i am going to be selling my g1 tomorrow and i wanted to know how to clear all my info so that email wont be connected to phone and it will be like the phone was for the initial setup
* Power off the G1
* Hold Home Key + End key for 20 seconds or till you see a triangle with an exclamation point and a picture of the G1
* Open the QWERTY keyboard and hit Alt+W

that is correct
don't forget to format your sd card
You might want to clear your phone numbers too as those don't seem to delete after a wipe.

Ok so here's the problem:
Whenever i want to go to my contact list, either by pressing the contact button, or going to my contact list via, Phone or "Contacts" on the start menu, it just flashes "contacts" at the top, doesn't display my contacts, and then just goes back to the today screen.
Is there a fix for this?
Many thanks.
Anyone?
did you perform "power&reset + no/yes/yes + mail button" the first time?

as soon as you push power&reset, you now press the camera&record buttons simultaneously. three lines will come up, and you use both camera & record buttons to navigate and toggle from no to yes to no... so at the end you'll get no/yes/yes (1st line/2nd line/3rd line)
the mail button is the 2nd button from the left (the one with the envelope icon).
all of these are in the wiki, which you're supposed to read before you attempt to upgrade. it appears you haven't done any reading yet, hehe...
Lool ok , now the mail button is the SECOND BUTTON BELOW THE SCREEN , with the Mailbox icon, next to Start up menu button on the left and the IE button on the right , to be more specific , the one with the set of 4 buttons . U can easily find it by look at the FRONT SIDE of the device . In Any case , you DID NOT find it , ill post you a Screenshot . cheersss

Silly me!
I did read the Wiki (Much help), and from there it was straight forward, it was just this little problem that was bugging me, but thank you very very much.

Bingo,.. it's working.
Everythings running in order, just like it did when i had WM5.
oooh,.. i wonder if i still have Worms World Party on it.
that will be lost... a result of the no/yes/yes action you did.
in any case, i assume you wouldn't have any problem installing the said game.
cheers!

I got a backup sitting somewhere.
I'm not too fussed though that i've lost it, cause this device serves me alot more than just a games device.

How To Get Rid of The Black Autocomplete Box When Using Hardware Keyboard
To Hide the Autocomplete Box:
1. Type as Normal Until Words Start Appearing
2. Press Menu Button Twice
3. Autocomplete should hide itself
To Bring the Autcomplete Box Back:
1. Press the text field once
2. Should Pop Back up once you start typing
Super thanks to the1wingedangel for figuring it out!
Original Post:
But does anyone know how to get rid of the black word suggestions that pop up underneath the text entry box when your using the full keyboard on the G1? I for the life of my can not figure out what auto correct option to uncheck. The worst part is that its really unpredictable and might show up 1 out of 10 times i start typing with the keyboard.
Thanks guys : )
EDIT: ooops sorry. Over looked the word 'full'
Good question...that started showing up randomly for me a couple of days ago.
Double tapping the text box while your keyboard is open should get rid of it from showing up again.
Hmm good idea uber, will give it a shot next time the thing pops up and let you know how it works out.
That annoyed the hell out of me so much i switched roms. It would auto-replace words that I didn't want replaced.
Alright so I tried the double tap thing and no luck on that front. Didn't work out for me. Anyone else try that fix out?
And I know what you mean CBowley. It might just take a .lib deletion or something to fix tho. Heres to hoping that something comes up : )

Make sure you're doing it before you type anything in the box or it's locked to the ON position. I've done it a few times on my phone right here and it's working like clockwork. :-/
Ah I see so are you saying to double tap before I enter anything in the textbox ever? The problem is that it will show up completely random times like 1 in 10 or something. But I'll try double tapping before entering anything in the field and see if that keeps it at bay.
To turn off auto complete and auto correct:
Menu->settiings->Locale & Text->Touch Input (or whatever KB u r using)->Text Input
From here you can turn on/off all KB/typing features.

Thanks maubig, but those settings don't help change the autocompletion for the full keyboard. VK isn't giving me the problem.
Ok, I seem to have figured out how to kill that annoying text suggestion pop up when using the hardware keyboard. When it pops up, double click menu button. To re-activate it, touch the text box once, then start typing. Seems to work.

Excellent Angel! That worked perfect for me. Did the trick exactly like you said it would. Lets see if it works for other people too. Time to change thread title. Thanks : )
Thanks for this... I despised that stupid black suggestion box.
Hey,
Anyone knows how to get out of a thread automatically after sending and SMS?
I mean, I press the Send button and then the thread is closed automatically and the SMS Inbox is showed... Any way to do this?
push the home or back button...
HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila\LSK_Send_Msg <-- Set to 0 instead of 1
--> Restart Device, now you got a back button at the left softkey and a sendbutton within the message itself.
Cheers
Ok, I've explained myself wrong... Obviously I know how to get out of an sms (using the back button, going to menu->all messages, using the home button, the windows button, activating the graphical Send button, etc etc).
What I want is a way to get out of a thread automatically after sending an sms...
Bump bump
^ No I think you explained yourself perfectly. It was pretty clear to me anyway! The use of the word 'Automatically' in bold should have given it away. I'd like this function too if anyone has any fixes.

I added the "automatically" after realising I was not explaining it the right way
got to press back button
anyway the whole system is windows, while people get in and out thru doors...thats why its always difficult to close application/exit because people use doors instead of windows haha
no task manager for 6.5, how can we access the currently running process? like going back from sms to browser or to email? apart from hard key/soft key?
like in android you can press home then it turns out 6 latest running program?
Just some information to share...not responsible for any damages to your phone!
There are few free games in the Samsung Apps store such as Asphalt5 racing game.
Here's how to get the free games:
- install the i9000 froyo
- install vibrant stock kernel
- boot to recovery and install root update
- install back the i900 froyo kernel
- install root explorer
- run Samsung Apps
- download the games, but don't install them
- close Samsung Apps
- run root explorer
- Do a search on the downloaded games by name
- copy the .apk to SDcard
- reflash back to Vibrant stock
- install the games apks
Note, there's a chance it will brick your phone, make sure you phone is not hardware locked before doing this. Also note that if you installed the i9000 froyo, to get to download mode, you'll have to hold "volume up", "home key" and "power".

Vibrants don't have a "home" key other than the soft touch home area. so how then can it be to hold that during power up to get into dlm when it's not a hardware button?
If you have actually done this, I would like to see a photo/video of this process on which key you consider the "home" key on the vibrant.
Otherwise I call bunk on the method described - it will probably only end up with a bunch of bricks.
Maybe I'm just stupid.

that's a soft touch hardware key. the home key is the one that has the home icon on it. the i9000's home key is also a hardware key but it's not soft touch type. of course I have done it. but if your phone is hardware locked...don't even bother to try it.
Can some one post in a zip format the apk files for the good apps. Thank s in advanced.

That's interesting the the soft touch key works in that capacity. Something I did not know was possible. So thanks for sharing that! I am amazed how much I learn each time I read more and more on XDA.
I know I'm probably going to facepalm, but I can't quite figure out how to factory reset on the A7-I'm finding that it just isn't quite what I was needing when I bought it, so I want to return it virgin to CompUSA. If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it.
TIA

Hardly clogging the forums, but for anyone interested:

Press power like you were turning on the device until the green lights come on
Release, then press (and hold?) power until you see "Hold Power for Recovery Mode" on the screen
Release, then press and hold power again until you see the recovery menu start to boot
It will reboot to an android with an exclamation point, this is the recovery menu
Then to navigate this screen, use HOME to display the menu text, Search = Up, Back = Down, Menu = enter.
If you're factory resetting, restore to default and clear cache.
