Just got the HD - Touch HD General

Hey guys,
Just got my HD. Lovely looking phone... but a little slow? Texting is difficult, as i tap it 3 times and sometimes doesnt respond as quickly as it should?
Just a question really, as im new to HTC after having Sony Ericssons for the past 3 or 4 years, can I "speed" it up, in regards to it responding slow?
What programs are the best to use for the phone, like add-ons?

Any help please?
Can you play DIVX movies on the HD?

check out the wiki software page(s): http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Software
And, the Blackstone page: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone

Yes it can play DivX, just dl the DivX player (free). Also, there is a patch to fix the lag from typing (the only patch from htc) and it does the job well.

I think Schap's Advanced Configuration utility allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the touch screen.
The use of this is even more so, when you use a screen protector. Google and I'm sure you'll find it (though I may have spelt Schap wrong)

How do you use schap's tool to change screen sensitivity ?, the only sensitivity you can change there is the TouchFlo one, and it does not affect the keyboard no ?

HTC home display cut short

I am running the original T-Mobile Windows mobile 5.0 rom and have installed the htc home application so the weather function works on my MBW-150 watch. But the display is cropped on the top and bottom,I have tried different vertions but still no luck. Any help or pointers would be great
Have you tried removing Today plugins one at a time to
see which is crowding the display?
no even if there is only the htc plugin on the today screen its the same,If too many items are displayed a scroll bar is shown.
search for vga htc home plug in
What DPI setting are you using?
I am running the vga version, and the dpi is at what ever the standard WM 5 is (unless I am missing somthing and I can alter the DPI on WM5 ?
just got a XT7501 and facing the same problem. does anyone know the solution?
That version of the HTC home, which was an earlier version hacked to work on the Athena, only displays correctly at 96dpi.
If you want that to display properly, you need to install RealVGA, which can be found very quickly by searching these here forums, or try the new one in the AP4 addons cab.
Amazing what searching can do!!
**sarcastic rant over**
Well, I'm somewhat confortable with the standart resolution which brings me large buttons to touch on the go. Since I had HTCHome on my TyTNII, I was supposing they will work with standart resolution also. Guess I'm totally wrong and will need to read more about VGA, RealVGA, etc.

As Sergiopi suggests that version of the HTC home will work in all DPI's, but you will not be able to use the HTC home Customizer application to change the icons, fonts, etc
There is also another HTC_HOME_VGA.cab that works in all DPI's and also allows you to use the customizer app.

Show appointments on TouchFLO3D today screen

Hi,
I am still a bit confused about whether to get the Xperia X1 or the Touch HD. One concern is the possibility to show appointments on a today screen without getting rid of the user interface (i.e., I do not want to shut down or remove TouchFLO3D).
What I need is a possibility to show appointments not only for today, but for a user defined timeframe - like 1 week or a couple of days - in advance. In fact, right now I use a combination of the HTC homescreen with TodayAgenda 1.5 on my WM6 device. I like to switch on the device and see the actual time/date and all upcoming appointments without having to switch to a today screen, i.e. immediately. However, I am looking for a solution to integrate this into TouchFLO. I know that it is possible to have the "normal" today screen on HTC TouchFLO3D devices and use TodayAgenda.
Is this possible with TouchFLO3D on the Touch HD? (I expect that with such a screen size it should be possible to show many appointments without scrolling ...)
Eriol
Yeah man.. I would like to know if that is possible as wel.. on my diamond with SkippyCentraal ROM(NLD)
I did some tweaking with the software from here, but did not find a sollution yet on how to get more than 1 appointment showing on the today screen with Touchflow on..
Wow, thats sad ... if we cannot show appointments in TouchFlo3D
I just cannot believe this kind of limitation ...
I own Kaiser and I have never use TouchFlo ...
I also used TodayAgenda 1.5 and loved it on my previous phone. It was the bast app ever (for me) to be able to see all my appointments for next 30 days as soon as I switch the phone on. Shame we can't combine this on touchflo 3d as I dont want to disable it as it is what makes it different to other win mo devices.
Come on community. Let's crack it!
personally i dont like touch3d at all, it's slow, i prefer to use ultimate launch to have 2 or 3 today screen, and u can scroll each one using ur finger for example: i have 3 screens, one for today, with time and day, one for appointment(using agenda) , with any number of appointments u want to display in the screen!!!, one for applications icons( iphone style arrangement).
hope this may help!

If you tweak it (and maybe change to another ROM), it will work perfect for 95% (speed is good)
But the not showing of appointments (only 1) is sad... and there has to be some of u super tweaking guys who can fix this
X1 Panel allow u to customize the # of appointment showing on the panel
not sure if Touch 3D on HD is able to do so.
Well, maybe someone who has already got the HD can tell us ... this is really crucial to me. In the Raphael forum someone suggested to de-install TouchFlo3D ... that is exactly what I do NOT want to do, because I like TouchFlo3D otherwise.
In fact, HD screen should be big enough to show everything AND the upcoming appointments for the next 9 days or so ... Isn't there someone to figure out?
With Xperia X1 you can easily switch to a today screen that shows these appointments, you can even install TodayAgenda on the original today screen, without the need of removing the panel functionality.
There is an application called SecondToday that adds a 2nd today screen and is reported to work well with Touch Diamond. I wonder if this would be a suitable solution for Touch HD as well ...???
Eriol
I think this has been requested from the beginning of touchflo3d. I cant belive that HTC can fix this. I use the calendar every day and think its one of the major apps in WM. But HTC keep ignoring the calendar, there isnt even a tab for the calendar in touchflo3d.
If anyone know a nice integrated calendarsolution in tochflo3d I am very intrested.
Is this TouchFlo 3D cannot be disabled? Or replaced?
Hi folks
I think its about time for my first post in this forum.
Since HTC catched my attention with the HTC Touch Diamond I often visited this forum. Now I finally decided to purchase a HTC device too. I will go, like many of you, for the HTC Touch HD.
But enough of OT chat...!
As MEE I am also looking for a solution to display more appointments on the homesreen or in a new TouchFlow tab (if passoble).

No, unfortunately not. The Touch HD manual sais (on p. 67): One all-day appointment and up to two timed
appointments can be displayed. Touch this area to create, edit or view an
appointment. (See “Calendar” in Chapter 12 for details.)
This is not at all sufficient!
Anyway, this might be of interest for us (in German, though): Howto: Add a normal Today screen on TouchFlo3D
Someone here to try this on Touch HD?

This is interesting ! Please if anyone can test this and probably creates an english how to

A Today Screen clone would be one option to gain access to today info, see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401907
But with our large HD screen space more flexible plugin spaces, for example x number of appointments, would be prefered.

Definitely - I agree. But is it possible to add plugins into TouchFlo3D? X1's panels are rather independent, so you can add or delete them like you want to. In TouchFlo3D, the question is whether you are bound to what you have - or whether you are flexible as with the X1. I read in a X1 thread that they even think to add TouchFlo3d as a panel!
I hope we (or HTC: do you hear us???) finds a solution without the need of porting X1's OS to the Touch HD.

I would prefer a solution without the panels. The issue (showing appointments) is rather simple compared to installing the whole panel app to Touch HD. The latter might be a good project, but generally I hope we find a solution with less impact on the phone (I will use a company device, and I know that our IT guys will attack me if I start installing different ROM's or lots of programs that are not supported).
Eriol
As a suggestion, is there any way to interface Spb into TF3D? Spb shows LOTS of forthcoming appointments, and its Today screen is so programmable to user requirements.
Would there be any practical way to use this on the Touch HD? (Even Xperia has this now!!!)
I plan to turn off TF3D (is it possible with Touch HD???)
And use something else, probably SpB Mobile Shell .... ???
Unless, yes, if we can enable "Today" application in TF3D !
I have a touch hd, you can disable the TF3D under the "today" preferences.

HD rarely uses landscape mode

Folks,
I only got my baby yesterday, but is anyone else finding this?
For me, the device will only switch to landscape mode for Opera, Photos & Videos, and Teeter. Not in TouchFlow 3D Home or any of its tabs, Mobile Office apps, TomTom 7, ...anything!
I've tried turning off Touchflow 3D and rebooting with no effect and with the G-Sensor there is no manual setting to force landscape.
This makes the keyboard in TomTom tiny and means that the screen isn't that much more usable for Office apps than my venerable old 2.8" TyTn.
Please could someone tell me if it's just my phone that's afflicted or is it a "feature"?
Thanks!

no thats totally normal. and known since the first infos of the HD came out.
If you really want full landscape switching, get Gyrator2 or Gsen. both can be found on this forum
It doesn't help you, JTHM, but I hardly ever use landscape mode in my Touch (Elf) so perhaps the way the Touch HD works is by design for people like me. The only time landscape mode offers any advantage to me is for photos, videos and web browsing. With the mini USB connector at the bottom, my Touch is always in its cradle in portrait orientation and it sits in the car more easily this way too.
I'm surprised there's no manually-activated landscape option in the software though.
(Sorry that this post doesn't really help you but perhaps it illustrates that for some (maybe most?) users the lack of landscape isn't a problem at all and may therefore be by design.)
Hang on, can I clarify.
I like to use my xda2i in landscape with my bluetooth travel keyboard sometimes. Does this mean that i can't just rotate the screen to landscape and use it in landscape mode with my keyboard??

I think that raziel1 has already answered that question? Use Gyrator2 or Gsen both of which can be found in this forum.
It does seem to be missing a trick by not have some software button built in to switch the screen though.
I had one flaw with the HD: The typing. I wanted (like Iphone) to use the keyboard in landscape so i had more room for my fingers. But the HD doesn't do that standard.
I installed Gyrator 2 and set it to switch to landscape when i use my keyboard. In every application, now when I use my keyboard and tilt the device, the screen rotates.
It made my HD even better.
Which is better? Gsen or Gyrator? I know they have other features but I only want an app to rotate landscape and uses minimal memory as I guess it needs to be running on start up.
ok, gyrator is a PROGRAM. I thought it was another handset or something. oh as long as there is soemthing you can do te get the landscape working that's sweet for me. I'm really close to buying one of these beasts!
I'm surprised that TomTom doesn't rotate automatically.
I've sure I've seen screen shots of it in Landscape mode and wouldn't have thought those web site's had installed any other third-party screen orientation software.
Beards.
You can also purchase Resco keyboard. It has large keys that you can use with your fingers. Well that depends how big your fingers are. Best to download a copy of the program, install it and test it out.
And since the screen is 3.8, it should give you plenty of space on top to see your message?

yeah, after another reboot it's working now. tried it in a couple apps and seems fine so far... funny thing is with the streaming video app, when you go to fullscreen it auto rotates the screen, but as soon as you move the hd to landscape position gyrator rotates it again... will need to check out the docs on how to add exceptions.

What the HD2 really lacks

About a month ago I upgraded from my old trusty and excellent HTC HD to the new HD2.
After a few tweaks, haks and fixes and some downloads, I was extremely happy of my HD , in fact the only real improvement in the HD2 to me seems to be the much faster CPU (which of course is not a little thing)
However there are a couple of major gripes (or just lack of aternative options) on the HD2 that I find particularly unnerving, prominent among which is the excruciatingly bad Kboard.
It's even worse than the one I've got on my HTC Hero which has a far smaller screen.
On the HD I had installed "FingrKboard" which I found simply excellent; is'nt there something similar that would work on the HD2?
Or maybe do you think that the same .cab file that worked on the HD's wm 6.1 will also work on the HD2 wm 6.5?
Second major problem with the HD2 is that I still have'nt been able to find a (good and possibly free) registry editor for it.
I have read about some very interested tweaks for the HD2 in the threads of the forum, but they all require the use of a registry editor, which one would you suggest?
And again: would I be able to install and use one of those I had on the wm 6.1 of my old HD(1) ?
And last (and probably least too): would "Gyrator" ,be installable and working on the HD2 as it did on the HD1?
No eh?
And do you know of another app that would make the screen turn from portrait to landscape with all apps?
Even if you could point to the solution to just one of my conflicts with the HD2 , you would have accomplished your Xmas good deed by making very happy a poor afflicted geek.
This is the way you might earn your place in heaven, you know ?

FingerKeyboard worked on WM6.5 on the HD1 and works on the HD2. I found it to be superior to the standard HTC keyboard.
There is also a cab file that reduces the sensitivity of the screen on the HD2. This is supposed to make typing a bit easier although I have not personally tried it.
For registry editing, I use PHM RegEdit. It's a free program.
I use Resco Explorer and once you've downloaded that (for free), download the registry editor add-in (both cabs on the Resco site)

Simple, easy to use and free.
Thanx fellas.
I had both PHM regedit and fingerkeyboard because I had downloaded and installed them on my old HD(1) and Samsung Omnia i900 ( of which I got rid long ago) , now I have installed them on the HD2 and they work great.
I wonder which other win 6.1 apps will work on the big screen and win 6.5 of the HD2.
Dutty (one of my heroes) for exemple had to modify Cyberon voice dialer to get it to work on the HD2 because as it was the standard version would'nt play together with the HD2., so not all HD apps would be usable on the HD2.
I wonder how Gyrator would behave in the new environment.
Oh, and thanks very much for the link too, very interesting and useful.
I hope I'll be soon able of being of some help too.

Hi there..
Dont mean to flame or anything like that.
But the title of the thread suggests that you arnt happy with the device.
So we start reading your post.
But its all just software features you lack or want to change.
And that does not really imply the hardware exclusive to the HD2.
@ Johncmolineaux
Thank you mate, I looked for it for 2 days, maybe I should wear my glasses more often.
@ Enonoid
I'm sorry if from my title you or anybody else got the impression that I was'nt happy with the HD2: I bloody love it man!
I just wished to find a few apps, progs and tweaks to which I got used with my old HD1 (which I loved too).
I also have an HTC Hero and a Nokia N97 ,which after Nokia changed camera lens, camera cover, GPS chip & software, installed ROM 2.0, optimized memory, and gave me for free one year subscription to the latest OVI maps for Europe, has become a great phone too; but the HD2 is my fav hands down, even though as an OS per se I like Andrid more than WM 6.5 (mainly because of the marketplace and the awsome free apps available).
One must be a brainwashed Apple fanboy not to like like the HD2.

Swype is the next generation keyboard, amazing. I am running it on the HTC Touch HD, although it will run much better on a capacitive screen, more sensetive the screen the better it will work.
Yes, Swipe rocks, but after BB tweaks adjusted the screen sensitivity of the standard kwerty, and the FingerKboard, they have become absolutely excellent too.
The only problem is that I can't put any of those in ladscape position.
I have tried to reinstall Gyrator but it does not seem to work on the HD2 it seems made for devices with styluses and resistive screens.
Did anyone find a way to type messages, notes, etc. in landscape?
