Replugging carefully after blowing on the plugs solved the problem....

From past experiences, all my HTC phones charges up with any USB cables or chargers, even my HD. So may your battery is not working some how... best thing to do is try charging it with your original charger or connect your device to your computer, it should charge up. If not, then take it back to your dealer man! I don't want to say it but maybe you have a lemon...

It charges well from the supplied wall charger. It also appears to be charging well from the computer. So, this leaves me to suspect the other (non HTC) charger.

OK - this just getds weirder and weirder...
Yesterday, plugged into PC all day whilst I was working. After a while green light so fully charged. Went out for an hour or two and when I came back I put it on a different wall charger for a test (my old TD1 one) and after 30 mins or so green light - so fully charged again.
So, I thought - this is great, it proves the other wall charger has a problem. Before bed a few hours later I took the TD1 charger and put it in the bedroom. Plugged the TD2 into it overnight. Woke up this morning, and orange light???!!!
Put it into the computer this morning and after 15 mins - green light???
CONFUSED!!!
Could it be some function whereby it won't charge a bettery that has been charged full in the past x hours or so??? Is anyone else seeing anything like this????

I think you have might have a duffed battery. I think you should really check it out.

I use a Motorola universal mini-usb charger i mine car and I haven't noticed any different behavior than using the supplied HTC charger or HTC usb cable in my laptop..

I put it on the supplied charger for 12 hours and it did not charge at all despite the orange light being on. As I am within 7 days I've asked DeviceWire to refund or replace...

First of all, yes you are.. IF the device is faulty!
from experience, I know that some cables dont charge the device.. First of all make sure there isnt some dust or stuff in the connection. secondly, try resetting the device.. If the orange light is on, then it only means some of the pins in the EXTusb connection have been shorted, my reccomendation, check the pins on the miniUSB connector on the phone, and make sure you didn't bend some.

I especially used my USB-Charger this night to charge the device.
It is a Hama USB Charger (Prod# 00014095, you can find it with this on google).
It has an output of 800 mA, while the original hast 1000 mA.
But it charged up to 100% and was "green" this morning.
So it seems to work and is really Small in size

Well, this has been a problem for me from the start and all I have used are HTC chargers. I've not had anything like this sort of issue with the previous HTC phones I've owned (and there have been a few - check sig). What confused me was that it does appear to accept charge from the USB port of a computer - which is just odd??!?!??
Anyway, I think this is unacceptable from a new product so I've asked for a refund/replacement. Awaiting a reply from Devicewire.

Whats weird,
My TyTn has some probs in this department.
From time to time, setting it on USB power, will not even lit the charge-light.
And it will not charge.
I have to reset it and then it works.
Dont know what that is.

DeviceWire sent me an RMA. In the meantime I hard reset the device again after confirming that the wall charger would not go above 89% charge - 9 out of 10 bars (I installed a prog to give me a % reading).
After hard reset the battery went from 89% to 100%. I am now running it down again - before I give it one last chance overnight. If I wake up tomorrow and it is still orange and at 9 of 10 bars then off it goes...

This just gets stranger - after *this* hard reset it now appears to be working as expected - woke up this morning to a green light for the first time!!
So, was this just a software thing - solved by a couple of hard resets - or might there still be a problem lurking underneath???
Problem now is that if I send it back to DW they'll confirm it is working as expected. If I wait and do not send it I run out of the 'return within 7 days for a refund' and will have to reply on HTC aftercare (horror!!).
What to do!!!???

I'd still return it but in your RMA notice stipulate that you suspect the problem "seems" fixed but say it might come back again and on that note are still returning it for a replacement/refund.

Phone does not charge!

I have tried my PC and the mains charger, the LED cycles from orange > off > green > off constantly, the phone shows it is charging but the battery keeps decreasing.
Only 30% left to try and find a fix for this, hard reset doesnt help!
Any ideas?

I had the same problem with my HD ages ago (before HD2) I reflashed the rom and that fixed the problem. The other cause with a HD2 can be a non genuine USB-micro cable I used a Nokia and although the yellow light came on it never charged. I found out that the wire configuration in the nokia cable is diffrent to the HD2.

At the moment I just switch to the spare battery that is in the charger.
I am currently searching to see if anyone else has had similar issues.
Of course I have loaded an official rom , just in case anyone suggests it but will not do mtty till I find evidence it helps.

Strange, the only thing I could think of is the option in the battery screen to prevent the phone recharging when plugged into a PC - I have this ticked myself as it's not good for your battery to keep putting it on and off charge. However, it should still charge when plugged into the mains.

An update:
the non genuine battery may be the issue
I checked its capacity with htc tools and it seemed fine but needs to be fast charged in the desktop holder.
Anyway thats my theory so far.

Thanks, I thought of this but sadly not so simple.

The problem was that the middle pin of the battery connector was slightly bent and just needed pushing back into place. I suggest you all try it as a search of the forum showed me its a common issue.

it only happens for non-genuine battery. just leave it charging over night. or get separate desktop charger for the non-genuine battery.

Similar but different problem...
Battery is genuine as is the USB lead and charger.
Phone is flashed to 1.66 factory Rom , unlocked via unlock code
Had phone for 3 weeks and no real problems , only ever charged on the comp/car via usb. On monday morning the battery was at about 8% so i dug out the mains charger for the first time to give it a fast charge by the time i was ready to go to work the battery was at 30%. On the 2 hr drive i left the phone on charge in the car.
On arrival i checked the phone for messages and it was frozen , i took the battery out and replaced it and the phone fired up with 8% charge.
When i picked the phone up after 2 hrs on charge in the car the bottom (between battery and usb slot was VERY warm.
in the office i put the phone on charge on the mains and no light came on , but the phone seemed to stay at 8% and the back below the battry got warm very quickly.
eventualy after lots of messing about the battery is dead , charging does nothing except mae it very warm.
went into the local t-mobile to get a new battery , they didn't have one but the girl in the shop had a hd2 so we tried her battery in my phone, phone fired up , but still woldn't charge.
Last desperate move i reset the phone to factory settings , still no charge.
Only 2 things happened to the phone prior to the charging issue
a) I activated Microsft Myphone
b) I put in a 16gb mem card
Anyone have any ideas what to try next ?

Brand new Atrix won't charge. Green LED.

I installed/flashed Gingerblur yesterday and it was working fine for the whole day. At night, I put it back into it's case because I'm still waiting for my New Screen Protector and Case to come. I take really good care of it. Then I did not use the phone for the whole day. After having a really bad day, I started up my brand new Atrix for some fun and it was already at around 5% battery left so I went ahead and tried to charge it. I noticed plugging it into the computer did not work, so I tried wall charging it and that also did not work.
To sum it up,
Symptoms:
-Green Led for 2-3 seconds when I hold down the top main button then shuts off led. Note: Only happens/works if the phone is plugged into the wall.
-Green Led for 4 or more seconds if I plug in wall charger then shuts off led.
-No visual image on screen after battery drained out at all.
What can I do? I don't think I bricked it since it was working perfectly yesterday. Is there anything I can do? I have tried removing battery with no avail, it is plugged in to the wall charger still for the past hour.

This is a very weird problem and I don't know the exact answer..I just know i bricked my atrix before (failed to flash on a full battery) and couldn't charge the dead battery even on AC.
I ended up buying a universal battery charger from radioshack and then returning it once I got my battery fully charged and flashed the rom. Haven't had any battery problems since.

I did not fail a flash, unless the flash can fail even if Gingerblur was working 100% before it failed. I don't know if thats possible.

Are you using the usb cable/charger that came with the phone?
I know it sounds ridiculous but the phone does NOT charge on any of my existing MicroUSB cables or wall chargers (used to have a nexus one). Pretty bummed about that :/

Yeah I am using the one that came with it.
I also want to update that I've tried my sister's HTC Inspire charger and an old Samsung charger I have left around.
Both are USB to wall Adapters (I am not using the same wall power adapter for each charger) so I wonder if I need the one that plugs directly into the wall?

Yeah, you probably just have a dysfunctional battery or charger, either way, you're going to have to diagnose which one is the problem (fingers crossed that it isn't the phone)

I think your phone is the problem, it's not processing how to charge the battery from the cable.

Common problem. You need at least 850mA to charge the phone, so older usb ports wont work. The wall charger is actually working. Pull the battery out, put it back in, plug in the wall charger(don't press any buttons!) and let it sit for about 30min to get a decent charge. Should boot up after that.

Hm, it's been charging for over an hour now and still hasn't turned on. But I did not do it exactly as you said. I unplugged the battery acouple times but I always try to hold the "fingerprint" on button right after plugging it in. I'll try not pressing anything this time. Thanks, I'll post back if I get any results.

The phone should turn on if charging, you don't need 850mA either. Standard USB is 500 and it just charges slower. I know this for a fact as I just charged it like that.
Take it into a store or contact where you bought it from.
Plugging in phone while off: Green LED for a bit, moto logo, battery icon
Power on, no charger : green light for a bit longer, moto logo, boot animation.
Try an at&t stores charger and see if theyll let you charge the battery.

With a dead battery you need 850 mAH. The phone needs 850 mA ti boot and it needs to boot to charge (strange yes but software controls the charge).
I would suggest trying all the chargers you can (the Moto one may be giving you to little amps) and if that does not work you can try to either 1) make a dev cable (post on how to in the dev section, though it requires soldering and such so you may not be able to do it if you don't have supplies) or 2) get a charger for the battery (one to directly charge the battery vice through the phone).

The battery method did not work, I did not try to hold the main button until 1 hour later to no avail. I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow for a replacement.

Edit: Oops..Too late to the party! I had the same issue that was fixed when I used a good quality micro-usb charger!

850ma? You sure?
I've charged and booted my phone from dead on a 700ma charger and 500ma usb on numerous occasions.

U need not worry .. put it in a wall charger .. and let it sit dere for atleast an hour .. the green led will come up when charge level reaches around 50% or more .. be patient ..

I had the exact same issue the other day. I forgot to put my phone on charge at night, and it was dead in the morning. I plugged into the wall with my Moto charger, the phone turned on and went right to CWM. I rebooted from there, the phone showed 5% battery level, and within 10-15 minutes was at 20%.
I thought it strange my phone went right to the old Tenfar CWM even though I uninstalled it after unlocking my phone and installing the latest CWM from Tenfar.
It does seem that the shut off with the battery is 5%. I am assuming this is the safety factor built into either the Android OS, or the batteries themselves, as they do have circuits in them much like mini computers to shut them off before 100% discharge, as this will kill a Lithium Ion battery.
Some simple facts regarding the Lithium Ion batteries:
•They start degrading as soon as they leave the factory. They will only last two or three years from the date of manufacture whether you use them or not.
•They are extremely sensitive to high temperatures. Heat causes lithium-ion battery packs to degrade much faster than they normally would.
•If you completely discharge a lithium-ion battery, it is ruined.
•A lithium-ion battery pack must have an on-board computer to manage the battery. This makes them even more expensive than they already are.
•There is a small chance that, if a lithium-ion battery pack fails, it will burst into flame.
What I would like to know is why some people have problems getting a charge back in the Atrix after a complete discharge. There I was at 20% after 10-15 minutes using the Moto wall charger, while other people can't even get their phones to turn on after an hour on the wall charger.

Get a warranty replacement.
The phone won't turn on, so they don't know what you did to it.
Got my new phone today, popped the dead battery in and voila, it charges !
Sometimes it's like people say, it's because of the charge, but your phone probably have issue, just get a replacement

I let it charge all night and it still has the same symptoms. Going to Best Buy in an hour when it opens.
When I get my new phone, should I Gingerblur it again or am I going to face this same issue? Was this software related or hardware?
Gingerblur was relatively easy to do, but I don't want to risk killing my phone a second time.
UPDATE: Got a replacement phone. Complementing whether I want to Gingerblur it again because that's the only thing that could have caused the battery issue other than it being hardware related.

You can try it again should work fine for you. If not...
You can always use their phone and your "dead battery" and visa versa theirs into your phone. Then if same issue happens. Just warranty the phone. If your in warranty do it. I've had g1's for no reason not charge. Led says it, os says it, yet NONE of my working batteries were getting any charge off the phone. Especially when the phone was 3 days old. Warranty.... if its free do it.

Yes if warranty then ok .. But we are here to do the impossible.. I just reconditioned a new battery just so it can turn phone on in same instance for a friend. So yes batteries and phones new can have charging issues.
There is an issue with smart-phones and batteries and has been since day one. If you are here then evidently you either love these phones and want to mod them or you are like me and love playing with electronics. Real simple if you in the smart-phone world there are a few rules of thumb..
1.) Never begin working without a fully charged battery (some say 51% or better I say 100% )
2.) Buy , borrow , get an external battery charger and/or stronger wall charger
3.) Extra batteries are always good.
4.) Read the damn stickies and wiki's ... People have taken plenty of time creating them. Those who know me know I have written some myself.
5.) The biggest problem is located between the chair and the keyboard .... (lol)
