Good
Good find im deleting it right now... BTW it dosen't even work right

the fact that it doesn't work means it's working correctly
it's designed to **** up your phone, not to free any memory.

Despite the obviously villian nature of it. Ya gotta hand it to the developer, that is a pretty clever way of snaking tons and tons of valid email addresses for a spam list.
I had it installed before my phone died a few weeks ago. Although my SD card and contacts were not touched. It was kinda odd that my phone up and died out of the blue in the middle of the night shortly after installing this.

yea i saw that. is it really that serious that people have to make crap like that. that sucks for people that got stuff wiped and wutnot because of this.
i actually had that program......
ran it one time........
didnt notice any performance increase whatsoever..........
immediatly uninstalled, so i may have got lucky and got rid of it before it started its mayhem!

i gave it a try too... nothing happened, i just now deleted it. so its possibly a newer version that was added with the spam, etc.. but not the first one released.
i smell bs.

I like how he got a pic of RA's comment. lol

Wow, I thought I was the only one who got victimized. This app forced me to give up G1 and move back to WinMo.
Thanks

Good reason to a) read comments before installing an app, and b) subscribe to heaps of Android news feeds.

Starting to lose patience with my Hero

So, here is my story.
I have tried Fresh 1.1, and I found that I was getting may too many reboots both on the phone and on Sense for my liking.
So I switched to Modaco 2, and have been very happy for a while...
I just had yet another reboot.
I was listening to some music, when I had a notification for an email. Looked at the email, tried to lock my phone, then tried to unlock, and that's when the music went off, and my phone rebooted itself....
I'm really getting tired of this. I have not loaded any new apps in the past 2 days. I have minimal apps anyway (Facebook, Weatherbug, Handcent, NPR News, Touchdown, Power Manager and Droidswap, that is it)
does anyone have any history of problems with Droidswap ?
I'm really getting frustrated. I hate when this happens, and I'm giving realy consideration into curtailing my brief incursion onto Android and returning back to the iphone....which is a real shame, as I f**king hate ATT
I would recommend taking your phone back to the store. I have not have had one unplanned reboot the entire time I've had my Hero (bought on release date Oct 9). I'm running Fresh 1.1 now, and had 1.0 previously. There is something seriously wrong with your phone.
I have no problem speaking for the entire android community when I say...
"its been nice knowing you, good luck with the iPhone and att"
Honestly...I have never had a full reboot on its own.
I have seen Sense close out and have to reload usually after I play an intensive game, racing or something like that with alot of graphics. I assume it just runs out of ram and does its thing to get resources back.
That's a rare occasion there's not much people that it has happened to from what I seen. Did u try to wipe your phone and cache & whatnot, do some of that and see what happens
(off topic)

Bronx,
Myself and many other members of this site and over at modaco's site have given advise on this issue. Griff insulted flipz and other devs in the fresh Rom thread, then went to modaco and started talking trash on the devs here.
Every post is about this reboot problem, that no one can seem to replicate.
I apologize for being rude but if someone doesn't take any of the advise given, then continues to clutter up the forums with new threads about the same thing it ticks me off...
Try TTG. It's made a world of difference for me.

The advice he should be taking is to STOP LOADING APPS.
Out of the apps he has listed, I only use Facebook and Handcent SMS... so I'm willing to vouch for those two as not being the culprit. If he hasn't done a wipe and tried running with minimal apps, then the problem is his own fault.
some people just arn't made for android, and apple's buisness model is "you're too dumb to want to do that" actually applies to some people
EDIT: and there is nothing and I mean NOTHING in the world that gives me more of a nerd-boner than someone "rage-quitting" it puts a beautiful smell in the air... the smell of victory

I haven't got lots of apps loaded.
And I have gone back to stock, wiped, formatted my SD card many times...etc...etc.
All I am saying is that I am experiencing completely random reboots, and I'm desperate to hear if anyone else is.
This dudejdog or whatever he likes to call himself is plain wrong. I have never, and never will trash anyone. I urge him to prove if I have.
Guys, please, I am not into flaming anyone. I paid my subs to Modaco to get his ROM for chrissake.
ALL I am saying is that I am having issues with reboots of sense and phone when running modded ROMS.
I DO NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH STOCK.
That's my bottom line here...I do not have issues with stock.
I am going to run stock with all my normal apps for at least a week now to see what happens. I may be back to the boards at a later date because I don't want to give up on this phone.

Did you try removing any partitions you might have set up (for Apps2SD or swapfiles)...just an idea, simply reformatting your SD card will NOT delete partitions.

Okay...you said you've gone back to stock. When you go back to stock without any other programs loaded, are you still experiencing the issue?
If not, what I suggest is to load each of your programs one at a time, pausing after you load them for at least 12 hours to see if the reboot occurs. I know that's a time consuming process, but it may help to isolate.
If you are having reboot issues with no additional applications loaded and while you are using the stock ROM, I think there maybe something wrong with the hardware and you should take it back to Sprint for replacement.
Hopefully this helps, or at least points you in a direction to go.

When you return, let us know your results and we'll try to help you. I'm thinking it is an application. I had this issue when I tried to update the Superuser Permission program. When it tried to update from Android Marketplace, it would reboot the phone (I actually saw "System crash is inevitable" in the trace log when it tried to update the program).
If you don't mind me asking, what version of the Stock ROM are you using? I did have issues when I was running a custom ROM (Modaco) running 1.29 and tried to upgrade to a custom ROM (again, Modaco) with 1.56. My issue was force close issues that I could not fix. The solution was to revert back to stock, let the OTA update upgrade the phone, reroot and apply the new Modaco ROM.
I understand this isn't a force close issue, but your problem may be similar in nature.

How do I check for partitions ? I thought formatting would get rid of that ?
I remember partitioning a while back, but I have since formatted, and presumed that would have cleared it ?
I'm not back to Stock 1.56.651.2 build CL85027
I took a chance and re-installed pretty much every application I had previously, apart from the obvious rooted apps like droidswap and cachemate.
It's looking fairly stable for now, but I'll report back over the next few days to see how it goes.
I have to say, I've not once slated anyone on this forum. I have total respect for Flipz and I paid Modaco the subs to try his 2.0 beta and then the release. I really would like to use the rooted ROMS, but right now, I just want to see why my phone is doing what it's doing...

As jdog says in a few posts below the one I'm quoting... I have done everything I can to try and help him. I have directly worked with him. Along with a ton of other members on this forum. He chose to go to modaco and say that it fixed all his problems and trash fresh. Now here he is saying he's having the same problems.... again.
Edit: With the hard reboots you are getting, I honestly think you need to go exchange your phone.

[Q] Ongoing downloads........

This may be a little trivial, but it has been driving me crazy since day one. I have posted in other forums, but not one person seems to have this issue I guess. Anyway, I was downloading an app from the market when my battery door came off. Now that app continues to try and download even though it's already installed. I've tried uninstalling, refunding and nothing works. It's always in the status bar every couple of minutes. I don't want to flash another build to get rid of it just for that reason. Anyone???
I remember reading something about cleaning The market cache internally.

2.2 root exploit suggestion!!

Ok, so I was going a lot of playing around with my phone last night. On the scale of hacking, I am not even in the same realm as the skilled folks here. I tinker with things now and then... and sometimes I get ideas... like now.
So, my EVO is setup to work with my corp exchange server for work emails. I noticed that under Settings / Security / Select Device Administrators, the exchange security policy is in there. This section also seems to suggest that you can "add / remove" but it appears to only allow removal from the UI.
Then I got to some more thinking... an app essentially installed itself and granted itself this right. Why cant we study what that app is doing a do something similar? Or at a minimum, exploit those very roles that are already there on the device?
Am I even thinking along the right lines? Or am I way off?
Makes sense to me but I'm also a novice but good contribution dude. Maybe it could get the ball rolling on this thing.

heck yeah, cause it's long overdue. You even mention 2.2 root in here, and you get barked at like you're in "The Village" and that is "the thing of which we don't speak." LOL
Well, frankly, it's the only reason I check XDA daily: to see if someone finally rooted 2.2, so like it or not, it's gonna be what many people are waiting for....
So, way to go on the idea. This at least gives hope that we are still looking for an exploit.

Come on, you know that's not true. The reason people get crap for asking about rooting 2.2 is that the info and answers are all already here on the front pages.
But I like that people are still thinking and suggesting like the OP. That's how things are going to keep moving.
Side note: My Evo just spell-corrected "crap" to "veal." It was like an Easter egg or something.
now we just need a hacker
So... thanks for the chime-ins on the idea. I thought it was a good one too. I am curious now to see what one of the big hackers has to say about it. Knowing my luck, it would be a squashed dream.

Just had an idea ( warning I am a noob.) So the previews exploit was found by running flash. If any developer can create an app and install the old flash to allow the old exploit. Then this will allow us to flash.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but I'm pretty sure this is mostly related to corporate security so that IT can lock the phone down even more than carriers/manufacturers do. Think stuff like not being able to install apps, email restrictions, password management, etc.
Breaking this security feature will at most give you the access non-corporate users enjoy with their unrooted phones.
I'm sure there are plenty of dev's looking for exploits on a daily basis. No need to get peoples hopes up early is why there isn't much talk about it. Same reason people get dumped on for asking on a daily basis. If there was one found already it would be posted so quit asking sort of issue.
I like the thoughts though.

To further derail this thread, this "easter egg" is actually a feature from Google, the reasoning being that is probably better to send a nonsensical word over a swear word in case you didn't actually mean to write the swear word.

Sorry... I hate to be off topic, but this sparked a memory. I was sending my wife a txt a couple weeks ago and I can't remember the word I was typing, but it was definitely a legitimate word--no reason for Android to mess with it anyway. It effectively turned that word into "gay"...go figure.
Like sk63 said, that just relates to the Exchange admin role. Nothing to do with root access on the device.

So, for the point about exchange administration... I am aware of what it is used for... since I myself am a user of it. My point was that it has administrative power over the phone since it can perform a wipe (among other highly privileged tasks)... so the idea was to try and use that system somehow to exploit.
I also liked the thinking behind installing old flash. That is at least a good question. One that I would love to hear the answer to.

Android Market = waste of money

I am really starting to dislike the Android Market lately, with the exception of games..... 9 of the last 10 apps i have paid for from the market, didnt work. I know its really not the Markets fault, but i have never felt so ripped off in my life. All these "Devs" creating these apps and charging people, and the **** doesnt even work right. It feels like they dont even care, they are just wanting to make a quick few bucks. Hell i even bought a app from a BIG name Dev, all the "PRO" features didnt work. sorry about the rant, but its really starting to piss me off!..... lol ( i will leave the name of the Dev and the app annonymous for now, to give him time to reply to my emails, if i get no reply i will share the name with you all, maybe on a forum with such a community as ours, he will get the point, and do something about it)
I've had a complete opposite experience to you since first using the android market in 2010. Devs are amazing and respond to emails and requests. Applications work 95% of the time.
You do get 15 minutes to test the app in which time you can easily get a full refund. I know it's not a lot of time to thoroughly test, but it helps
same, i've had nothing but good experiances with the market place. make sure you read the comments and see that its popular before you buy it.
Admitedly, I preferred when it was a 24 hour trial period. Android market was superb back then
15 minutes is usually more than enough. It's only not ok when you buy a game that requires a huge download after installing it. Though those games usually have a check on first opening that checks compatibility. Not perfect but better than leading you on with a 30 minute download and then finding out that your phone is not compatible

READ THE COMMENTS.

Just do your research on the application running on your phone. Reading the comments is usually a great start. People frequently say things like "app is amazing on my xperia play" or "F**k you dev you suck l3rn to c0ad. Xperia play"
Sometimes you don't even what to expect in the future if a dev just quits on updating his apps or it gets removed from the market.

Yeah, I use a lot of this particular devs other apps, thats what made me decide to finally go pro with one, i had the no pro and loved it, and the one thing i wanted from the pro version i cant get to work. oh, well the rest will come in handy if i ever decide to unlock BL, but then again i will run into the license issue with the app if i put it on a custom rom, but im sure the dev has work arounds for that already.
EDIT - I feel like an a**hole... after a data/cache wipe in CWM and a nandroid recover, the app is for the most part working now.

Whaaat? If I was making money, I would be doing it to buy things and keep myself alive, not to play of Ireland or The European Union's debts.
Why don't you install app, titanium backup then remove app? After you install again just turn off its updates and net connection via ur app manager. Try it longer then buy it.
I rarely buy apps that don't have a demo, and when I do they work fine.
Always read the comments before committing to buy anything. And when you do buy, try quickly then you have that 15 min window to refund (which I think iTunes doesn't have).
I've only ever had one problem with a paid app where an update messed it up. I contacted the developer and he sent me the apk of the previous version.
Personally I'm happy with the devs on android, one had nothing but great service
brought to you by the XDA app on my badass Android toy
I finaly got a reply from the dev, all he really said is it was recently updated, try installing the update, but i bought it after the update so its already the updated one, then he said, they wil be continuosly updating it so, basically just suck it up and when it works it works, if not too bad. (not exactly in those words, but thats the impression i got) So anyways, i figured out why it wasnt working on my own though, I had a theme that was using icons other than stock ones, so when the app was replacing icons, it was replacing the stock ones, not the ones the system was actually using. So i ended up, reverting back to stock ROM, then using UOT and creating my whole own them.... and it was FREE! Nowi have my cool ass purple theme.

Rooted PG5

So I have seen a few people saying they are rooted on PG5. Can those of you that have done it please post how it has worked out for you? Thanks.
MOD EDIT:
Questions belong in the Help section, not How-To. I've moved your thread there.

I'm on PG5. I rooted about 10 days ago. After applying all the fixes, it is working ok. Fighting 2 issues. (1). Still getting update notifications every day. (2). Seems like I lost my wireless fast charging capability. I'm going to make some changes tonight and see if that fixes anything. I've learned a lot more about the phone, had some fun rooting it, but haven't really gained much if anything.

You need to disable system updates with package disabler pro or something like that and the updates should stop
I can't recall if I was on PH1 or PG5 when I rooted. I got lucky found a cosmetically damaged SM-G930V early Sept and remember seeing the update requesting install when I met the seller. I did update then root im just not sure to what lol. I used the G930x_QC_Rooted_BOOT.TAR and after pushing SU with ADB she needed very little optimization ie: BusyBox, TricksterMOD, BuildProp & TiB in that order. I had a few obvious issues at 1st but the phone seemed to get quicker & cooler the more i used it overall. The biggest problem I've had so far is getting the adoptable storage feature to stick. Which has nothing to do with root so moving on. All and all I'd have to give the experience 2 thumbs up. Also if you screw up one of your protected partitions like i did you can always use the Verizon Update/Repair Assitant to save your phone. Provided youve registered that phone with Verizon prior to ahem, "messing up" The tool doesnt seem to have a download link its suppose to PuP when you conect phone If it doesnt they have link to the Samsung site where you can DL. Ive since switched to one of the debloated custom ROMs and I guess I never really knew what fast really was because there was this moment when i opened up the recents and i had like 40+ pages open. Scrolling was so beautifully liquid smooth and crystal clear and lightning fast I got a lump in my throat fellas. SHE doesnt slow down! I gotta drink a redbull just to get on my phone!
