Hello,
I have tried searching but have not found anything within this forum, probably 'cos I am a SFU. ;¬)
Anyhow, is there a way that I can get iTunes Podcast subscription and download functionality on my HTC Nike?
I am hoping to find (or be told of) an application that I can view a catalogue of podcasts, subscribe to them, have them auto downloaded to my PC and then the next time I sync my Nike the podcasts are uploaded to my phone so that I can watch them off line (when on the train)
I use my iPod for music (easily done on the Nike) and for video podcasts and I would like to do it all via the Nike.
Any thoughts?
TIA
Cuch
also intrested of podcast.... anybody?
I have been digging around and it looks like searching under PoadCAST is not the correct thing to do. Search under PodCATCHER and you will find a few apps.
Have also discovered that I can simply copy the vid/podcasts onto my memory card and all is well.
I belive that you could go someway in doing this via Windows Media Player on your PC, but have not had enough time to dig further.
HTH
This may seem a stupid question to all you clever people My previous phones have sort of integrated the music and video's from my storage card to the video and music icon's on the phone.( never had windows phone)
Can I only access these files via file explorer/storage card????
Can anyone help????
Music
Ok don't panic.
Good on you for taking the plunge.
It is not like itunes which is a clunky, crappy way to do things.
Do you have a pc?
If so, use Windws media player to convert cd's to mp3's.
Or use Nero.
I personally use Nero, but there are many ways to convert files to mp3.
If you already have mp3's then all the better.
You can copy them to your sd card and then go online and the HD2 will find album cover art for your music.
pm me if you want help.

Hello all,
I was curious about the possibility of editing the windows/Transformers.exe to allow you to place other movies into the sd/transformers folder and update the exe allowing you to utilize it as a movie browser/selector. I placed some other movies into the folder and renamed it "movies" however I do not know how to edit the .exe to recognize them or even if this is possible.
I would be curious if this is possible as it would allow you to place shortcut on program grid in Sense for faster/easier browsing of movies.
Does anyone know of any way to place link to a folder into grid. If this were possible the issue would be mute.
Thanks for any input regarding this!
Transformers doesn't have a separate movie browser. It uses the HTC vid app. Its just the way the movies were formatted that make them look so good.

Looks like you didn't really read the OP, I think he's asking if there's a way to add movies to the list that you see after launching Transformers.exe
To OP:
I think it may be possible depending on much of the assembly is hackable

My bad... Reading is fundamental! I'm going to assume there has to be a regedit that points to the transformers movies.
I know this is a lame answer, but why not just put your movies in a folder and fire up file explorer?

Sense style file explorer would look like that, that's why.
Okay, okay. Resco 2010 can be themed to look (and act) a heck of a lot like sense, and it supports thumbnail previews and all sorts of rich media browsing experiences. And it's just a file browser, too.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I will give that a try. I suppose a better solution would be the ability to link to folders thru Sense interface rather than having to open a file explorer type prog.
For now I suppose a folder in the start menu will have to do. Thanks again!
I will try encoding a video file to the same specs as the Transformer movies and put it in the folder. Although I have noticed and mp4 file will use that video player to view the file.

How can we find out the specs for the pre-loaded Transformers movies? And what do you recommend we use to convert movies we may have on our PC's?
connect you phone to your comp as a disk drive. then go to the transformer folder and right click on either file and click properties
Interesting Question
I could be completely reading into this wrong, but let me throw my two cents in.
My buddy and I were discussing how we loved watching the Transformer's movie, especially because you can use the seek function without leaving full-screen mode. If you use windows media player, when you tap the screen in fullscreen mode it immediately reverts back to windowed format.
Someone else had already mentioned above how the transformers.exe uses the HTC video player. However, if you open a program in File Explorer it uses Windows Media player. Basically, I wanted to be able to use the HTC video player for all my videos.
Thankfully this is possible to do, it is just annoying. Here is how you can watch videos using the HTC player:
1) Start Menu > Albums
2) Tap on "Albums" at the bottom left-hand corner (softkey)
3) Under Storage Card or My Device, tap on My Videos (or the name of the folder where you have your videos)
4) Tap on video
By doing this, you can utilize the awesome HTC video player!
I hope this helps with what you were trying to do.
Yeah, I tried the same thing as going through the file explorer isnt one click access (unless you always leave it in the Movies folder). Here's one alternative, but the GUI needs a little work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520604. It would be cool if someone picked up this project and improved it just a little. But, it works at least though.
that program would be awesome if it's polished up.
Yea, I was kind of wanting to encode the movies to avi to save space. I didnt know how to get the shortcuts to link up with the other movies instead, so I havent done it yet.
how bout a shortcut

i too tried in vail to add my movies to the transformers folder in file explorer, is there a way to add a short cut to my movies folder in the quicklinks?
maybe you guys can help me out...
i removed transformers from my sd card and onto my computer in an effort to conserve space.. but now i realize that i'm not gonna use all the space.. so i decided to put the movies back on sd card.. the only issue is that now my transformers shortcut.. doesn't work.. it gets to the page where i have to click either transformers 1 or transformers 2.. then when i select one of them.. it states that the media cannot be found..
so yea.. i was wondering if anyone can assist me in making that shortcut work again... i'm assuming that i have to direct a file using a registry editor.. or something... i think something along those lines.. i can't imagine this being really all that hard.. so please someone help me out and kinda guide me through it.. any suggestions?>

There has to be and I just haven't found it yet. When I just copy past a shortcut, it never works when I go to the start menu and click on it. Although, if I'm in Windows folder and click on it, it opens the Movies folder.
thanx

Try reinstalling the transformers.cab with the movies already present in \Storage Card\Transformers
hi guys, this is my first post, and i am haveing some issues with my tmobile usa htc hd2, first off, i just got the phone in the mail this morning, so all i know about it is what i have gathered from the internet (not that much)... so, i am haveing trouble putting movies on it. i have a bunch of mp4 movies that i use on my ipod, but the only way i have gotten one on my hd2 is to put it on the phone memory, which means one movie takes up almost all the space, so that just wont work, and i need to know how to put them on the memory card.
also, id like to know how to install co0kies home tab, i have downloaded everything i need for it, but i dont know how to get it on my hd2.
any help on either topic would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Pbleonidus
connect to usb, when usb to pc connection popup comes up choose active sync, then go to my computer (on pc) you will see a new device called something like 'pbleonidus's hd2', click to open that, you will see tw3o devices, one called \ and one called storage card.
Open the storage card one, and drag your files there.
Same for installing apps, drag the .cab file to the phone and then on the phone, browse to the file and click to run it.
Alternatively, when the usb to pc connection popup comes up choose disk drive, and teh storage card (and only the storage card, you cannot see teh phones internal file system unless you choose active sync as above) will show up as a removeable drive in my computer
Download ActiveSync 4.5 (xp) or Windows Mobile Device Center (vista and above) from microsoft. It's a much better way to browse your phones File directories, including the 16gig storage card, in my opinion.
This would also solve your second question regarding the CHT cab file. Drop it in whatever directory you want on your phone, (via activesync) then use the phones File Explorer to find that location, and execute.
ok, so for CHT, i just drag the cab file to the sd card file? do i put it in any folder, or just into the main sd card folder?
also, same thing with the videos, can i just put them anywhere on the the sd card or does it have to be in videos?
A handy little site for all of you...

ok, so i can just put cab files anywhere on the sd card, and browse to them, and click them from the device, and it will install things like CHT?
what if i want to go back to stock, can i just delete the file, or is there a process? and i think i got the movies to work, i just need to finish syncing a few...
By and large you can put anything anywhere you want, provided you know how to get to that location once you're browsing on the phone itself. In other words, you drop a movie in folder X, you need to know how to tell whatever player you use to open that movie from folder X.
Rule of thumb is to be clean and tidy about it, much the same way you would your pc. Personally, I drop the .cab files into My Documents, as it's easy for me to find from the File Explorer within the phone. Once you see it just tap and execute.
Once you execute a .cab file, you will be asked to install, then presented the option to install on Phone or Storage Card.
A program like CHT, or CHTEditor, or BsB Tweaks, I personally install on the phone itself. Any other Application or Game or what have you goes on the Storage Card.
If it's a program that's going to drastically change the way your phone operates (CHT), install it to the phone. Anything else on the storage card.
That's just my own conventional wisdom however. I think of it in terms of execution speed. You have to think something installed on the phone itself will run faster than something installed on the SD card.
thanks jimbonics, that helps a lot, and what if i need to go back to stock, can i just delet the cab file, or do i need to go through uninstall process (if so, how do i do that)?
also, do i need to run the programs in any secific order once they are put on the device? example: for CHT, do i need to run CHTEditor, then CHT, or doesnt it matter?
CHT first, then the editor.
For removal, simply go to Start-->Settings-->Applications-->Remove applications.
CHT is just a Sense 2.5 modification, so you aren't actually moving away from what is typically referred to as 'stock' (being a T-Mobile ROM over a cooked ROM), but I understand your meaning.
And, once you install a .cab file, you can then remove it from the phone, saving a bit of space.
You may want to archive it on your pc however, in case you ever need to do a hard reset. You'll find it'll help get your phone back to where it was much faster if you save all the cabs you install on your pc.
also, for the fixes that i downloaded, like a swype fix, opera mobile fixe, and something else, do i do the same thing as i would for the cht files, just put them on the sd card, navigate to them, and run them?
If they are .cab files, yes.
ok, i think i have everything i need, if there is anything you think i should know, im all ears. if i need anything else ill ask. and i appreciate the help so far.

This thread will probably give you a lot of useful info as a new HD2 owner:

i havnt tried any .cab files yet, i need to get the other issues sorted out first.
im still haaving troubles with movies, i have about 30 mp4 movies and only about 5 of them are working on my hd2? whats up with that? when i click on the other movie files, it shows a black screen with a loading symbole for like a half second, then goes back to to the movies list. on the ones that do work, it shows that screen, but for like 1-2 seconds, then starts playing the movie... i really need to get these problems fixed, because, although i love the phones big screen and awsome camera, im not to impressed with much else, i dont want to have to sell the phone, after only owning it for a day...
mp4 isnt a filetype in its own right, it is just a container filetype (same with .avi files).
Inside it is a video file and an audio file. When you open the mp4, it uses a splitter to divide it into audio and video streams, and then codecs are used to decode the two streams.
The problem is these can be encoded with one of dozens(hundreds?) of different codecs, meaning two mp4 files can have completely different format video/audio inside them.
THis may not be the problem, but i would hunt down some kind of codec info prog (i use 'gspot' for avi files, dunno if it will work for mp4s, i dont have any) which will tell you what codecs the vid and audio streams are encoded in. You can then compare that to the supported codecs on the hd2, and take it from there.

i also have the files in .avi format, so what do i do with this 'gspot'?
(and last night i have been installing a bunch of .cab files, i have CHT, CHTEditor, BSB tweeks, and a bunch of other tweeks! they work flawlesly! YAY!)
also, would the fact that i dont have the factory sd card make a differance here?
when i got my phone off ebay, the guy sent me a 2GB sd card, so i had to use the 16GB card out of my old phone....
also, how do you get to the registry to make tweaks? do i need internet to do it? because i cant get any on my phone...
and also, what is the today tab, and how do you turn off htc sense on it?
Does anyone have a good recommendation for syncing iTunes playlists? I've been doing some google searching but haven't found a solid answer. I've tried a program called TuneSync which is suppose to sync playlists OTA.
It seems to only partially work for me... it has copied the music files over, I can browse them by artist or genre... but the actual playlists don't show up.
Any ideas? TIA!
TAXI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is Taxi?
I've tried TuneSync, and now have tried DoubleTwist. They both do the same thing, I can sync the music files, but the playlists themselves don't show up.
I browse the SD card, and I can see all the M3U playlists sitting there. If I try to open one manually, it says File Type Not Supported.
Does this phone not handle M3U playlists???
Been doing some more reading, it sounds like the SGS doesn't support M3U. Weak.
So how the hell do you create playlists other than manually on the phone itself??? I'm completely blown away by this glaring lack of functionality. I expect this type of behaviour from Blackberry, not Samsung.
iSyncr for Android is supposed to support play lists in iTunes.
It's limited unless you buy it though.
Give Isyncr a try. It's the best solution I've found so far. It syncs over USB it's quick and handles Galaxy playlists perfectly.
The really neat thing is there's nothing to install on the PC. You install ISyncr from the marketplace, it copies a EXE to the SDcard or SD (which ever you choose). Connect the Galaxy to the PC and then run the EXE on the PC. The program opens Itunes and you select playlists.
It has options to remember the playlists and remove items not in the playlists (from the folder you select). It doesn't have wireless syncing but I think that's a small price to pay for the speed.

I gave it a try. I'm on a Mac, but same kind of deal, after connecting to the computer I run the computer version of the program.... it comes up and tells me I don't have a valid license. I mucked around with it for an hour, read some support forums, eventually got frustrated with it and uninstalled it (got refund on android marketplace).
So I'm still at a loss.
I'm on mac and isyncr works fine with me. I don't remember what I did though. I surely paid. I select a playlist and it is uploaded to the device. I have to use parallels with kies (awesome work by samsung, btw /irony) but isyncr is ok with my mac no VM needed.
(I'm realizing now I'm not the only mac boy going into android. I guess Mr. Jobs is somehow pushing us out. That's my feeling anyway and sorry for the offtopic).
+1 for isyncr. Works really good on a mac. Supports podcasts as well. well worth the 2.99 bucks!
Does anyone know where, in internal memory or on SD card, the phone stores its playlist files?
I have created a couple playlists on the phone itself. If I can find where those files are stored, maybe I can open it up in a text editor, figure out the formatting/configuration, and then write something simple to generate playlists that work with this phone.
TIA!

Lol. Sorry, an attempt at humour seeing as you're on an android forum talking about that piece of sh1t software they call itunes. You don't have to use it, yet you do?
How about 'get your coat' ?

iTunes Agent works great!
With any competent file manager app that allows accessing the network (SMB, SFTP, Bluetooth), you can simply copy your itunes directory (or any portions there of) to your phone or sd card.
You don't really need a sync app unless you have a REALLY large library.

Hahaha gotcha. Yeah, I absolutely hate iTunes. But I've been with Mac so long now that I'm significantly invested in it. My library has over 200GB of media. It would be a nightmare to export it all to another solution.

Like I said, my library is so large that syncing playlists is the only real way to manage it all. I don't want to listen to a single artist, album or genre, hence the need for playlists.
Haven't been able to figure out where the playlists go myself - this would be good to know for future development.
I have noticed that I can add playlists using WMP 12 - the only problem is that if I try to resync the same playlist it seems to append the contents of the existing playlist on the phone... odd. I basically delete the playlist on the device when I want to resync from the computer.
