[FIX] WirelessNotifyOff -- Disable FUZE's Wireless Notification Popup - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

In the long tradition of KaiserSimFix, here's something for the broken Wireless Networks detected pop-up in the OEM AT&T FUZE rom that is hardcoded to ON after each soft-reset.
Install the cab and it will install the program into the right places to auto-start it after each soft-reset. You are also given the option of running it immediately.
I acknowledge that chetstriker did it first Nov/2008 in his thread, but mine does all the installation work for you, is coded in C optimized for ARMv5T, exe compressed, and takes less storage.
Takes 11K of storage and 1K of ram.

Thanks for the mention. I'm glad you added it as a .cab I just never got around to it.

Thanks for being nice after I stepped on yours. I actually created the fix right before I found your thread.. ^_^;
I also added you into the Wiki for this fix, since the Wiki was saying there's no known fix, and you've fixed it a while already.

hi there, i have the same annoying issue with the tough3g after every soft reset. can i use this cab file on my device too?
thanks

tried it and it worked on the HTC touch 3g!

Thanks!!!
This tool is also working for me!

WM5.o Compatible close button needed!

has anybody come across a one button close all application for WM5.0? Spb 3.0.1 is too slow on WM5 and Wisbar Advance 2.4.....is also too much for what is needed. Something like Magicbutton but written for WM5.0 would br nice, nothing that requires much memory, but something that enables the closing of running apps without having to go into start/settings/system/memory...etc.
Wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft had just written in that piece of code, as they are well aware that since PPC2000, that every application opened, remains so unless you manually close it down in memory (therefore hogging memory resources!)
Well if anyone knows of a WM specific solution, please do share.

I added couple files which they are usefull for you and they include the closeall app.
Install the cab files you'll see the close all, Reset and Running programs, which they can be clicked from the systray directly, after the installation they require a soft reset or else you go to Start>Programs>System open TrayLaunch and press Enable
GSPocketMagic++ is the most stable program I've tried. You need to put some amended bitmaps in to get it to integrate with WM5 but it works well...

Thanks guys. I'll try them both and let you know how I get on.

sub69: I don't know what kind of coding they used in that software you recommended, but it has boosted refresh rates and performance in general by at least 30%!! I know this sounds crazy but it's true! My opinion has completely changed about the speed of the Jasjar. It seriously Rocks! I couldn't care less if it doesn't stay this way, because it shows me conclusively, that future ROMs' will probably address the issues I have had thus far.
I needed this. Thanks a bunch sub69; best link I've had with regards to Universal software.
OK 1 gripe only: I've lost my two soft buttons on the bottom bar (any ideas?). It comes back and stays operational after a soft reset, but as soon as I use the 'close all' option of the program, I loose the soft keys! Damn..there's always a hitch!
Another positive though, the speed boost remains even after I have exited the program and revert to standard WM5.0 launcher!
P.S. I had at least 12 programs running simultaneously with no slow downs at all and 15 megs of Memory still available (tried to run out of memory, But couldn't). Very pleased at the moment, this is what I was expecting from the HTC Universal!! I'll test extensively before I comment further.
Thanks again sub69, u da Man!!
Mental...I didn't realise it was that good!?!
Not sure about the soft buttons, although come to think of it I have noticed they've disappeared a couple of times. Must've been when I hit "Close All" too?
Glad I could help, anyway. Do let us know how things go...

Still cannot believe it!! It's still going strong. Sussed the soft button thingy:Under start (GSPocket)/options/settings...uncheck the 2 tabs for'use exten task close' & 'Use Today skin'. That's it. It runs absolutely perfectly for me & with no need for amended bitmaps too! It fits right in wih my red or blue border themes (I only use my own jpegs now instead of themes - in the hope that I get no performance issues.....so far so good). Under menu settind tab I only select close all & setting (which gives me quick access to all settings in WM5.0..personal & system) and under 'click' tab I leave it as default 'Menu'. I'm so impressed with this software, I didn't think non-specific WM5 software coul be this good!
That site you recommended is also tops!
This software is so good that I must put up a new thread to inform all of your wonder find. I just hope all who try it get the same experience I'm getting. Thanks again sub69....I don't even feel the need for the next ROM update/grade...though I won't be turning it away.
Hmmm, not sure why you're that stunned. I'm finding it just fine - but certainly no faster than my JJ runs under PocketPlus 3.01, and the non-VGA graphics are a real step backwards. Anyone know how to solve this?
You mention a speed improvement; can you clarify: Before this, how long did it take to rotate the screen, and how long does it take now?

That's the file you need to download for the Jasjar, then if you have an SD card reader, you can transfer it directly to it and install the .cab file by selecting it! If you don't have a card reader, let's hope you have a bluetooth dongle, as it's a small file then you can bluetooth it over. However if you have no problems with your activesync connection, just use that to dump the .cab file on your storage card somewhere or into 'My Documents' on the jasjar.
It's not complicated.

Yep, using it myself now - but no speed change over PocketPlus (even after hard reset to remove PP). Using it cos I like menu and PP didn;t offer all that much more that other apps don;t give me.

My Qtek 9100 with the latest english generic ROM was working fine for months. This morning, I removed the SIM and put it back in. Since then, it won't activesync, I can't drag n drop files to it through Explorer, and when I try to download a CAB file via IE, I now get this error message:
"This device is restricted from downloading this file type."
Any ideas? I don't understand what happened to it! It's like it moved to a very strict secure mode all by itself. It doesn't make any sense!
It seems that my security policies are all whacked up. The device doesn't even see the installed applications in the "Software uninstaller manager" app anymore. I tried rebooting and soft-resetting, no good.
ok guys, in order to fix my problem, I NEED one of you to send me ALL the keys and data info from this registry folder:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\
Please export that registry for me as a text file and attach it here (or copy/paste it), so I can retype it manually on my Qtek 9100 phone (I can't import anything on my PDA atm as I can't download anything to it, it won't let me).
If none of you do this small favor to me, I am screwed. I would need to hard reset and lose everything (I can't back up anything).
Here Goes...
Ok, I am running the latest "T-mobile custom" ROM, ROM version 2.24.10.1 WWE. I should have no policies enabled... I have typed out all of the keys and values under this in notepad in the format name-value. all values should be DWORD. Hope this helps....

Edit: My phone is a t-mobile MDa, don't think that should matter...
Thank you very much, much appreciated.

Merely changing the security Policies as listed in the .txt did not fix the problem
I have this problem too, I can't even edit the registry so I can't even try to put the policies back again. By the looks of things that won't work anyway.
Anyone got a solution that doesn't involve wiping the phone? Not that I know how to do that anyway. I have an XDA Orbit from O2.

Restricted Download !!!!! Hum
Hello all. I also have a Qtek 9100 for more than 2 years.
Honestly i never had that problem. And i already flashed undreads of ROMs and software to it.
One thing is that i always have Backup Software for any eventuality. Things can always go wrong.
Tips
First - Try to use Resco Registery Editor, its a good Software to make any changes "Delete/Rename/Copy/Add etc, etc.
Second - Look for Its Right, the TNT Master. It will be dificult to find him as he is getting is Engineer Degree. You can also ask Octaivoi,he is a Wizard Master 2.
Third - Keep an exautive search in XDA Devs and eventualy you all will find the answere.
Fourth - Get a Backup Software, get back all the software that cant be recovered. "Eugenia software can always be recovered". And FLASH a new ROM. There are many, many Beautiful and advanced Wizard ROMs arround XDA Dev.
Hope that any of these tips can help
SOLVED!!! ThankS!!!

first had this problem with the empty "remove programs" list 6 months ago, glad to see this whacked-out solution that works!!
Conclusion: Microsoft Windows Mobile messed up the security settings, so let Microsoft Word Mobile put it back automatically, voila!
And ofcourse, I've read about this "fix" soo many times at so many places, and it works for everyone but me >.< I tried all the different ways theres to it, nothing worked. One more thing, shutting it off and THEN pressing soft reset doesn't make sense. Anyway I tried, and it didnt fix. Still got the file deletion/changing restriction. Can't sync, can't get online, download files nothing ... If only Microsoft cared to fix this. Anyone any idea? Dutch phone, Hi provider, rom version: 1.93.404.1 NLD

I have tried the office word solution. That did not work for me!
Is there a Real Solution?

I'm sorry it didn't work on your device. I had the same problem, no sync, no file copy/rename on the device, no cab install, no programs in "add/remove programs" on my Mio A702 thing. The MS Word solution worked smoothely and now I have everything as it should be. So I can confirm the "word thing" actually works . Don't know why it won't do the trick in your case

Athena/Ameo Tray Applet...

Hi all. Need some help please. I had recently used the 'hide' TrayApplet program but after uninstalling Spb Shell, decided that I could do with it being back, but don't want large icons on my Today screen again.
Hkey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\HTC\TrayApplet
above I found the links to each of the icons in the tray and can successfully point them to programs of my choice. Great!!
No! The links now work a treat, but the old icons remain the same (therefore hard to distinguish what does what until you tap it).
Does anyone know how to or where the registry entries are for the icons in the TrayApplet? e.g when I tap on the web n walk icon, I now get my configured Internet Explorer, but no associated icon.
Any help appreciated.
No one here hot on Reg-editing? Tried looking at the Universal wiki and their Reg hacks, but it most of it seems to be filed using different naming conventions and some alternative methods.
In any event. The above post shows where the links are (in seperate folders)....which can be permanently deleted and will then remove them from the TrayApplet.
Thanks for the info. I am still trying to decide what to do with the tray on my phone.

No probs neildunne..at least you tried to help.
And someone else has benefitted from your answer.
Is there a simple regedit to enable/disable the trayapp?
Yep there is
Yes you can do it manually.
Go to HKLM\init and create a strin Launch92 and give it the value TrayAp.exe. When you want to remove it delete the key.
Can somebody post the HTCHomeplug plugin so I can use this one instead of the taskbar?
WA3 will solve it.
I'm happy. God is listening.
System Tray Features
* Added the ability to place program icons on the system tray.
On the screenshot above, you'll see icons that don't normally appear on the system tray. WisBar Advance 3 now allows you to place icons on the tray as a "quick launch" bar, similar to iLauncher and several other software packages.

Thanks from me for this too.
Although I am curious to know... from the community at large perhaps... the Today screen is evidently made up of a series of components... TSk files for the theme... applet files for additional display options... the HTC plug-in software to modify the HTC HomePlugin etc.
It seems a bit odd to me... given the apparent effort put into theme creation software by quite a few writers... that those same coders stopped where they did... at themes.
It seems like only half of the job... even the admittedly-clever HTC Home Plug-in Customiser goes that far and no further.
I'd expect at least one developer to come up with a more comprehensive product... the modules do exist as separate entities... theme designers... plug ins and customisers... and especially with the advent of WM6 and VGA screens...
I've had two Blue Angels now for a couple of years. It never occurred to me to play with themes. The only modfication of the desktop was from whatever software went in and did so as part of the package... XCPU Scalar and some SPB items for example. I never even bothered to upgrade the Windoze from 2003SE. Everything seemed to work alright, and most software that I try to use on it still does too.
Now we have two Ameos as well... both running different versions of WM6... different ROMs... one of which (the later) is T-Mobile.
And, probably due to the larger screen, I decided to take a look into the desktop.
The T-Mobile flavour did indeed come with this Tray App, and it is only today and on here (naturally) that I have actually found out the designation of the thing.
XCPUScalar knew all about it long before I did, and stuck it's Speed, Reset, and Off buttons in it.
The other Ameo came with what I think may be a vanilla (HTC) version of WM6 and the HTC Home Plug-in... and I only recently learned about that here too... none of this appears in the little manuals T-Mobile inlcude with the Ameo of course.
I wonder now, as I write, if a fairly basic and simple method of getting rid of the Tray App may simply be either removing it from the Windows folder or perhaps renaming it.
Either way, your method works well for me... as does XDA-developers per se... and without whom all HTC customers, whether members here or not, would be a great deal poorer.
Personally, I do wish that I understood a good deal more of the subject matter, especially in the deeper-delving posts... but at least with xda-developers being here... all of you... the possibility exists.
Thank You once again... all of you.

Pandora and TP2

I've read that others are able to run Pandora. Well, I can't run it on my tp2 (the cab file was the PandoraVga+Ivan1 that's circulating here in xda). I keep getting a C++ debug error. I've removed and reinstalled the app, ran memmaid to clean out bad files/registry, but that didn't work. So I installed the same cab to my husband's tp2 and it ran without any problems and no error messages.
Can anyone help? I'm very close to doing a hard reset.
Thank you for your input,
Theresa
Pandora works now!!!
So the C++ error must be because of conflicts from other previous software installs. I did a backup restore to a few weeks back and reinstalled pandora. Works like a charm!
I attached the cab that works on the tp2.
Good to know my TP2 gets here this week and I've been eagerly awaiting using Pandora on the go. Thanks!
i actually just installed the SP version of Pandora and it seems to work jsut fine the only problem is that the keys are hard to press because they are too small
Song stops before end?
I just installed this on my TP2 with Sprint stock rom.
Works mostly, but the song stops before the end and then says connecting and starts a new song.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks!
Found my own answer!!
Do this for fully working pandora!!

My bad! It does not play full songs still!
Anyone know how to fix this issue???
probably have to do the advanced config 3.3 fix where you set the network packet size at 98xxx. Can't remember the value. The question presented was whether or not this would slow down the TP2's internet speeds. Give it a shot and report back!

2 very specific questions (Disable the cannot connect bubble solved)

I would like to both find the following 2 fixes and cook them into my rom, but i cannot yet find the fixes - perhaps someone could be so kind as to help.
1. I do not want to see the 'could not connect' message - yes I have disabled both the connected and disconnected option but cannot find a way to remove that message. Really annoying when using TomTom.
2. When I tap the little keyboard at the bottom, to bring up the on screen keyboard, half the tme I accidentally get the input option menu I never use this and only want the standard keyboard - can I disable the option menu?
I have more questions, but am working through them as I think they are solvable by me with more time research.
Many thanks.
EDIT - See post 22 for likley solution to problem 1

1. I don't know.
2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ezsip]
"EnableSipMenu"=dword:00000000
Softreset...that's it.
Thanks, but I have tried that and it did not work. (I have gone back and checked that the reg edit was still there after the soft reset, and it was.)
TomTom breaking Manila
I still cannot answer my two initial questions, but have come across a strange issue.
I have tried to cook TomTom into my ROM to save time on the install. I have done this is the past with old style kitchens on previous phones no problem.
I have used the cab to ext converter in OsKitchen and made a package. If I inlcude the package in my ROM however, Manila will not start. Itr just syas tap here to start HTC Sense, and then flickers a bit but for love nor money I cannot make it start.
By a process of elimination I am sure it is the TomTom package causing this.
Running the cab via cab does not cause this issue.
Would anyone know what the problem might be?
Cheers
Don't use the cab converter to make the EXT. My guess is that the cab has a setup.dll, and the converter is missing something important. Here is how you want to make the package:
Install the cab; get all of the files created and put them in your package. Obviously, there will be files in \program files, but there may be some dumped into \windows, \my documents, the device root or \application data or \startup. There may be a new directory in \windows. Find those files and put them in the package as well; organize them however you want. Personally, I'd relocated the .exe and dll's and anything else I could into \windows, but I've never used tom-tom and don't know how it's organized or how it works.
Next, get all of the registry keys (after you register the program). I'm guessing that it's HKCU\software\tomtom or hklm\software\tomtom or something similar. There may also be other keys installed elsewhere (like clsid keys). Find those. If there's a setup.dll, you can open it with a text editor and probably see where they are. Some may appear in the _setup.xml. The best way to do this is to track changes with sk tracker, or do it the hard way and compare the registry before and after install with windiff (comparing full registry exports).
Once you have all the files and the reg keys, build the package. Clearly, the package builder is failing you, so I'd punt on it. Don't cook in the setup.dll, though (or anyting with a similar name, like tom-tomsetup.dll; sometimes there's more than one). Also, sometimes more complicated cabs will have zip files that install further during installation-open these up, look at them to make sure you have all the contents, then remove from the package.
Just a little add to Farmer Ted's excelent instruction.
I use wince cab manager to extract a cab, this will give you the registry plus the file locations.
This will give you something to compaire and helps you easier search what you are looking for.
The file locations you can create yourself in initflashfiles.dat or app.dat
To export a registry on device I use registry workshop.
With registry workshop you can export registry from your device straight to your pc.
If you are planning to realocate all the files to windows you need to edit the shortcuts to so they direct to windows and not program files for example.
The shortcuts you can open with a tekst editor.
Thanks guys - much appreciated.
The problem is that TomTom runs fine, its just that it screws up Manila. I will try and pull the cab to pieces as advised to make sure it is converting properly and also to see if I can spot anything that might impact Manila in the registry etc.
I dont suppose you have any thoughts on teh original two questions?
Not realy, but if the cab runs fine but your package isnt then there must be something wrong in the package isn't?

There is actually not much in the cab.
Using Wince cab Manager I can see no setup.dll
There are also no reg entries - nor can I find anything in the reg on the device that does anything other than list the install directory.
Looking at th files it installs, there are a couple of bluetooth files that can cause an error - odly it seems to not affect me when it is a cab but it must overwrite the windows ones when it is cooked in. The only thing I can think of is that it also has a phone.dll that presumably overwrites the one in the sys.
I will try cooking without this in my next build and see.
Unfortunately I am out of time as have recooked/flashed almost ten times trying to tie down this issue and then getting back to a stable base.
I have also 'broken' Arkswitch which was working on earlier builds. Don't think its related though.

It's weird that it screws up manila; I don't use manila (or T-T, obviously), so can't help you there. I'm just guessing that you're missing a registry key that you need to get the package to work. Is there a tom-tom demo (not warez)? If you post a link, I'll take a look at the cab to see if I can make an ext from it, or figure out what's going on. Some cabs are just a *****, and you're better of doing a cab install. You should see the Redfly cab, it's sick, lol. It's one that has a zip file that does a secondary install. I hate it. I also hate Redfly, but that's another story.
I read somewhere that with some sip buttons, if you press the left half, it launches the keyboard, and if you press the right half, it launches the menu. I've never experienced it myself, and don't know which builds it affects or why it happens. Is this what's going on? I'm just guessing, since you say it eff's up half the time. I have no idea how to disable the connection message, but I wouldn't mind knowing how, either. It's annoying as crap.
What's your device memory left over?
I'm just thinking, maybe you could exclude TomTom from the taskmanager exclusive list.
Sorry one more idea, you are cooking for Rhodium right?
HD2 and Rhodium have a simulair bluetooth stack.
I remember on first HD2 roms there were some problems with TomTom and bluetooth on HD2.
Just a taught.

Thanks both for your continued help.
Yes I am cooking for the Rhodium and am using the Rhodium Manila plus Cookie 1.6.1 so as to keep memory use in check. Ok I have added in the 1.8 HTC messaging but it doesn't cause a problem. Memory is about 40% free on first boot - am also using 23568 as the SYS base. I also use Ameba.
I think my Arkswitch issue is due to something else cooked in, but being honest I dont really use Arkswitch much and so am going to drop it next time I cook I think.
Farmer Ted - There is no issue with TomTom as regards Warez as far as I know - the program is fine - it is the maps that must be purchased and talking about getting round that is where the problems arise. The program itself is OK.
I might get one last chance to cook and flash tonight to check out my theory about the Phone.dll. If not I will post back and throw myself on your mercy, although as you say, it might be better to just live with the fact it will be a cab install. due to the way the files interact and the fact that the tomtom package works, I do think something is being overwritten in the cooking process and all I can see is that file.
The reason I have persisted with TomTom is that I have made an old style OEM package in the past from the cab with no problems (long lost kitchen).
With regards to the Bluetooth issues - I have sorted those now AFAIK.
RESULT! re TomTom - will post back after putting my little girl to bed.
OK - to summarise.
I ran TomTom through the cab importer within OsKitchen and it produced a package.
Although the cab had installed and run with no errors, cooking it in created 2 errors.
Firstly, there was a bluetooth message about bttray or something not being a valid application.
This is caused by two BT files in windows being overwritten by the TomTom ones. Simply renaming the two fiels to include the word OLD in the name sorted that. I will just remove them next time as I do not think they are necessary if the windows files are there.
The second issue was that Manila would not start. I believe this is due to a similar issue to the above, in that phone.dll was being overwritten. I renamed the file to PhoneOLD.dll and cooked in the package and now Manila starts.....
Still looking for answers to my first two questions though
(and yes its cos I keep hittingt he side of the button with my fat fingers that the keyboard selector comes up)
I'm not sure what's up with the keyboard, although I use Resco, so maybe you don't get then menu popup when you hit the wrong half. Have you tried killing SIPGT_app.exe? Maybe it won't pop up with that killed. If that's the case, then remove the bootlauncher key in your ezinput package. Killing it may not help, though.
I could not find that exe file to kill. The keyboard behavious is I believe as it is intended to work - just not how I want it. But are you saying Resco Keyboard fixes this?
However my final reflash last night seems to have gone a bit nuts. I am now getting all sorts of problems with apps not being able to run because they are unsigned etc or bits missing.
We are talking about stuff cooked in that has previously worked flawlessly.
Had some issues with my PC last night as well. I think I need to go back a step when I get home tonight and maybe rebuild the kitchen.
Time and kitchens have moved on a little, but as things are going well, I am back to my original 2 questions that continue to perplex me:
1. Is there a way of stopping the 'cannot connect' bubble from coming up, or even to make it automatically close after say a few seconds.
2. Is there a way of stopping the keyboard selector menu from popping up when the side of the keyboard icon is hit. I just want the qwerty option and do not want the menu to come up ever.
I have been able to make no headway at all with (1), - found mention of one cab somewhere but the link had expired - and have tried various things for (2) but with no success yet.
Anyone?
Cheers
PS- to follow up my previous posts yes the fixes I mentioned for Tom Tom work fine - it was the 3 files causing the issues.
In my old Kaiser roms i used the below reg key to disable connect notification, sorry i really dont remember if it disable also"cannot connect".
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{8ddf46e7-56ed-4750-9e58-afc6ce486d03}]
"Options"=dword:00000000
Disable Sip Menù is the same reg key that another guy posted here:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ezsip]
"EnableSipMenu"=dword:00000000
I tried it on my HD2 before posting here and setting it to 0 it leave the menù where you can select keypad, compact qwerty, full qwerty and language,it is still present a little menù with the option and my guess is that this isnt removable.

Cheers for that - I am concluding that the SIP issue I wil live with, and I already have that reg key set to zero for the connections issue, to no avail. I am experimenting with some other keys, but its really shooting in that dark, and as I cannot readily reporduce the notification, it will be a few days before I can even see any change.
Oh well. I will update if I get anywhere.
Ooooohhh, following some more digging, I MAY have an answer re the cannot connect bubble. I saw someone elses solution and that has actually led me to what could be far simpler.
I will try and cab it up later tonight for other to try. It is just a reg entry
EDIT - maybe I spoke too soon.
I am testing this by alternating between 3G and 2G on the comm manager - normally this will pull up the message. (Could someone confirm this as a valid test method).
I thought I had it solved, then the message appeared, but have done it another ten times with no hint of the message.
Some more testing to do......
