As newbie, unlocked SIM, the signal strength appears excellent 4/5 bar but problem with in/out connection. The top icon changes “H” (99% of the time), “G” and “3G”, when H is showing, couldn’t get any connection even if the signal is 5 bar. With “G” and” 3G” I’m able to make and receive calls, any ideas is appreciated. Many Thanks
have you tried flashing a new radio rom?
installed HARD-SPL
installed radio murata 1.58.21.23, then 1.58.25.14 (for better signal)
Could the SIM card be too old - had it for 5 years?
Thanks

The 'H' usually means you are sending or receiving data. Sometimes you won't be able to make voice calls when the device is transmitting or receiving data. In Comm Manager (settings>communications) there maybe a setting to turn off the data connection. Additionally, depending on what ROM you are using, there is a program called HTC EndKey that will also terminate the data connection. If you can, try to make a call with the data connection terminated and see how you go.
thanks for all the help, it works

Hello,
I have a DOPOD D810 and using with Vodafone-SP. When I have the 3G on the calls least about 11 seconds (sometimes 9 seconds) and without 3G (the old GPRS) the phone calls work perfectly.
Anyone had the same problem or know why it's happening?
sometimes, when iam connected with pc (usb) and share internet connection to it. i dont try it with gprs.
but when i have 3g connection without pc, works perfect
Is HSDPA in your region? Because i think i have read some posts where the HSDPA implementation makes that problem. Just turn off HSDPA support and see if its ok.
i dont know, but icons switching between 3g and H
i'm having the same problem too. The calls will drop in less than 10secs in 3G mode but with normal calls. Checked with the network provider and the Dopod HQ. Network provide says it could be the hardware problem and the Dopod HQ says it could be the network problem.... this is making me sick. And some Expert says this is normal to PDA's 3.5G phone.
Basically I can say that depends of the cell, I mean, sometimes 3G calls works fine and sometimes not, usually the ones who doesn't work fine are in different 3G cell (becasue I'm in different location).
So, can be both, a network problem (some software or hardware in the cell antena) and the phone (who don't 'talk' with the cell properly).
I search and a lot of spanish Vodafone users (Trinity) have the same problem.
just noticed that after softreset the 3G signal becomes perfect and calls signal will stay strong. But after i awhile without making calls out or incoming calls. Then the nightmare happens again. Checked with the Dopod hardware HQ, they says if the 3G signals drops then the GSM will drops too. So, it couldn't be the hardware unit problem.
I am on an AT&T 8525(see signature) running WM 6.1. I am in an area where my phone shows that I am on AT&T's network in the southeast US with 2 bars but I have no service. I cannot make a phone call although I occasionally receive a call, I cannot answer it. I also cannot get any data connection to work except the occasional SMS message. My wife is on T-Mobile with an 8125 and she has about the same coverage although she can make and receive calls about 90% of the time so there is no doubt that we are on the fringe of coverage.
I've tried changing the network band on my phone with no luck(trying to see if for some reason T-Mobile is on something different than AT&T). I tried upgrading my radio ROM as well to see if that would help(see sig) but didn't change anything. In other areas, with just the one bar of signal strength I've been able to make calls 100% of the time. It's only this one area that gives me fits.
I have FieldTest.exe on my phone but must admit that other than looking at the pretty numbers, I don't really know how to interpret the results of that app. Any suggestions?
Rick
I am having same problem, tried something like 3 roms , and it sometimes work for a while then stop working again, i was a new rom when i found it was making calls but no 3G connection, i tried another rom, made few calls then now it is unable to connect to anything , please let me know if you find a solution
I've looked extensively on this site for the answer to my issue so I apologize if it's already been covered. I have an Xperia X1i on the AT&T network using one of the numerous custom ROMs on this fine site. As I understand it, I am not getting 3G capability on my cell phone. However, I've read conflicting things on this very site about that. I apologize for the length of this description, but I want you all to have a full understanding of my issue as to minimiZe the back and forth. Here is my problem: When I'm at work on the 12th floor I get a block H (presumably the data indicator) and a smaller H (presumably the reception indicator?) with one or two bars beneath in the black area at the top of the screen (where all the icons and time are located). Most the time it is one bar, but occasionally I'll get two. It, from time to time, randomly switches to an E indicator (on both the block and the reception indictor with the bars and I'll get upwards of 4 bars) or a 3G indicator (again, on both the block and the reception indicator with 2 or 3 bars). On rare occasions I'll get the G indicator, but it doesn't last long. Whenever I receive a call and the H indicator is on it immediately hangs up after I push the button which accepts the call. This happens all the time. If the 3G indicator is on I'll be able to speak for 3 seconds before it the call is summarily dropped without warning. If the E indicator is on, then the vast majority of the time I'll be able to conduct a call just fine. I don't recall ever having a call with with the G indicator. Obviously, this is unacceptable. How do I turn off the H and 3G at work and still maintain the E for both voice and data while I'm at work? I've tried disabling the HSDPA/HSUPA capability through the Connection/Advanced Network tab. After a soft reset the phone settles onto a tenuous 3g that drops after a call after a few seconds (the situation I described above). Is there a way to just have Edge for voice and data for when I'm at work through some setting/software or do I just have to get another phone? If anyone knows a reasonable solution to this, I'd be really grateful for the assistance. Thanks. Bye!
May not be the best option, but if you go to:
Start
settings
connections
Advanced network
You should be able to change the option in the HSDPA/HSUPA to disable.
This will stop the H and G icons in the toolbar and should allow you to connect to your edge network.
Alternatively you could look at getting an X1a for US networks.
try this: phone>settings>band>select your network type>gsm. Soft reset. Well...?

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion, but in my description I had noted that I have already tried this and it only turned off the HSDPA/HSUPA and not the 3G.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. This seems to have done the trick. I'm cautiously optimistic and I'll update tomorrow since this will require further test. Again, thanks a million! Bye!

Hi,
Just wanted to update you on your proposed solution. It seems to work great. I've had Edge for the balance of yesterday after I tried your suggestion and this morning I switched the band to GSM again and it's kept that setting. Thank you for your prompt solution to my irritating problem. Bye!
Maybe a time controlled 3G activation/deactivation would be a good solution?

Hello there!
I have a HTC Hermes phone.
Where I live there isn't 3G coverage at all.
When I am in places where is good 3G coverage the phone works well on 3G networks.
When I use EDGE or GSM networks it fails randomly.
I cannot make phone calls, and people whose call me get the sound "The call partner is not available."
Now I am using Windows Phone 6.5.
When I used other versions it wasn't work either.
Now I have radio 1.41.00.10
What settings should I use?
Please help!
Did you try to turn off (UMTS) 3G?
It is in CommManager?
Thanks for your reply!
Yes, I have tried this, it change network type to GSM, and network to EDGE.
But, after that it does the same.
Calls sometimes work, sometimes not.
And all the time the signal quality is almost full.
But I run into an other thing.
When I want to set to send my Caller ID, I tap get settings in the Comm Manager, it shows the message "Cannot read settings from the network. Try again later or disconnect data connection and try again"
What data connection does it mean?
im sure this usd to work, but recently ive noticed it doesnt. when im in a call, my data connection disconnects. normally this isnt a problem, but sometimes i will want to look something up on the internet while in a call. like i said, im sure this used to work, but now it doesnt. im on t-mobile UK with an unlimited data plan, i have a near full HSDPA signal. im running the CleanEX DsE v15 ROM with Radio 2.11.
any thoughts
should work on 3g, not on edge or gprs
don't be confused by the left hand network symbol showing an H, that's just what your network is offering. the signal bars icon must also be showing H
i have a H as the left hand icon, and a little h above the signal bars. when i start a call, the smaller h changes to a picture of a phone. if i try and use any web features it just times out. when i hang up the call, my data connection seems to have been disconnected, as it shows a T shape above the signal bars, then changes back to the H after a few seconds
