Xperia windage in upper sides. Is this normal after 1 month? - XPERIA X1 General

HI,
I have problem with the moving part of the X1 rattles, mostly in upper - right side /near Volume button/.
Is this normal?
When phone is closed and I press lightly upped and bottom side of my Xperia - I see that phone clatter. This is mostly in right corner, but nearly the same is also in other left upped corner.
I use my Xperia from one month.
I don't have software problems but i don't know is this normal or I must go to repair?
Thanks

Thanks again

What exactly do you mean by "windage"?

I'm also curious about this, because the only applicable definition of "windage" here would be air friction preventing him from pushing the button down easily, but I highly doubt that this is happening. Maybe he means erosion? I could imagine a way for one to come to a "windage" type of word for describing a similar effect to how wind can erode things.

I think he might be German -there is the word "Verwindung" which means somewhat like deflection in case of twisting. In my opinion he has the problem that when he presses onto to upper right corner the case the lower left corner travels up a little bit which is normal due to the mounting of the slider mechanism.

He means that the moving part of the X1 rattles. I guess that it is a little loose between the screen and the keyboard and when pressing it with its fingers he feels that the screen is moving downwards.
Unfortunately that's the case with mine, it has a very tiny rattle when I press the screen (tiny but I can feel it very easily) which is annoying.
I guess I will have to live with it.
Any other experiences about it?

Yes, I mean the moving part of the X1 rattles. Two parts: bottom part with keyboard and part with display - knocking, when I press them lightly.
I'm sorry for my bad English.
Thanks XavierGr!
When I press some of buttons I feel this move....
Maybe after few months this will be horrible.

Same with my X1. Have it for more than 2 month now and treated it like a raw egg...just wait and see...

If the rattle gets worse we are doomed. This thing will eventually break apart if it continues to rattle more and more.
I hope it stays as it is, it's a bit annoying but I can live with it. Time will tell...

Poor build quality.

I see other people have posted the problem with the stylus coming loose over time.
I also noticed today that the paint inside the ie button and to a certain extent the messaging button (the buttons above the screen) has been removed, it seems due to taking the device out of the holder all the time.
Anyone else think this is realy poor
Paul
yes i too think its a little lack-lustre.
the internet and messaging buttons logo's have both lost 90% of their paintwork.
i think it wont be too long until my keyboard becomes a little too easy to open. after all its only two little plastic notches which cause it to "snap in and out" once they have worn down a little then its gunna get ugly

Is that true ? I am going to buy one, you talkng about Qtek9100 or K-Jam or both???
i have kjam, but both are the same in terms of build
heres a cross section of the slider in action... when you pull it out the little notch "snaps" into the recess.. and the same when you close.
seeings as its just plastic i have a feeling that that will eventually wear down with use. i already think its become looser than it used to be from only having it a month
I have the qtek 9100 and do not have any oif the problems described above .... yet!!

upper part is shaky when keyboard is opened. Normal?

The part where the display is becomes shaky a bit when you slide open the keyboard
Is that something that I should be concerned about or is it normal?
I think it's normal. I've examined four X1a's and they all had a small amount of play in the top part of the slider when open.
Mine has also a slight play to it (back and forth). Noticed this on the Raphael as well.
Keep in mind though, that the slider is only supported by two metal hooks situated (when keyboard out) at one end of the screen. So guess it's normal.
The play will also increase as the phone gets older (wear and tear). As long as the screen doesn't fall off I guess it's ok.
To prolong the life though, I try to be gentle when opening and support the screen when it's open (to reduce the wear and tear).
Mine's shaky when closed. Went to the service centre thrice and everytime they said it was normal.
Mine is a bit shaky as well. even when closed, but afer giving it some thought, i guess it impossible to make it totaly solid, at least with this form. i annoyes me, though. pressing the keys and you feel how it bends a little. when opened, I am afraid to press the little x or soething else on top of the screen, at least without supporting the lower side with my other hand.

I support it when open, cause it's impossible to make it solid (@least not in this form factor). It's easy enough for me though.. cause the phone fits in my palm so easy (and way easier than other phones I've had - But I do miss the tilting screen from Kaiser though..then again, that needed major support when tilted)
I am new to this board, hello everybody!
I have my X1 for a week now. On mine the top part is shaky when closed, it moves ~1mm up/down opposite of the slider hinges. Anyone else?
It annoys me, but I hope it is okay and won't get worse.
Greets and have Fun with Your X1s!
i think it's normal. I noticed that as soon as I took it out of the box and was very worried. it's my first slider phone and i didn't know what was normal and what was not. reading threads like this was very reassuring for me. I just hope it won't get loose, if it stays like that, then i'm happy.
It seems really solid to me. No movement at all unless I push on it. I’m guessing it will loosen up over time.
same here, closed and opened. When I press gently in opposite corners when closed, it waggles slightly. I got annoyed/worried about this after purchasing the phone few months ago and went to the store to ask about it. I got to test three different X1s and they were all similar, so it's not a problem (or at least it's by the design
A bit annoying still though, especially when using touchscreen with your fingers. Mostly when pressing on the right side of the screen (down-right being the worst), it waggles slightly under your fingers.
Same here too. About 1mm up and down when closed, and when open, same.
And yes Jent, it does waggle a bit. Try using the phone when you're lying in bed, and hold the phone upside down... every press will move the screen about 1mm and it gets annoying very quickly.
i also have the problem with the upper corner^^

Capacitive button fix???

I have read a lot about the capacitive buttons on N1 being a little faulty.... it responds only when clicked on the upper half of the button... Just wondering if some developer here already found a fix for that...
If not, then is this a hardware limitation or some software glitch?
I think it's a hardware limitation. Once you get used to it it's just fine, but I agree it bothers me sometimes to have to touch it twice.
Some ROMs keep adding and removing the capacitive fix.
I dont see a problem.
You have to accept that they are different buttons.
-> On the screen I tab softly..
-> The cap.buttons, I hold my finger... (never tab it)
When you forget this, you tab on them like on your screen icons and you got to tab more times and start worrying about them...
I believe the capacitive button bug was fixed with google official OTA update.
I clearly had it before (had to hit on the upper part of the buttons) and now it's gone since the update
You can fix it? Mine is still like before.

They work fine if you just aim a tad high on the button. You adjust quickly.
What about the "area expansion fix"??
I have just upgraded to 2.2.. It still has problems with only the top half of the soft buttons being sensitive. I have also noticed that unless I'm holding the phone or touching the metal casing the buttons don't really work at all. It seems like a hardware issue. Although I do have thick skin from playing the guitar and rockclimbing. So I'm probably not as capacitive as the avarage user. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problems or even a fix?
Yeah I have to hit the upper part of the button as well. I would be interested in finding a fix for this too....
I'm running the stock OTA 2.2.1 rom right now if that helps any.
There is no fix, and the problem exists for all N1s ever produced. Hit the buttons on their top side.
I disagree, I hit mine bang on the graphic. Originally I did have to use the top but an update did fix it.
yeah there is no software fix for this its a hardware issue, i have to press mine on the top half, its never really bothered me though because most of the time i use my thumb and its so large it never misses the buttons hehe
i'd be curious to know though if the ones claiming that its fixed on their N1's how old their N1's are the newer ones may have a different touchscreen that had this issue fixed if its even possible to fix, if you look at the width of the screen border at the sides that is about equal to distance of the dead zone at the bottom of the glass so my guess is its by design and they may not have even been able to make that area of the glass touch sensitive due to how close to the edge of the glass it is

try to press them at the lower half only pressing on the graphic works fine on my N1 most of the time, pressing right above the graphic always works. if i try with my index finger to press the lower part of any of the graphics it never works.
Anyone on cyanogen vouch for it being a software issue.
It's not software. I've had 2 N1's, and both do this.
I've disassembled one of the N1's about 10 times, and I've seen the under-side of those capacitive buttons. The part that detects the finger is really small. Probably 1cmx1cm box. And it's naturally placed a tad bit above the actual icon on the capacitive button. Just hit the button with your entire finger, not just the tip, and it will be fine.
Or keep crying about it. It's not ever going to be fixed. It's the way the phone was manufactured.

Yeah lower portion is no-go, but dead center is bang on each time.

Bottom right corner loose?

Can any others confirm if this occurs on your device. With the keyboard out if I press the bottom right corner to the keyboard portion I hear a distinct sound like its loose or something..
Mine creaks when I push that area, I'm not to worried about it any slider phone I've had has done something like that when the keyboard is out.
Yes that's exactly the sound I was referring too. Creaks... Any others confirm? As long as others are experiencing this I won't worry too much...
like rsacipher said, just about every slider I've seen creaks a little bit. if that's all it is i wouldn't worry about it. however if the sliding screen feels loose or if there's a gap between it and the main body then i'd definitely have it replaced.

Questionable build quality or is it just me?

I dont know if its just my phone but try this. Close the phone, now from the bottom it seems that the left side has no gap and doesn't move when u press it down. However on the right side there is a slight gap and i press it down the phone will move. Also when i slide the phone out and use the windows keys the upper half touches the bottom half of the phone and make this faint clicking sound which is really annoying. Does your phones do that or is it just mine?
i've had three DVPs and each of them were built just fine. the slider worked flawlessly and there weren't any uneven gaps.
no gaps here and i haven't seen any for the ones we got at work - about 10.. but i wasn't really looking for it.

Mine has a slight gap on the right side too.
I question the build Quality of the venue pro as well.
I've gone through 6 of them and they all had horrible build quality.
I assume most people have crappy DVP as well, they just don't know it until they've seen what horrible quality is.
Get it?
For example, most people dont know they have bad vision until it is corrected by wearing glasses.
