[IDEA]Use mobile phone as a usb phone for voip - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

The idea comes since i don't feel comfortable with current implementations of voip for the touch diamond (but i think most problems also occurs with other phones).
Reasons:
1. softphone applications (like sjphone) doesn't work via active sync
2. softphone applications are quite heavy to keep up and running on the mobile
3. integrated voip of windows mobile 6.1 is buggy and offers few controls
4. required wireless connections are very battery consuming even if you can leave your mobile charging while using wireless connections.
Proposed solution is an application to let you use your mobile phone as a usb phone via a client server approach: the client runs on the mobile and connects to a server running on the pc via activesync (automatic server ip) or any other connection (in this case i think you should provide the server ip address). Another nice way would be to start a process on the mobile from the desktop via activesync in order to make your mobile a usb phone upon usb connection.
The server will emulate a new sound card which can be selected on the desktop softphone of your choice or route audio through the built in desktop sound card.
What do you think?

bluetooth therminal services

when i connect my xda2 to activesync
and then try to use that connection to get hold of my
pc desktop using therminal services
i get the login screen and i login
but that kicks off my pc user and that disable activesync
and that kicks off my connection from my xda2
can anybody confirm that you cant use therminal services
when using activesync to connect to the pc ?
I know what you mean. As long as your remote desktop is active on your xda2, then activesync will still be running. Just log back in with your pc and that will log you off your terminal services, leaving activesync still running! tried running 2 user accounts at the same time but i still had the same problem
I think I know why you are having these problems. Basically from what I have seen is that when you connect to the Internet via an ActiveSync pass-through, it assigns your XDA with a 192.... IP Address and blocks a lot of ports. I noticed this when I tried to access certain SIP ports via the ActiveSync connection that can generally be accessed via an open GPRS connection. I think the best way out of this is by setting up you PC as a Bluetooth LAN server and then connecting the XDA to it via Bluetooth; thus totally bypassing ActiveSync. This way, as the XDA is now virtually a node on your network and assuming that your internet connection is shared, you should be able to browse freely without any automatic firewalls. This can be done with HP iPAQs, but as the Bluetooth facilites on the XDA are limited, it requires a lot of effort and extra software.

Terminal Services Client via Activesync

Hi all, this is my first post on xda developers (best site i've seen for xda related stufff).
Anyway my query relates to remote desktop control on the pocket pc. I've used the microsoft client (whatever its called) to connect and manipulate my xda 2 on my pc, but now I'm looking to do the opposite: view and control my pc desktop from my Xda.
I have an application that is meant to do this (remote desktop), and i'm sure it would work, though it wants to connect via gprs/wap. I am wanting to connect via activesync ( specificaly bluetooth activesnyc ).
I was told Terminal Services Client was the program to use, but I cant work it out. I've tried connecting on my pc's name and ip with the pc (xp pro) set to receive incoming connections, but i keep getting connection errors...
I can't find any help relating to this type of scenario on the net , so if anyone can help it'd be appreciated.
Cheers
you have to turn it one in systems of your pc
then you have to make a connection to the pc from the pda
then you start therminal services and type in the name of the pc
and you are there
Despite being connected by activesync, my xda 2 still trys to connect via wap (preseumably because it sees the GPRS in use already).
Has anyone setup terminal service client to work under similar conditions?
Wacking another post on this to try and grab someones attention...
Terminal services client via activesync on xp pro... has anyone seen or got a tutorial? I try using my pc's name as the login and believed I have enabled everything I'm supposed to on my PC , but still can't get it to work. I'm sure I've just missed something somewhere on the PC, but can't think what for the life of me....
Any help would be really appreciated.
well you should prob disconnect gprs
and maybe set the network to work or home or how ever you set it on under connections
my problem is as soon as i login with my xda2 then my normal user on the pc get disconnected and that disable activesync kicking off my therminal services client (the xda2)

Click to collapse
I'm activesync'd with my PC so the GPRS connection is via the PC if it wasn't there I don't believe I could get anywhere with terminal services.... as I said when I try and connect it doesn't find my PC's name and so begins looking for it on the net... which for some reason it tries to look for on wap (connects itself).
What I need to / want to know is what settings people have setup on their pc, and how having a firewall effects it?
unless your pc's modem is another xda then your gprs is not going though your pc
gprs is cellphone only
under connections you need to set up a network which dont connect to gprs
I have Terminal Services Client working fine on my XDAII to connect via 802.11b to a Win 2k Server. As far as I know the Terminal Server has to be an actual server and not just a ordinary PC.
i doubt it because on this xp pro i could use therminal services
when i turned it on
the only problem was that i could not use activesync as the connection
because when i login'd with my pda i the normal user on the pc would be loged out disabling activesync
Thanks for the post. spent a while trying to config before i read this.
Is there a way i can use remote assistance from my xda2. What i want is to use my xda remote desktop as a remote control for playing my mp3s and vids direct on my pc
you could use vnc if therminal services will not work without logging the desktop user off and so disabling the activesync connection
controlling vids and mp3 i cannot help but what i did was that... i switch user in the win xp pro and login using the terminal client so in other words the active sync connection will not disconnect. but i don't like the idea of having the whole desktop on my PPC it sucks having lesser space to control the computer but remote desktop connection is bette but tis a demo version that i can get hold off. Thinking of purchasin the full version soon once i have a stable bluetooth connection. my BT range sucks.

Tilt VPN Connection Problems

I have been trying for about 10 days to get my Tilt to connect to my VPN with my AT&T service. One time only while connected to the usb cable was I able to connect VPN and then able to run Remote desktop. As soon as I disconnected the usb cable, the connection died and I have not been able to reconnect. never have I been able to connect wirelessly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
wireless as with wifi or with their cellphone service?
if their service then if they block the ports required there is nothing you can do
I have been trying with cellular only.
Hi,
Use pcAnywhere to connect wirelessly.
kiwi992.
Please excuse my novice choice of wording....
I meant to say that I am having problems connecting over the internet side of the device as a stand alone connection. I have not tried wifi. My needs are to reset a modem server running a dial up program. If I remote desktop through my vpn I can use my current setup that I have for normal pc remote access.
Thanks.
Andy
Since I am having no luck with VPN......
I have been trying to get PCAnywhere installed but for some reason the install will not even give me the "other destinations" option to install (pcanywhere ver 12). Active Sync is running but the install just doesn't see the device.
Can anyone recommend a good vnc program for use with my Tilt WM6 connecting to my Windows 2003 Server?
Thank you.
No luck with the vpn.... yet.
No luck with PC Anywhere....yet.
The good news..... I have found a pretty decent solution.
Ultra VNC was setup on my server. VNC+ was setup on my Tilt. After the proper router port forwarding...... it's all working like a charm!
Going one step further. Both vnc programs were setup on my work station and can be run simultaniously. I can access my workstation from my Tilt and listen for a another connection on my workstation. A customer can connect to my workstation as normal and I can access the workstation from my Tilt. By doing this I can control my customers desktop through my Tilt/Workstation connection.
An added plus... my workstation can access all websites normally and through the vnc connection, they appear normally on my Tilt (yes in a small way, but they appear just the same.)
A pretty good alternative without paying the service provider for any additional monthly fees.

VMWare and Connecting to PPC WM6

I have quite a complex issue that I am trying to get round.
I am currently in an office using a company supplied laptop. To the connect to the company network I have to dial up using their broadband connection and VPN (Checkpoint). When this happens I am unable to access the local network and the regular network - split tunnelling is disabled (and quite correctly).
The web filtering in the company is very restrictive and I would therefore like to circumvent this using my PPC.
I had thought the best way to approach this would be to install XP on a virtual machine (using VMWare server) and bridge the connection between the WM network device and the XP client. Unfortunately, this doesnt work as checkpoint seems too clever for it.
My next thoughts were to map the USB port (with the WM6 Hermes attached) to the VM and connect using networking direct to the XP client (hoping this wouldn't disconnect when connected to the VPN).
Unfortunately the Hermes doesn't seem to be a mappable device under vmware as it doesn't show as a USB device in VMWare Server.
Has anyone got any good ideas?
I realise this probably falls into the 'stupid' post category.....I appologise now!
Cheers
Aidan
hi,
As far as i understand you are trying to connect your wm6 based device to your virtual windows environment.
there are a few things you will have to do for that:
1). You will need to have the host OS to recognize the device as a usb activesync or usb wireless modem (if using to dial to your subscriber)
2). In vmware server administrative console in virtual environment properties make sure you have the usb device added as a sync or modem.
try the above mentioned steps and see if it helps.
cheers

[Q] how to make free internet through useb cable or bluetooth in htc hd?

hi to all:)
i am new one on htc hd
and i want to use free internet through computer internet dsl
because in my country (EGYPT) internet with mobile is expensive
so any one help me for that?
thanks
Use activesync on phone and Windows mobile device center on pc. Presto.
i have windows xp and only the program which run in it is activesyne
and windows mobile device center can not run on xp
so any other program please?
Free though for advanced users: share your internet connection using WiFi ad-hoc connection.
I
Using Usb connection:
I don't have a big experience with the active sync, but it might have some configuration on that that allow the external devices to use the pc's connection. Beside that, configure your internet connection to be shared.
If you choose the wifi to connect the PDA to Pc to do that, it could work fine, but be sure to use a WEP encryptation, as the XP doesn't recognize newer security protocols, as WPA and furthers.
In both cases, configure your PDA to access the internet via "My work network". the way is: settings -> connections -> Network (or connections again, depending on the Windows mobile that you use) -> Advanced tab -> Select Networks.
Good Luck!
Stay in peace!
make sure "advanced networking" (or something like that) is enabled in activesync settings
