Hi, I just installed Screenlock:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14621
1 hour later my Xda Mini S which has worked fine for weeks is completely dead. It won't respond even after removing the battery, pressing the reset button, holding on/off. Even plugging in the charger doesn't make the LED light. This was all after I locked the screen with Screenlock, and tried to unlock it again.
Any ideas at all what on earth is going on or how to get back to a working state?

Enter Bootloader, - hold the "camera" and shortly press the reset button, don't release "camera" until you can see color screen, connect USB cable, and start to flash any ROM you like from ftp...
Okay, I have followed your directions exactly, but the device is dead beyond even that. Nothing happens whatsoever
Any other ideas?
Have you tried Hard reset?
What exatly have you tried when flashing?
Did it enter into bootloader?
Was the plugged charger original one?

Yes, hard reset as directed in the post above.
I cannot flash, because the device won't even switch on, as explained.
Not even bootloader - nothing. The device just doesn't do anything.
I have tried 3 original chargers including a car charger. Additionally the device was fully charged when it failed.
Has screenlock worked uberhaupt ?
What does uberhaupt mean?
Screenlock worked for an hour as I said, but after an hour it wouldn't unlock the device and we have the situation I now see.

when the device wouldn't unlock was there a graphical view or complete dead view ?
The screen was, and still is, completely blank as though off.

Then i think it has nothing to do with the program screenlock.. you have just bad luck with youre MDA... it is just died...
Bit too much of a coincidence that. An hour after installing Screenlock, a program which switches the screen off and prevents you pressing any keys... my screen switches off permanently and I cannot press any keys... at all! :?
Continuing from the other thread... as I said, I have no problems.
As far as I know, it just runs in the background, intercepts button presses (like any other button manager), and detects whether the device's screen is brought back to full power - and switches it back to zero power again.
If it installed itself as a Startup item, you should still have been able to proceed to the Windows Mobile splash (if any)
If it were a device driver that loads firstmost, then you still should have been able to get to the manufacturer splash.
Even if it were to install itself in the extended ROM, you should still have been able to access the BootLoader.
I simply can't think of anything, other than mechanical failure/etc., that would cause what you're seeing.
That said, I'm sure people are sufficiently put off from downloading ScreenLock now
Update to this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=213698#213698
(Replacement Mini S is also dead! Is battery the cause? Please reply at above thread)

EDIT: just fixed it... seems the battery got ultra drained somehow ... went from 90% - 0 in 30 min... i dont know why that happened
that's wierd...Mine would not turn on yesterday. It just had a blank screen with the Green light on around the joystick (like it was fully charged). So I soft reset and nothing, still green light and blank screen. So set it to bootloader mode and ran mtty to check it out, Mtty tests were normal and nothing seemed wrong, tried reset, check for bad blocks, and the normal info and task commands, everything looked normal, but it would not boot up...took out the battery and waited 10 minutes, still green light and blank screen. Charged battery still same issues
SO I tried to hard reset...still same thing,, it asked to confirm hard reset, looked like it did hard reset, but still same problem..
SO I finally, put it in bootloader, reloaded the wm6 HTC__001 rom and it worked fine, Restored from backup and I was back to normal...But I was starting to get a little scared that some how my advantage was bricked...
Haven't had any problems since....Wierd

There are two main methods:
1. Try using the search function.
2. Read the wiki.
Try either of these and you will suceed. Ask without doing either and you will become unpopular!

the device powers itself off if the battery overheats.
take it out and leave it for a bit
same problem here
same here, after doing Olipro's AthenaUnlocker step 1 and went to Bootloader mode to check spl version. my device is stuck to its bootloader mode & when i soft reset the only thing that will turn on is the led light of the joystick. is there a way to bring it back to normal mode from bootloader mode?
thanks in advace!

Typically this is caused by some software running in the back ground. Try to disable anything from running and then re-enable one thing at a time and see if you can isolate the problem. Sometimes it's two programs conflicting with each other so you may have to do some experimentation here. Hope this helps.

Yes, something about flashing a specific version to your device but since this never happened to me i don't have details. Feel free to search the threads....i know it's somewhere at the top. Have fun!

I had my ameo also drawing 1,5A from the battery (actually powerdrain was higher than charge current) Never found out why.

Hi all, i just got a Qtek 9090 with WM2003 (ITA). I upgraded to WM6.1, but now it has some strange problems: first of all, when it goes in standby, sometimes it doesn't wake up. If i have to reset it, most of times it doesn't boot (it shut down before WM loads) or i get R: None G: None and i have to reset again (otherwise the phone won't work).
The lock at the boot doesn't happen when the phone is connected at the USB port (i think that's because it charges, maybe it's a battery problem?)
Another thing is that i can't turn it off: if i hold pressed the power button, it deactivate the backlught but the device stays on, and if i make another long press, i get the backlight back again... I had this problem also with WM2003, maybe it's normal?
What do you think? Whan can i do?

Have you make a HardReset?
The correct HardReset, not only reset and press Power button!!!
See in my HowTo Section...
and why not WM6.5.5 see here
yep, hard reset is a good start, but about your other problems:
the device does not really turn off, like other phones. pressing the power button makes it go to hibernate, the display turns off, depending on your settings, it locks the hardware buttons and it shuts off wi-fi, it hardly uses any energy but gsm/gprs stay on.
the device seems to be off, yet the phone is one and you can be called. that is the closest you get to switching it off. when you turn on airplane mode, the battery consumption is even less so there is not really a need to turn it off.
pressing and holding the power button always was for the backlight. many other devices open up a shutdown menu when you do that, that would allow you to turn it off, soft reset, or switch off the backlight, but for the BA, that is not the standard. however, if i read it right, d-two is working on remapping the power button, probably for that cause.
the R: none G: none issue is known and not a problem with your phone, whenever you run out of power or remove the battery for a second, the next boot will be w/o radio (R and most roms don't allow booting without it. that's why you get stuck there and have to perform a soft reset. back in the days of wm2003 i used to remove the battery when the device froze to reset it w/o the stylus, because it didn't matter then. with cooked roms, it is different, just like the booting splash screen or the way to perform a hard reset, many things change on a cooked rom.
the issue with waking up from standby, or the SOD (standby of death) is an issue, that most likely has something to do with a backup, restored after flashing another os, or maybe you didn't perform a hard reset, as stated by d-two. you should do that, now that the device is still new, you have nothing to lose
also, read through the tutorials posted by d-two and myself, whether you missed anything while flashing.
The "real" hard reset is the one i can get by pressing camera + record button and reset? If so, i already did it after flash (i use d-two 6.1 Manila ROM in WWE)
It shows me 3 options, i put on YES "Clean Registry Hive" and "Format Storage" then i press the mail button, the screen become white for a while and the next boot al seems to be ok.
It seems, because after some time i get again the "standby of death" and, if i press the reset button, the most of time it won't boot up again (it turns off before i can get to WM), if it works phone doesn't. All these boot problem can be avoided by connecting the phone to the usb cradle, so maybe it's also a battery problem, i think...
@ d-two: i'll try your new ROM, however before i've tried your 6.1 ROM
I've already read your guide because i've got Windows 7 and i couldn't flash without your tutorial
NEWS: installed d-two new ROM, after flash i made the hard reset selecting the second and the third options, then i get the blank screen and, when viewing the htc screen, it shut down itself like it did before
As always, with the usb connected, it has no problem :\
It can be battery power - battery is old, and it doesn't provide current [A], or voltage drops [V] and phone think, it's empty.
Maybe you can try with new battery, or buy 2 nokia bl-4c batteries and repair orginal battery (somewhere on forum there is a tutorial about that - but use bl4c, not bl5c like in tutorial - bl5c are too thick to fit)

That's what i was thinking (and that's i hope it isn't)... Now with another recharge cycle it seems to be good also with cooked ROMs, i hope it's solved
Maybe you just have to charge/discharge it for 4-5 times, and it will restore it's capacity. Mine BA was turning off when battery indicator was showing ~60-70%, and now I'm waiting for new battery (i destroyed original )
"charge/discharge it for 4-5 times" does not have an effect on Li-ion kind of batteries. This is probably a software problem. When you turn your phone on (after removing a battery) it always shows "None" for R and G, so just press Reset button and it will be ok. I use Reset to power it on Then you can flash 6.5.5 which doesn't have problems, and do a hard reset. There should be no problem at all..
I also got the problem with the stock ROM :\
The R: None G: None error is the less important problem
Got any luck fixing it? I've had similar problems before, sometimes it turned itself off when the battery was at 60% in WM2003. Did you update to d-two's 6.5.5?
Yes, now i'm running d-two's 6.5.5 ROM.
No, i still had the problem Yesterday i called to the assistance service and they said me to remove the battery and after a while recharge it.
I put off the battery yesterday at 16 and i put it again in the phone this morning at 8, i charged it but i still have the problem
This evening i called again and they said me that i have to send it back, i'll flash the original ROM and send it on monday.
That's a shame, i really like this device, even if it's not mine, my sister uses it and she's not a pro user, what a waste
Didn't understand, what "assistance service"? This is very old phone, I just can't believe it has some kind of warranty
I have another battery, and using it the device turns it off sometimes while it's in the stand-by mode! Don't know why, the voltage on it is fine, I have measured it while working...

I bought it on an eBay market and it offered 60 days warranty. It's not official HTC/Qtek warranty, but it doesn't make difference, as long as the device will work
If for you it happens only when it's in standby, maybe you just have the standby of death, the problem Chef Tony was talking about at post 3?

I updated my phone (HD2 T-mobile) via internet website and when I finished the updating process, the phone did not work at all.
I tried more than once to switch it on, but it didn't respond. I took the battery out and put it in again, but nothing happened.
When I connect the phone with the charger, the charger light doesn't become on.
It seems that the phone is dead!!!. What do you suggest to solve this problem? If you think it is a hardware problem, what is the name of this hardware

Like Kurt already said, look at battery pins, but also clean battery contacts (wipe them clean with a clean, soft cloth)! Meanwhile take your SD card out in insert into PC. I do not know which ROM you have on your phone, but extract the RUU.....exe file to your desktop. There will then be a file called Custom_RUUsigned.nbh. Rename that to leoimg.nbh and copy to the root of your SD card. Reinsert SD Card into device and reinsert the battery. Try first if device will switch on. If not, take battery out again for 10-15 mins and reinsert, then press and hold vol down key and then press shortly the on/off button. If this works, you will enter bootloader screen and the ROM will be automatically installed into your device. Alas this also means that you lost all off your data on the device (hope you have a recent backup!). If this also doesn't work, try another battery. If that also does not work, send in for repair.
good luck and regards, Kuzibri
It's rather remarkable: you're HD2 died - as you state it - and you do not react to a possible solution for this problem! Or was the reply of Kurt enough to send it to HTC service? I had this problem numerous of times amd was able to revive it also all these times with the procedure I suggested to you.
If Kurt's reaction, which is of course right and logical, was enough to send it to repair, I really do not mind that and understand it, but it would be nice to get a response from you about what you did with your device, certainly when someone spends time and energy to try to solve your problem. Might also be possible that you're just away/not around and not available to answer. In this case, just forget this message or see it as not send.

Hi folks, that´s a strange one...
After a short 30 min car trip, the battery was almost drained out (and the screen was lit)... but I was sure it was indicating almost 50% when I got into the car!
Then... when I tried to turn it off (I mean standy by mode - the last hard button to the right), the screen blanked out and... came back on again! Tried it a dozen times and the same weird thing happened. Took the battery off and on again... nothing´s changed.
When I plugged it to recharge, the screen still refused to keep off. But... when I unplugged the USB cable, everything got back to normal condition. Tried to plug it again to continue recharging... and the problem came up again...
What could possibly be happening? Thanks for any info on the subject.
Regards!

Sometimes, by time, the End button "Awaken/sleep" button may become stuck.
Try to push it and release slowly (wth? that won't work, I know, but I'm trying to get you all the available solution before making you disassemble the device)
Try to hold the button with your fingernails and pull it, see if the problem is resolved.
(Either way, you will end up fixing it permanently )
Or just try sucking it out/back into original position
Sounds stupid but worked for a friend of mine.
Hi guys, thank you for your replies, I´ll add a few coments here...

I´ve already tried that (because I also thought it was stuck), but nothing has changed. Also, the problem ocurred only while it was recharging... after I disconnected, the problem disapeared [check update below]... so it wasn´t some "button-dependent" behavior.

Sorry mate, but I couldn´t understand what do you mean by "suck it out/back"... is it something like the fingernail procedure from the quote above?
[updated]
Ok, after a while it started to keep the screen on (actually it awakes in less than a second after I press the end button) even after I unplug the USB cable.
What I did next was to shake a little bit the USB connection while it was plugged, and the problem disapeared again - but only while the cable is disconnected.
It looks like a USB connection problem. I´ll try to clean it with some isopropyl alcohol and get back to you with results.
Thanks again!
It happened to me a couple of times that touchscreen behaved weird (acting independent of my actions) while phone was on charging, but I concluded it was a cheap wall-charger that determined that behaviour (also USB related)?!
Maybe I was wrong, I didn't insist...
