Transformers.exe as movie browser? - HD2 General

Hello all,
I was curious about the possibility of editing the windows/Transformers.exe to allow you to place other movies into the sd/transformers folder and update the exe allowing you to utilize it as a movie browser/selector. I placed some other movies into the folder and renamed it "movies" however I do not know how to edit the .exe to recognize them or even if this is possible.
I would be curious if this is possible as it would allow you to place shortcut on program grid in Sense for faster/easier browsing of movies.
Does anyone know of any way to place link to a folder into grid. If this were possible the issue would be mute.
Thanks for any input regarding this!

Transformers doesn't have a separate movie browser. It uses the HTC vid app. Its just the way the movies were formatted that make them look so good.

Looks like you didn't really read the OP, I think he's asking if there's a way to add movies to the list that you see after launching Transformers.exe
To OP:
I think it may be possible depending on much of the assembly is hackable

My bad... Reading is fundamental! I'm going to assume there has to be a regedit that points to the transformers movies.

I know this is a lame answer, but why not just put your movies in a folder and fire up file explorer?

Sense style file explorer would look like that, that's why.

Okay, okay. Resco 2010 can be themed to look (and act) a heck of a lot like sense, and it supports thumbnail previews and all sorts of rich media browsing experiences. And it's just a file browser, too.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I will give that a try. I suppose a better solution would be the ability to link to folders thru Sense interface rather than having to open a file explorer type prog.
For now I suppose a folder in the start menu will have to do. Thanks again!

I will try encoding a video file to the same specs as the Transformer movies and put it in the folder. Although I have noticed and mp4 file will use that video player to view the file.

How can we find out the specs for the pre-loaded Transformers movies? And what do you recommend we use to convert movies we may have on our PC's?

connect you phone to your comp as a disk drive. then go to the transformer folder and right click on either file and click properties

Interesting Question
I could be completely reading into this wrong, but let me throw my two cents in.
My buddy and I were discussing how we loved watching the Transformer's movie, especially because you can use the seek function without leaving full-screen mode. If you use windows media player, when you tap the screen in fullscreen mode it immediately reverts back to windowed format.
Someone else had already mentioned above how the transformers.exe uses the HTC video player. However, if you open a program in File Explorer it uses Windows Media player. Basically, I wanted to be able to use the HTC video player for all my videos.
Thankfully this is possible to do, it is just annoying. Here is how you can watch videos using the HTC player:
1) Start Menu > Albums
2) Tap on "Albums" at the bottom left-hand corner (softkey)
3) Under Storage Card or My Device, tap on My Videos (or the name of the folder where you have your videos)
4) Tap on video
By doing this, you can utilize the awesome HTC video player!
I hope this helps with what you were trying to do.

Yeah, I tried the same thing as going through the file explorer isnt one click access (unless you always leave it in the Movies folder). Here's one alternative, but the GUI needs a little work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520604. It would be cool if someone picked up this project and improved it just a little. But, it works at least though.

that program would be awesome if it's polished up.

Yea, I was kind of wanting to encode the movies to avi to save space. I didnt know how to get the shortcuts to link up with the other movies instead, so I havent done it yet.

how bout a shortcut

i too tried in vail to add my movies to the transformers folder in file explorer, is there a way to add a short cut to my movies folder in the quicklinks?

maybe you guys can help me out...
i removed transformers from my sd card and onto my computer in an effort to conserve space.. but now i realize that i'm not gonna use all the space.. so i decided to put the movies back on sd card.. the only issue is that now my transformers shortcut.. doesn't work.. it gets to the page where i have to click either transformers 1 or transformers 2.. then when i select one of them.. it states that the media cannot be found..
so yea.. i was wondering if anyone can assist me in making that shortcut work again... i'm assuming that i have to direct a file using a registry editor.. or something... i think something along those lines.. i can't imagine this being really all that hard.. so please someone help me out and kinda guide me through it.. any suggestions?>

There has to be and I just haven't found it yet. When I just copy past a shortcut, it never works when I go to the start menu and click on it. Although, if I'm in Windows folder and click on it, it opens the Movies folder.

Try reinstalling the transformers.cab with the movies already present in \Storage Card\Transformers

Video on WMP

I'm having some trouble. . .
On my Wing, it seems that it wont really play any of the videos I store on my SD card. I've got maybe 300 gigs of media on my box, and I realize that the device supports 3GP, MP4, and AVI files, though I have no idea what versions of those extensions will play.
I have tried converting file types, file strengths (encoding, etc) to no avail. At one point I condensed an episode from my Robot Chicken DVD (picked for hilarity as well as small file size) and though the file was say, 50 MB on the computer (and played using WMP), and 50MB on the phone, it only played and scrolled as if the file was 5 seconds long on the phone.
Just like the blackberry, I assume there is a converter, or something I am otherwise missing here. All I really want to be able to do is to take a DVD, or take a file I've created, found, unearthed while deep-sea diving, etc, and play it on my Wing.
Where do I start?
EXTRA BONUS QUESTION: I installed Opera Mini as an alternative browser in root, which I now realize is IMPOSSIBLE to access. I believe a memory wipe should cure that. Would it be accessable if I store it on say, the SD card? Through file manager maybe?

Media player sucks for viewing any type of video on your phone. I suggest you install TCPMP and you should be fine. Do a search on the forum and you should find it pretty easy. As far as your Opera Mini Question....you should be able to run it from your SD card just fine.
Much appreciated, roman, I had figured it would be something like that. Glad to be rid of WMP too.
Clarifying question: How do I play the files through TCPMP? Ive tried from the file itself in file manager and it tries to launch WMP. I dont see a "file > open" type pathway within TCPMP itself.
What am I missing there?
add the file to it's playlist

There is actually a open tab thing in TCPMP, on the botton control bar in the player, click on the first tab from the left and in there there is the open option. And if you want the files to automatically open with TCPMP when you acces them from the file explorer etc. then you go to the TCPMP sttings and then to file associations. IN there select the files that you want to be asociated with TCPMP, and i think after a soft reset, they will automatically be opened with TCPMP.

[PRJ] Open-source project: PC Movie List

After all these new applications coming up these days, i had a thought of something really important to me as an application and maybe nice for the rest of you who like watching movies from your pc using your big tv.
Well i always love to watch a movie at night after a working day, i have a couple of discs full of them. in order to choose a movie or something, i need to have a mouse near me, or a remote control in order to find a movie away from my pc.
i know there are some applications out there that control media center, but to my taste they suck because media center's video management sucks too.
so i thought of having a new application on our pda, that will allow us to check our movie folders, like the picture i made below.
I would love to develop this on my own, but i have no idea how to create nice flow animations. so if anyone has time and wants to develop something like this i would be grateful
How it should work.....
1) it needs to connect to a server side (since it is a client-server side app), using wifi, maybe bluetooth too
2) i should be able to choose which application will open as default the chosen movie. i like to use Neuview player for my videos, but someone else would like powerdvd or vlc, etc
3) i should be able to choose from which folders i want the application to show movies
4) the pda should definately display the picture of the movie (it will read from the pc the picture from the movie's folder which is called "folder.jpg"
5) from the pda i should change the volume up , volume down, and skip forward or backward.
6) maybe some other features that u might think, like shutting down the pc from the pda too.
here is the picture of how i imagine this (it doesn't need to be a manilla plugin , i just used the people tab, because i like the way it displays things. This is how i imagine the application would look like too.)
hope i see people getting interested on this. GRemote doesn't help because you can't choose a movie from there. and i hate using Media center.
thank u for ur time. and sorry for any text mistakes... i am very tired
This seems legit! And if you made it into a very good today plugin, i could use it with MTP on tf3d2
no idea how to make it as a today plugin i need someone's knownledge on this thing and for the animation. propably .net is not the language for this, and i don't know something else that i can develop this.
I'm working on something similar (though not as a today plugin).

It is categorised and created via metadata stored on the server pc with a local cache on the phone containing virtual directories.

Have a look, it's called TouchRC. I'm currently writing the browsing of the metadata at the moment, so this will be in the next release of the app.

can u plz mind to inlcude, no mcp video play?
it sucks. seriously. i have a lot of episodes with seasons etc. the stupid media center creates a virtual folder in the movie list for each episode, and it drives me crazy!
i will check your application, but since u tell me that it only works with mcp, it's out.
+1
I'd be willing to donate to the cause if it was omnia(240x400) compatible.
i had a little time yesterday, and i kinda worked a bit with the graphics and so on.
as you can see i have added a "mirror" effect under my movies, but i don't know how i can make a transparent - gradient image in vb. can someone help me with this?
here is a pic of how it looks like

HTC Sense Music Player

Hey Everybody
So is it just me or does anyone else notice some very basic flaws in HTC's sense music player? Surely there must be a solution or two for these nuisances:
1) Is there a way to get it to ignore certain folders containing music that I dont want added to my library?
2) Is there some kind of tweak that allows faster accessing of songs in your library? maybe at least an alphabetic scroll? (currently to navigate to a song, you have to kinetically scroll all the way to your song and this is a huge annoyance if you have a larger music library and, for example, are looking for a song/artist/album starting with Z)
3) Why does the music player always stop whenever the camera is activated? is there some kind of reg edit so that this doesnt happen??
I realize that there are other music players out there but i'd really like to get this one working properly especially considering what a nice piece of eye candy it is on sense

let me say first I really like the "promised" capabilities of this phone bt the actual pratice is getting to me.
the Sense music player is actually going on to the internet BEFORE it loads your songs. This is why you have a long delay (especially if you have over 5gigs of music like me). It is looking for data (album art, names, song titles etc.). You will ususally get an Audiomanager .eng.exe error. I found this out yesterday. i did not believe it at first, but was told to go to settings and turn the option to "flight mode" or just cut the data connections in general.
2 minutes later a prompt came up saying that there was no data connectivity for the audio player. Try it yourself if you like. I am asking around now for a fix or tweak to stop this from happening. If I find one I will get back to you. Believe me I know your pain

Here is what I have done to get the music player to load faster. Go to the windows folder...look for audiomanager.exe copy the file and paste it in the startup folder. I have over 5GB of music...easily over 1,000 songs and it maybe lags 20 second and then i am ready to rock...literally. Try this it should help!

Use Total Commander to navigate to the folder in question (you'll probably want to start with "/Storage Card/program files"), and then long-press on the folder to bring up the options...click the box for "hidden". Each folder you do that for will then be skipped when the music player indexes, but you can still see/access the folders like normal.
EDIT: Toreone's tip IS a great way to speed up indexing on larger music libraries...the cab below does the exact same thing he was describing

Hide media from media scanner

Hi all,
is there a way to hide certain media (in this case: videos) from the media scanner so they do not show up in the media list?
I do not want my wife to know what kind of p.0n I'm wathing on my phone
To be precise: Nothin' illegal, just the usual stuff, but she's almost fundamentally catholic
Just make a file called ".nomedia" and put it in that folder
From my Galaxy S loonie-phone
I would be quite interested in this too..
And how do I re-run the media scan?

Or connect USB and mount the drives, then dissconnect, scanner will run automatically
reboot phone, kill two birds with one stone, mostly reply in case this helps a future viewer.
Put said videos in a folder starting with . for example...
/sdcard/media/.secret/stuff/
The content in .secret will not be visible in any normal file explorer or file chooser, appear in galleries or media scanners. You will have to use a file explorer that has a "show hidden files" option to see these.
Optionally you may use .nomedia to hide these in a general sense. However not all third party software will honour these tags.

LOL, ack! She's into the "normal" stuff that we watch together, but I also like... well, that doesn't belong here, but anyway I'd like to explicitly state it's nothing illegal...
You could also use "Vaulty Free" app that moves selected images and videos into a virtual vault which then requires a password to open and view. This also ensures that they do not show up in gallery and video player.
Hope this helps.
Look at my signature.
Put all your secret files in /sdcard/.secret/Secret Stuff.jpg
Then use my app to start the media scanner when you need to scan.
Look at the link in my signature.
so how would this work if you wanted to hide media in game directories? its quite irritating to have the media player list the thousand small wav and mp3 files that are part of games i have on my SD, and renaming the dir to one with a dot in the front will break the path to it.
any suggestions?

Agreed....
I have several .nomedia files in different folder Apps that contain graphics.
Stops them showing up in the Gallery App.
Using a .nomedia file works fine for video game folders but if you add one to a music folder to hide the album art thumbnails from the gallery then this also hides the music files from the music player !

I think you can get around this by embedding the folder art into the music files themselves - I had to do this to my entire collection as my car player would only see them in the MP3s and not as separate files

Try changing the album image's name to albumart.jpg (or watherver file type it is). It is no loger shown in the gallery. Only problem is you can only have 1 image per folder. I have not tried with variantas such as albumart_1 and so on, but it may work...
Thanks, .nomedia worked fine for me, but I think there really should be an option in the OS to either leave the scanner on auto (so it could scan all the phone's storage), or to manually select the folders that contain my media files.

App update: MX Video Player

Just a heads up - MX video player has officially updated and now has native Honeycomb support, many more decoding options, a much better user interface, and generally is the most well rounded video player I have ever used.
Give it a shot if you find yourself using your Iconia for video playback!

I was wondering...
I have been changing ROMS this week and I couldn't remember which players I had. I hated not being able use one player, imagine my surprise when MX Video played all my files.
I have two sports files that could not be... not sure of the word, but they had to be watched from beginning to end, couldn't skip the commercials. Now I can.
The improvements are substantial.

Yup. You need to futz around with filesharing a bit - enable the guest annount, and when sharing the folder make sure it is shared with the group "everyone"
Also on newer versions of windows, make sure the files are not in a protected location (c:\users, c:\documents and settings) as you will not be able to access them.
