Hi Everyone!
Ordered an X1 and it arrives on Monday, can't wait. I probably should have checked this first, but... are multiple syncs possible on the X1?
To explain further, I'd like to sync with my PC at home to get my personal contacts, calendar etc, and have all those marked as "home" or similar, BUT to also have syncing with my company's Exchange server and get contacts, calendar etc from there and have it marked as "work".
I'd want the phone to understand the different sources and try not to sync my personal contacts back to the exchange server and vice versa.
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance.
Yes I sync 2 phones to PC and laptop
You can change each PCs "name" in Windows Mobile device centre

Hi,
Looking for some advise and hopefully some useful suggestions... have spent hours searching forums, google, M$, etc, etc....
The story begins....
Recently upgraded from my XDA IIi to the shiny XDA trion (HERMES) - moved to WM6 and had to upgrade to ActiveSync (AS) 4.5.
All fine and dandy to here.... (and most excellent I must add!)
Now - I have two PCs - home and work. Both locations have their own exchange server. (Work Exchange and Home Exchange)
Email - I sync via the exchange server at work and has no problems from either location connecting via AS 4.5 to the exchange server for the mail. (I am only interested in getting my work emails on the device).
Calandar and Contacts - I used to be able to sync both PCs to the XDA IIi via AS 4.1 meaning that if I ever added a calandar entry while at home, it would update the phone and when I next connected to my work PC, it would then place it there. (And Visa Versa). This also worked for my contacts, notes, tasks, etc. Consequently, I was able to know that I had the most up to date contacts, calander entries, etc on the phone, as well as on both PCs when I next connected the phone to them. So it didn't matter at which location I was sitting - I would be up to date and not miss appointments...
However, AS 4.5 helpfully tells me that I am already syncing my calandar / contacts / whatever somewhere else and must deselect this first (and remove all of the data) before it would allow me to connect with a different source. Rather frustrating.
Now, I don't know if there is an easier way to achieve the results I am looking for (can I point my home exchange server at the work one and have them sync and then I just sync to the one?) or if I am just making things difficult for myself..?? Surely I am on the only person out there who may like to keep to calandars across different PCs in sync? (I also don't want to use an internet based webservice like googlecalandar, etc).
Any ideas / suggestions / advise / hacks on how I can get it back to how I could work previously?
Thanks!.
MJ.
Okay, let me try to help. You don't have to deselect any of the Exchange items. Just select the items on the local desktop that you will be syncing. When you sync at home, you will see exchange items grouped being synced and a 2nd group on your desktop also being synced. Going into AS on the device will provide a last sync status for exchange and any partnerships you have.
Here is my setup:
I sync Email, Calendar, and Contacts via Exchange Server at work (this is done wirelessly).
I sync Tasks through a 3rd party app and notes at work on my desktop (this is a partnership in AS 4.5)
I sync calendar, contacts, quicken, etc... at home (partnership in AS4.5)
You'll notice that my device is syncing contacts and calendar between exchange and my home PC when it's connected and any changes on the device, exchange are mirrored immediately and at home when I sync it. Actually when I sync it at home I think it winds up being slow sometimes because it's by default syncing with the home desktop as well as pushing that info back to the exchange server at work.
Now, as to syncing with 2 exchanges - you'll probably have to choose one and then sync the other via a partnership. Not sure you can set up 2 servers.
Hope that helps.
I have been using Exchange Activesync on my 8525 since I first received it. Until now, I have been fine with just checking emails in my inbox. But due to some new responsibilities at work I am receiving entirely too many emails to keep in the inbox.
I have set up filters in Outlook so that they will go to their specified folder. The devices shows the folders listed in messaging, however no emails go into them (nor do they come to the inbox).
I am using Exchange Server 2003 SP2. Is there anything I can do for this?
Thanks
I know what you mean, I have the same issue... You do know you can search the Exchange Server from your phone though, right? The results that are returned, I believe, include all folders inside your mailbox. Helps if your looking for a specific email, etc...
Cheers.
Hello,
In Pocket Outlook choose Menu->Tools->Manage Folders
And choose folders you want to synchronize.
Just as simple as that

Works great. Thanks a lot.
Mail2web calendar and desktop oulook calendar
After signing up with mail2web live version my active sync has two accounts. The outlook account I familiar with and the exchange server account via mail2web.com.
Is it possilbe to sync my desktop calendar under activesync with the exchange server calendar? Any pointing to help, threads or pdf manuals would be greatly appreciated.
Ciao
Darrell
If you activated both calendars to sync-they'll be combinded.
activate calendars?
That refreshing, I haven't come across those key words. How do I activate both calendars? Not finding anything, easily, in help or microsoft forums
Im looking for a website/application that will allow syncing contacts via the net. Using thunderbird at home.
I have worldcom (i believe is the name) which I can take a picture of a business card and put it automatically in my contacts. In theory if I were to be at a point where i receive 20+ I would like to be able to sync via the net, where my partners would be able to sync as well, without hooking up to the computer. If that makes sense. Ive heard of SyncML, and Scheduleworld... but I am looking for other options, if anyone knows of any. Thanks for your time

Does exactly what you need and a little more...
Wow, that's a great idea. Why didn't I think about that. Thanks for the link to Dashwire.

I've been waiting two months for an invitation.
I have two phones waiting for invites... hope they increase their users soon.
this might work too
http://live.mail2web.com/
i sync with an exchange server at work, it syncs contacts, email, calender and tasks, this seems to provide the same exchange-based service
I've been waiting since this original message for an invite as well and have basically given up. For now I've just been using PIMBackup to make a nightly backup. I need to do a scheduled task to send them to my FTP server, that'll be good enough for me.
you could sync with an exchange server like said above. I use mail2web for that. alot of people use mail2web to "push" their email to the phone instantly. I did that for a while and it wasnt very functional for me so now i use it just to sync calendar and contacts.
all you have to do is setup up an account with them, add the email account to your phone, and your phone will automagically sync over the interwebs. whether you actually use the email addy is up to you.
while we're on the subject, is there a way to sync from desktop PC to mail2web (dont care about the email, just want to sync calendar and contacts)? that way, whatever changes i make on my PC will appear on my phone almost instantly without dealing with wires...
Mail2Web charges $14.99 a month if you want to sync to a desktop PC. Seems excessive to me.
I was using myfunambol.com to sync my calendar, todo, contacts with my phone, outlook and thunderbird... but the push email was not working very good and looked everywhere but can't get myfunambol to sync with gcal. Now I am using www.scheduleworld.com and I'm very impressed so far.
I use the same client that is on my phone, outlook and thunderbird and just set the server for credentials for scheduleworld and I should be in sync with all my devices.
I also use mail2web for push email... which backs up my calendar, todos and contacts as well... plus I do a nightly backup with ppcpimbackup. At this point... I think I'm safe against data loss... and all my stuff is in sync...
Now watch it all go to hell
Mark
When I fill in the serversettings :
mobile.exchange.mail2web.com
then username and password and try to sync, it just keeps telling me that it's syncing, but it doesn't establish a connection.
Do I have to add the emailsettings to establish a connection or am I doing something else wrong ?
Bump..

I gotta recommend dashwire also it synced everything on my device and even does a voicemail service (but not for us "Sprinters"). My only problem is with accessing the website using a mobile browser..it's still in beta so there are other issues but that belongs in another discussion...TRY Dashwire.
I like the idea of dashwire, but do not want to sacrifice the 3mb of ram to run it.
Hi
I was just wondering if it possible to sync my contacts from my home PC using Outlook and my calandar and mail from my works Outlook exchange server on the HD2.
I am a current iPhone user and am interested in moving over to the HD2 as it looks like an awsome phone. I can do the above on the iPhone but can't find any information as to wheather this is possible on the HD2. Searched the forums but can't find an answer!
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.
You can select to only link (via Exchange) your calendar and mail, I've done this. Then you just need to configure Activesync or Mobile Device Center to sync your contacts with Outlook.
Yes you can, a friend of mine has it set up that way. As Nighthawk said, it's just a case of configuring the sync right (you just have to tick boxes, so nothing challenging there!)
Dont know whether it helps, but I use an excellant app called Chronobis which allows me to pull (one way) my calendar from my work exchange server. It will also handle email & contacts.
I'm using this as I dont want to mix my home outlook contacts & calendar which I sync with Active Sync with my work stuff.
So I sync normally with Activesync and then download my work calendar which merges with my HD2 calendar... when I do an activesync... both work and home calendars are then together in Outlook.
I think in your situation you will be fine as you are not trying to "merge" contacts and calendars from 2 places at the same time.
Brilliant, thanks for your replies guys.
Yes this can be done, i do this with two exchange servers, one from my work and the other my gmail account.
Basically i sync my calendar and contacts with both and only sync my email from work.
I did this on my polaris and now on my hd2. Initially i wasn't too sure if the the hd2 would do this natively so i went with the regitry hack i used on my polaris. Perhaps someone could confirm that this can be done on the hd2 without the registry hack.
Here is the link to what i did with my polaris (and now my hd2).

Hi all,
Got a question/problem. I have my HD set up to receive email thru an exchange server but only to get the email. I still want to sync my contacts, calendar, etc. with the info in my desktop outlook. In the activesync window it shows microsoft exchange with email, and windows PC with contacts, calendar, notes and files but it doesn't seem to sync the info with the PC and only the exchange server. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks,
Ho'okani

If you run Activesync, then select MENU, then OPTIONS, you should find a page where it details which type of information is sync'd, and with what device. You can then UNtick the items you don't want to sync with your Exchange Server, and tick which items you DO want to sync with your PC!
I'm not by any means an expert on Exchange Server, or ActiveSync, but I have something similar setup on my HTC Trinity.
That's the problem. I have only email checked in the exchange section and have the calendar and contacts and notes checked in the PC section but it seems to ignore the PC section selections and syncs all the exchange stuff even though it's unchecked.
Thanks,
Ho'okani
The other problem is that when I set up the exchange sever and hooked it up to my computer, it deleted all the contacts, calendar and notes in my device. So now I'm trying to figure out how to get all that info back on my device and still use exchange to get my email.
Thanks,
Ho'okani

Hmmm! A tricky one! Just to test this, I setup my HD to sync email only with my companies Exchange server, and it synced quite happily, and didnt delete any other data (contacts etc.), which are still set to sync with my Laptop. I then tried a sync with Laptop and it synced those items (contacts and calender) and gave me no problems at all. (The only thing it DID do was enforce my companies security policy on the HD - which is an enforced PIN entry every hour of non-use. This is easily overriden by a Registry Hack anyway).
So to answer your question, I am afraid I do not now why you are sufferring this problem, as I cannot get it to occur on my HD - perhaps there are differences in the ROM you might be using - my Radio and ROM version details are contained in my signature (below) -- are yours the same?!
it is weird. I've gone so far as to delete the exchange server, delete the device and try to set up the partnership again and I still can't get my contacts and calendar back into the device. The exchange calendar items still remain on my device and no contacts.
Thanks,
Ho'okani

I am right to assume you also have exchange mail set up on your laptop too? I have an exchange account set up on my laptop to get mail from the exchange server also.
I got my contacts and calendar back on my device, but I had to delete the exchange account on my laptop.
Thanks,
