Hey,
Anyone knows how to get out of a thread automatically after sending and SMS?
I mean, I press the Send button and then the thread is closed automatically and the SMS Inbox is showed... Any way to do this?
push the home or back button...
HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila\LSK_Send_Msg <-- Set to 0 instead of 1
--> Restart Device, now you got a back button at the left softkey and a sendbutton within the message itself.
Cheers
Ok, I've explained myself wrong... Obviously I know how to get out of an sms (using the back button, going to menu->all messages, using the home button, the windows button, activating the graphical Send button, etc etc).
What I want is a way to get out of a thread automatically after sending an sms...
Bump bump
^ No I think you explained yourself perfectly. It was pretty clear to me anyway! The use of the word 'Automatically' in bold should have given it away. I'd like this function too if anyone has any fixes.

I added the "automatically" after realising I was not explaining it the right way
got to press back button
anyway the whole system is windows, while people get in and out thru doors...thats why its always difficult to close application/exit because people use doors instead of windows haha
no task manager for 6.5, how can we access the currently running process? like going back from sms to browser or to email? apart from hard key/soft key?
like in android you can press home then it turns out 6 latest running program?

Hi guys, new to the forum, thought i'd start off slowly haha.
This is an extremely simple question, but i had no idea where else to ask. I've been trying to select things on my Blackstone but cannot select anything without also opening it. For instance, i want to select an old note in order to delete it. The only thing i can think of is tapping it and this obviously opens it. Same thing for old or duplicate messages in a text conversation. I can select messages but only if i tap the contact, then press back to return the conversation. Its then highlighted blue and i can delete it. Any ideas on how to do this? Its simple but infuriating!

Tap AND Hold the stylus down until a menu pops up - most applications will respond differently to tap and hold.
I also learnt this early on and it surprised my at first !
Thanks alot that works for getting rid of notes
Can't seem to select individual messages in conversation view still. Weird!
sometime tap and slide or hold as suggested. holding movies and photos for a second selects them
Is there an app like this for Android - CDMA Hero?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340803
Wow, I haven't seen that screen in awhile. And to be honest, I never used it when it was on my old vogue. It seems like a good shortcut in theory, but it actually used more button presses to get things done.
Perfect example was for sending a text...
Open Action menu
Hit the Send new sms button,
tap contact to bring up the contact list
find contact to send it to
then type message.
I always found it a whole lot faster to just open up my texts and hit reply. And with the home screen allowing any app you want right there, you can always tap the program itself to go directly into contacts/sms/calendar/etc (thereby completely eliminating the need for the action menu).
I know it's not the answer you're looking for, just my $.02
When responding to sms messages I find that as I am typing the message the words are appearing as desired but then sometimes the text stops appearing in the message mid way through as I continue to type and the previous message is highlighted for no reason that I can understand. I then tap on the message window where I am writing and everything that I typed, which was not being displayed is there. Annoying, happens frequently.
i second that motion...
happens to me 2, btw do you have the tweak where there is a send button above the insert file option?
thought it might be that?
Nope, I don't have that tweak.
yeah, happens to me too, I'm in the uk on t-mobile. its really irritating

For the problem regarding the message disappearing then reappearing if you tap on the input area i have no clue why is that so and wondering is there a fix for that, or probably custom roms do not have that problem.
However, if you want to prevent the problem of "previous message is highlighted for no reason.." i suggest each time you reply to a message in HTC Sense, use the right softkey and choose reply, the previous message is probably highlighted because you tap on the actual message and start replying from there, as you chose to enter the messaging client to view that message and the HTC MESSAGING CLIENT takes time to load all the messages from that contact, it will highlight that particular/latest message after loading all the previous messages associated with the contact hence the highlight interrupting your reply.
P.S sorry for my lengthy answer
That doesn't solve the problem as that option is not available in the message string view.
Yeah, i experience this problem too
i'm using 1.66 WWE ROM and im pretty sure its just on 1.66
Everyone using this ROM experiences it if you're in Conversation mode and select the text to reply..
Basically if you have a lot of messages with 1 person, the HD2 is loading the messages WHILE you're typing, and once its done loading, it will highlight the previous message and thats where your cursor disappears..
i'm still looking for a solution to this too
i'm curious if this appears on cooked ROMs like Duttys..
cause if it doesnt, i would probably think of upgrading haha
I got a similar issue, although it's not just SMS, but emails too. Another guy reported the same: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6283141&postcount=2. Waht's going on suddenly?

The reply option is available when you go under menu>reply under the messaging preview in SENSE. For the highlight option, haven't found a solution to that either!

To enable graphic send icon button in HTC Messaging
The following registry tweak adds a graphic send button above the paperclip button. It also changes the 'send' left soft key to a 'back' soft key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\LSK_Send_Msg
Change from 1 to 0.

thanks Franwella but I have it already I was just ruling out the possibility that the tweak in some way effected the original topic of this thread

Ah-ha! Sorry. I misunderstood.
I'm afraid I can't shed much light on the problem. I have the same issue but only very occasionally. Every now and again it happens but not consistently. I haven't been able to pin down a cause.
Me neither - I cannot say why sometimes it does it and other times it does not when operating the phone in the same fashion.
You guys need to log this with customer services so that they can get onto it for the forthcoming firmware update. This phone is not that new anymore and there will probably only be the odd software update coming in future.
I always just hide the keyboard and reopen it.

OK, from where you are sat this is an 'endearing characteristic' of your phone and from where the rest of us are sat it's a bug.
Really common bug, reported here also:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585055
Please report it to HTC, it might get fixed then!

Never said it wasn't a bug, I just offered a simple fix. The same thing happens to me as well.
That's not a fix as it does not prevent the problem from reoccurring, it only remedies the symptom.
If this is affecting you, you need to report it to HTC.

Already reported. You really ought to learn some manners.
I find the search button that takes you directly to Bing obtrusive, is there any way of de-activating it or using it for another function?
Than you
do you can give us the registry key
i could like use it at people key
thank u
I hope in future it will be possible to deactivate button, if application doesn't support search.
Most of the times, I click it accidentally.
same problem here...
hate the search key ;-)
I find it super obtrusive to be honest - especially in landscape mode - 8 out of 10 IE viewing in landscape finishes by accidently pressin search and not being able to go back!
Anyone with an idea how to switch it off?
I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!
I so wish these buttons were real hardware buttons, so that going near them wouldn't take me away from a game which takes a minute to then re-load. Grr
Agreed - the search key sucks. You don't search much, and you always seem to hit it by accident.
Personally would love to turn it off, or turn it to a long key-press, then at least you won't hit it accidently.
Probably some registry-settings can do this.
I like it... I like how it's used by different applications to search just those applications (email, IMDB, etc). Yes, I sometimes press it by accident, but I can just press Back and I'm back where I was...

For me it goes back to IE
Edit: unless you mean after you've actually done a search?
that is really strange but no - I did not perform any search.
I feel it has to do smth with my location settings or some other settings that are mysterious to me.
I noticed that since playing with location settings to access the marketplace which is still not available in my country - I changed the location to UK, but IE search setting to my locale - When I press the search button I am not redirected to a nice bing search page with the fullscreen background picture but rather to bing's web address (and the displayed picture only takes 40-50% of the screen and is too small to enter anything without zooming in).
This could be the case with my problem.
Anyway - still hate the search button and would love someone to find a cure for it ;-)
Hello,
Is there a way to enable smileys on the default CM7 keyboard (instead of the enter key). For example in the Gtalk app there is a smiley option, but I would like to have it by default everywhere (facebook, messages etc.) - any way to do this?
Cheers...
Wasn't it always like that? Have you enabled another keyboard? I had searched high and low for a keyboard which removed the smiley key and brought back the Enter Key for the Messaging App, and only about 2-3 weeks back I found it.
Well, since I've flashed CM7 I haven't installed any other keyboard. I also haven't fiddled with any keyboard settings. So I'm quite puzzled that I have the smiley button only in Gtalk and messages (sorry I was wrong in my first post, there IS a smiley button in messages). However, I would like to have it also in Gmail and pretty much any other app - for example Facebook or its alternative Friendcaster.
Any idea how to enable it?
Not without any 3rd party app (Also, I have no idea which 3rd party keyboard does this). The default Gingerbread keyboard is context sensitive, i.e. - for a fixed set of apps, it will show the smiley key, and, for another fixed set of apps, it will show the enter key.
Editing should be possible if you don't wish to go for the Enter key, but, are all your GMail E-Mails only 1 line messages? (Because, till date, all I have seen, you can either get the Smiley key OR the enter key, not both) I find it difficult to live without it in the messaging app itself, leave along Gmail and browser.
Anyway, to state again, editing the keyboard should be possible, but it needs technical know-how, and I can't help you on that.
Well you have a point there, that writing a mail without enter would be quite a problem ;-) Anyway, I guess I'll have to stick with writing smileys the long way (using "." long press) ;-)
Thanks for clarifying the issue.
Cheers...

One way to go around that is by making the smiley (or smiley menu) appear afther a long press on the enter button. There is a keyboard on the market ("keyboard from android 2.3") which does that, in the gui of (as the name says) the android 2.3 keyboard.

Thanks for that. It's indeed the perfect solution, but I thought it was unaccomplished till date
