My new Touch is great but.... - Touch HD General

Hi guys......
I got my new Touch HD on Sunday (previously had XDA Orbit & Orbit2) and I'm delighted with it but I have a couple of small problems and a couple of questions too.
1)I deleted the original demo tracks from the 3D music player and replaced with my own but now I have some blank grey album art between my own music album covers. It doesn't stop the music player from working and as you flip through it appears to flip over the blanks but doesn't look good. Is there a way of removing them.
2) I ran CoPilot 6 on both my orbits and I know its a bit out dated but I like it. Does anyone know if it works on the HD ? If anyone has any suggestions for a better Nav program at a reasonable price I'll be happy to consider it.
3)I've noticed ActiveSync keeps kicking in of it's own accord. Is this a bug or is there a legitimate reason (although I can't think of one).
4)Whats the best reg editor ......used to use PHM on the Orbits.
Any advice and suggestions welcome..........Thanks in advance.

I don't remember where the files are placed cause the first thing I did was track it down and delete both the music files as well as the album art, it should be somewhere on the main memory in my documents or in music.
2) I ran CoPilot 6 on both my orbits and I know its a bit out dated but I like it. Does anyone know if it works on the HD ? If anyone has any suggestions for a better Nav program at a reasonable price I'll be happy to consider it.
I tried to install tomtom 7 on my HD but gave up cause the maps won't work, but it seems some the forum members seems to have it working. I think you should search for navigations in this forum to get an idea of which navigation software works for you, its all personal preference anyway.
3)I've noticed ActiveSync keeps kicking in of it's own accord. Is this a bug or is there a legitimate reason (although I can't think of one).
You should try to kill AS as it sucks up battery and has no use when not connected, in the same way you should kill beam as well when you are not using bluetooth. Battery should last twice as long with both disabled.

4)Whats the best reg editor ......used to use PHM on the Orbits.
I don't know cause I haven't used one yet, don't really feel the need for it and I am kinda lazy.
Any advice and suggestions welcome..........Thanks in advance.

Newbie with my Wizard (XDA Mini S on 02)

Right so where do I start then... I hate coming into these things late as all the information thats about does get rather confusing. ROM's, Radio, Total Commander... urgh! And I'm not the most stupid of people, theres just so much info!
Right I have just got a 02 customise XDA Mini S
ROM 2.41.4.1 WWE date 9/3/06
Radio Version 02.07.10
Protocol Version 413.1.03
ExtROM version 2.21.4.101
I can only guess what all this is at the moment... I take it the ROM is the PDA software and the Radio is the phone bit?
My CPU comes back as a OMAP850 195MHz which I imagine is the same as everyone elses, as is the rest. Model WIZA200.
So I have my eye on a 2GB MiniSD but where do I start? Do I change my ROM? What software should I look at?
I like the idea of Wifi scanning, maybe a telnet client, Photo Managment, something like Picasa 2, And MP3 editing like, dB Power AMP or Mp3splitter. The rest I am unsure at present, I expect I'll need a MP3 player too.
As I'm a keen biker I'm looking for a GPS application? Any recomendations? Even the bluetooth GPS reciver too...
I hope this ain't to much and would love the help. Thanks.
Woah!!
Slow down a little!
Maybe i missed something, but you seem to have picked things randomly and decided you want them all!
The ROM is the PDA software, the Radio is (as you guessed) the phone software.
If you want to add a mini-sd card, just buy one and slot it in, its storage space, nothing more (like adding a hard drive to your PC)
As for what you want it to do...
Remember, its not a powerful PC so you wont be able to do a huge amount of processing on it, and while it is working hard on one thing, nothing else will work well (ie the phone!)
SatNav, i personally like TomTom, but there are several others, you will need a bluetooth GPS receiver to use any navigation software. There are loads of different types, i've never checked specs before buying, and never (not once) had a problem based on the hardware of the GPS receiver.
Your ROM is upto date (although there are other ROMs out there) so there is no real need to change it
If you have the O2 custom crap installed you may wish to remove it (search the forum, there are posts on how to...)
Basically decide what you want your phone to do, then look for software to do it.
You say you "like the idea of wifi scanning" but do you have a need for it? The built in software will find and connect to any available networks so do you need to scan and save networks? If you want to use your phone as an MP3 player, do you have a way to keep it charged? etc etc
Thanks Beeble...
You right about alot of stuff there, just hadn't thought about it like that though.

This bit as well, I imagine it rather eats the battery then, should be OK on my travels to work as I'll just charge it over the usb when I get there. Else I'll have to be carefull with the rest.
I'm still a little unsure about what to do about my 'today' screen though.
about your today screen....that´s just something you have to play around and find which plugins you like and find usefull. I got my wizard in April and still find new plugins that look better and work nicer.....
and since there are so many hackerfreaks in here there will always be nicer ones. Just keep on looking in to the forum every once in a while and you´ll find something new you like. that´s how i do it =)
Well, my advise is not to flash your ROM just yet. As far as I have read in this forum, getting the latest ROM doesnt seems to have much advantage over the older ROM. And, if you are a newbie as you claim to be, flashing ROM can be a fatal, if you do not know what you are doing.
Anyway, my advise is that, you read around the threads, and see what others are using for their phones, like weather forcast plugins, wifi scanner, and really mess up your phone, and prepare for hardreset (e.g. I have hardreset my phone in the first 2 weeks than all the rest of the time I had my phone).
As for your GPS, there are some threads with GPS discussion. Just do a search will do (thought the search function here isn't really helpful in many caes).
Anyway, for you information, there are way too much newbies in here opening thread like this asking for everything there is and expect answers to be fed to them. In most cases, it will be answered, but I think there are a lot of pros around tend to ignore threads like this (yours). For a more productive gathering, do searches.

I did have a search about but there was nothing that I could put my finger on, though I am tryin to keep a eye on the forum from day to day to see what I can pick up.
I know from other forums the phpBB search utility is a bit... naff.
If you have not already ordered your minisd card - I would highly recommend the mobymemory 2gb minisd - currently £39.99 here http://www.mobymemory.com/1GB_2GB_mini_SD_miniSD_Memory_Cards_fromSanDisk_and_MobyMemory.asp
tip on search - use the word 'and' between each word and it works much better.

2 things from me:
Normally, i'd be in the same boat as Hanmin, if you cant look, why should i tell you. But in this case you were just soooo chaotic i thouhgt i'd start you on the right lines!
and the 2nd. Scanning the forums every day or 2 is a great way of seeing what your phone "can" do. Your life is the only way of telling what you're phone "needs" to do.
I use sat nav about once a month. my phone is good enough for it. if i were to use it daily, then i'd buy a sat nav system (tomtom go etc, or even a 600mhz pda just for sat nav). I dont use it as an mp3 player, but occasionly play a track anyway - my ipod is much better at the job. I DO use the calender every day, and have a today plugin to see my schedule. i work shifts and have to be able to see if i'm working on the xday of xmonth in advance. If you dont have a calender, then the feature is no use to you.
Basically, you need to work out what you want the phone to do. if all you want to do is play & expirement for now, i'd suggest getting another phone (propper phone) and using that for calls while you customise (and break, and hard reset etc) your wizard (because you will, 100% certain!)

If when you get to work you have a computer (I was assume so from the the USB charging comment), why dont you listen to MP3's on that?
I don't want to put a downer on your post, but remember that as some one said above, its not as powerful as a PC and the more you try to do on it the more it will slow down, then you might start to hate it.
I use mine everyday as a phone, for the calander, and for task reminders, play the odd simple game and sat nav once in a while. For those purposes its a fantastic device. I have a computer to surf the web, an iPod to listen to music and a window to see how the weather is doing.
With regard to the today screen, depends what you want from the device..... so a search for "today screen" on the forums, there are a few threads with many peoples todays screens on here.
For my today screen I use SPB pocket plus and SPB Diary, both of which work very well
Happy playing!
Its just I spend alot of time on my bike and the Mindisc I have jumps a bit, though it still does the job. So I though I could maybe play mp3's though this, save carrying more then one device. I spose I could invest in a high capacity battery.

[INTERFACE] PointUi Home 2

Hi,
Just thought I'd start a post to see what people think of this interface. Personally I love the stock TF3D for the diamond and have just added nocurtains and backgroundallpages to it and I cant wait to get the TF3D from Diamond2 onto my phone, but Im always trying out new interfaces to improve usability - I still hate going into windows mobile contacts, messaging, etc.
From testing it seems to have no bugs that I can recall so far (tested of HTC Diamond running Duttys latest version - btw, thanks to dutty: having been using your ROMs for a long time and have always been happy ). Overall customisation seems a lot easier than for TF3D and new 'applets' are being pumped out all the time. You can even 'flick' through all messages with a preview for all inboxs without getting into the windows mobile interface, although you have to enter it to read the full email or to reply/forward. Im sure that improvements will get rid of this in the future though.
Anyways Im adding it on here because Im sure some people will like it and you dont get developers better than those on XDA so maybe we can make it into something really usable?
The only things keeping me on TF3D at the moment are the lack of multiple cities in weather forcasting, lack of music playback from the home screen (no music app currently available) and perhaps a home screen applet that is a little fiddly.
Nevertheless the experience is very slick - no pauses or 'stuttering' in transitions. I will keep testing but let me know about your experiences .

There are already several threads here on XDA about Home2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459706
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482036&highlight=home2
I know there is also one in the Xperia forum...
Bug reporting is done in a thread over at the PointUI forums.
SMS works fine for me on Home2.
Looked interesting, but whenever I hit "home" on my diamond it went to a black, blank home screen. Also no built in media player applet yet. I usually listen to music for about 30-45 mins in the morning, and I don't want to fiddle with the classic media player.

I am aware that pointui development forums are everywhere right now, but thought it would be nice to see what diamond users think - i still think that after diamond2, the interface and usability of diamonds/touchpros is probably the best around for windows mobile.

Yea I know the lack of music is a bit annoying, but I think an applet for it is in development, and considering the throughput of these things at the moment I dont think it will be long before one is released .
Did you disable TF3D and enable Pointui from settings? Also is you TF3D the stock one or is it another one (e.g. Pro version)?
has anyone experienced crashes with it? it worked fine when I first installed on my diamond, now when I open, or soft reset and it loads, I get the RSS hub thing, but it stops spinning, and just crashes, and phone requires soft reset.

Two things I needed help with

Hi all,
This is my first post on the XDA forums
I bought a Touch HD a few days ago and absolutly love it but I'll be honest
and say that I think it's far from perfect, but I think the same thing about the
iPhone, Android etc.
Anyway's the first thing I wanted to know is, when you click the Windows icon
in the top left-hand side screen it shows the 7 programs you want listed but
also 4-5 recently used apps. Is there a way to get rid of the bit that shows
these 5 recently used apps?
Maybe a registry tweak?
The 2nd thing (which has been bugging me since I got the phone) is, in the
programs tab in TouchFlo 3D. How do you move the position of the programs.
I like to have my programs in a particular order and when I add a new
program to that tab, I find it ridiculously silly that I have to delete an app
first and then put the one I want in it's place. Am I doing something wrong
cos I just can't seem to work this out.
Could I also ask whether you guys recommend any good system utility
apps that can keep my device fresh and clean, not slow and cluttered.
I tried HD Tweak yesterday but to be honest wasn't overly keen on it.
Thanks for any help

If you don't like HD Tweak try Advanced Config or SKTools, both attached
As for your queries:
2. Not sure there is a way to move these programs about into a particular order. You'll just have to stick with removing one and then replacing it
I may give the other 2 tools a go as well then.
I've heard Advance Config could be buggy at times though.
I still can't believe there's no solution for problem #2. Deleting programs then
replacing them is so long when you've got a massive list of apps. I'm sure the
iPhone has a solution for this, makes me wonder why HTC didn't implement one.
Anyone got a solution for my first problem as wel LOL
Cheers for your help Fallen Spartan
EDIT:
Just wanted to say thanks for recommending SKTools. Looks to be exactly what I was looking for.

Cheers mate. Will try that out today then
Anyone got a solution for my firtst issue?
It p*sses me off with the amount of space the recently opened programs

(REQ) "Letter-scrollbar" in Music Player!

Hi guys
Really love my HD2... Nice hardware, nice software (with help from cooks) etc.
I have one problem though... The music player!
Im one of those who LOVE music... And lots of it
The problem is related to how you navigate to artists etc... Its so slow! I mean its totally smooth, but the fact that you have to slide your finger for like 10 sec, to get to the bottom, (If you have a lot of music) is a pain... On the iPhone there is a "Letter-scrollbar", from where you can QUICKLY slide to the first letter of the artist you want to hear
There actually also is on the HD2!..... In the "all people" tab! EXATLY what I want is on the HD2, but in the wrong tab (Well its actually also kind of handy to have in the "all people" tab, so no complaints there )
My question/request is: Is it possible, for some hacker extraordinaire, to take the "letter-scrollbar" from the "all people" tab, and implant it in the Music Player. In the artists section preferably
Hope sombody can pull it off!
(I also posted this in the "application" section)
Bump! .......
+1
Loved this on the iphone
+1 I totally agree, since I use my phone as my primary music player
agree, this would be indeed very usefull!
would be very useful
Thanks for the support for this feature.. Guess we have to wait for someone to actually pull some magic out of his/her sleeve..
+1 Bump I would love to see this happen
+1
I love HTC sense music player this is the one little thing missing. Please help
It's something that is definately needed for the music player, also a search function is something really needed
any update on this? a search would be Great instead of Scroll thru 1500 songs :-(
install pocket player...that is the only work around
+1 & Search function please
+1 for this, although I have pocket player installed just for this reason.....its also a very nice looking music player too tbh..

The second sentence is very funny to me. The only thing missing!!!
I also like the Sense Music Player--its integration into Sense, the very cool cover art display in Landscape Mode, etc.
I also agree that it would be nice when scrolling to have letters at the side to help scrolling through a long list.
What is funny to me is "the only thing missing", as I have had several very serious problems with the Sense Music Player. It is extremely buggy. (This thread isn't the place to discuss all the problems though, as it is about the letter-scrollbar, and I will join in on that request.) (More important to me, though, would be if someone could fix the serious multiple database problems with the app.)
+1 for that

My new HD2

Well, I finally got my HD2, and have been getting to grips with it for about 2 days now. Pretty steep learning curve but go it connected to home wifi, and I'm just considering which apps to put on it? I apologise in advance if I ask a question that's already been answered, and only ask that someone point me in the right direction? Happy posting!
For a beginner!!
Perfect free tested apps for HD2
Co0kie's Home Tab 1.8.5 and its editor (a must have app finally for customizing the home tab)
Midomi (song recognizer)
Datacontroller (controls data internet connection)
Skyfire (IE with flash support)
coreplayer (best player)
Nimbuzz (IM collected)
Dragonball (cooooool game, luxor style)
Openwebradio (free international internet radio but needs TCPMP)
Mp3 trimmer (cuts mp3s to use as ringtones)
Reboot
Omniano the band v 1.1.2 (best free music instruments collected)
IGO8 (best GPS navigator)
Stopwatch
Getytv (download youtube videos)
Omarket (free app market)
TCPMP (player)
cleanRam
uconvert (best converter)
Duttys task manager for Leo (brings back the top right corner task manager)
SPB TV (awesome international internet tv)
Mp3 tag editor
Scilor's groovemobile v13 (retrieves songs from a database to listen to and be added to playlists for later playing)
Scilor's groovedownloaderwm (downloader for songs)
SciLor's LeoCameraAnyKey (allows capturing of photos thru the volume keys)
BSB tweaks (cool tweaks for the HD2)
JWMD icon changer (change app icons and themes)
Experiment 13 (cool game with nice graphics)
Just search for them on the site or try googling!!
Welcome to the world of HD2, Enjoy!!!
In case u don't know how to install....
The files' extension is .cab
Transfer the app thru bluetooth or by usb cable then search for the file then install it, i recommend installing the apps on the storage card except for BSB tweaks, datacontroller and skyfire better to be on device.
Try to save all the source files (the .cab ones) in a separate folder on the storage card for later reference .
My 2 cents.
First off coreplayer isn't free but it is worth the cash. Also look up wifi remote access premium. Again not free but it's only £5 on ms marketplace and it is probably the best application i have. It allows you to transfer files, edit the registry and remotely control your phone, amungst other things, over wifi.
Secondly, once you have got to grips with your new gadget, look at installing a new rom. It's probably the best thing i have done to mine since i've had it. New roms third party roms include a lot of the free apps and usually increase the performance of your Leo. I prefer the energy standard series but there are tons of other options.
The brilliance of owning a windows mobile or even an android based device is that they are extremely customisable if you have the willing and patience to learn how to do it. You are right, the learning curve can be steep, but it is totally worth it if you put the effort in.
As a side note, there are some apps (coreplayer is an example) that use activesync (or windows mobile device center) and an .exe file on your PC to install the program on to the phone but to be honest once you get your head around everything it's not too hard to figure out what you need to do to install any program.
Hi I'm a new member to this forum and just placed an order for a t9193, pretty excited waiting for the phone to come in. I wanted to ask what is a recommended rom if I wanted to dual boot winmo and android. I'm kind of new to the smartphone market so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best place to ask that question is in the android boards. There is a sticky thread that should cover all your questions.
from personal experience I thought "omarket" was a great place to start as most apps mentioned can be download from there . You might have to register/download the app through the website then after installation use the app to download other apps from your hd2. The website Is www.freewarepocketpc.net
Sorry for the delay in getting back. MANY THANKS Sevo!

Damn Straight
The only thing I would recommend from omarket is the htcaddicts cleanram utility.... but I think you can get that on xda.......
Seeing as nobodys mentioned Cookies Home Tab yet I thought Id throw that in the mix......... Have a look at the CHT thread
Once you've got your apps sorted you can spend the rest of your life trying out all the different sense modifications / themes that are out there......
oh yea how can we forgot CHT??
re my earlier post, i meant to say omarket is a great place to start in terms of downloading your first app that was it ...but xda is the dogs bollocks you dont have to look elsewhere

Pretty steep learning curve but go it connected to home wifi, and I'm just considering which apps to put on it? I apologise in advance if I ask a question that's already been answered, and only ask that someone point me in the right direction? Happy posting!

Calm down and try app one by one.
And also follow any instructions CAREFULLY.
Don't forget to read any warnings.
T8585
Hello everyone,
I got my new T8585 last Saturday. Had a hard time sync contacts from Outlook 2010 (64-bit), finally found that it is not possible and had to install outlook 2007 and then do the all importing exporting and sync. Finally was able to get that done yesterday and have all my contacts moved to HD2.
Still not sure how to feed in the aniversary/bday reminders as i was always using Nokia before this device.
Have not customized anything yet, just able to configure the WiFi and 3G and copy contacts.
Also my vendor said that if I change ROM, my 1 yr warranty would be void. So not thinking about modifying ROM (1.48.720.2 an Radio 2.05.51.05_2).
I have noticed that the battery is really poor with this devide, specially if I keep the WiFi on. Are there any tweaks to modify the battery life?
Any suggestions to make most of this device will be great.
Thanks for all the help and advice.

Thanks richteralan. I've got about 7 apps on my device now, and read the reviews instructions/feedback carefully before deciding which ones to install. Many thanks for the advice tho. Much appreciated.

Yet more thanks conantroutman! CHT was one of the apps that had the biggest influence on my decision to get this bit of kit. I've now got it installed, along with NET3.5 and CHT editor. (salute)

Welcome xprav. You've come to the RIGHT place to get the answers to all those questions! I had mine about a week, and am enjoying it immensely! I plan to mod the rom eventually, but I'm in no hurry just yet. There are plenty of tweeks and mods to try before you do that. I'd start with Cookies home tab & editor? Install NET3.5 to get it up and running first tho, and check in regularly for advice/guidance?
how do i install net 3.5 and where can i get the CHT editor from? will be great help, thanks
i would also like to know that why CHT Editor is so important, looking for the same on google too
