Looking for: Good VGA music player, utils, etc. - XPERIA X1 General

I'm looking for, firstly, anything free. That said, I specifically have looked for and not found:
-a good VGA music player (or something that can be forced into VGA)
-any good utils
-anything to boost wifi abilities (already got enablewlang.cab mod)
-anything else you think is good that isn't mentioned in the Xperia mods topic.
Thanks

you've looked for a good VGA music player and haven't found one? Have you actually tried a search?
The best one is S2P it's available on this forum. there's also mortplayer, GSPlayer etc
or even a list of them here!

Multimedia (software and settings) @ Wizard

Hi All
Hope you can help me - few quick questions about music & video on Wizard:
- what software can you recommend to listen to the music?
Please add info about price, version and supported formats of the software.
- what software can you recommend to watch the movies / clips?
As above...
- what is recommended and best format to store and to listen the music on Wizard? (file format, sample rate etc)
- what is recommended and best format to store and to watch the video / clips in full screen mode? (file format, resolution etc)
- what PC (workstation) software do you use to convert audio / video to the desirable formats?
- any advice about: how to effectively organise and store MM files or any feedback about best software to manage and format the memory card?
I know I can find almost all of the answers on the forum but they are in separate topics and your opinions are hard to compare, analyse and organise...
I think it could be interesting not only for me.
Thanks in advance
The best software for viewing video is TCPMP.
http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about
By the way - it is free.
I agree, TCMP is a safe bet, it can play about anything and it's free. As for encoding, I guess PocketDivXEncoder (http://divx.ppccool.com) is as good as it gets (also free...) But you can also use VirtualDub or windows media encoder. The good thing about PocketDivXEncoder is that it's very user friendly and the output is really optimized for the ppc
Thanks!
Thanks Guys!
TCPMP (with few extra codecs) is really great!
I can say exactly the same about PocketDivXEncoder - really handy and user friendly, re/scalling - cutting only choosen area from the source - recoding is working perfect! You'd understand my enthusiasm if I tell you that I used to use few command-line tools for WinXP/Linux... It was a little bit faster but simply nightmare
Any other comment or advice?
Is anybody there?
Cheers

Applications

Hi guys,
Where could I download applications to add to my cruise please ? (.cab)
Any good website / forum for this ?
This one is probably you're best bet, search bar is in the top right hand corner
oh ok, you mean we can find applications here too right ?
if that's the case, it's nice
It depends what your looking for, alot of the guys on here develop their own. Are you looking for anything in particular?
Yeah, I'm looking for a fix concerning the camera, because it seems laggy.. I mean, it's hard to take a proper picture with the cruise's camera.
This, and I would like something to read video files.. something better than windows media player..

this is a known issue for which there is currently no fix. you can read about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359991.
for a better media player, google search for core player, which is shareware, or tcpmp which is an earlier released freeware version. it's what i use...
Yeah the video lag in the camera is a known issue, there are some hacks out there such as covering it with your hand, turning it on and off, but it's pretty much low light conditions that cause it.
As for video, coreplayer is good as mentioned by the previous poster, however it's not shareware. It's a product that has to be purchased. It does have a Qtv option for the Cruise which enables it to play back video smoothly. TCPMP as mentioned is freeware.
cheers guys

WM 6.1 ROM - A Good Media Player?

Hello,
I just purchased a Mogul. My first task was to apply the official Sprint WM6.1 update, which applied with no trouble.
I am now looking for a media player that will play videos I have converted for an Ipod Touch. Windows Media player does not do it. So I tried a version of TCPMP for WM, but it won't even come up.
So I bit the bullet and purchased a licensed copy of the CorePlayer. This is supposed to be the best their is, but it freezes up when I play most video files, including simple MPEG1 files. I suspect it has not been tested extensively on WM6.1
So .. is there any other media player I can try?
There is a new version of TCPMP posted here on the forum - with source code. You need to get that and you also need to extract 2 DLLs from WM5 into you windows directory. This will allow you to play all wma files (otherwise TCPMP won't even see them). If you can't find either of these files, let me know and I'll post links to them sometime in the next couple days.
ALSO, you will need to customize TCPMP to set the buffer settings that work best on your phone. In general the phones are a step back from pure PDAs like a circa 2005 Toshibe e750, but you can get them to play without skipping if you balance them right and/or select low quality playback in TCPMP.
TCPMP is nice, but after trying Core I stuck with that. I like the more refined look, and the equalizer has a few more sliders.
Both are great though.

I'll willingly purchase but would love to first see a full listing of the changes to see what I am getting for my buck. Have you seen any comparisons or could you do a fuller review yourself?

Where can i find those 2 dll files? i've installed the correct version which works on 6.1 but the movies i've played, skipped... Do anyone have an idea what i can do, so that the movies played correct? What settings do i have to change?
well this costs 20.00 but i truly think it is, hands down, the best audio player you will get (not best video) but for audio it is extremely nice. http://www.conduits.com/news/pr20080820.html

Yeah but the interface is not drawn for VGA resolution, the whole menu looks pixelated and crap.
The best, I would beg to differ.
does it support divx?

HAHA, on my mogul, it was a really cool program, now that I'm getting the diamond, I guess it's not all that hot anymore
Think Core player is the one to have.
Its plays almost all popular files.... except rmvb.
Sorry wrong place, too much windows opened!
native VGA support would help me to buy this wonderful player immediately.
Felt Core Player much much better..

Kinoma Play supports MPEG-4 Video SP and AVC/H.264 codecs, 3GPP (same as MPEG-4), Flash Video (Sorenson Spark codec), QuickTime Movie (same as MPEG-4) and Windows Media 9 (WMV9 codec) video formats. For streaming, Kinoma Play supports HTTP, RTSP, and MMS streaming.
doesn't seem like it
Works only in full version!
OK and what about performance...it doesnt support QTV so Im interested about smoothness of playing standart unconverted *.avi videos...

Your right, I posted this thread before I had tried it on my Diamond, it looked awesome on my Hermes in its native resolution but on the Diamond, it looks pants. I'll wait for a true VGA version before I purchase this, the free one will do for now.
i downloaded the software by the link given in the first post, but when i start the player it wants to register. thought this was a free version ?!
Core Player vs. Kinoma Player
I do find that core player is an all in one package for almost all video formats. Though Kinoma is very good looking though not in VGA, core player is still the best so far.
Hope they could tweak it a bit further for it to utilize the built-in GFX accelerator ................... a wish that may not come true soooooon
Isn't this the old palm app, I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure my kids have this on their zodiack tapwaves (nice machine in it's day, great spec.) . Core player with diamond skin is unbeatable.
Streaming files present on PC
Hi all,
Can I with Kinoma listen to music and video present in my personnal computer?
I'am looking for this type of application (like Simplifymedia for Iphone)
Thanks
I have to say, though, I am really digging the built in Orb client on Kinoma.
"Can I with Kinoma listen to music and video present in my personnal computer?

Yes, it has a nice built-in Orb client.
More “finger-friendly” for phones with hi-resolution (VGA+) screens, including the HTC Touch Diamond
see, VGA resolution.
impossible to use Kinoma Freeplay
I downloaded the Kinoma Freeplay (do I need the full version : Kinoma play), I've installed it, and I lunch it, it ask for a product registration. I was thinking that the Freeplay version was free?
What I need to do?
Thanks

Audio Player Features

Hello,
I have been searching ... but I have had no luck finding an audio program that can do the following:
1) FAST audio playback (like TCPMP)
2) Bluetooth Control (PAUSE/PLAY, Forward, Backward (like windows Media Player)
3) Can continue to play with the SCREEN OFF (Like TCPMP)
Any Suggestions?
Thank you for your time

Mortplayer http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=download&entry=mp_program&action=list
I highly recommend the cleanglass and darkglass skins http://www.sto-helit.de/downloads/pocketpc/mp-skins/
Thanks for suggesting mortplayer...
Settings are odd, but you get used to it after a bit.
I see that the display shuts off, and that the headset controls work, which is great!!!
However is there some sort of plugin that I need in order to change the playback speed?
I cant seem to find the setting.
oh and the darkglass skin is cool.
thanks again

Sorry, I misunderstood the "fast"request. The only other program that I'm aware of that will allow playback speed adjustment is Coreplayer, though it's not a feature that I would seek out myself. TCPMP was the beta/development tool for Core. Core has a much richer feature set compared to TCPMP. Core isn't free and in my way less than scientific study, it used about 2X the memory when playing audio files when compared to Mort. It's also a great all around video player with decent built in (no browser needed) youtube support.
Purchased Coreplayer V1.3.0 build 6213
Initially I had a heck of time with stability issues.
After at least 20 lockups, I found that everything became more stable if I just disabled anything that had to do with the internet / youtube / and the Library Functionality.
It is a bit of a hog.
....the Iconics are non-intuitive,
....in order to sort a playlist by filename you have to disable the library
But at least I can now do the (3) items I originally asked for.
Thanks for your help
qu1nn
I'm still using 1.2.1 and have no stability issues that I'm aware of. I'm going to upgrade later to see if I have similar issues. If Core was a little lighter on ram, I wouldn't bother with Mort at all.

You can actually enable the unattended play feature in WMP by changing the value of
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Media Player\Preferences\UnattendedPlayback
from (decimal) 0 to 1.
Now you just need a plugin to speed up playback so you can ditch CORE like I did (yes, they suckered me into paying for it too).
Hope that helped!
