I have a 8125 and have been searching for a way to extend the keyboard backlight. Has anyone figured this out yet.
Need reg editor (I use Resco, a free version that I used to use on WM03 was PHM RegEdit but I don't know if it's compatible with WM5)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight
Change the value of QKeyLedTimeout to whatever you like.
nope - doesn't work on the Wizard Works on the Executive though

I'm sorry, but if I do a search, the only thing i find is that it works for the HTC Blue Angel, and NOT, I repeat NOT for the Wizard. So please, if there is a way Badmojo69, tell us, because I for one wants to know, but searching the forum only brings up that nobody found it yet, so please let us know where you found the solution.....
And I really want a solution for this annoying problem....
I remember searching around recently for this same thing. The latest dated thread that I read mentioned that there was no solution yet. All the ones I did find with solutions, .cab files, etc. didn't work when i tried it.
Would like to know how though if someone has figured it out.
A
I agree - nobody has done this yet. Lots of people looking for it...
Yea thats what I thought but I was hoping someone figured it out by now.
I've read in more place than one that no one's found it because it's set in hardware. Can't say it makes that much difference to me but you'd better prepare yourselves for a long wait if that's the case.
Hey all, i really want this as everyone seems to rate it but when you download the CAB file it downloads two link files and an XML which takes you to opera - doesn't seem to want to download like a normal CAB file...still a bit new at all of this but if anyone can tell me how I actually get it installed and working I would be very grateful!
Thanks.
Try this version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3041910&postcount=37
Put the cab file on the device, find it on the device using explorer & launch it. It will install.
argh misicid
finally downloaded it didnt work and now cant uninstall searched here did what they said with the reinstall and now i have three dead nusicid icons !! any help please?
Getting rid of MusicID
Hey all, posted on this before but it seems to have gotten lost. I downloaded MusicID using the links people posted, never got it to work so tried to uninstall and it left an icon in my programmes, did what people said and tried to uninstall by reinstalling and now i have THREE musicid icons left none of which work - can someone tell me how to get rid of this horrid programme (which incidentally sadly doesnt compare with Shazam at all :-( )

This is the third new thread you have started on this topic. Please read the sticky at the top of the Forum and stop polluting - this is not a Helpdesk and you are not entitled to an answer.
I suspect diligent use of the search tool would give you what you need - I'm sure I remember seeing a solution
Thank you for your post.
There is no solution posted here as regards to uninstall (and my initial direction was as to "install"), or rather there is one that was posted to another member and does not work, indeed it is a problem many have referenced hence the inquiry (not a demand for a response).
There are many questions posed here with people asking for assistance and many people who are good enough to provide answers recognising that is part of the spirit of this forum - if you do not wish to answer the thread then there is no obligation to do so but I do not feel that people should have any hesitation in posting on any matter they may choose.
If by what your saying you mean there's an broken shortcut to the application under the programs menu that was left behind after you uninstalled the application, you can delete those broken links by going into Windows/Start menu/Programs. Here you should see all the .lnk files associated with every program you have on your phone (including the broken links for musicId). Just delete these and they should be gone. Of course needless to say.....I'm sure you've already uninstalled the application from under start-->settings-->system-->remove programs.
in /windows/Start menu/Programs folder remove the icons.
and i agree with iain.fraser, a simple bump to the original thread should have sufficed
Thank you for the help.
The icons are there when you go windows/start/programs (not in the scroll down start menu or the slide along menu but actually on the programmes screen which shows all programmes i.e just like the icons for all the other applications, activesync, camera etc...) and cant seem to be deleted from there and there is no option to delete icons ( this is following uninstalling the programme by "removing programmes").
Its always good to have a program like SK Tools and officialy uninstall the programs from there to make sure they are completely gone!
Hmmmm that's weird. What options do you get if you tap and hold using your stylus on the musicID icons? Coz well, deleting icons is a pretty straight forward process.

Your slightly hurt tone might have been avoided by your reading the rules of the Forum, which apply to you just as they do to everyone else here.
It is not your request that poses an issue, rather the three requests in fairly quick succession, which edges towards demanding.
Plugging the search terms 'MusicID' and 'uninstall' into the Forum Search facility at the top of the Forum returned two hits, the second of which is a thread around the coolest applications installed. Post 17 of that thread purports to offer a solution to uninstalling. If you have already tried that, you could widen out to other Forums, to the Internet as a whole, or even contact the developers of MusicID before bumping one of your original threads. Any of these would be fine - starting another new thread isn't.
Please do read the sticky - it might prove useful in future
Thanks i know its strange and frustrating - basically it created a new file called "ATT music", you click on that file in the programmes page (not the touch flo programme page where you can select and remove whatever you want but the windows programme page which shows you everything) and it opens a new icon saying "3 music id" i try to delete that by holding the stylus on it and it just says the file cannot be opened and to try reinstalling or restoring it. There are three such ATT files now on my system that i can't delete.
Hmmm...try deleting the files through activesync. Or as a last resort.....use SK Tools. It's pretty effective. You can download a trial version.
Good Luck.
Great thanks - i'll give it a go. help much appreciated!!!

Hi, Sorry to hear it did not work for you. Did you have .net 3.5 installed?
This is the link I used to find the right cab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3041910&postcount=37
I did read on another forum that the trick to uninstalling it was to install again on top and reply "yes" to the remove earlier version option and then cancel the install after that.
It works very well on my HD - I can sit in the chair across the room from the radio and it will pick up the music fine and after about 30 seconds it has done the sampling, analyzing and provided the track details.
It's not very good on classical music though !!
Thanks cheesy dave. I tried what the uninstall by reinstall and it just gave me another dead icon (now 3 as i tried it twice).
It's a shame as it looks like fun if you can get it to work. I think i have the old net compact (is there a way to check) maybe the first thing i should do is upgrade it.

Hi, you should know if you have .Net 3.5 as it needs to be installed separately. By default the HD comes with the much earlier .Net framework. So if you have to ask then probably you have only the standard. I would recommend installing the new version - there are links in this forum for it. Also, try the wiki pages:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Software
Many applications need the new version to work. I personally have no idea if musicid needs it. It does work fine on my HD and I do have .net 3.5 installed and set as the default.
Here is a useful link that has the registry key you can check to see what .net you have:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460006
I find the musicid fun, I doubt I will use it every day but now and then it will be good to have it available.
Regards, D
Here is the Microsoft link for .Net 3.5:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3c6b-42f1-9fd9-0041345b3385&displaylang=en&tm
(if the link is no good then go to microsoft and search for "NETCFSetupv35")

what happened when you tried SKtools?
I am soooo confused plss help
I am sort of new here a i downloaded windows mobile 6.1 and my hermes starts to the first screen then the second one freezes. The light is green at the top and not blinking anymore i really need help!
Did you Hard SPL your Hermes first? If the answer is "NO" There is a a lot of the chefs have that on their post, its pretty much PLASTERED ALL OVER this site. Its may take A LOT of reading to unbrick your Hermes, if ever.
Start here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369434
and here - http://www.mrvanx.org/
Good Luck...
Actually i did a hard reset by pressing the two soft keys then the reset button but thanks for the info.
Fingerprint Scanner?
Is there any software where you can unlock the hermes by touching the screen so it will read your fingerprint? Is that possible? That would be a great software.

To put it simply, no. It cannot be done with the current technology in our devices.

darn that would be cool. This is off topic but is there a rom where u can make the home screen just like vista? For example the icons and start menu. Also is there anyway someone can make a game for windows mobile to play halo that would be great. I heard someone had the halo thing but he custom made it and did not want to share it. By the way I LIKE SMILEYS
First, I want to know if there is a ROM that has vista icons for the today screen just like vista? Second, Also is there anyway someone can make a game for windows mobile to play halo that would be great. I heard someone had the halo thing but he custom made it and did not want to share it.
Merged & Closed your threads to save you from being flamed....
None of these questions warrents a new thread. Search and you will find re Vista looking Rom, if one exists otherwise there are ways to do it yourself without cooking a rom.
Suggestion, check out the links in my sig for pointers on how to get the most from this site.
I'm on a mission! These are the things that I want to change on my x1. If you know of a way to fix any of these then please please please let me know how.
Here they are in no particular order
1) Auto Que text messages
By this I mean.... if I try to send a text message with no signal I get a big nasty red message saying something along the lines of Message Was Not Sent. Try again? and a loud annoying beep to follow
What I want...... Is to be able to hit send, jam the phone back in my pocket and get back to what I was doing. Happy in the knowledge that if I didn't have signal when I sent the message, it will automatically re-send as soon as I walk into signal.
2) Find a free way of making video calls (I can only get skype to make voice calls)
3) Skin the text messages or find a text message panel to make it easier to use and less ugly
4) Add a storage card shortcut to my start menu
5) Stretch the landscape pin entry to full screen
6) Get the OK button to actually cancel and close things
PROBLEM SOLVED With WkTASK I can hit the x button then select "close" or "close all"
7) Stretch the landscape keyboard to the full length of the screen
PROBLEM SOLVED With Finger Keyboard 2 the keyboard is stretched across the full length of the landscape screen. Plus I no longer have to sharpen my thumb nail to a point to be able to send a text message
8) Totally Remove today screen lines (not just change the color)
9) Play Game Boy Advance Roms in full screen landscape mode
10) Remove "today" and recent programs icons from the start menu.
11) Stretch the top right cross button
I have installed gtrabs SEX1 "F" series Task bar icons and I love them. id also like to stretch the x at the top right of my screen to twice its width. To make it easier to press.
PROBLEM SOLVED With WkTASK I have skinned the x button its not allot bigger but it dose make it easier to press.
12) Make it easier to change tracks whilst driving
I have a sat nav style phone holder that sticks my x1 to my car windscreen in landscape mode, with the buttons out. I connect my x1 to my car stereo and pump out the tunes via my car speakers. But with the media experience panel its so hard to change tracks without looking, the button is so small its dangerous
PROBLEM SOLVED The driving panel is more than what I was looking for it has mph, track shuffle, sat nav button, and perfectly sized volume, track skip, and pause buttons, Xuanlong got it to me 10 days before it was released!
13) Stop the experience panel changing color I want it to stay ocean blue
bump (Thread updated)

Where did you get the on the road panel from??
(Pre Release) On The Road Panel
(Pobierz = Download) right click, save target as. some people have problems downloading I managed to get it to work on Internet Explore. Other new panels here but are reported to be a bit buggy.
On the Road Panel looks great, but the navigation button/config does not work
Where can I get my TT maped to the button?
now, that's just lame... this problem fixed by someone @ sonyericssonx1.proboards.com... it sort of sounds like:
'the xda community has once again proven to be unfriendly and unhelpful but thanks god someone at proboards helped me out there, so why don't you guys and gals all come along and let's help ourselves by posting links to stuff that's on xda'
come on dude, you could have just read through topics on this forum to see what's out there that might be useful or used the search option, most of the issues you had and wanted resolved were quick hits
To make the reply box larger in messaging you can use Total Commander to search for and edit the file thread_sms.htm in the windows directory. It's a hidden file so make sure you have 'show all files' checked when you search for it
Look for this line:
<inbox:content id="COMPOSESUBECT" width="98%" height=35 spell focus count .. .. ..
Change height (in this case 35) to 70 and you get 3 lines for text replies. Just change the numbers and see what works for you and soft reset after editing the file...
Still an ugly interface but much easier to use. Mine is set at 140.
Sorry, but I had to post this. I saw the other shameless plug for your site on another thread as well and didn't bother to comment. I hate people who say "this looks like an ad" and "you should use search"... but this looks like an ad and you should use search.
I personally don't really care if you want to share your website with others, my only issue is that you should give credit where credit is due.
Might want to change your post to read "problem solved thanks to X @sonyericssonx1.proboards.com WITH solutions that could have easily been solved by using the search function from XDA developers" since most of those tools came from here anyway (apart from the driving panel. wktask is a japanese program, but it was adapted into english on these boards).
But to be honest, if you cant use the search function here, it's probably best to post elsewhere anyways.
PS most of your other points can be found here as well. Just use search.

Classic QFT.
Like I said before, I have no problem with you and your board, but don't rub it in our faces every chance you get.
Again, most of these questions can be answered fairly easily using XDA search.
As I imagine it can be hard to do the storage card shortcut, I'll give you a hint on it. On your phone, navigate to \windows\start menu. There you'll find a whole lot of shortcuts. Copy and rename the extension one of them to .txt and open it. You'll see a nice and comprehensable path there. Adjust it, save and rename back to .lnk. You're all set!
For the shortcut problem (storage card): why don't you try the easiest way "copy"->"paste as shortcut" in File Explorer. That's the most standard way to create shortcut.

Damn you dudes are harsh. He has an awesome site. It's like XDA-dedicated to the X1. Give him a break?? He doesn't get paid for anything, and spends alot of time on that site; only to contribute to the X1 family.
And the comments of [email protected], come on?? No one here knows who some1 is if he just like posts 'xuanlong' or so, but he refers to one of the members of his site. I can tell you now that you wont find all of the contributors and be able to pm them if he just gives their nicknames?
Place yourself in his position before posting your 'comments'.

very very debatable... um, actually, very not true
Jeese, some of you guys are like spoilt little kids,
All this guy has done is to take some of his time to make a site dedicated to the X1 and simply gives you links to other websites that have some cool programs on them. It is actually very useful for people who dont have the time to go searching through all of the XDA site.
XDA is a good site but can be difficult to find things relating to the X1 specifically through the search when you only have 5 mins.
You guys are just slating someones hard work for no reason, if you dont like it then don't go to it and dont comment on it.

I admit, nothing will beat XDA, but this site is dedicated to the X1, much more userfriendly and easier to find things.
All we need is more members and contributions, and that site might become the number 1 Xperia site.
Just take a look at his site. If you don't like it, your loss. And keep your comments for yourself. If you do like it, help out a bit!

As for you other lads who feel like being windle's knight in shining armor, you're behaving just as bad by "bashing" those who oppose his website. Not everyone has to like it, but they have just as much right to post they don't as windle has right to post about it in the first place. Resco Contacts. It'll reskin the dialer, the call registry, your contacts and messaging.
PointUI Pro (unreleased).
Touch-IT v4.5 - The new Touchflo pretty much covers over the Winmo interface entirely.
There the ones i've used, others might have other solutions. Touch-IT is the best, but of dubious legality. PointUI will be great eventually, but it's still in early stages. Resco is OK, needs work but it's perfectly useable and better than the standard Windows Mobile stuff.

Gee, how could anyone find XDA unfriendly and unhelpful? I wonder... do you think... it could be posts like that?
Again, I love XDA, it's got good stuff, but all too often, on receives replies that are not friendly or helpful. My opinion is, if you dont have something worth while to contribute, dont bother replying, if it's just to tell them to search, or complain, etc.
And there's nothing wrong with giving a little credit where credit is due. I've seen plenty of links on other sites and blogs, crediting users at XDA in a similar manner.
Since you've already acknowledged some of XDA's perceived flaws, perhaps we could try to improve that image, rather than just taking shots at another site?

I just installed Windows Mobile 6.5 onto my T-Mobile TouchPro2. Now, the old, default windows mobile on-screen keyboard is gone. I know I'm probably one of the last people in the world who still uses it, but I use it because it doesn't take up a lot of screen room and I use the stylus a lot anyway for a lot of my applications.
Does anyone know how to get this keyboard back? Is there a cab file somewhere of the default windows mobile 6.1 keyboard I can download? If it's not possible, does anyone know of another option for a keyboard that is meant to be used for the stylus and is relatively small?

google "tmobile touch pro 2 screen keyboard sip" search search search before u post
I did the search you suggested to dshersze --"tmobile touch pro 2 screen keyboard sip" and all that came up is this page. I can confirm that the standard windows mobile keyboard has been removed from T-Mobile's latest ROM, and I've done a good bit of searching online without finding a .CAB for that ol' standard keyboard, or a way to tweak T-Mobile's new WM 6.5 ROM to activate it. So dshersze's questions seems reasonable, and not deserving of a "search before u post" admonition. akademik_acheeba, if you know where there's a page that explains how to fix this issue, could you post a link to it?
Thanks, Alan

p.s. what ROM are you using? is it the official TMo that came out today(not the leaked) or are you using one of the xda chefs? if it is from xda then this question belongs in that ROMs thread.
I am not missing my onscreen keyboard in the 6.5 TMOUS ROM, it is there as it has always been, maybe you shoudl reflash
I can confirm that the default WM Keyboard(the one that looks like a full keyboard and is really only suitable for stylus input or for people with microscopic fingers) is absent from the new 6.5 update (both leaked and official). To check this, pull up your SIP and enter the input options menu.
Here is what I use along with my options...
Thanks for the screenshots- they show that you do not have the SIP in question either. My guess is that someone decided that it wasn't a popular input method, however, I can see where this might be a preferred keyboard for stylus intensive input or for access to keys not found in most SIPs.
The T-Mobile 6.1 *Official* ROM called this SIP "Keyboard", and on the 6.5 *Official* ROM it has been replaced by "Transcriber" which on 6.1 was found under "Other Input Methods".
I wish people wouldn't be so eager to attack a legitimate posting without a clear understanding of what is being addressed. I think that most of us make a genuine attempt at searching for answers prior to creating a thread, but it seems like there are some that are just waiting to pounce without hesitation to accuse someone of not following forum rules. Give me a break, I know that not everyone here is an adult, but attacking someone with the insinuation that they did not do a proper search seems to have become far too common and does nothing to help anyone. Why not assume that a thorough search has already been attempted and rather than providing an admonishment and a slew of links (that I doubt had anything to do with the issue at hand) provide a reasonable explanation or solution along with those links? In my opinion, this is what these forums are for: a valuable resource of information and advice.

Score one for civility. We must remember that not everyone speaks English as a first language. In addition you can't search for something if you don't know the key words to look for. Everyone describes his/her issue differently. Just look at how akademik changed the terms he suggested when he posted his links. It seems that it would have been easier and better for the forum, if someone had simply posted a link to the solution. On another note, it is a great idea to use tags when creating new threads.

I agree with Treo, points for civility. Especially because the other guy who attacked the OP didn't even post any links relevant to what the OP was looking for. All I saw in those links were Finger Keyboards, and HTC keyboards.
OP wants the default WINMO 6.0/6.1 keyboard, with the tiny keys that, while only good for use with a stylus, is excellent for odd symbols. Like | for messing with the Manilla Weather editors.
Unfortunately I don't have information for the OP, as it seems likely that as many people have not liked that keyboard, support for it is all but gone.
The new keyboard function "Swype" has a pretty good symbol list to choose from.
Here's the thread for the TP2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597337
I guess I did have some info after all... I guess that's something.
as much as i help people on here via posts or pm's, no one knows how to use the search dropbox at the top or even google their issue to see if other wm sites have info on it. you heard about xda from tmo.com and now you come here for everyone to magically solve all your issues. all you people want is to point, click, download, install and be on your merry way...so stop being lazy, people here spend alot of time developing and perfecting things and if one lil issue goes wrong then yall complain. google what you want, and help others. as i see you guys posted here and not one of you have helped the issue but rather complained that i said search...oh well ill say it again...SEARCH
I like Swype, but anther decent SIP that I think is well worth trying is Finger Keyboard. One problem I have had is that some 3rd party SIPs will prevent my Rhodium from booting forcing hard-reset, but both Swype and Finger Keyboard work fine. One feature that I like in Finger Keyboard is the ability to assign text to a key such as an email address or password and it can switch between different languages without leaving the panel.
A way to bring back the default keyboard ...
Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4843610. It requires a registry hack, but it does work.
I'm not sure why no one likes a stylus anymore, but I prefer the precision that it buys me as well as the ability to draw on the screen. The old keyboard also has a CTRL key which allows me to cut and pasted from any application (even those without a press-and-hold context menu). I don't understand the desire to emulate the iPhone with capacitive touch screens but poor precision. If I wanted an iPhone, I would have bought one.

LOL! Spot on!
This is brilliant. You don't want to know how long I've been looking for a way to get the old keyboard back! Everyone seems to want keyboards that are bigger and can be used without a stylus - but I hate having the keyboard take over more than half my screen. This is an elegant solution! Thank you for posting it!
Edit - Rats! It says it can't initialize SIP CLSIDs for stylus status. Does the TP2 not have any way of telling whether the stylus is in or not? Grrr. So close, but I guess I have to keep on searching...

Looking for small Stylus friendly Keyboard
have an HTC Touch Diamond 2 with WM6.5. Since I have it I am not happy with the big keybord. Using the stylus very often, even with the big keyboard. But this takes so much space, even on my old Touch Cruise with QVGA I have more space thanks to the small keyboard.
How and where can i get a working CAB with the small keyboard from WM6.1 ?
Think it must be that in this picture.
