Nowerdays there r cheap car radios with a USB-connector. So i asked myself if it would be possible to get the touch hd synchronized und loaded with only one usb-cable?
On the one hand it would get loaded by the radio and the other hand i could hear the music from the touch hd, with a direct connection.
Is that possible? If yes...with every Radio? what r the attentions i have to look for?
I assume with 'loaded' you mean 'charged'?
The car radio will have generic USB storage drivers, so HD could work as (overpriced/sized) USB memory stick. But to the radio, it would be only that, just a dumb USB memory. You can't use HTC player software.
Depending on the radio, it may have problems with long filenames, or files not in the root, or memory larger then 2Gb. And of course it may not play all MP3 sub-formats. But if the radio is recent, it probably plays most common formats and even larger USB memory.
Charging should work, but the radio may not be set up to deliver the full 500mA power so charging may be slow. Since the HTC is powered on, it may even consume more than it charges.

so charging is in general with 500mA? doesn't matter if connected to pc or directly at electricity? in that case i would have to look at it at the radio, maybe there r differences
usb charge if given 5volt usb is spc'd to provide max .5amps
amps are not pushed they are drawn so if you connect something
which draw .5amps it dont matter if you connect it to something
which can provide 1000amps
a device draw as much as it's resistence set it to

I tested it with Omnia before, with a simple FM transmitter...
I have installed a Blaupunkt headunit quite recently in my car, and I will try my Touch HD in drive mode with it when I go home from work...

Correct, current is drawn and if a device draws only 500mA, it does not matter how much the supply can deliver. However, if the supply can only deliver less, like 150mA, you cannot draw more from it. So it is always the minimum of supply and demand.
As to the USB-HTC:
USB can officially deliver up to 500mA, but equally officially, a device needs to first *ask* how much power it is allowed to take.
If the HTC detects a real USB data connection, it will ask the computer how much it is allowed to draw, which will never be more than 500mA, but it may even be less.
Your radio is a real USB data connection BUT as it was designed for only memory, it may not have the actual hardware to go up to 500mA. Or it may not have the communication protocol installed needed to answer a power-query. Therefore it may max out at 100mA.
If the HTC detects a 'dumb' power source (without data connection, only with power) it will draw 500mA.
If the HTC detects a 'dumb' power source with the 2th pin (pin B on the mini-USB) connected to ground, it assumes a extra powerful supply and will draw up to 2000mA.
The USB slot on my Sony car stereo will not charge the HTC Touch HD - not enough power. It will charge my old Polaris, however.
MY carradio charges the phone ...
but connecting as usb drive and charing the same time is working only some minutes before´the phone is stopping to work..

Interesting... I've got a desktop holder which has to modes: charge-only and normal sync/charge mode. I wonder wether charge-only mode "enables" fast charging or wether the AC adapter does something special...
If i'm not mistaken, the typical USB port outputs 5V of power at 500mAh (milliamp-hours). And in my case, my shipped charger outputs 5V at 1000mAh . using the supplied charger would charge my Magician twice as fast compared to the USB (explanation below). I think even USB2.0 ports still give out power at 500mAh.
The Magician's battery is rated at 1200mAh. Charging through the PC's USB port would take roughly 2.4 hours. Using the supplied charger, it would take 1.2 hours. Simple equation for charging is, battery rating (mAh) divided by charger rating [so that's 1200mAh/500mAh for USB]. Disregard the voltage for now unless you plan to make your own standard/portable charger. Rule of thumb, refrain charging the battery with a higher mAh rated charger.. It will damage the battery in the long run.

i doubt it since max current USB can provide is 500mah as any more would damage the port and probably the board.

Yup, jedhonx your right! Its the amount of power supplied! There is no way that you could use a software to charge the device in USB at faster rates.
The only way it could be thought of is like, if your device processor is running at certain spped, it consumes some power. When it runs at lower speed, it consumes lesser power and so if the software could make your processor run low or to shut down other programs maybe would show you an incresed speed of charging!

One of the following three thing WILL happen if ALL of them...
1-Fried Motherboard
2-Fried Battery
3-Fried Device
The first can happen because the USB ports will send energy to each other, the other two because voltage WILL duplicate... Think like this, when you have a device that uses "normal" batteries like a remote or a portable cd-player that uses two or more 1.5V batteries they use it because the device works with 3V (2*1.5V batteries)... Hope I made myself clear, because my english is quite rusty...

Well if you link USB ports to increase voltage it's true that it'll probably kill the mb. But linking 2 UBS connectors to increase amps is no problem and often done. You end up getting 5V 1A output. You could even link more ports to further increase the maximum supplied amps, alltough I never tested more than 3.
Linking 2 ports in a way that increases amps will NOT fry the mb, will NOT fry the battery and will NOT fry the device.
I'd say give it a try and see if it charges quicker.
Actually I think it depends on how many separate USB chips are connected to the USB ports. On one chip (or better say channel) can be more than one port be connected on the computer (like with a passive hub). In that case, connecting two USB cables in parallel doesn't change anything. Otherwise you could connect the cables in parallel and simply get more current at the same voltage (not to mix up with setting batteries in serial).
There are USB chips on the market that supply more than the specified 500mAh, but I suppose the Magician itself detects a USB connection to the computer. I remember that the first ROMs could only be loaded by USB chargers when Pin5 was connected to Ground, which was never necessary when a real USB connection was established to the computer. USB connections to the computer only use 4 Pins. This tells me that the Magician distinguishes between a connection to the charger and a connection via PC USB and limits the power drain correspondingly. If that is the case, connecting a cable with two USB ports doesn't help, it's still recognized as PC USB connection by the Magician.
it maybe OOT, but still relates. my magician can only be charged by usb cables. wont work on ac adapter. it has been going for few months and it really bugging me since it takes 4 hours to charge through usb cables.
i did try hard reset and no change .

I appreciate that you are trying all your mind to find the solution..
I believe that O2 provied AC Adapter wont pass additional current to screw up the battery life as it is provided by O2 Manufacturer itself. If Adapter takes 2 Hrs to completely charge the O2 Mini, then this can be done by USB cable also.
Also if you see in any other PDA running windows mobile 5 you will see an option of "fast USB Charging"..
It means that it can be done, but we need to find out how it can be done.

Is there any way to see if the unit is being fast or slow charged? It seems that the HTC charger uses an extra pin on the charger to enable fast charging and that MAY be why some aftermarket chargers (wall and car) do not seem to keep up with the battery discharge when running even if their plugged into a charger with sufficiant current capability. The HTC Wall caheger is rated as a 1 Amp charger. I have other chargers that use an external USB cable to connect, both rated as 1.5Amp (1500mA) chargers but seem to charge very slow. Soooooo I'm looking for the difference between the HTC charger and the aftemarket ones to see if I can make the ones I have work properly.

After talking to Pocket PC Techs and looking around online, it looks like the x-pin (next to pin 4(gnd)) is shorted to pin 4 to provide the advantage with a sense line to tell it to fast charge. The also shuts off the data lines in the unit AFAICT. Still don't know what the current capability of "Fast Charge" is or how to ask the unit to query the port for status. USB ports are generaly limited to 500ma and the stock charger is 1000ma (1A) so it seems that to ensure the MAX charge, the cable connected needs to have the x pin and pin 4 shorted. This is usefull if you are NOT wanting to do a data transfer (car GPS, stand alone charging, etc).

I just received the Lil Sync DUO Mini-5 Adapter from PPC tech and it works perfectly. I'm now getting a fast charge from my PC (no sync) and I'm able to charge my S705 bluetooth headset.
Interesting news on the pinouts. I've never heard of any utility that shows fast vs. slow charge.
I wonder if anyone has a utility that can sense a gnd on the x pin (next to gnd) of the input connector. Does anyone have a schematic of the advantage side of the input power/data connector. It would me that there might be a pullup on that line sothe unit see's it as a high untill pulled low by a ground applied tothe x pin.

Hello guys I need your kind help on the following questions
1- I bought an otg cable and found that it keeps disconnecting a lot, like when I connect a usb hard drive, or mouse, or xbox controller it keep every now and then disconnecting,
2- the sound volume is really low , especially when I play music
3- is there a software that can tell me about lenovo driver or software updates
4- when i press the power buttom to turn off the display youtube disconnects, i was wondering if i can play youtube while display is off, as I like to listen to youtube sometimes and don't care about the screen to be on

Mouse should be fine, but an xbox 360 controller is rated at 400mA of current draw officially and hard disks regularly peak at 500mA or more, the miix is only rated for 100mA on its USB. You need a mains powered USB hub inbetween tablet and device if you are going to use big power hungry devices like that, or one of those USB cables with split data and power connections and put the power connection to a mains adaptor or battery pack (you can buy battery packs with USB ports for charging phones).
Sound I have no idea.
Does the normal windows update facility not serve your needs? Just check back every few days.
Pressing the power button depending on power plan is putting your device to sleep or hibernate, all CPU activity is suspended in both of these modes.

I haven't seen an OTG cable with it integrated, but there is no reason why you couldnt use this with your existing OTG cable:

On this cable there is 1 USB socket and 2 USB plugs. I'm interested to use Sidesync to have my S8+ screen on my PC. Wirelessly, it's unstable as I use VPN a lot. The best is via USB but I worry if my phone is continuously connected to a USB port, battery may damage as it will do like a cycle of charge/discharge. Any idea, guys?
It should not be a problem, unless your phone is using more power than what it is getting out of the USB. Once your phone is fully charged, it keeps using the energy directly from the incoming electricity.
But if the discharge is greater, then I would definitely advice you against it.
The phones are pretty intelligent to say the least.
To add to that, your best bet is to use a true USB 3.0 or 3.1 Gen2 port to connect the phone - the latter if available. These ports provide extra amps to make sure the phone is getting as much power as it can use. Do NOT use a USB 2.0 port, as modern phones consider the 500mA max that USB 2 can provide to be the bare minimum needed to charge.

The 2019 tablet does not need this, since the port is USB type C albeit USB 2.0; I have connected mine to a hub and have pass-through charging and data. OTG is not really a thing any more since USB type C came about.

Can you share the type of hub you have been used?

Kingston Nucleum. This tablet is in my car and the hub receives power from a 12-14v converter providing USB C PD and USB 3.0 fast charge. Ultimately, the hub defaults charging voltage to that of the lowest device connected. In my case a Sandisk SSD and a Meizu HiFi DAC Pro. This generally means that charging is slow, however it depends on your configuration. I'd say that the charging speed is fine, however it only charges when the car is running or in accessory mode and the tablet is always on in that state. As such the excess power it uses to charge whilst running is only a little more than it uses. It might charge faster if I power the hub from the USB C PD port, however I don't know if this is just pure amps or whether it negotiates higher charging voltages. I don't know if the Nucleum hub allows negotiation of higher charging voltages.

My issue right now is how should i leave the tablet when i turn ignition off.
I Think i will just shut it down, but i don't like to wait 30 seconds to but again when i turn it on.
What do you do in your case?
I'll have to check out MacroDroid. I'm currently set up with AutoMate, however there's a few annoyances which I think need ironing out. Vanilla Android Auto might not be the most exciting, but it's certainly the most friendly for driving safety.
I leave my tablet as-is. AutoMate automatically wakes the tablet into car mode on USB power and goes to sleep when it loses that. My car (Chrysler 300C) has accessory power for 30s (I think I can increase this in the EVIC) after the ignition is turned off which keeps the charger energised, and by extension the tablet. I'm not too bothered about having to boot up the tablet if it does discharge its battery to shutdown. I think it's maybe a week or so for it to do that, likely less when the tablet ages. As long as it charges and runs on the supply happily I think we're good. In that instance, I might have to see whether an auxiliary power bank would be a workable option. Not at this stage though. Bear in mind that most modern car head units still take about the same amount of time to boot as an Android tablet anyway.
I'm having minor USB issues myself, however this is down to the cable I need not being available. A lot of USB C "charging" cables are only pinned for power and not data. This might be part of any USB C issues you might be having. I myself need a USB C male with a tight 90° or 180° turn, out to a USB C female for the hub's pigtail. I might have to make the choice to fabricobble myself a USB cable just for this purpose....

I'm updating all of my comments in various threads on this. My setup with the Kingston Nucleum hubis having minor issues. The tablet still needs to be powered up before I turn on the car or at least supply power to the hub. It seems that if this is done the other way around, that is, to power on the car accessories (and hence the hub) then it seems to end up staying as the "device in charge" of the USB network. The tablet charges (slowly) but doesn't mount the USB SSD drive or the USB DAC. If the tablet is powering the hub (in charge, so to speak) then applying power to the hub via the car accessory supply has it working as expected. This does mean that the tablet ends up with a power drain when the car/USB power supply is powered down which isn't ideal. I've gotten into the habit of turning the tablet off when I park for long periods of time, however I need to boot it up to "take charge" of the USB hub network before I can start the car. It's a bit of a bummer.
I'm unsure whether this is a tablet hardware/software issue, the hub or whatever. Going into Android settings and trying to alter the default USB behaviour returns the message that it "cannot switch roles" or something along those lines. I'm beginning to think that this might be the USB hub refusing to switch/relinquish power supply roles once it has external power and hence not allowing the tablet to mount drives or see connected USB devices. It's weird behaviour, because you'd imagine that if the hub were connected to a laptop this would be a common action.
If it helps, I've read that OTG function is not included by Samsung for their device's USB ports. I've been trying to connect some together to perform file transfers with no success. However, I have been able to transfer and charge simultaneously between my SM-T510 tablet and PCs with the USB configuration set to file transfer.

How to transfare Battery power from Tab to another Android device?
