I do apologize if there is a thread similar to this out there. But I just got my sony xperia x1 this past Wednesday and I can not connect/sync my email or receive MMS text messages while on the att edge network. (It tells me to check my settings).
But I can connect/sync my email and receive MMS texts in wireless mode. The problem is most of the time I am in areas that i only can connect the edge network and it has been frustrating not being able to received email or multimedia text messages.
Does anyone have a solution for this? I would really appreciate it.

Has anyone been able to receive MMS messages on the iMATE XDA 2 through T-Mobile USA yet?
I'm able to send MMS messages, but when people send them to me they come in as SMS messages.
whats the difference between mms and sms?
SMS = Short Message Service, 160 characters max, text only
MMS = Multimedia Messaging Service, rich media content such as images, video and audio
maybe you have to active the "receive-mms"-feature on your phoneaccount to receive mms messages. Normaly the receive mms funktion is off, because not every phone can receive them
Ask you provide how to do this...

SMS runs over GSM
MMS runs over GPRS
MMS need to be switch to delivery directly to the phone by the service provider. However some service providers (mine is one as it happens) have not updated their system yet to allow both MMS and GPRS web/data services at the same time.
I'm stilling to the data services as I can still send any pictures I take via email.
i'm still waiting on the guy to reply who claims he gets unlimited gprs for $20/month from his provider in the US. Any know how who offers this?
T-Mobile offers $19.99 unlimited internet if you have a phone number with them. It's $29.99 alone without voice plan.

You can find more info on T-Mobile website or HowardForums.

TMO has an unlimited internet + hotspots (t1 line) for under $30, i think
holy...gawd i love tmobile. My ATT to Tmobile move just keeps getting better.
Ok so i spoke to HTC today and told them I could only send MMS to other TMO customers..not ATT or Verizon. The woman told me to change my APN settings..which i did and they did nothing....But!, she insisted that I should not be having that problem and that all MMS should be going to who I send them.
Also today I stopped in my local TMO store and explained my problem and they said they could not help me and because its not a TMO phone they cant guarantee that MMS will work..they really said that. I explained when I had my Iphone I was able to send and receive but they insisted they couldnt help me.
Im on at&t and i can get mms, but i cant send them, tried to put in the att apn settings and i still cant send them.
Any person that uses att on the nexus have them working?
thanks
I'm on T-Mobile haven't messed with any settings, but I've been able to send and receive picture messages from my friends who are on AT&T. Was also able to send out to someone with Cricket. Not sure if this helps any.
sounds like a network issue, T-Mobile may need to do a trouble ticket for you to investigate the issue.
mms issues
I have worked with all of the big 4 U.S. cell carriers in the last couple of years.
If mms is working within your network (in this case tmobile to tmobile) but not to other networks it is usually because the two networks are not set up to handle mms messages exactly the same way. If one network sends the mms at a file size that is too large for the other network, then the message will not go through most times.
It seems like there is an issue with the N1 not resizing pictures for mms. Most phones downsize the resolution to transmit the mms under the network size limits (usually between 300-500kb). If the N1 is not resizing the file it is likely that the mms will not go through.
The easiest way to determine if your mms settings are correct on your phone is to send yourself a mms, if you receive the mms correctly then your network settings are correct.
The issue you describe sounds like a problem with one network handing off the mms to the other network. There is probably nothing T-Mobile can do about it. Call technical support and file a trouble ticket anyway and have the people who you are trying to send the mms to call their service providers and do the same thing.

I have been having problems for quite a while with receiving MMS messages and sending them as well. I am on a monthly pay as you go plan with no data and i am out of the tmobile network, (roaming still in US) but with my previous phone (sidekick 4g), I was able to send and receive MMS messages if i had wifi calling on. Now that trick doesn't seem to work but once every good while. All I get is the download option then my bars will get that "x" over them to signify no coverage and wifi calling will turn off and after a while start again and no progress will be made in the download process. I have tried having both national and international roaming on and neither seem to make a difference. I havent made any tries to change the apn settings. Could anyone help me solve my dilemma? Thanks any help will be greatly appreciated.

Even though you're on a pay-as-you-go plan, you'll still need data enabled to send/receive mms messages. Otherwise you'll receive the message but never be able to download the attachment. My phone is on a plan without data, but I still have to enable data in order to send and receive MMS messages. I also need a good amount of signal (it has to be practically full signal) for it to go through. As far as my experience goes, you can't send or receive MMS messages while Wi-Fi Calling is enabled. Your signal bars show no signal because your phone is switching between Wi-Fi Calling and mobile radio. As for APN setting, I'm not sure which ones do and don't work. Whenever I have issues with MMS, I look up the values and re-set them.
TL;DR Just enable data and give it a try.

I have T-Mobile as well. If you watch closely when receiving an MMS, you will see that although WiFi calling is enabled, the mobile data indicator will show up and transfer the data.
As far as APN settings are concerned, it has no effect on WiFi calling. If you can receive MMS when connected to mobile data then your APN settings are correct.

The thing is that I do have my data enabled and i do see the indicator showing the data transfer but its usually a "G" and the arrows neither go up or down, but its really strange yesterday I was able to test it out and I was able to recieve an MMS but I tried sending one right after and nothing happened. I will probably recieve the failed to send message later on today. I was just hoping there was a fix to this. And as far as I have seen with experimenting with it, WiFi calling must be enabled for me to send or recieve MMS if not I get the message of could not send or could not download right away
I'm roaming in the Caribbean with the nexus 6p. I get data, but i can't send text messages. I do get text messages from people but whether i try to reply or send a new message, it always fails. Does anyone know what the issue is? E-mail works fine, as does Facebook messenger.
Also, how can i tell the quality of my connection or if its 2g/3g/4g when roaming. All i see is a network bar with a small r next to it, not the usual 3g/4g/LTE icons etc. Is there a particular setting for this?
Lastly, i have wifi calling enabled but i have no idea if its connected and working or not. Is there any way to tell when its activated and when its not so i don't incur roaming fees when calling home?
