I have a slight beef about my 8525. Sure, it's a great phone with a lot of features, but that only goes so far when the battery life is terrible. I came from a RAZR so maybe I am expecting too much, but I can start the day with 70% battery life and take a couple pictures and browse the Internet for a few minutes (under 10) and end up with 40% battery life by the end of the day. I'm not keeping Bluetooth, WiFi or any Cingular connection open and I am leaving the phone in standby. It seems like anytime I do anything, the battery life goes down 10%. The only software I have installed is Google Maps mobile. Is this normal or am I expection too much out of this thing?
I have done the registry edits for better battery life and conditioned the battery properly when I got it. Will a different radio version help (I currently have 1.40.30.00 on WM5) or WM6 help?
I once placed a 45 minute call and the battery life went down 20% just by doing that.
Am I being too picky?

I've seen people say that some radio's gulp power like crazy, so u cud experiment with different radio's.
I'm on 1.47 rite now and I talk a lot of my phone, use google maps, browse the web, and I charge my phone once every 2 days or so. So its pretty good, i think for the amount of functions the phone has.
I just did a search for battery just in this forum, and in the title of the thread and found a lot of similar complaints so I don't feel so bad now. I also did the registry edit that allows the BAND tab to show under the PHONE settings so I can manually lock my phone to EDGE most of the time and select UMTS only when I prefer the additional speed. One would logically conclude that locking the band would help battery life. We shall see
Radio 1.40.30.00 seems to be a radio version most people are content with so I am stick with it for the time being.
Battery Life
I had an 8125 for almost a year and it was usually good for a day or so.
I recently dropped the 8125 into a cup of water... Amazingly it was not submersible. So now I have the 8525 here in Los Angeles.
The battery life is pretty pathetic. If I unplug the phone in the morning (around 10am) and just carry it around with me without even talking by 2am the phone is letting me know the battery is low.
If I talk on the phone (under an hour) then the phone is dead by 11pm
I use Google Maps for the traffic, and I also have multiple exchange email accounts which check about every 10 minutes.
On days when I actually use the phone and google maps, if I unplug at 10am the phone is dead by 6pm.
At the moment I am running Schnaps 3.60a.

*All* PocketPC phones will have battery life about as long as yours has.
The problem here is merely that you are trying to compare its battery life to a normal cell phone. For the past 4-5 years, the battery life on Windows PocketPC phones has been about the same.
If you want to compare your PocketPC to another device with regard to battery life, you have to compare it to a laptop and not a cell phone.
Welcome to the future.
I do realize that all of the advanced features will use more juice. I use a HP iPAQ and a Dell Axim at work which both use WM5 and those only get around 4-5 hours of life before they are dead.
It just seems that battery technology is lagging behind the electronic gadgets that use them.
I almost hate leaving the house with the phone being less that fully charged in case I really need it somewhere I am not around a place it can be charged. Suppose a car charger would be in order.
Yes! Crappy Battery Life on the 8525
Yes. I came from an 8125 (ActiveSync on 25/7) and was able to use my phone for 1.5 days. With the 8525, I am lucky to get 6-8 hours. Big bummer!
I locked my 8525 into the Edge network and I believe that my battery life has increased marginally. Of course, this will not work for some people because they need the faster 3G network, but if you would rather have longer battery life, I say give this trick a try. It is really nice if you live in a fringe area where your phone bounces from Edge to 3G and back again frequently.

Sorry but you are totaly wrong.
I had a TyTN for 3 monthes. I hardly had more than 24h in standby (no phone, wifi & Co). Phone was only in GSM mode, no UMTS. Tryed a lot of rom/radios.
I sold it, cause this was really too ridiculous.
Now I own a HTC Touch. With same usage and applications installed, I charge my phone only every 4 to 5 days.
12h in standby = only 10% less for battery.
This added to form factor made me very happy, no way I come back to hermes or even kaiser ...
Hi,
I have diamond, and thinking to get diamond2.
I have a question for D2 owners.
How is the battery life on D2, because the original battery for D1 was terrible, I got the extendet one so it's ok. But as I know there is no extendet battery for D2. And the stock one is just a bit bigger then D1. But the screen is also bigger on D2, with drains more battery, I think.
How long the phone lasts with moderate use? Also is there a difference with 6.1 and 6.5.1 rom with battery drainage?
And maybe someone had D1 and now hase D2, so whats the + and - compared?
Thanks
I have had both. The TD2's battery is considerably better than the TD(1) in my opinion. I'd say the TD2 would be at about 30-40% charge once the TD(1) run out.
I think my TD2's battery is pretty good, as long as 3G and bluetooth are turned off. Other than that: abysmal (Not quite TD1 bad, but almost)

I'm getting around 90 hours. I recharge when the battery reaches 40%-50%. Generally bluetooth, wifi, and cellphone radios are turned off. I use my TD2 as PDA.
I find the D2 battery life on WM6.5 much improved. I seemed to be always charging it but now, it's less critical. Also, with all transmitters turned off, the lifetime is pretty good. My phone was on for a week on holiday and the battery was 90% by the end of the week having turned the mobile on for an hour or so to check messages a couple of times.
Of course, turning the phone & WiFi off isn't very practical but it does shown where the power drain comes from - no surprises there!
Cheers, Rob.
am getting 2 days , to 3 ...normal usage, and songs.
got even 4 days with normal usage. Can always buy a bigger battery
My wife got a TD2, and battery lasts for 3-4 days with her usage, and when I used her phone it lasts about 2 days. Not too bad, really.
The longer you have the TD2, the less you "play" with it and therefore the better the battery becomes. Never base battery consumption in the first month of getting your new toy
Cheers, Rob.
On ROM Base 2.18 drained for couple hour.
On 2.16 go 3-4 days with normal usage...
Regards
I have Duty HG R6 and battery drains FAST! Fully charged it lasts less than a day with normal usage on 2G network and everything turned off (BT, WF), few messages and max 2 hours of talking! And one more thing, anyone else experiencing that phone is getting hotter after 5-10 minutes of talking? Sometimes I cant put it on ear because of that...

Same here, 2 hours of talking and battery are gone, all other (BT, Wifi, 3G) are off, no play with device, only talking and some short e-mail read or write.
I search this forum and all users write that device last for 3-4 day ?? But what usage are to last 3-4 day, my phone is empty on half of working day.
And yes, phone are hot after 10-20 minutes of talking, some time my call last for 50-60 minutes, and this is terrible, like radiator on ear.
My call consumes eta 1% for 1 minute of call, (13 minutes , battery drops 11-12%)
Is this normal for this device, i have no answer on this question, but i plan send device to HTC service, because 5 h of talking in specification are far away in my Diamond2.
Maybe we should try some rom with 2.16 base and not 2.18 like miro666 sad. Will try it soon and report than and I'm using 4.49.25.14 radio...
I always have everything switched on with wifi and data access available when needed.
I run a 'lite' ROM, always install all apps to phone mem (Micro SD usage consumes a lot of power) and charge as often as possible.
I am probably what you would describe as a heavy user. I always carry a spare battery and an external power pack.
I need the extra power only rarely and so I usually make it throught an eight hour day on phone power alone with this usage.
Only a Day
I have a standard TD2 with a standard UK 6.5 upgrade.
Battery beeds charging daily. Im not even a heavy user. I make/receive a few calls, send a few texts, check my email and use "Brain Trainer" game for 15mins whilst on the bus going home from work.
The battery is pants!!
Hey.
Got my X10 a few days ago,
And im the only one with a power problem ?
Having to recharge it alest once a day ?
My batteri drops aprox 12 % per hour, so I usefully charge 2 times a day.
Since 1AM to now (12AM) it went from 100% - 24%. And Ive been sleeping alot, so the phone hasent been muched used either.
What kind of usage are you partaking in? In my experience most smartphones have to be charged daily.
Here's a post from Esato Forums where someone did an extensive battery drain usage test:
http://www.esato.com/board/printpost.php?post=2933402
The last day Ive been using it minimally, and Im on my second charge for the day. All my other phone last 1 day (6am-12pm) before needing charging. But my X10 needs an aditional charge at about 2-3pm..... And even then is as good as empty at 12pm....
I hope its just a small software bug, or something that could be fixed with a reset. Im starting to enjoy this phone, but there are several days a week, I will not have the time to charge it a second time..
Think Ill go for that reset, and see if that helps....
Anyone else with X10, and batteries that drain extremmely quick?
Mine dies after about 8 hours, but this is usually normal with new batteries, it should be better after a few FULL recharge cycles.

Were your previous phones smartphones, just out of curiosity.
Also, you could try to reduce how often TimeScape polls in the background for updates. That might help.
My current iPAQ 910c lasts a full day if I do nothing but the occassional phone call and SMS. However, if I do anything power intensive the battery fails, and the phone is done until it can get 2 hours or so of charge. But that's why I'm looking to replace it... definitely not normal.
I have access to every phone I want.. And Ive only been using smartphones.
(Currently as in sign.).
I dont use timescape or mediascape, so they have been disabled.
And yet the battery only last for aprox 10 hours....
I never had a phone with such a bad battery, however, Ive never had a phone with such big screen or cpu either....
You gain some, you loose some.
And to he who talked about recharging cycles to maximize battery,
this kind of batteries dosent work that way... They are allready maxed..
I've had mine for a few days now.
The battery's pretty good, I've only charged it once over about four days, so I'm pretty pleased. However, it does seem to use a lot of power if you have wifi on, even in sleep mode.
I've also had no problems with my "a" in either keyboard (Norwegian/Japanese) so far.
I'm still on 14 btw, if anyone's noticted battery dropping after they updated.

I would not say that the my battery is good. but it is ok, i haven't had it fully charged yet, since I did get git yesterday. and it did last about 10 hours or so, from 60 or 70%. with playing music, trying out some things etc. but I worked 5,5 of these hours and was in the movie theater 2 of the other hours.
anyways, I haven't really had much problems with the keyboard either, as you said. the only thing that really buggs me is the damn space button. it is too small! :/ I wen't from an X1 to the X10 no, from using HTC magic before that. But I am starting to get really used to the other keys.
I haven't installed the latest build/patch either.

Just download "spare apps" and see what apps som drain u battery
My X10 take only 6% on 3 hour on normal use
very very bad battery drain! Left mine on flight mode at 2AM with 50% battery left, before going to bed. Woke up at 11AM and the battery was dead with no usage nor cell connection!

A chellphone uses more battery when there is bad reception, because it tries to get a better reception.
Like if there is just edge, the phonei strying to get HSDPA connection instead, this drains more of the battery.
+ With android the phone leaves some of the apps running in the background.
I recommand that you get an app that can shut these down.
Like a task manager kinda..
eg.Advanced Task Manager
I hope this helps ye.
and if you go into "settings - about the phone - Battery usage" then you can see what apps that is draining the most of the battery etc.

As I wrote before, phone was in standby on flight mode: it means that NOTHING was running nor any 3G data was exchanged. I've had many Android phones (Magic, Hero, Milestone, Nexus, Legend) and in similar conditions they lost only a couple of percentage points of battery, not 50% like X10!! I do love this phone, but heavy battery drains is driving me crazy (and it's definitely not a faulty phone, since I know many many users with the same problem)

I actually think the battery is good too. I recharge every other day, which seems to work fine.
I have bluetooth and wifi off, and mostly doing manual updates for timescape. I do surf quite a bit though, and no problems with battery drain. In my experience, my X10 lasts a lot better than a Satio for example.
Strange how half of the people posting here, have very good batteries (1-2 days), and the other half have extremmely bad batteries (8-12 hours).
I doubt the ones with the bad batteries are "worse user" then the ones with the good batteries......
I'm one of those with lousy battery usage. Hardly use the phone, but drains in no time. However I've ordered 4 new batteries, so gonna test all of them and see if there's a pattern.
Grrr.. Was just setting up my contacts to Facebook.. Took around 20 minutes and drained 21% of my battery.. That's just not okay..
I just left it for 2 hours without doing anything and the battery from 90% dropped to 65%. This is not cool at all. SE we need a solution ASAP.
I'm one of those that get bad battery duration on the X10. I usually leave BT and WIFI on as I did in my N97. By observing who drains most of the battery, I get around 30% for the radio in standby and 20% for BT. The processor is only a small percentage (2%) so I don't belive that the snapdragon cpu can be blamed for bad battery duration. How is it possible that Nokias as the N97 having the same communication hw (GPS, WIFI, 3G, BT...) last for days with similar usage and battery capacity? Ok, the procesors are ony half the speed but I don't belive this makes so much difference...
I own a HTC Nexus also and has slightly better battery duration than the X10 but way far form the N97. I've roorted the phone and can change the CPU speed. It makes very little difference on battery duration if you set 400 or 300MHz instead of 1GHz.
So, it seems what makes all android devices so power hungry is the way the OS handles the communication interfaces, I belive most RF chipsets should have similar power drain and CPU's are idling most of the time. Perhaps symbian has a smarter algorithm to hanlde 3G/GSM/WiFi switching and no services polling the network when the phone is in your pocket.

So seeing i am in an area that does not have 3G I will have a problem with battery drain bcuz it will be constantly be trying to connect to HSDPA?
So this afternoon I decided to charge my phone for the first time in 3 1/2 days as the battery level dropped to 9%. I last charged it fully on Thursday night, and unplugged in on Friday morning. I unfortunately don't have screenshots to prove it because I plugged it in briefly (for no more than 10 minutes) to update to FRF72, and also rebooted.
If you are wondering, here are my settings:
- Wifi on (Sleep disabled)
- 3G on (Set to WCDMA Only in the secret menu)
- GPS on
- Sync on
I'm using stock Froyo (FRF72), and have had quite a lot of stuff running:
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Meebo
- FotMob (World Cup alerts)
- A fair bit of browsing
The only thing I haven't really done which I think kills the battery is listening to music. I listened to it for about 30 minutes on the train this morning the battery dropped from 32% to 16%.
So to the people complaining about the battery life being terrible: You're Doing It Wrong!
That's impressive if true. I've been getting really great battery life lately with CM and IR's kernel as well. I can go two days on a single charge, but I plug it in every night anyway.
I find that the biggest battery waster is phone calls. Maybe switching to EDGE would help with that, but I don't feel like it's worth the effort.
Lucky bastard. I get like 1day 4hours for typical use with Cyanogenmod 5.0.8 with 3G off, wifi off unless I need it, sync off, gps off, and maybe 200 texts sent a day and a phone call or two for like 5mins. The battery life is really bad for me...and has been ever since using CM but i can't go without it, I'm just too use to it now.

I only got 3 days but to be fair I did have to jump start my car with it, that may have upped the consumption.
i unplugged my phone 7.5 hours ago, and i am still at 95% . using stock froyo on 3g with wifi on.
i even took a screenshot but will post it later.
You're either a liar or didn't use your phone at all
I have serious doubts you can get that kind of battery life. I tried not using the phone at all with lots of services stopped and it could barely go through 2 days.
3 days is a bit too much.
3 and a 1/2 days on a single charge is great... I doubt u'd get much better battery life on any phone with the same features as the N1...
I get 6 to 8 hours on stock 2.1 - no fair!

if i don't do anything i also can get 3 days. but i play so much that i have to charge every 7 hours my tipical day is something like this:
Listening music 3 hours straight (i travel 3 hours)
Reading the news
Browsing the net
sometime a little talking
playing with the phone
and when i arive i got 60% left after 3 hours. i think it's impressing but i got better battery on my Hero. i also carry a power pack with me as emergency. i can almost charge my phone twice
My wife gets that on her Hero running 2.1 (was also getting that running 1.5).
I have a hard time getting a full day to be honest. One thing I've always wondered is what kind of reception these people get and how they store their phones.
At home and at work, my 3G reception goes from 1-2 bars while I'm connected to Wifi. I find this drains the battery.
I also carry my phone in my pocket without any case whatsoever.

Admittedly this weekend I haven't used it as much as I usually do, however even so I still get pretty good battery life. I've had quite a few occasions when I've easily had 2 days of battery life. I don't understand how people get less than a day.
Here are a few things that I have noticed definitely help:
- If using 2.1, install a custom kernel. On stock 2.1 I barely got a day and a half.
- Connect to wifi where you have it, and set the wifi sleep state to none. Although wifi uses more power than 3G, when it is idle it is a lot more efficient, and due to the increased bandwidth it can be idle longer. You also save on your data plan. You may also want to disable the feature to notify you of open wifi networks, however I don't know if this has an effect on battery life (I suspect it does).
- If you are in an area that has 3G coverage most of the time, in the secret menu set it to WCDMA Only. This will prevent it falling back to the slower and less efficient GPRS or EDGE.
- Keep an eye on what apps are using up the battery life. It is rather easy to accidentally create a service that prevents the CPU from sleeping which will quickly kill the battery. If you find one let the developer know and / or find an alternative.
- Turn off things you don't use (i.e. Bluetooth).
When I left the office this afternoon my battery was at 76%, and it has no dropped to 65%. On my 30 minute subway journey home I listened to music, however I also had no coverage. I'm not sure whether this drop is mainly due to music or having no coverage, so I'm going to investigate more. The battery usage panel says that 'Cell Standby' has used the majority of my battery since it was last unplugged, and it also recommends to enable airplane mode when in an area of no coverage. I should probably also note, that other than this I'm always in an area of strong coverage (yaye microwaves!).
I got about 3 days without using the phone AT ALL.
On a fresh brand new N1 with Cyan ROM.
3 days with moderate usage is false, I'll put money on it.
There is no way that is possible yet with a stock battery no matter what ROM you're using.
If you want to confirm your claim I'll be happy to see the screen shots.

I'm using the Phillips Power2Go http://www.philips.co.uk/c/power-so...=85F14C383C63DDF5599FE5DA0A89CD07.app102-drp1
A followup from my music tests: Playing music for 25 minutes on low volume dropped the battery percentage from 64% to 61%, so I'm guessing that isn't the major killer I thought. I'll try switching on airplane mode before I go on the train tomorrow and see if that improves things
I would gladly trade you my 8 - 10 hours on a stock n1 with moderate use for your 3 1/2 days. That is with everything off. If I start playing a game or listening to the radio I better have a charger close by. My phone is only about 2 months old if that.

I'd be happy with ONE full day of a battery. I'm positive your not getting 3. N a half. Stock kernel. Stock froyo. Basic battery nd decent usage?? Ill donate...no give yield $50 if that's so..

I have no choice but to charge every day with my use. I've found that the battery is usually empty after the screen has been on for about 3 and a half hours. Where my display accounts for about 70% of the battery drain. I always have the brightness at maximum though so I guess it's to be expected.
So i was wondering.. How is your battery performance on your Hero ?
Well mine is mere **** to say the least I need to charge it during the night and one more time during the day and when i go to bed its empty again .. Not.. good ! I use the Kimera 3.0 rom, which is perfect speed wise.. But the battery is another story (maybe not because of the rom?)
I use the phone a whole lot though.. Much time on Wifi and when not on wifi im on 3G / HDSPA .. But is the battery really supposed to be THAT ****ty?
Is there anything i can do to fix it?
My battery was holding for about 5 days at the beginning, currently it dropped to 2 days
call+sms+game(30')+wifi
used about 1 day
Battery is draining in no time!
If you are using a Custom ROM, after fully recharging your mobile phone
(i.e don't trust the green led, charge for more time) go to recovery and wipe battery stats.
If you still on stock rom, then start closing wifi/bluetooth etc etc..
My experience is that I had to charge it over night once and at least once
during the day... otherwise I would not be having a mobile phone to use
After 2 years my phone's battery is ... how can I say in one word? hmm ... Oh yeah, CRAP! , I recharge it twice a day or once a day but once a day is the perfect word depending how much Mobile Data I use (social networks, browser) and very few calls of 20 to 40 minutes total each day and maybe just maybe 30 minutes of games (once or twice a week I play games). It's not what it used to be .. now I am thinking getting a pocket for my charger for when I go somewhere
My battery was really bad, I'd have to recharge it at night and around 4 PM. Now I bought a new one and it easily makes it a day with 3g turned on and using it a lot.

i don't do much things with my phone except like texts and calls, some times wifi, so my battery can last about 2days, which still makes me have no words to say.
Mine lastes about 1 day(Heavy use). And i think is is perfect because i always recharge over night. So it does not need to last more than 12 h.
A couple months back my battery was getting swollen. Enough to make the battery cover bulge a bit. Battery life became a big problem at the end... turn on 3G and I could watch the battery percentage go down before my eyes.
I bought a battery (http://www.mugen-power-batteries.co...xtended-replacement-battery-for-htc-hero.html) from Mugen's outlet store (which now seems to be gone?)
The new battery is great. It is at least as good as the original but probably better. The new battery has approx 200mAh more capacity.
I can get at least 1.5 - 2 days with 3G/wifi on all the time. I don't let twitter or facebook or whatever sync all the time though.
Battery holding out real well
I am using the Elelinux 7.1 Custom and it feels like the Battery life has improved. it ist holding out almost 2 and a half day, with 3g on during the day.
I can't remember the battery lasting longer than that but of course shorter. tried a senserom once Hero lived about 24 h.
I am expecting somehow the battery to crash soon I am using him since 2.5 years.
We will see.
I have just bought a new battery for my phone but it still dorps to 45% from the 8 in the morn till 23PM. Old one didn't make it till the night.
Average use. Half an hour calls, all time data network connection at hsdpa. 2 email accounts + gmail and facebook syncing.
I charge my hero every night save in exceptional cases, use the 3G connection when away from home and wi fi when they are, I surf on the internet enough and i play with games sometimes!
I think it's okay
i can use it fro an entire day w/o the battery dropping below 30% so im very happy with it. I always load it when I'm at home
After 2 years my phones battery still doesn't drain that much energy. I can llast 2 days with my Hero with the ICS rom from Glassmacka [Ice Cream Sandwich for Hero
