memory card multiple access - Touch HD General

I can't access the memory card for more than one thing at a time?
eg GPS mapping files and playing an mp3. Both apps work fine but one won't access it's file, music playing, memory map starts but can't open map file.
Any ideas?

Bump
Anyone had this?

Nope.
Which player are you using?
Worked for me with Mortplayer and MemoryMap.

tried straight from tf3d and windows media. I'd prefer to use tf3d but i will try something else and get back once I've restored my replacement which has just arrived after a broken "vibrator". Should have done that 1st, i suspect it's probably just manila being it's usual fussy self.
Ta

Magic! they sent a class 6 8gb card with my replacement phone (vibrate now working) and voilà can do more than one thing at once (not what my wife says though!). Tried other class 2 card which now works, suspect phone maybe.
Thanks for posting
EDIT: Scratch that, memorymap works fine until i use any storage card file then can't read the map files on next use. Annoying, more investigation to be done.
EDIT: I'm a div, map i was using was a merge of two maps and too big evidently. One map at a time works a treat. See you when the next dutty rom's out, me and the do are off to test it! If someone could let my wife know, i don't think she notices i'm here since my head's been buried in my HD (i tell her it's magical! She just ignores me)

storage card nuked wihtout warning

i just got my storage card nuked and i think it was by "save attachments on storage card" .. its cleanswept except for some attachment dir and a WMDRM dir.. anyone experienced this before?
Im curious if there is a way to save my storage card like file recovery for windows!?!? I've had smartphone for 2 years and never experienced such (nor used the mail portion) .. its really a drag if this is normal wm5 behavior.
anyways two questions:
- is a way to generally clone a qtek9100 with all regs and storage
- is there a way to recover lost files if nothing else is written to car? (so called quick formats)

Backup apps:
SPB Backup - www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en
Sunnysoft Backup Manager - www.sunnysoft.cz/en_clanek.php?clanekid=51
Sprite Backup - www.spritesoftware.com/pocketpc.php
Or, otherwise, copy all files over, and export the registry using Tascal Registry Editor or so. Restoring would likely be iffy, though.. e.g. overwriting the Pocket Outlook database and such - if it can be done.

Yes - there's dedicated software for this. I got one from Sandisk that came with their 1GB Ultra III compactflash card that I've got in my camera next to a 2GB memorystick.
http://www.lc-tech.com/software/rprowindetail.html
as for the nuking, I assume now it was something todo with windows mediea player and device syncronization which hadnt fully initiated ..
anyways, when you tlak of recovery what do you mean, as the link you post leads to pc software.
u put sd card in camera and mount as usb and run pc software to recover?
sprite backup seems to be very nice and feature rich.
I just had the exact same thing happen to me...was just left with the attachments directory.
The good news is that the SD card shows that there is 250MB used so i know the files are there...i just cant see them. I'm trying that SD program referenced in the last post to see if i can at least see the files.
Unfortunately, all my backups are on the SD card itself. I hadnt copied them to my HD.
wow, this is nuts - there's some serious bug lurking around!
Update on this.
I was able to recover the files with some data recovery tools. The one in this thread is useless - its meant for media files only.
I still wonder why this happened. Either way, I'm switching back Outlook attachments to main memory for a bit and see what happens.
d'oh
Well, let us know which data recovery tool you used - might come in handy for others
yup same thing happened to me... and same way, attachments on storage card
space was still missing but the files were too
didnt bother recovering though as i had backups luckily
The same happened to me twice! The first time I thought it was due to FAT FS, so i reformated it with FAT32, but it happened again.
I do have my attachements at SD, as well as I save pictures from camera to it.
BTW, the same thing happened once with my wife's iPaq 2490 (attachement at SD).
As for fixing: just use standard MS Windows checkdsk (or use Check now from drive options) if you have a card reader. It saves all files to FOUND directory (but, unfortunately, it renames it to strange names, so you'll have to find out what is what)
If this happens to you, FinalData Enterprise and EasyRecovery Pro are known to recover files very well. They will find all files and filenames. They wont restore the top level folder names but if you dont have many, you can change them yourself. More important to me were the lower level filenames and the integrity of those files.
Most of the other trial recovery programs i used couldnt do what these two products could. They typically just showed a bunch of .chk files or else tried to recover media files only.
I still want to know how this happened and if there's a way to replicate the problem. There's some nasty Outlook bug lurking around that needs to be fixed!
same thing happened to me. just realised that i have 300 meg os missing disk space that i thought had gone for ever.
can anyone recommend a freeware tool ?
Wait, my new 2gb card died 2 days ago! The Wizard won't even find it, and my PC finds it, but all the stuff on it is missing except for a couple of directories and it won't let me format it. It has to go back to China now. I'm so pissed off.
Anyone know a card recovery app?
I know the ones i mentioned earlier should work.
Someone said chkdsk may work...try that although i worry that if it recovers cross linked files (most of them are), it'll dump a bunch of useless chk files on the card.
i tried checkdisk and it didn't seem to retrieve any files. grrrrrrrrr.
Well maybe it s a bug which occurs on march 14.... because that same thing occured to my sd yesterday while I was using tt5 on the road... ;(

I'd choose SPB Backup. According to my knowledge the WM5 compatible version of Sprite Backup does not have the self extracting functionallity yet. (weird because that among other features made Sprite Backup stand tall above all other backup/clone solutions).
Hope they will include this self extracting feature soon.
2 GIG Mini SD Speed
Just got mine from Singapore yesterday. I did not format it as it came already formatted. I have noticed that playing video divx / mpg1's are very slow versus internal memory. I did the reg edits for cache size but found no real changes to media playback. Anyone out there playing with media playback on a Cingular 8125?

From experiance with this same issue on a 1gb, the card eventually starts having block failures. Fortunatly the place I bought it replaced it with another. Whatever nukes it, perminatly damaged mine. Hope in your case it didn't damage it.
I'm wondering if this is related to the reboot issue some of us are experiancing... and if it has something to do with pocket outlook or pocket windows media player 10.
Grey
Block failures are a hardware fault.
The only way you could induce one with software would be to rewrite the same location more than ~1m times, which would cause it to fail - flash has a limited lifetime, although the limit is very high.
So let me get this straight:
REGARDLESS of the BRAND of the miniSD card, the Wizard HAVE an ISSUE whereby, if MEssaging Attachement is saved to the card, the device CAN RANDOMLY nuke the card?
I haave the same issue with my ATP miniSD card (and they're considered one of the most reliable one), but instead of nuking it, it just doesn't show the file OR...worst... rename the card to "Storage CArd 2".
Depends on what people are running into.
If you're getting a corrupted card BUT you can reformat it, then it may be something with the storage card attachment thing. (I personally run with this turned on and have NOT had it happen)
If, however, the card CANNOT be reformatted - that is, its TOAST - then its NOT a software problem. The card has physically failed. Since the 2GB cards are quite new, this is entirely possible.
One other possibility - if you have a card that won't reformat first try writing a few kilobytes of zeros to it using psdwrite. If you can THEN reformat it, then the card was scrambled - it did not die.
Using "r2sd" to dump ROM images to the card has been known to interfere with reformatting to full capacity due to the internal data patterns that show up in certain places with certain ROMs. Writing a block of zeros to the front of the card will fix this, as it will wipe the data that is being misinterpreted.

Copying large files to the microdrive

Has anybody else had an issue with trying to get large files onto the microdrive?
By large, I'm talking on the order of over 1gb.
Using the default route, of course activesync gets into the mix and has to get its grubby little paws onto the file to see if it needs conversion. It doesn't. But I can start the copy process (from my computer hard disk) and it will never stop and there is no progress on the progress bar.
I've also tried using wm5storage but also had no luck.
At this point I may have to find a large miniSD card and just copy files directly to that using a card reader and then insert that into my x7501.

I had copied 3.8 GB size files using wm5torage without problem. The only thing you have to be aware is that the latest wm5torage posted on modaco is buggy, and would drop out before you could finish copy. After testing it for a while, I went 2 version back, and it works everytime, perfectly. The drawback of this application is sometimes it is difficult to get it working, if you have other programs or plugins running. The way to overcome it is to do a soft reset then run wm5torage (old version only, remember). You must have activesync installed on your pc.
I had also tried card export II. However, this application is still a little strange, in that sometimes it wants you to reinstall it again and again. But once reinstalled, I could use it. The advantage of this application is that, once you have reinstalled it (although you have already installed it!), your pc need not have activesync, and you don't need to worry about the other programs or plugins.
Hope this helps.

I do tranfer 2 or 3 700-750Mb avi files at the same time via AS. No problems at all. After each file, it pauses as if to cache, then starts loading/transferring to microdrive. Sometimes the pauses last up to a minute or more. I used to worry before. Now I just leave it, go do something else and its copying by the time I get back. it's not the same as 1 huge file but...........
I hope this helps.
I use Resco Exporer to map a drive from my desktop and pull files down over wifi. This seems to be more reliable than AS.

X1 Calamity

Well. For some reason after using my X1 for the whole day without a hitch. I decided to give my phone a reboot at night and strangely it starts up and as soon as it hits the Today screen it just hangs and doesn't load at all.
So I try everything to removing the microsd and wow! It starts up and loads fine!
I haven't added anything on to my microsd recently and I've always been able to reboot my X1 with the microsd in it without any problem.
Any one got an idea on what is going on?
edit:
I just found out my recently called list has decided to not show names for all of my calls even though they're in the phonebook. Another issue. But hoping it could be solved without the need for another thread.
did you format your card before you used it, i didnt and it cost me my card
Well my card has always worked so I didn't see the need to format it. It was readable on my computer..
same here but then it just stopped working 2 days ago
it could be a factory defective card... try with a new card. if it happens again, start to worry
there's no reason for the X1 to kill a card if don't "format" it...
is there a 2577 folder?
Anything set to use the Card for example
PIE or opera cache?
Did you install any software (or make any changes) during the course of the day? Some software will store settings on the Card even if you don't install there.
What do you have in /windows/startup
Nope there isn't a 2577 folder.
I don't think there is anything set to use the card. Maybe only the messaging app for storing my email attachments but maybe that's all.
My startup contains:
AutoShortcut (not sure what that is to be honest)
Paneldefault
Panelmanager
Poutlook
SignatureReply(not sure about this too)

Phone freezes when I navigate to the music tab

Hi All,
I have a new TMOUS HD2 with the stock rom. I've flashed HSPL and I've added a few tweaks such as landscae mode. Nothing too much for now.
Problem I'm having is that every time I navigate to the music player it seems to hang and I end up getting the "send to M$" notice and phone's locked up. Then I have to restart the phone again.
I have the music stored on my storage card under Music/Artist/Album/Song and I have about 4 gigs worth.
Any ideas to what this could be? Appreciate the help.

You flashed HSPL, but not a new rom?
I would start by putting just one or two mp3's on your phone's onboard storage, then pulling the card out, soft-resetting, and then seeing if your music tab finds and is able to play those couple of mp3's without locking up.
If it works fine then, you're probably experiencing the same issue many HD2 owners have been dealing with when accessing a large volume of files on the SD card. There's a number of suspected causes, mainly relating to the fact that the music (and documents) tab(s) index the whole contents of the card to find and catalog those types of files for quick use in the tabs. Therefore, a large number of files on the card seem to bog down not just those tabs but often the whole phone.
Another cause is believed to be the fact the factory card shipped with the HD2 is only a class-2 card, the slowest of all the speed ratings. If you have access to a faster card (class-4, -6, etc), even if it's a smaller size card, try that and see if it improves things any. If not, then your only other option right now is to reduce the number of files on your card until it doesn't lock up when sense tries to index it all. It's rumored that there's an update coming shortly from HTC/Tmobile, and I'm hoping that it might address this issue, but I'm not holding my breath.
I personally believe that the code used to do that indexing just isn't able to scale to the volumes of files seen now in the larger SD cards.
EDIT: Also, if you're not using it, be sure to turn off the "recent documents" tab...I don't know that it will clear up the problems with the music tab, but it can possibly help avoid lagging overall.
I can see what you mean about the indexing. Does it index each time the phone is rebooted or does it store the indexing in cache that's reused?

I honestly wish I knew
I've been trying hard to come up with a solution to this issue, and I'm afraid that's one of the unknowns that I'm struggling with...how/when exactly the process is triggered, and whether or not there's any cacheing. I suspect that it indexes (in some form anyway) much more often than every reboot, as you'll see if you delete a music file, and see how quickly the list in the music tab reflects that change.

Sirphunkee..I remember a while back when I first started reading this HD2 forum. Since before I was in the Wing Section. I read somewhere about copying a file to the startup in the windows folder. I cant remember exactly what file it was but it had to do with the music so when you woke the phone up it automatically started queing up the music that way when you went to click on the music tab it was already cached and ready to play?! I have yet to come across that thread again so that I could try it out?!

Ok cool, thank you! I hadn't heard about that one, so I'll go look for it and see if it gives me any insight. Did you have TF3D (the older version of sense) on your Wing, with a music tab? Maybe this is behavior that HTC added to sense at some point, with the same exact intent in mind...

Sweet! Thanks again Jimmy...I'm gonna dig into this when I get home this evening, and poke around in the registry area it changes (HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\HTCService).
I'm curious if it just does the same thing as turning off the documents tab, or if turning off the service is a wider-reaching change. Since this is the personal handiwork of NRG, I'll ping him too, but I know he's busy.
there are a number of possibilities (though i agree its likely to be the indexing)
don't use sync to copy the music, use disk mode, or put the sd in the comp
excessively long path\filename.mp3
extended set ASCII characters in the mp3 tags,,,
i'd copy over a few dozen albums at a time, see if there's a noticeable point which problems start.
also some connected reading here

Hahaha thanks Sam...I JUST finished reading over the same thread LOL Very helpful, and it's given me some further insights into this.
toreone, the first think I noticed common to your problem and the one in the thread samsamuel posted is that your music has a rather deep file structure (4 layers deep). I haven't seen anybody mention that in the troubleshooting, so it might be worth seeing if the same volume of music, but no more than 2 folders deep, still gives the same issue.
Also, in that thread, sammybusse made and posted the cab below, which makes simple registry change related to chacheing: HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory\FATFS
EnableChache 1 (changed from 0 to 1). So, perhaps the problem stems from the fact that it wasn't chacheing, rather than doing it too aggressively..
I haven't had a chance yet to poke around with it, but I think it's certainly safe enough to try and see if it makes any difference for you (it helped some people in that thread).
Another solution tried there, that had some level of success, was making sure you don't have any of the mp3's set as "read only"

Here you go I created a shortcut and made a cab to put it in start up. Let me know how it works

MR2 Update bugs, fixes, mods etc.

This thread is for those of you who have already got the MR2 update and would like to report any bugs, features etc. This thread will make it easier to follow up and find any similarities. Also to find fixes faster then digging through different threads.
Please DO NOT post "Oh I haven't gotten this patch yet","WTF it's not up yet","Installing it now" etc...
Please post anything you have noticed or would like to share about MR2 here.
I have the Swedish version of MR2, these are my observations.
(1) I noticed as well that when the device is waking up, the SD Card takes a second or 2 to show up. I am sure this has to do with power management. Now this causes a slight delay when you wake up the device and can be annoying if you are like me and want "Instant response". I stated already in another thread that I had applied the "SD Card Fix" that was created for MR1. Now there is no delay and thats the way I like it, the power consumption difference is not noticeable, so I am not concerned at all that it might use 0.0..something milliamps more power. Take note, that I did not suffer memory card missing or sudden data loss problems. It just took a while for the card to pop up after start up.
(2) The GPS problem with TomTom remains, I still need GPS Gate in order to use TomTom.
FIXED! See here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6494250&postcount=14
(3) The G Sensor problem remains, I cannot use any other apps apart from SE's that work with the G Sensor, very annoying!!!
This Java -> "Water Level" app works, so maybe some other ones might. But even that one is SE's. I will check more into it later.
(4) Visual LED notifications don't seem to turn on until you wake up the device, the audio alerts are instant though.
I will update as I find more, otherwise everything else(I have tested) on this device is faster now, including SMS typing via keyboard.
CAB for SD Card fix -> http://rapidshare.com/files/389695879/X2_SDFix.cab
EDIT:
Please note! I will no longer be working on trying to fix any bugs on the X2.
I'm sending it back and getting an X10 instead, so my efforts will shift over to Android now.
Perhaps down the road when they come up with a better OS or something, I will buy another X2. Until then, I hope others who have been helping out now will continue to do so.
Thanks for the clarification that the notification LED problem has still not been fixed. I'm afriad it might be time for me to say goodbye to my X2 as this was one of the reasons why I bought the device and if they still haven't fixed it now, it is unlikely they are ever going to.

I am sure there are more updates or fixes on the way.
Besides that, not many devices offer LED notification anyways.
Today was the first day my X2 has run superbly, I have not needed to install "Advanced Config Tool" or "SK Tools". No Stalls, no sluggish behaviour. Good battery life... I think it's on it's way to perfection. Now we only need HardSPL
im also dissapointed that theyve not bothered to fix the LED notifications. was one of the main reasons i stuck with SE. most SE phones have LED notification (which work), an immensly useful but simple feature. it worked fine on the X1. seems to be another casualty of their over zealous power management. the phone doesnt wake up when a text is received like the X1 used to. im sure someone clever can get the X2 behave as it should do either, their must be something in the registry that can be modified like the SD card fix..
^^ Yep, I am sure we can tweak this bad boy somehow...
But meanwhile.
To enable "Auto rotation"
Edit the following Registry Key. YOU WILL NEED A REGISTRY EDITOR! If you don't know what it is, don't bother with this! Just move along...
HKLM\Services\MultiService\mods\Rotation\AccelBasedRotationEnabled
Change value to "1"
This will help with many things including this -> TomTom!
To enable TomTom Rotation, go further down to AADRClients
(1) Add "New Key" Call it TomTom or whatever.
(2) In that key add new "String Value"
(3) Value name "ModuleFileName"
Value Data "\Storage Card\Program\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe"
(You will need to check your folders are the same, edit the text accordingly)
(4) Make sure it saved.
(5) Reboot device
(6) Start TomTom when it's loaded rotate your device left, viola!

Then i formated the card. installed the SDfix (its on this forum somewhere -> search) but i think its not everithing as it should be. the data did not get corrupred again but the micro SD sometimes is not visible in the file manager.
I also had some problems with total freezing of the phone (two times in 2 days time). that only happened when i was doing heavy usage on the camera and the picture viewing I guess the RAM got full ar something. then i deleted all the panells and the panelmanager to save some RAM. Ill let you know if it helps.

Mine is still running really well, really really well. No memory card issues or sluggishness so far. I hope it stays that way.

You also need to use a Registry Editor to do what mtechfan has recommended.

Yep, I guess I should have mentioned that
instead of hardSPL to flash custom roms has anyone tried to hack the sony update program?? if it could be fooled into thinking the custom firmware is the latest firmware then get it to install it onto the phone...
For those of you not in the KNOW.
TomTom will work without installing GPSGate.
On the X2 – go to Settings/System/External GPS and change GDP9 TO COM8.
Run FASTGPS and download the latest Sat Data.
Open TomTom and change the GPS Device from Built in GPS receiver to Other NMEA GPS receiver and select COM8.
Wait a few secons for the Receiver to kick in and away you go.....
ok,can some one to test video mode, record some video and see what is the frame rate in new MR2,is it still low? or is it better then 15fps

I guess you look for Storage Card in File Explorer? What I have seen is that because of the card delay mentioned earlier the card appears at the bottom of the folders/files list and not among the folders in alphabetic order, at least on my device. Can be worth a look even though you applied the card fix and i haven't.
Two flaws:
1.
Auto lock on, display blacked out
Listening to music via slideview
Phone rings (technically speaking)
The phone vibrates and perhaps play half ringtone or just not at all.
Without the music listening the phone rings as it should, using generic ringtone so far so no storage card error here I suppose.
2.
Listening to music via slideview. Songs stored at Storage card.
Media player plays one, two, three songs and halts in the middle of a song.
Going to try a different media player to see what happens. I have not installed any yet because my favourite player, Pocket Player appears to have some compatibility issues with winmo 6.5. I know of the memcard fix and will eventually try that as well.
Was thinking of a new thread, quite the opposite of this. A "what programs works on X2 MR2". haven't installed that much yet, perhaps someone else can start
SE contact reading chinese?
Can anyone confirm if the SE contacts (not the WinMo) in MR2 can read Chinese (after installing either new fonts or localization)?
Thanks!
so i changed from GENERIC_SG to GENERIC_UK, rather time consuming but worth it IMO, but down to the nitty gritty details.
I'm still in the process of personalising it (adding my ring tones, loading old sms's etc) but from first few things i've done the speed between screens is quite phenominal
Also by accident i just found that you can move icons around ALOT easier, . BIG bonus as it doesn't mean i have to scroll all the way to the botom to find my new apps. - to do this just press down on the icon (using stylus or finger) and move it to were ever you want it.
more feedback to follow
I think this thread lost its and the thread starters intentions long ago. Its sad since it could have been a great resource. Some moderation would be apritiated.
Thanks, A.D
