Design Choice for my case - Touch Pro, Fuze Accessories

Please to refer to the new poll I posted on the General forums with 1 new design and color version of design 2 & 3. Go to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479776
thankyou again.

38 views and no one actually able to look at 2 pictures and choose which one they liked more?
for shame!
I had higher hopes for the forums.

I rather like ur first one better.
Even though it's more difficult to make out what initials they are, but i think it looks more intresting.
So i would go for the first one.
But still good work i must admit. I really like both designs even though i'd prefer the first one more.

First one definitely. Second one seems a bit too busy for my liking, unless you're into that.

Design 1 attract more attention at the initial look.
perhaps cos of the black background.
After some thought, Design 2 actually looks better.
Pehaps if you were to change the background color of Design 2.
It will give others better comparison.
just my 2 cents

Sure. I'll recolor design 2 and put in design 3 that I just came up with.
I'll post a new poll later for you guys to take a gander at.

After some back breaking work coloring in the 2nd design. I've posted a new Poll thread so that it will incorporate design 3.
Check it out at:

Epic Screen diff. than Nexus S

I used to have an Epic. I always suspected that screen on the epic was a little diff. than the Nexus S. I hated the Epic and I like the Samsung Nexus S alot more! But yesterday, my coworker has an Epic and downloaded the same wallpaper as I have. Then we compared phones with the same wall paper and brightness. His screen had richer contrast, was brighter without being washed out, and seem to have better detail. I don't understand why this is...but I wanted to throw this out here.
Have you tried any other colour settings?
Take a look here.
I've never seen the nexus s screen. Even though I think the epic screen is beautiful eye candy, it exaggerates how things look in real life. I don't know for a fact but I would guess that color, tint, and saturation have been cranked and tweaked so as to make people ooh and ahh when they look at it. A picture could easily be manipulated to make the colors really stand out. Maybe if you were tripping on LSD, the colors you see might look like the screen on the epic but that's not how things actually look like.
I was wondering a similar question just before I popped into the forum. You being a previous epic owner, what similarities, differences, and other observations are you finding out with the nexus? I'm very interested in your opinions because I used to have an epic and wonder how the experience might be when comparing the two phones.

Hey herb, I remember you from the Epic forums! You're actually 100% correct on why the Epic screen looks different. Prior to our most recent update (2.3.3) our screens would have looked very similar but then Google decided to make things look more natural. Now for a brief tangent: I used to sell TVs at Best Buy and one thing you'll notice about any new LCD TV, and Samsung is a particularly bad offender on this front, is that they are very, very blue. Much like all of the SAMOLEDS. This is because the human eye reads bright blue as even brighter white; it makes people think that one screen is so much more bright and vibrant than another. And its exactly the trick that is causing problems here.
One other thing I did while at Best Buy is do a lot of screen calibration (both selling and actually calibrations). People see the calibrated screen next to the non-calibrated one and you know what they all say? That it looks dull and washed out. Then I pulled out a special trick: You hold a sheet of blank white paper next to a white image on both screens. On the calibrated screen the color of the screen comes very close to the color of the paper. Of course it does, they're both white. But on the non-calibrated screen the "white" looked markedly blue. This is a test I've run on both a 2.3.2 Nexus S screen and a 2.3.3 Nexus S screen. I've done it on both mine and my wife's phones and I can tell you that I found the exact results described above. I'm not trying to be insulting but the truth is that its a tactic to sell more products and that it works. People like things they think look better and they think the non-calibrated screen looks better. Its just that its not. The point of HiDef (or more accurately in this case a beautiful screen) is to make things look more real, not more fake which is what those false colors do. But people want what they want and no matter how many times they're told it should be a certain way it doesn't matter. Its like how people insist on buying hybrids even though the process of making their batteries is immensely destructive to the environment and the fact that a diesel will usually get the same if not better fuel economy with cleaner emissions. Its the image that matters.
As to answer the second part of your question, Herb, I love my Nexus S. I hated the Epic. I hated how it felt like a completely forgotten device from the second it came off the line. I hated that we had to build stock roms off of leaked builds just to get working GPS. The second someone offered, I traded it for an Evo (which I loved immensely, for the record) I even drove 160 miles to make the trade <.<
As a phone, solely the device I mean, it works amazingly. I get around 14-16 hours of use a day and even then I still only get down to 20-30% depending on usage. If I spend the day flashing roms, sure it goes a bit quicker than that but flashing takes a lot of power. A lot of people complain about the call volume but I have to say its not bad. Its a bit quiet but its usable in most settings and if its not, I can pop in my bluetooth earpiece and its fine again. As for speed? I can't explain it but it is lightyears faster than my old Epic. Its amazingly fast. More than blistering.
Now, people around here often like to complain that our development is slow but really its no slower than the epic was and now that its launching in Canada and on Sprint its only going to grow. I know of a few devs that plan to switch from the Epic over here and things will start to really boom. Honestly, I'm tempted by dual core phones, specifically by the rumored HTC Pyramid but I wouldn't give up my Nexus S. Its the first smart phone that I actually, truly, enjoy using. And now my wife is complaining about my "writing a novel" so I'll wrap it up. I love my Nexus S.
One more question/concern.
With the nexus s, if you download the programs livo recorder and virtual recorder, what happens? When you play back after recording audio on the high quality settings, does the audio studder and skip like it did on the epic? The HTC evo and shift are the only two phones I've used that can make flawless recordings and have very sensitive mics. I've had emails with the devs of their respective programs when the epic came out. The epic was very bad with high bitrate audio recording. If I would make a recording of me counting the seconds on the program as it was recording, it would studder, skip, and jump ahead a few seconds constantly. It was kinda like a mix between listening to a scratched CD skipping and watching Max headroom and his glitching while speaking.
If you get the time sometime, publish your results. Also, does the video recorder crash, like the epic, when its on its highest resolution settings? I know it can't do HD but I'm still wondering. Thanks
Hey herb. It doesn't crash on its highest setting and ill give those apps a shot tomorrow and upload them to YouTube

Other than the screen on the Epic, I hated the Epic. I didn't like the keyboard, the side button, or the software. I love the Nexus S...even if the screen is slightly less than the Epic(which probably could be fixed with voodoo color adjustments). However, I think I might sell mine and buy the Sprint Nexus S simply because Sprint does not have a data cap.
I hate Tmobile for tricking me in unlimited data. I think they are ATT.

Galaxy S II I9100 - Just got mine! - mini review

Ok -I just got my Galaxy S II here in the uk from phones4u (wouldn't really recommend them but they had it early. My previous Galaxy S which I had massive GPS problems with over almost every ROM and radio combination is eventually going on eBay.
I thought others here might be interested in the SII
Initial impressions are:
Wow - this thing is blazingly and surprisingly fast. I've seen reviews that say it's fast but when you use it - it simply refuses to slow down anywhere in the UI or apps. The Market for example is crazy fast and installing apps is a breeze.
TouchWiz 4 is really a huge improvement and the small changes here and there along with the speed mentioned abive make it a real pleasure to use. Can't as of yet replace the Messaging app link to GoSMS (my personal choice) - but maybe will be able to when root becomes available.
Now - a little background information: I'm very sensitive to colour and brightness uniformity variations and I have to say that over the past few years have had some issues with monitors, a Samsung TV and an iPhone 4 I sent back for problems I know others simply cannot see or simply don't consider "problems". I do - and for that reason I was astonished and delighted by the Super Amoled screen in my GPS defying Galaxy S. I literally love(d) that screen and it was crisp, sharp, large and beautiful with absolutely no colour shift or backlight issues (there isn't one!).
So when I found out that the Galaxy SII had a Super Amoled+ screen I was dribbling with anticipation.
When I turned on my brand-shiny-new Galaxy SII this afternoon however I noticed something I'd seen while toying with the first few SII's I'd handled in the phones4u shops but thought nothing of - the screen is slightly "muddy" although vibrant and there is a definite variation in either brightness or colour shift across the screen from top to bottom - especially visible (almost only visible) on solid colour backgrounds in apps and also Gmail. In know and will state in anticipation that most others wouldn't notice this. Having had my Galaxy S though which had a screen I consider virtually perfect - I was a bit surprised to find that this new SuperAmoled+ screen had a completely different colour temperature and exhibited what looked like colour shift from top to bottom. I was also very surprised that the screen did NOT look as sharp as the screen on my original Galaxy S because these Samoled+ screens are meant to be "sharper". I wonder what the pixel density is compared to the Samoled screens?
Also, when you tilt the phone, the colour of the screen shifts a lot more than the original Galaxy S. Hmmmm......
Anyway - after having just paid around (I am crazy I know) £500 for this phone I feel a little sick.
I LOVE the speed. I love the interface. I know and love Android. I'm surprised by the screen however.
Just thought I'd give everyone a heads-up and HIGHLY recommend you go and have a look at one first before, say, buying online if you are also sensitive to screen uniformity or if you prefer the more "blue" white balance of the original Samoled screens as opposed to a more "yellow" tint - which this SGSII has.
I'm hoping that maybe it will "warm up" and/or "settle in" but I'm not too sure about that. I've tried turning off "auto brightness" and that definitely makes the screen brighter - as you'd imagine - but doesn't seem to help with my issues described above.
Now - onto something else entirely - GPS:
I've only tested this VERY quickly and indoors but the GPS seems to work better than the oroginal SGS. Will do further testing because I use Google Navigation quite a lot but so far I'm hopeful this is now fully resolved. GPS crappyness was one of the main reasons I upgraded and the main lure of this phone was the Samoled+ screen, so I really don't know what I'm gonna do.
The screen issues are so subjective I'm guessing the shop wouldn't consider it a "fault" and so I'd have a fight on my hands with that one.
I think I'll wait a little to see what happens - I think my eyes would get used to the colour balance being slightly warmer but the slight blurriness of the icons/screen and the slightly lighter bottom half (very slight) will probably stay as they are and are very noticeable to me.
Anyway - hope that was of some interest to someone. Any questions - just ask and I'll do my best to answer.
Nice little roundup, glad you're pleased with it on the whole.
Is there any way you could get an image or two of both handsets side by side, comparing the viewing angles and colour shift for potential buyers?
There have been quite a few tweaks relating to the screen in custom SGS kernels, were you running stock or something like speedmod on the SGS?
You are very wicked boy now i want .

Congrats alsheron
Hope ya will enjoy your new toy
Any hands-on pics? I know i can easily find it on google but... you know, its kinda different when pics are taken by a non-gadget bloggers

Sorry guys - the screen issues and finding out that £399 is the price on O2 payg (i'm on o2 contract) has made me feel a bit more sick.
I'm attempting to take it back to phones4u tomorrow. I already called and can tell it's going to be trouble. They have to call "head office" apparently. Thank God I can show my existing SGS next to the new SGSII so that they can clearly see the difference. I consider the issues I described a fault of the first batch and being able to see the difference easily should help me but I've not got a good feeling about phones4u. We'll see though. Hopefully they'll surprise me.
Wish me luck! -> Really need all your goodwill
You should post a track from my tracks with both device to see how GPS compare

I hope you have 2.3.3 on your SGS to compare it to your SGS2, as 2.3.3 will warm up any screen (google wanted this, not samsung). If you are compareing 2.2 or 2.2.1 with your new SGS2 then that is not a fare comparison of the screen and its color!
The Engadget review posted a few hours ago said there's an app or setting that lets you change the screen's colour temperature. In fact, they say pretty much the opposite to what you've said about the screen.

Perhaps you have a faulty one.
Congrats man. And good luck!

Well the SGS I is still a very nice and capable phone. You probably won't regret holding onto this one when the SGS III comes out.

Anthology thread for M8 related stuff.

The All new HTC One (M8) will soon arrive :fingers-crossed:
And you want to talk about it :fingers-crossed:.
But all you could post would be off-topic to HTC One M7 Forum .
So here is the solution: This thread is meant as a catch-all thread for HTC One (M8) related stuff. It is accepted by moderating staff and will be in place until the M8 will get its own forum. Then it will be moved there.
Here is how it will work:
- Only post M8-related stuff here, no comparisons, no off-topic.
- All forum rules of HTC International forums apply
- Post ALL M8 related stuff here. Do not open new threads as they will be closed eventually by moderators.
MOD Edit: Examples of things allowed in this thread:
- Release dates
- Hardware speculation (no comparisons)
- Software speculation (again no comparisons)
- Leaked Pics/Vids
Please stick to these simple things and you will be able to talk about the next big thing without getting your stuff removed or closed.
Cheers guys

No answer available yet afaik. But I bet there will be one. And as the One was the first HTC that had a Google Edition, there is no "usually" yet. The "Google Edition" in principle was invented after the One (M7) was released, so I guess this time it won't take long.
Thanks
I'm just curious about two things. Battery life and camera quality. These are the two things that really irked me about my One. SD card looks like it's there but I can manage with 32gb on the phone. I just want a battery that lasts long enough. I see people on here getting 5 hours screen on but only with WIFI and/or having brightness at 0.
As for the camera. I hardly use it since its gone purple and I haven't got a spare phone to send it off. Also the low megapixel count really was an issue when looking at pictures on a PC or TV. Fine for Instagram and Facebook but thats it
Watched viral video of HTC One M8
I found these changes good & bad according to me
GOOD
SD card
Dual rear camera
Big battery
Next level single piece aluminum body
Notification light position & style
Power button placement
BAD
No beats audio (I know mini max was without that & beats gone)
Headphone jack at bottom huh
HTC bezel still there with same size and onscreen button ( developers looks like a fool ) best way make HTC glowing & function as home
Setting no color all white ( this is not 1956 B/W TV )
Some people also expected fingerprint scanner
Back looks more round not good for put on flat surface and use
Some also expected water resistant body

Upgrading to the M8?
What I like: 3 gig of ram, SD800 processor, SD card slot. What I really don't like is the onscreen buttons. I use Nova Launcher and have my M7 configured 6 rows by 7 columns. The 7th row is the dock. But with the M8 it may not be possible to get 6 rows because of the space the onscreen navigation buttons take up. I may not be able determine the number of useable rows until I get the M8 in my hands and install Nova launcher. When you are short on space, the icons will partially cover up the text below the icons. Anyone using Nova launcher have any thoughts on this? Here is my present homescreen :

Got to say from the leaked video everybody seen there's really nothing that's going to make me want to upgrade, I mean to be fair it's last year's hardware and same screen, except camera, i feel the design has taken a step back really only thing I liked was the gunmetal colour, yes it will have bigger battery better camera and be a bit quicker +sd , i suppose what's really annoying me is the on screen button's, just doesn't make sense having on screen and still having the part with the htc logo, was really looking forward to it and all, think I'll be giving it a miss
Yeah I don't know why they messed it up with keeping the HUGE bottom bezel with on screen buttons. Will still probably get one

Another "meh, me too" here. Woohoo - green blink feed . You can see from my list below how many HTC's I've had and also bought for the rest of the family too, son, wife, managed to get HTC as the phone of choice at work too but with the ridiculously slow (and possibly broken) recent update, the complete lack of imgination which has gone into the next model (if indeed that is it in the video), returned units for purple tint this year, I'm gonna have a look around the competition this year and throw some money at them for once. Not good enough htc (from last year and what appears in that video), sorry.

Is that bottom bezel really like that or is this just the developer (I know it's there wishful asking lol ). Do the onscreen at least dissappear in the browser ?

I personally won't be getting the M8 at any point. It doesn't really feel like an upgrade and I'm still just as happy with the One as when I got it.
We'll get the Sense 6 update on the M7 pretty quickly anyway + I've got no qualms with my current battery life or camera quality. Even expandable storage isn't something which would make me want to upgrade considering I'm finding 32GB to be enough anyway.
As I said right from the beginning (as can be seen in my review found in my sig), this is the first HTC device I've had and I've definitely been impressed so as long as HTC can keep up with this level of build quality and beast of a phone, I'll surely consider getting more HTC's in the future.

Was really hoping the phone that kid had was a prototype, but it's too genuine and finished looking, and also it looked like he had it for a while too, even though people got to see the m8, that kid and that video ruined it and i think that is the general feeling, I know the phone will be better but it shouldn't be seen like that for the first time, the HTC one was and is a great phone and a more mature and grown up experience, people bashed blinkfeed and the camera but most agree now that blinkfeed brings something different, other companies have tried similar but there not the same, and in fairness the camera is good people expect to much, just look at how popular that selfie at the Oscars was with what 2mp, did anyone say that picture was ****?

The onscreen buttons didn't dissappear while i was browsing. Only on the homescreen, the black bar with the buttons is transparent (see image below).
When the device is locked the three buttons are replaced with an arrow and you can swipe up for google now.
Also, the padlock supports swipe up to unlock, swipe right for blinkfeed and swipe left (for me it does the same as swipe up).

The main thing which got people liking BlinkFeed more was the ability to remove it natively.
Pre-Sense 5.5 I didn't like BlinkFeed and moved it to a different screen until a dev was able to remove it. Within a few days of the update and therefore being able to remove it without flashing anything, I really started to like it and use it much more often.
I understand that HTC wanted to force it upon people so that they'd like it BUT they'd have had more success if they had that feature from launch.

If you are thinking of ditching your Note for the M8...

Just want to share with anybody thinking on making the swap. I was getting tired of the 'lack' of development on the AT&T Note 3 due to the locked bootloader, so I decide to give the M8 a 14 days ride (AT&T time to return a device). After 14 days, I had to return the device and have to say that the Note 3 still much better than the M8 and developing is not enough to make you ditch the Note 3 for the M8.
Things I could not tolerate on the M8 :
* On screen buttons, with the on screen buttons the display basically becomes a 4.7' display, and that empty space where the htc logo is was just driving me crazy. I tried using different apps and mods to hide the buttons or reduce the size but still it was not natural.
* The camera... wow it does sucks, you have to tinker too much with the settings and exposure/focus to get a decent picture every time, and don't even dare to watch you photos in a big computer screen, you will be more disappointed.
*The notification led is to small that it defeats its purpose.
*The aluminum body scratches way to easy.
I thought about it. Thanks for this post.
odd
you should have tried GPE (Google Playstore Edition) M8.
I mean. At least HTC has that option. Unlike GN3.

First of all, you're listing opinions as a reason why not to get the M8. You didn't NEED to return your device, you WANTED to. BECAUSE YOU don't think the increased development is worth it [to you]. On-screen buttons: all preference like you stated. Not everybody has an issue with that and it certainly isn't a reason to tell someone not to get the phone. The camera is great in certain conditions, just like the Note 3. Neither of them are top-shelf to make one better than the other. Both have their ups and downs and balance themselves almost equally. Notification LED is another opinion. Aluminum body is another opinion.
All-in-all, BOTH phones are great and have their ups and downs. It comes down to preference. For me, the on-screen buttons is the main reason I haven't even tried it out. That waste-of-space HTC logo is simply obnoxious and unnecessary. I don't think it was a smart idea building the phone that way.
Camera... in low-light conditions and other scenarios you can produce/capture amazing pictures. Same goes for the Note 3. It's all about the conditions and what hardware/software you have in place for those conditions. Calling one better than the other would be silly. We can get into why Apple is better than Microsoft if you want to go that route (I hate them both, personally).
Anyway, you can't tell people what they're going to like and dislike. Well, you can, but you're going to get messages like this. To build a legitimate statement, comparison, etc... you'd have to do a lot more research than you're going to be willing to do.
Maybe keep this in mind: You're not going to like something just because I like it. I'm not going to dislike something just because you dislike it.
If anything, I think you should've at least compared the two.
As stated, opinions on all counts. Bearing that in mind, I see this no differently than a "Best ROM" thread that leaves you open to heckling and trolling. As such this thread is closed.
A decent, detailed comparison of specs vs usability would have been the way to go.

what would u upgrade to?

I'm looking to upgrade my phone and I've been looking and everything out right now looks pretty sweet. I really like the quality of the M8 (that dot screen cover )and sense 6 looks slick. But the G3 has removable battery expanded memory and I love the screen. So I'm just wondering if u were upgrading what would u get and why. And it isn't just between these two.
Hate to do it to you, but these types of threads aren't allowed for the sole reason that they ultimately lead to arguing and flaming. Fanboys will be fanboys...
