Today I have seen a seismographs application in iphone... A needle was continously writing the output coming from the acclerometer like those richter measuring seismographs.
And it was quite sensitive. Even if somebody walk in the room, you can see the changes in the seismographs. I really wanted to be able to write some code for wm but i can't... So maybe one of our you guys can be inspired by this and can write something similiar for this... I really like to play with these g-sensor programs...
I could not grab enough attention for the european users... So I try my chance one more time in the time zone where american users are mostly active...
A seismograph application... I don't think that it's that difficult... the code does even not to suppress the disturbance... Because actually it should be measuring the disturbance continuously...
I've also heard that it is a free app. for iphone... I don't know maybe the code of that program is somewhere available...
Cheers,

I could try making that app but could you post the link for the iphone version plz? out puting the sensors are kite easy for me atm but i don't imagine the relation bethen ms^2 and Mercalli scale. so yes the needle will will shake but i don't know what to put in the tag's

Ikari... You are my favorite coder... After your accelerometer, responding to this has proven it one more time...
Ok so here some youtube links to see how it looks like...

or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK1GNbNZcmE
Basically you don't need to think about the unit conversion or any other... I mean as you see on iphone, it's something ver simple... Not scientific... No units... Just a scale on the "rolling paper"... Let's say the maximum disturbance is the limit of the paper and it's 3 times of gravity... A simliar UI would be really nice... Maybe you can also think of a logarithmic scale (which is the case for richter scale) then you can even show 6 G on the paper... it will not take so much place for the increasing gravity (i don't know what is the maximum output you can measure with the sensor inside)
It would be really nice to see such a thing...
P.S.
You can also find some explanation and screenshots of the program from the following link:
http://translate.google.com/translate?client=tmpg&hl=en&u=http://coneri.se/iphone/&langpair=sv|en
(translated to english)
If you have an apple account, you can also download the iphone version for free!!
that's a cool idea...+1 from me
me too...
+1
it's really a good and funny idea

DOn't make the mistake of making it simple, it will only be a laughing matter for the fanboys at work if you know what I mean. My point is, if you're going to copy, why not improve the idea right?
Btw, great job on the accelerometer Ikari, you're the man!

here is a thought.. i had 4 watch batteries die close togather and decided to get a Seiko Arctrua which has a little kenetic generator in it to keep the battery charged. i wonder if anyone has ever thought of something like this for a cell phone... it certianly gets a lot of movement in my pocket as i walk and would greatly improve battery charge time. maybe as a plun in case or somethign to start with... just a thought..
Nice idea, but the watches in question have a very low power consumption, and I doubt you could get enough to recharge or even run the phone, maybe a couple of minutes extra runtime over a few hours, but nothing massive.
Chris
unless us nuclear charge ...
i think that it could be done because the kinetic generator would be a lot larger than the one used in the watch. i am thinking that the best way to do this, disregard how it would look, would be to make one that replaces the whole back of the phone. I think that it is a good idea I wish there were more people nerdy enough to want this so it could actually be produced.
you would probably still have to charge your phone though.
it would be huge and not that great but a fun toy.
well, wish no more. Someone did it. (pretty sparse on the details, though)

hi all
I'm curious that what can Leo do? After a lot of video of it to show how it's great..where are the strengths and weaknesses of it? Is it a really smart phone?
Thank for your all care!
there are plenty of reviews on the internet, read them.
oh and it is really a smartphone just like almost all listed on this forum

Yes what can it actually do?
HTC has blown us bigtime again.
It can´t do enything you expect it to do, exept looking really nice.
HTC cant expect us to always relly on XDA all the time.
This whole scenario reminds me of "the blackstone affair".
When I bought the blackstone I was convinced, after reading almost everything there were to read about it, it was the best phone ever made.
I was convinced this community would fix every flaw.
Everyboy just assumed the xda devs would fix things.
Ok, XDA have made blackstone better that it was at first, but its not the killerphone
I was expecting it to be.
Now after reading about Leo I get the same fealing.
I mean, were is the native multitouch support. I have read posts were people just assume xda will get that. It still have a GPS-lag. No USB-host, wich everyone seam to just say: XDA will get that. It wont! It is just too hard and to time consuming.
So what can Leo do, except look good?
For 700 euro I had expected a lot more!

I know and it makes med sad.
I have bean in this buying coma and just got woken up,
and realised I cant get everything in one phone, if I chose to buy a
HTC phone...
But how come a phone with killer hardware still havent got more to offer,
when both samsung and toshiba G01 has more things to make use of the
hardware?
So what can it do? What use do I have of Leos hardware?
I think this is a nice thread with a good topic.
then don't buy a Leo, simple huh?
Toshiba TG01 lags, care to explain me why? Yet it has the same processor as the HD2. So what is the use of the hardware there (same question)? Same thing on the samsung. Every phone has a fault or something that won't make everyone happen, that's just how it is.
No manufacturer will ever make a phone with everything in it, it's not just HTC that does this. It shouldn't make you sad either, you would do the same if you ran that company, otherwise would bring them about ruin
dont confuse HTC with windows, and iPhone with its respected OS..
HTC made this phone, made a monster, whether it does everything you want or not, its personal opinion, but HTC did make a phone, not the operating system, which is where we get to Windows Mobile, with that OS it depends on the people who make programs for each phone, but we have a ton of windows mobile devices, where each one should have its software designed for it. Now i agree with u, Windows Mobile didnt give us unlimited app's options, they left a big part of that in the hands of other programmers, which is why we are all here on XDA
The iPhone on the other hand, they made the 3 versions of the phone, with all the app's, and then released it, even tho around 90% of the apps are a joke that u install 1 time, play with it for 5 minutes and uninstall it, its still a huge amount of applications.
So you cant really ask if the HD2 can do what the iPhone does, it just takes time for the developers take that "everything i want" and put it into each program
edit: (and i really had to do this ): Dont ask what the Leo can do for you, ask what you can do for your Leo!

Oh, don't worry, it will be usefull.
Only problem will be could you use all of it's potentials... and find a way to do that...
Gaining post count
Well, seems to me new users badly need postcounts to get a free HSPL when the time comes.
Someone said, ..O dear... (that what spot on)
For the rest, if people really want 1 device that can do it all, buy
the HTC Shift.
This Hybrid OS device does everything from detecting Higgs particles to transdimensional teleportation, GSM calling and Windows 7 / Windows Mobile 6.1 with HDSPA and builtin stereo speakers and then some.
First impressions...
Ok, here some first user experience after half a day:
PRO's:
- The screen is HUGE!
- Flat device
- New TouchFlo + "multitouch" (only zooming), pressuresensitive
- Most applications and functions are fingerfriendly
- Fast(er than Topaz). See my new benchmark thread
- Led flash (not very good, but better than nothing)
- Much program memory 336 Mb
- Flat leather case, simpel but usefull I think
- 3,5 mm connection
- New micro-usb connection (is that a pro?)
CON's:
- The device is huge! To be honest I was a bit shocked when I first saw it. It's very "wide"...
- My first impression is that the screen is good but no better than the (small) Topaz screen
- Storage memory is low, only 183 Mb
- No stylus! At the moment a big issue for me. Not everything is fingerfriendly, so much frustration. Scrolling is hell! CERTAINLY AN ISSUE BECAUSE THE SCREEN DOESN'T RESPOND ON A STYLUS OR OTHER SHARP OBJECT!!! Hope I will get used to this soon.
- Camera sticks out. The camrea sticks out of the back of the device so the device rests on the silver edges of the camera. Not good for the silver, not good for the camera.
All in all it's impressive...!
Report later when I'm a bit more used to it.
(My Topaz screen look sooooo small now.....)
I completly agree with ETHANIAs first post.
There is also one BIG CON:
"Pretty much all videos under 720p played just fine without any dropped frames. The HTC HD2 has similar issues as Acer neoTouch and has even worse performance. While the neoTouch managed to play the 720p videos with 15-17 fps, the HD2 has an output of only 12-13 frames per second. Not that any of those is actually watchable but it gives you an idea. We guess the graphics subsystem of the Acer neoTouch has a few tricks under its sleeve and it's not a matter of pure CPU clock comparison."

and i should pay 700€ for this???

I have TOUCH HD and i am dissapointed with it. Yes you are right, i really dont think to buy it (not yet ). I wish you luck with yours HD 2.
Any link for buying in Holland?
i have made the decision to uninstall FpseCE
i love playing my old PSX games on my HD2, after reading the readme and following its instructions to the letter, it worked first time
the app i have no gripe with, yes it could be better but the developers have lives away from their PC's and cant dedicate all their time to satisfying my gaming fix.
On the HD2 with its MAHOOOSIVE screen, portable gaming has been a wonderful experience... Granturismo2, resi evil 2 and 3, tekken etc etc
*But*
1/ i am getting nothing done.
2/ the house is falling apart.
3/ the car has been sat on the drive for six months purely because it has a flat tyre.
4/ i keep missing my stops on buses and trains.
5/ i've fallen behind at work.
6/ the dog keeps coming to me with its bowl in its mouth like it wants something...id give it more attention if i could just beat this level!
7/ more importantly i'm single again...so will have to take up the chore of finding another female of our species in which to grow my brood.
on the plus side...
1/ i finally got 100% completion in GT2
erm, thats about it really...
so FpseCE is going, i must find something to feed my gaming fix in the mean time (like nicorette patches for smokers)
any ideas?
Wow, I've never finished GT2 on the PSX.. you got me interested!
its not easy! the licenses and endurance events are impossible without an external controller!
at least, they were for me and my clumsy hands lol
id just got back into resi-evil 2 im thinking i should at least finish that before uninstalling...
Hi there, are u using the supporters version? to enable multi-touch on our beloved HD2s? im considering getting the supporters version as well. though i wont be playing anything too time consuming. maybe metal slug or some fighting games. lol. does the multi-touch work well? do the controls work well? i know on the normal version its really hard to activate the buttons n all. lol

if you have an hd2 it is totally worth donating. its not much to ask for the years of hard work put into this emulator and the features you will have with the supporter version are a must have on HD2.
Yep, I love FpseCE. It's awesome, I basically got the HD2 for it. I find the controls ok, but I think I would struggle with fast paced games.
For Gran Truismo 2, the OP is right, getting gold in all the liscenses with the onscreen buttons would be impossible, but they are suitable for most races.
I play a lot of FF7, 8 and 9 as well, and perfect timing for the controls are not a big deal. This is where it comes into it's own.
I picked up the supporter version straight away, 5eur is nothing for what you are getting. I found a few games dont work, Metal Gear Solid is one, which is a pain but I think the developer is working on getting it up. Theme hospital is another that doesn't work that great.
On a side note, the developer seems to favour the HD2s, a lot of his time seems to be specifically developing for our device as it is so awesome and popular.

It's not too bad to do mate. Any help required, the FPSECE forums will help you out. There is a specific section for the HD2 and it's one of the most active sections of the website. The community is pretty helpful in general.
there is a dedicated thread for HD2 on there forum check it out no link cause im on me phone on the bus, but therw is a guy on that yhread he is awesome answers for any question.

Yeah kindof, except it runs an emulator to actually read the data. The developer provides another tool called pocket ISO I think. This compresses the ISO's obtained from PSX disks to a smaller size and actually increases performance. Not sure of the math behind it, maybe stores the data in a way that FpseCE can access it better. Either way, smaller ISO files and more FPS. I am by no means an expert but if you get stuck, you could fire me a quick PM and I'll see what I can do.
Essentially you install the free version, install the supporter version, download the "HD2 pack" available from the forum under the HD2 section of the forum (sorry, no link, the site is banned at my work)
Pop the ISOs on you're memory card, and fire it up. Easy as that really, that's all I had to do.

thanks a lot, seems pretty much how i thought, i'll give it a go later when im home from work.
My Core Question:
WHY do no Android tablets have video INPUTS on them, so they could also be used as portable HD screens?
(or better yet as portable HD, multi-touch screens)
Basic Idea: I want an Android Tablet that can ALSO do what the GeChic on-lap 1002 can do (even if that didn't include touch). The on-lap 1002 is a highly portable 10" 10-point touchscreen that plays video from any HDMI source (or vga with included adapter). It is powered by USB plugged into either a usb-charger style wall adapter or directly into a PC. The best part is that if it is plugged into a PC, it not only draws power there but also sends touch commands to the PC through the USB at the same time. Great for portable gaming or a second screen BUT they are about $250 for the 10" and about $400 for the 15.6" and they have no OS, or stand-alone capabilities at all. I want a tablet that is always useful as a stand-alone, but when the situation calls for it, can also do the on-lap's job! (If on-lap still isn't clear to you then here is a video of it's big brother the 15.6" version).
I realize that adding a feature can increase the price and/or size of a tablet, but MOST of the parts that they both use overlap, so I don't think that the increase in either would be all that big. An HD 10-point capacitive touch screen has to be the biggest part and single cost in both (so making one screen do both functions only makes sense for size and cost) and the same USB components could be used, same body, bezel, buttons, etc. Admittedly, some components would probably have to be modified like the screen control board. That might cost a bit more/be a little bigger as a combo item, but still shouldn't be anywhere near double sized or double cost... so go ahead and add a little bit of cost or a few millimeters of thickness if that's what it takes! I would gladly pay an extra $50-100 (and probably willingly pay a fair bit more) for a tablet to add this feature and that certainly SEEMS attainable.
I have done literally days worth of Googling and have read MANY threads (some in this forum) with people asking IF there are any tablets with an HDMI input. At this point I am 99.999% convinced there are NONE (but I would be VERY HAPPY to be proven wrong). In order to be 100% sure and let my brain rest... I just have to have some idea WHY doesn't it exist? I am hoping that some of the hardware experts and creative-minded modders that frequent this forum can help me understand what I'm missing or better yet help make it happen. THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL!!!
Some Clarification:
1.) I just want to re-enforce that I am asking about INPUTs, not outputs. You wouldn't believe how much confusion there was about the difference in a few of the threads I read on some DSLR sites
2.) HDMI seems like the logical choice, so I may use it in examples, but my question is really about ANY video input regardless of port-type.
3.) I know that video ports only serve as EITHER a video input or output, not both from the same port (Some day a single port that did both would be nice, but for now) couldn't a tab easily have 2 ports, one in and one out or am i missing something simple?
4.) There is one answer I DO NOT BUY. Which is that 'there is not enough demand for anyone to bother adding an input to a tablet'. I have read several threads that have asked if it exists since 2011 for everything from DSLR photographers, gamers, car-PC builders, RaspberryPi fanatics, techs that want a portable workstation to connect to servers etc etc etc. Whole product lines or even companies (like GeChic) are based on portable screens, so I don't accept the premise that there is no demand. Besides, even if there WERE small demand, that would explain why they DON'T ALL have it, not why NONE have it. All I can conclude is that I am missing something and it must be a much bigger hardware challenge than I realize.
That'd be SWEET!

In fact, I might actually buy one of the "on-lap"s you talked about for traveling (thanks for culling me into them!). But it would be awesome if my Nexus could just do it! Or better yet, if they would put some droid guts and a battery in that 10inch on-lap (I have decided too late that I like 10" tabs way more than 7s)
Unfortunately, I don't have the chops to answer your question. In fact, I'm with you that it seems awesome and yet reasonable. But there are some brilliant modsters on here, so I hope you get some help because it's a great idea. Good Luck!

I am thinking about doing an in-dash car install of a table. But I would LOVE it if it doubled as a monitor that I could also use for a more elaborate windows7 car-PC for a possible later project. That is what made me first want it. I think I have some work-around ideas to fit those specific needs... but once I thought about it I couldn't help but think of how versatile it would be and a whole laundry list of potential uses!
