When it comes to Xperia Vs. Omnia, it's Xperia that is a winner in my books. The real challenge is: Xperia Vs. Touch Pro and Omnia Vs. Touch HD.
I.e. If you want a mobile with a hard keyboard, go for Xperia or Touch Pro... else Omnia or Touch HD.

Since you are asking a bunch of ppl that own an X1 here, I would say x1. I'm also a fan of hw keyboard vs on screen.

even tytn II is better then omnia imho.omnia is polished phone by samsung as usual.i wont give you too much reason for xperia.metal case and hardware keyboard are enough i think.cheers.
Well, i tried both adn i chose the xperia. Why? Because the Omnia feels more like a smartphone than a pocket pc. That's my honest opinion.
Hello,
i had an omnia for 2 months sold it for an xperia.
hardware keyboard is better than software (was emailling a lot and thesof keyboard was not that good)
xperia better screen resolution and better screen sensitivity
xperia got a true audio jack
divx playback was better on omnia but imaga quality not that good because of the screen resolution.
camera is better on my opinion on xperia even with 2mp less.
no dpad on omnia so not esay for gaming.
battery life is better on xperia
omnia is lighter but feel more plastic.
omnia screen under the sun was awfull unreadable.
i am very pleased with my x1. even if the screen is smaller and x& is heavier.
I owned the Omnia for also about 2 mths before switching to X1, and I share the same sentiments as Tylwith!
If you type a lot, the keyboard on X1 is better than Omnia's touchscreen keyboard.
i used the T*omnia and the xperia and each are better at certain things
t*omnia
-better size and waight
-bigger finger friendly 3.3" lcd wvga
-accelerometer
-noticably faster 806mhz cpu
-tv tuner
xperia
-more buttons makes the device more practicle
-keyboard
-extra memory
-slightly better camera
-xda support
overall i like the xperia better
performancewise omnia and xperia use different processor seems that the xperia is more powerfull from the benchmark i have seen
the t-omnia is a omnia with a better screen resoltion same as xperia but
you can find it only in loea and japan if i remember well
another thing omnia doesn't have 3d card
What I've heard, Omnia is a real crap,
very unreliable device...
one gd thing abt omnia is the divx and xvid video support so no need to install coreplayer...
but for me theres no way i can type a message faster on an on-screen keyboard than on a hardware keyboard.
plus the X1's got a higher screen resolution and just looks cooler.
you have to install coreplayer or tcpmp because the playbacl with default software is awfull....
Used to owned one for 2 months

I wanted to write this up as i am sure some people dont know which one to get yet.
So, first i wanted to get a HTC Touch Pro but after getting into all the X1 stuff its a clear winner for me. Heres why
PRO X1
- 3 inch screen with same resolution as HTC Touch HD
- Much better camera
- 30fps video recording (international version, US version has slower 24fps recording)
- better video playback
- standard headphone jack
- outstanding build quality
- better looking (matter of taste of course)
- no gps lag (this is not confirmed yet, just read it somewhere)
- X1 has a 1500mAh battery (TP only 1340mAh), but this might not mean much with the larger screen
- X1a/i are tri-band UMTS, TP is only dual-band
CON X1
- the panel interface sucks, Touch Flo 3D is much nicer (in my opionion)
Solution: Touch Flo 3D from the Touch HD has been modified to run on the X1 and it does a near perfect job (issues will be fixed soon i am sure)! Thats even better than Touch Flo 3d on the HTC TP because of the higher res
- no G-Sensor
Solution: none acutally cause its not build in. So you cant use some of the nice g-sensor based apps and games, but thats not a major drawback to me.
- No Youtube application like the HTC TP has and playing flash videos in opera isnt very fluent
Solution: Port the HTC Touch HDs Youtube App...i think thats a matter of days only
- the keyboard of the TP is better, still the X1 keyboard is pretty good, no major drawback
- no TV Out, well yeah, that would really be nice to have but no deal breaker either
Basically the X1 can do everything the HTC TP can (except G-Senor Apps and TV-Out) and then some. Since they are priced quite equally, the X1 is the clear winner to me.
If you need the G-Sensor and TV-Out, you should get the HTC TP.
This isnt meant to be a flame thread or whatever, i absolutly LOVE the HTC TP too, just wanted to compare it for other people that might not have gotten into all the details yet.
I also just realized there already is a TP vs X1 thread in here, well nerver mind
Having used both, thats the list I came up with. I do have an inexplicable love of teeter which nearly swung it but reason won out in the end and the Xperia is just that little bit better. I like the keypad on the Xperia because I have big fingers which would sometimes activate the wrong key on the touch pro whereas on the Xperia there is a little space around each key.
Panels is not great and has a few glitches but the SPB panel makes up for it in my mind (just setting it up now). I'll give the HTC Touchflow2/3D a try later. I have a feeling that someone will work out either a way of enhancing it, to iron out the glitches or a way of replacing it.
Not sure about the cameras, they're both 3.2MP with LED flash. I think the quality is going to vary most depending on the lighting conditions.
Some other thoughts:
- X1 has a 1500mAh battery (TP only 1340mAh), but this might not mean much with the larger screen
- X1i has a faster Qualcomm 7200A cpu
- X1a/i are tri-band UMTS, TP is only dual-band
The other thing is that I really do love the 5-row keyboard on my TP right now, but the more I think about it the more I feel the X1's 4-row is an acceptable sacrifice, especially as I'm not actually going to spend too much time typing on either device.
thanks, added your stuff...
Does the X1i really have a faster CPU than the X1a ? i thought CPU specs where the same for the X1 and the TP
glad, to live in europe
Remember TP has a activ stylus, not important but a nice feature. Especially when you release the stylus during a call it opens the note app. This is nice feature during work. (My opinion).
There is no difference in CPU speed.
I apologize, it's not the CPU speed that is different, just some of the code restriction (US patent issues) that is responsible for slower video recording. Specifically:
X1i has the Qualcomm 7200A for 30fps recording
X1a has the Qualcomm 7201A for 24fps recording
TP has the Qualcomm 7201A (but different recording limitations altogether)
Hello everyone,
I'm thinking about buying an Xperia. Right now I own a HTC Kaiser and I'm
still very satisfied.
The reason I'm thniking about the Xperia is its much better screen
resolution over the HTC Kaiser.
What I'd like to know is, how does the 800x480 resolution work with
existing software.
Is software that is written for QVGA simply stretched to fit the screen? Or
does it not work at all?
I'm especially interested in several games (PDA Heroes, Morphgear, Pocket
UFO and Orions).
Can anyone tell me if, and if yes how, they work on the Xperia?
There are some things I'd like to point out, I purchased from mobicity and I'm here to confirm some things about my X2.
1) Firmware: (Official release?)
Software ID 1231-7617
Software version R1AA-097
Customization version R5A
Language region Generic_SG
Radio 6.5.60221
2) Keyboard backlight lags and takes 5 seconds to light up after sliding.
3) Keyboard feels really light and plastic..
4) When sliding out keyboard, it doesn't have a heavy metal feel like the X1. Is this just the new feel of the X2?
5) It was said on wmpoweruser.com that X2 will be running windows mobile 6.5.3, I don't see any 6.5.3... or the start at the bottom of the screen.
6) Speaker volumes are quite soft, nowhere as loud as X1 with audiopara volume booster.. wondering if audiopara will work on X2?
7) Choppy video recording
8) Nice landscape pictures with 8,1 megapixel, BUT autofocus fails like X1 for up-close objects.
9) Less blurry than X1, but still blurry
That's all for now, will keep testing the X2.
I believe WMPoweruser said that the upgrade may come in the future, but all the shipping X2s will have plain 'ole WM 6.5 on them.
WM 6.5.3 wa first officially presented at CES
few days ago.
So you won't have it now.
So in terms of build quality, is the X2 better or the X1 better?
The thing I hate the most about HTC phones (X1 inclusive) is that they all feel cheap.
I can come to 4 conclusions about the X2:
X2 has better keyboard
X2 has faster/smoother graphics
X2 looks dam sexy
X2 gives me bragging rights
Everything else is available on X1 that X2 has, so if your a cheapo and want value for your buck, stick with X1.

Same as our leaked official firmware Good sign.
Camera is the same as X1, laggy, blurry.
Tried infinite focus, macro, twiddled all the settings.
Very disappointed, actually I would say no difference in quality as X1.
Autofocus function just seems useless, cant even take medium to close quality pictures of anything.
X2 maybe 8.1 megapixels, but to me its just a number after testing it out.
I can come to one conclusion, image quality output are the same as X1..
Royal-b:
Thanks a lot for all the information. All of us really appreciate it.
I'm not sure how valuable this suggestion is, but it would be very interesting: could you run the sk tools benchmark and report the values? I think that would at least tell us whether SE tried to optimize performance.
I'm not highly optimistic that they did; my suspicion is that software development money for the X2 when into making the facade more slick, at the expense of optimizing performance. The camera issues seem to be case in point.

This is very bad news. Besides the Megapixel count, X2's camera seemed to have better lens than X1, and supposedly they've made a good camera on the Satio...
Please let us know if you get around this somehow or have a different judgment after some use...
Honsetly for the price of the X1 and X2 are phones should of came with cyber shot with are cameras.
From GSMArena preview:
"The image quality is surprisingly good for a prototype - we are quite convinced that the XPERIA X2 will be equal or even better than the one of Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot. All the colors are accurate, there's no over-sharpening or purple fringing, white balance is adequate, the resolved detail is pretty enough with foliage looking especially good. It's only that we believe the resolved detail could be somewhat better and we guess that Sony Ericsson will work a bit more on this until the release."
So where is the problem...?
Problem is he has the latest X2 and says the camera is as bad as any HTC's (X1), which are normally quite bad, as my Kaiser's...
We (I, at least) were expecting a Cybershot/Nokia/Satio like quality, which unfortunately does not seem to be the case. From your posts I assume you are buying the X2 as soon as it gets out in Poland in the 18th. Just hope you have a better experience(and please inform us, post some pics etc)... I am very willing to buy the X2, but a bad camera can be a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, I don't get why no one can put a semi-decent camera in a WM phone. Actually, the X1's is good but they did not optimize the software. If motorola continues including good quality cameras (like apparently the Droid and maybe here), I'm tempted to cross over.

My friend came over to mine the other day with his new Iphone 4. Comparing it to my X10. The X10 quality looks shockingly awful compared to the Iphone 4, now its stayed in my head that the X10 screen isnt as good as what I use to think it was since seeing the Iphone 4's Screen. It is truely amazing!!!!!
Trying my best to find Hi-Def wallpapers since he had an Hi-Def Wallpaper on his Iphone 4, to try and make my screen look half decent, but I havent come across any of yet..
After a bit of research i found the screen Hardware Capabilities and Specs.
------------------------
Iphone 4 -
TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 640 x 960 pixels, 3.5 inches
Xperia X10 -
TFT capacitive touchscreen, 65K colors
Size 480 x 854 pixels, 4.0 inches
-------------------------
So, X10 has a 4 Inch screen and 409,920 Pixels (Bigger screen less pixels than Iphone 4 screen)
and Iphone 4 has 3.5 Inch screen and 614,400 Pixels. (Smaller screen more pixels compared to X10 screen) which means, this is obviously a better screen than X10
Is it just me who thinks this? also does the 16M colours that the Iphone 4 has, take any effect on this because I read that the human eye can only see X amount of colours.
Also I know I am never going to get close or near quality to the Iphone 4 Screen, but does anybody know which type of wallpapers bring out the best quality in the X10?
Thanks!
even if its as you say the iphone 4 has a lot of BUGS like the one when you lose the signal when you hold the phone.
So i think that you should thank god you have a X10 and not a iphone 4
just my opinion.
x10 has 16M, just not on android 1.6
use any wallpaper from this thread
Wait for the update, then you will appreciate your x10's display more.
The X10 has a wonderful screen. Leave the iphones for those without personalities.
Dont believe apple when they say they have x million colors. They have said that about all their screens and have been sued before for lying about it. Besides, I trust a sony screen before an apple screen because sony really knows their stuff.
iPhone 4 - IPS-panel, LED-backlit
XPERIA X10 - TN-panel, CCFL-backlit LED-backlit
Edit: although the X10 looks like a CCFL backlit display, it's indeed a LED-backlit one. This is clear from the disassembly shots posted on this board, as the X10 display panel doesn't have a high voltage cable going from a screen bulb to an inverter (CCFL structure) and only has one connector (LED structure).

With the same resolution, smaller screen always look better than a bigger screen. Just compare same resolution 32 and 52 LCD TV, which one looks sharper? Iphone is 3.5", X10 is 4", of course the "smaller" screen looks better.

Yeah, but the iPhlegm does actually have double the resolution, so that's a moot point...
In all honesty, I was pretty amazed by the iPoo's specs, it does have amazing resolution, but do yo really need that much on a phone...?
Impressed, yes. Envious, no
Screen specs aside, what about some of the other sepcs, like Android OS vs. iShite OS - x10 wins hands down (even with 1.6)

I agree, screen resolution isnt important on a SMART phone. Keyword smart, its for computing and being all around practical. by that respect almost all 'Droid' series phones win hands down as well as the X10.
Although name calling is alittle childish, Apple deserves it for their behavior toward customers in this 'ipoo 4' crap.

I really doubt they can fit a ccfl tube into a mobile phone. I think all smartphones have a led backlight.
Also nowhere on the internet is stated what sort of panel is used in the xperia x10.
on topic: All apple products are bad, only their macosx software is good. For example, their ipods have worse sound quality than other mp3 players that cost half as much. Their iphone 4 is a complete design flaw, it just sucks and android is a better os. At the moment the screen of de xperia x10 is limited to 65k colors, so we have to wait untill the update in Q3 or Q4 to see it's true potential.
And at some point it doesn't matter anymore how much pixels the screen has, because you can't see the individual pixels anymore. The screen of de X10 has enough pixels in my opinion.

How old are you? Do you expect to be taken seriously when you post things like "iPoo"?
To the OP: What's so "obviously better" about the screen? The fact that it's smaller? Both phones are incredibly clear and easy to read, not to mention bright.
To everyone: If you're so worked up over specs, why did you buy an X10? There are more things to a phone (and life, really...) than pure specs.

You beat me to it! I've been calling it that for ages!
The lack of colour range on the X10 is a tad annoying, although for most things you may not even notice it. It will be nice when SE releases 2.1 and the colour support is better.
As for the iPhones resolution; it's pretty nice. From what I've seen images are very crisp and clear. That being said, I ditched the iPhone/iPod Touch for the X10 because the screen was too small, not because the resolution was. That hasn't changed.
Hi guys,
I own a Xperia X10 ( latest firmware version available)and i had the opportunity yesterday to use a Samsung Galaxy S for the whole day. SGS belogs to a friend of mine.
Here are my impressions of the Sam G. S in comparasion to our "beloved" X10.
1.Screen
Colours are more vivid on SGS, but X10 has better resolution. I could differentiate the pixels on SGS, but not on X10. I'm quite picky with screen resolutions. I own a Iphone4 aswell and i can say X10 its not very behind iPhone4 concerning the screen resolution and crispness image. X10 just needs the 2.1 to boost to 16 million colours and get more vivid contrast.
2.Touch screen.
Exactly the same. They're balanced. I just wish to get MT on X10. MT can be useful in certain situations.
3. UI Performance.
Although X10 has the old 1.6 Android, i had the impression that lags less (mine doesn't lag at all and i´ve plenty of applications installed) than the SGS. I felt that the fluidity of X10 is pretty good, now that i've used my friends SGS for a whole day. Switching screens was more laggy and the refreshment rate was worse than on X10 - i couldn't believe what i was experiencing.
4. Multimedia.
Oh god. I've just to say that there isn't any phone with such a great audio quality as the X10. Miles ahead of the SGS and even Iphone4 that i also own. Crispy and balanced tones on X10. SGS was pretty average.
Video is also interesting: Refreshing rates / fps were the same watching the same movie. X10 is more crispy and the SGS has more vivid colours.
conclusion:
Android 2.1 will leverage X10 to a much higher level and it will be on pair or even better than almost all Android phones including those with the 2.2 version.
I'm not replacing my X10 for the SGS as i was planning before.
Hope it helps!
That seems like a fair comparison and is very inline with what I experienced using the AT&T Captivate. I had that device for 28 days and replaced it with the X10.
The lag is generally believed to be because of the file system Samsung chose (RFS). It's not clear why they chose RFS and the lag fixes floating around basically make a new data partition with EXT2, EXT3, or EXT4. It doesn't matter for me at this point but I'm glad I don't have to rely on Samsung to fix all the issues on their Galaxy S devices. There are many other annoyances on the Captivate but I won't bother listing them. The bottom line is that for me the X10 is a much better device.
Thank you very much for an interesting post in a long time and thank you for a good clean review! Very much appriciated

REALLY??? I hope you are not talking about x10's speaker audio quality..
i LOVE x10.. but seriously.. i have to listen to everything through bluetooth headset or an earphone.. the sound is HORRIBLE when you just have it on the speaker, and it hurts my ears.. especially on higher volumes...and yes.. i've compared it to other phones.. my lg new chocolate sounds a lot better compared to x10.. (only comparing the speaker audio quality)
Seems fair both phones have their positives and negatives, i think the 2.1 update will make the x10 a lot more solid, some people think theres not much difference between between 1.6 and 2.1, but it has its obvious advantages. preferably i would have liked to have seen 2.2 on there but hey il take whatever i can get.
I have both phones and I agree with some of what your saying, yes it lags a bit and text in definitely not as sharp
but in the multimedia you made no sense... The sgs is far better when it comes to watching movies the sharpness is basically the same as the x10 plus more vibrant colours (it also has divx support out of the box). Audio quality is superior on the sgs without a shadow of a doubt even the gsm arena say so(lets not forget it has an equaliser). It has a better battery life and its fully rooted with full boot loader access you have missed out so many sections, sigh maybe i should make my own proper comparison.
I agree having owned both. SGS colors "pop" more, but the colors are not accurate at all. I used to compare to my Nexus One and colors were actually way off on the Samsung.
SGS plays just about any video codec you throw at it which is nice. Listening through headphones the X10 kills it. The screen is just a smooth I think as well.
Go on a Captivate and read web text while scrolling very slowly. There is a really bad "rolling" effect that actually bugged me while using it.
When the X10 gets 2.1 it will certainly hang with the Galaxy S models in my opinion. I just wish the Xperia had the internal storage of the SGS line.
btw, gps performance on the X10 is spot on where Samsungs tend to not be great in that area. Even after their gps "fix" it won't be as fast and accurate as the X10.
I work for AT&T and I see many problems coming in with the Captivate. The browser crashes often and the phone reboots itself a few times a day sometimes. I owned one and my gf still owns one and her's has some of these issues.
Just for clarification:
i meant that the audio quality via headphones...using high quality headphones. Yes X10 is the best in the market. I owned a Nokia N900 and i did the comparasion as well.
Sorry for disagreeing, but the X10 is also more sharp watching videos than the SGS. SGS has to saturated colours.

Well i have to disagree in the audio department but thats down to audio taste i guess. But the sgs video quality is better than the x10 i have viewed the same HD video on both, side by side and you would be a fool to tell anyone the the x10 is better to look at.
Edit: In fact im looking at both now, the sgs blows it out of the water sorry. I can upload pics if you want proof.

Sure as soon as I get home around 6 ish my 14mp cam is at home.
What is the rom from SGS? I know that Sony Ericsson have 1GB SLC, 50% to ROM and 50% to Storage, in some websites shows 15GB of ROM to Samsung, others 2GB of ROM, 16GB os MLC in SGS is for ROM+Storage like the 1GB SLC in X10?
My best mate has a SGS. We compare all the time. For those in this thread that think the SGS screen is producing more saturated colours etc...
You are just not used to the REAL colours. The SGS has the best screen on the market. It has a 50000:1 contrast ratio! The blacks are near perfect. Which makes the non-black elements "pop" off the screen.
When we both load up the exact same black screen on the same brightness, my x10 looks like it's GREY compared to his SGS. I can use my full black screen in a dark bathroom as a dull light, he can not. As for video watching, the SGS screen is much clearer and and crisp. This is because of its extremely high contrast ratio. Moreover, the x10 on 1.6 can only show 65k colours on a TFT screen. While the SGS SAMOLED screen on 2.1 uses 16million!
I love my x10 guys, but the SGS screen and display is far superior and certainly looks like it when placed side by side with an x10.
Now, when x10 finally gets 2.1 which will allow the x10 to display 16m colours, it will be a whole lot different for comparison, but it still won't match up to the super high contrast ratio that the SGS has.
Samsung uses fake colours, the sony dont have the best screen, but is good, and with great resolution, Sony have 13.3' screen with 1920x1080 in notebooks, and others better than this, Apple and Sony are the kings of resolution

REAL colours and 50000:1 contrast ratios? HAHAHA. First off, maybe a handful of lcds in current production produce accurate colors and they're not put in mobiles. Secondly, 50000:1 contrast ratios is a marketing gimmick and means something, but it isn't an objective measure in any sense as different companies scale it differently.

Now that there is a huge exaggeration. Also, video quality also varies depending on the media file, player, And screen. Either way, lcd screens on mobiles aren't that great to begin with.

Maybe, but you certainly don't have any compelling arguments as to why the Galaxy S is better than the x10. Even with the increase in colors, how many can the eye actually distinguish from another? Certainly not 16 million.

Once again, contrast ratio is a subjective metric defined by manufacturers used as a marketing gimmick.

well in all honesty its quite an amazing screen and down playing the specs doesnt make any less amazing.
Samsung is known for it's great picture quality, from it's out of this world LED Tv's to it's cell phones.
the Samsung Galaxy is a superior phone. The X10 better get a lot better with the 2.1 upgrade. Otherwise, Im upgrading it to 2.1 just to add a selling point.
In 2009 it stays in 4th place in TVs...
1º Pionner Kuduro
2º Philips
3º Panasonic
4º Samsung
5º Sony
Something like that, so, nothing impressive... btw, i dont like the samsung colors, totally fake...
