Hi all,
I know that the Extended ROM for the HTC Universal can be "unlocked" so we can move files in and out and delete files in the Extended ROM, but can we actually convert the Extended ROM space in usable space?
Either by:
1) Resizing the Extended ROM and increasing the default ROM size.
OR
2) Installing programs directly into the Extended ROM itself and running it off from there without any problems.
Many thanks!
Hi there,
1.) nope, is not possible - size is fix for default ROM and extended ROM
2.) yup, works fine - instead of just installing to main memory or storage card you then have a third option usually called 'storage', so you have 10 MB more to install programs to.
Happy installing
Pat
Thought I read somewhere in this forum about the extended rom would slow the Jasjar down.
Is it true? I would love to get the 10Mb but hate to see it slow down again...
Based on what I know, it is TRUE that we can unlock the ExtROM, BUT we cannot use that free memory yet, as of now. That is why even if you delete the ExtROM you would not see an increase in your UNIVERSAL's memory. The only good thing with unlocking the Ext ROM in the UNIVERSAL is so we can customize the Ext ROM to our liking. It will not act the same as the built-in memory. You can't store and run applications from them. This is in the UNIVERSAL, please correct me if I am wrong. BUZZ and the others are still working on how to merge the freed-up memory on the Ext ROM so that we can use it.
i have apps installed into my extended rom and it works fine, i have some games and tcpmp in there, no issues whatso ever.

WOW, how did you do it? How did you install apps in there?
copy cabs to sd, run them, choose extendedrom as the location, job done,
using buzz ext rom unlock and the reg keys to make it visible in the file system,
I agree with Carnivor - everything I installed on Extended ROM works fine.
I only faced performance issues when installing applications on storage card.
If Stanip read somewhere, 'extended rom would slow down Jasjar' -> Maybe the meaning was, that your Jasjar might be slow IF you did not install the software which came in the extended rom.
In my case I installed the software from extended rom (which is done automatically when first time staring the device), then moved all extended memory content to my storage card and enjoyed the 10 MB extra space to install programs.

Thanks, I guess I can try it the next time I perform a hard reset. What are your apps installed in the extension ROM. You mentioned that not all of them run smoothly from there?
Another question please, if I do install apps in the Ext ROM after running BUZZ unlocker and the registry tweak, does this mean the installed application survives a hard reset because it is now installed in the Ext ROM?
that is a good question, i imagine all will stay resident, but be hidden only needing the reg changes to make it visible again,
i dont really know, just assuming

Thanks. I guess I'll try it now. This is the only thing I hate, another hard reset. Why didn't I read this thread sooner. AHhhhhhhhh!
I'm running in Extended_Rom all pluiggins that used "today". I'm running this for weeks and goes perfectly.
If you want see applications, goes to my blog (in my sign) to see it. (Sorry, only in spanish)
Regards.

I don't see clear advantages installing on the extended rom except if you try to install more programs that the limit of the memory for programs, is it ok?
Thanks for quick help guys. Just a few more quick questions.
- Where did I find the registry hack to make the Extended ROM visible? I take it that it will make it visible even on the normal File Explorer and Resco Explorer?
- Will existing backup programs backup/image the data on the Extended ROM?

Also to leave more memory for exec programs and leave it running in background.
Regards
Can anyone confirm whether ext Rom is still available when battery becomes low?
Hey Ever1
just a quick question when you make the extended rom visible and install a software to run from the extended rom do you hidden the extended rom again or leave it visible.
If you leave it visible can you tell me how does the pda see the storage card has storage card or as storage card2.
Thank you
Gigino
i called my extended_rom ExtendedRom, else if you dont rename it you end up messy,
I leave it visible, it shows up in system stats that way
it shows up in resco as a chip based storage similar icon to the storage memory, but instead of the pda in the background behind the chip it has a folder behind the chip
I don't know how many times I wrote to this forum:
"DON'T INSTALL AND RUN APPLICATIONS FROM EXTENDED ROM"
because you can damage it. use storage card if you need more space.
Hey,
im using helmis 3.3 with latest radio rom.
I installed some appz after a clean install, then "rebooted" sometimes, continued to install... and then, when i wanted to remove an app, i saw that some applications arent shown in the "remove programs" application.
Any idea?
Same here
I have the same issue, Remove Programs dialog is empty, can only remove software through ActiveSync. I am on a different ROM; UNI.indra.AKU3.3.BETA6.
Funny thing is that it used to work before, but now it does not seem to work anymore. All I did was unhide my extROM and cleared it all out. Then installed Helmi AKU 3.5, and since I had some issues with that I restored Indra's ROM. Now I cannot remove software from the device, have to use ActiveSync only... maybe this helps isolating the issue?
I may install the extended ROM I was using again to see if this helps. Will keep you posted.
What size do you programs have in active sync? Some have a normal size like 1MB but all, which are not seen in the "remove program" tab, have 0KB size..
Some1 else noticed that?
Strange behaviour...
I wanted to get the Remove Programs stuff to work again... so I don't know what I did, but after I reflashed my Rom (Indra) and ran my standard extended ROM (from my provider). Then I did a hard reset and bypassed the extended ROM install... now I see all installed programs again (after installation through ActiveSync) in my Remove Programs option... strange behaviour and I do not know what caused the fix... But just to let you know that during your next Flash Action it may work again...
Fingers crossed...
Hi I'm hoping this is the right thread to post -
When trying to run some apps I get the following,
A native exception ocurred
Exception code 0x860000002
Exception address 0x00c68328
Ok to terminate, Cancel to debug
It's affecting several programs I want to run inc Pocket E-Sword, Tweaks2k2, and Caveman (all latest downloaded versions).
Phone - HTC Hermes (TyTN).
I'm running WM6 HTC official ROM but had the same problems running on HTC WM5 official ROM before flashing the phone.
The problems occur running the apps from either storage card or main memory.
Is there anything I can do about this and get these apps working. Help much appreciated.
Thanks.
After upgrading to the new official 6.1 ROM, I have noticed that in my startup there is a program called WLMupdate.ink, what does this program do? Would it be ok if i turned it off startup? Also do poutlook.ink and pocketnotify.ink need to start with the phone? I am trying to save as much RAM as possible.
Just reflashed the image on my phone to the latest Energyrom Sense 2.5
Since doing so, I have problems with Copilot Live 8. It appears to be an issue with the screen overlay as the menu buttons for Copilot are down at the bottom of the screen where this ROM has the start button.
When in Copilot the start button is covered up by the copilot screen and the menu buttons do not work at the bottom.
Any ideas on how to fix?
I am also using Co Pilot live. And while it does consume the full screen, hard buttons work just fine. I am using the Titanium only version, as I use SPB MS as my primary shell.
Have you tried uninstalling and reloading CoPilot?
I think that's by design for Copilot. Opera 10 and Mini 5 also hog up the whole screen. If you need the start menu, and you don't have a device that already has a hard start button, perhaps you can map one of your hard keys to the start menu w/ the Rhodium Keyboard Config floating around these boards.
I'm using Copilot 8 on an Energy's latest 21903 rom, and it works just fine.
I unfortunately cannot do an uninstall as I cannot select the up arrow in the bottom left corner when copilot is running.
I can do a re-install by running the CAB again and it finishes OK.
All other areas of the screen work, but since I cannot select the up arrow bottom in the lower left corner, I cannot change any settings, or modify anything. It's stuck once it comes up.
Ran find in the previous energy ROM I had loaded.
Reflashing to ER 21903 Sense 2.5 and will Re-Install copilot to see what happens.
I'm totally stumped on this one!
I've wiped the device several times with Task 29 and re-flashed with several different builds of 21903 with no luck.
Co-Pilot is on my flash drive and I have deleted the folders, re-copied from my PC and kicked off the CAB files again. Still no luck.
My problems started after putting on 23569 build which puts the start button right across the bottom of the screen where the copilot buttons are located.
I thought task 29 would wipe everything and get me back to start, but it appears that there is something leftover somewhere that is causing this.
Anyone care to give some thoughts?

Weird, I had problems with my tp2 after installing 23569 and loading copilot... put me in a bootloader loop 4 times. Not completely sure that this combo is involved, but the problems started after the maxmanila version of 23569 was flashed. For more details see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691984
let me know how it goes...
You could try this...
1. Hard Reset (with phone off hold down talk and end buttons and press the power button)
2. abort setup
3. start to bootloader
4. flash task 29
5. reflash HardSPL
6. Flash favorite ROM
7. Load Copilot
This sequence is what I finally did to overcome whatever broke mine. Keep in mind that I am still testing the fix AND I am not smart enough to know what I didn't need to do but it's working and I am using copilot without problems.
Hi all
I had the exact same issue.
When choosing the language during the installation the "next" arrow at the bottom of the screen didnt work.
The issue was with a 28xxx rom.
After in installed a 21xxx rom the issue wasnt solved.
Eventualy i reinstalled the original rom from the htc site....still no luck!
I noticed, on my sd-card there was one cab file for installation (copilot_wmsp.cab)
Om my pc there were two cabfiles: copilot_wmsp.cab and copilot_wmppc.cab.
Probable for use on an SmartPhone or PocketPC.
When i copied the files from my pc to my phone and installed copilot_wmsp.cab the issue still wasent solved.
When i installd copilot_wmppc, it worked perfectly. The configuration screen has a little diffrent layout, and that worked.
Now i have the latest energyrom 28xxx with working Copilot!
