The mystery Deepens...
When I first got my X1 from o2 I was eager to protect it, so before I sourced an appropriate case, I used one I got free for my XDA Trion.
As soon as I put the X1 in the case strange things started happening, which at first I dissmisssed, but after reading some of your threads on the accelerometer " apparently " missing from the X1, my curiosity was aroused.
The case for the Trion has 2 magnets in the lid which hold the lid closed against the case body.
When I pressed the power button on the X1, to put it into standy mode, and put it inside the case, the X1 came back to life, and switched to landscape mode ! Spooky !
At first I thought some of the external buttons had done this, but upon further investigation this is not the case.
With the X1 in standby mode, when I place it gently on top of the lid, not in the case, containing the magnets, the X1 comes to life, and when I move the X1 over the lid the X1 switches to landscape mode, no buttons being pressed.
At first this annoyed me, as everytime I put it in the case, I had to do it in ultra slow motion so as not to wake the " sensor or acclerometer " burried deep within the device architecture, so as to not drain the battery while it was awake within the case.
This is all true, you can try this yourself, if you have a magnetic case.
Now accelerometers use fluctuations in magnetic fields, the earths magnetic field. Has the " sensor or accelerometer " buried deep within the architecture of the X1 been subverted to the menial task of sensing when the keyboard is moved, and thus switching to landscape ?
Is this the price Sony paid to HTC for having the X1 made alongside their Touch HD ?
Is it a conspiracy or is it simple science ?
Can the brave men and women of XDA developers free the accelerometer buried deep underground within the X1 ! ,
or as I now call it the X51 !
PS - Candidate for the award for the best App for the X1 has to be Qmenu, but if Bill Gates had implimented this program first off, maybe the X1 and this whole site wouldn't even exist.
There is No accelerometer, the slidiing mechanism works on magnets to tell it when it's open and so it wakes the screen up and changes the orientation. Your case simply tricked the phone into thinking the slider was open. This has nothing to do with an accelerometer.
Accelerometer sceptics please think !
Wouldn't it be easier for HTC to leave the accelerometer in place, but redundant, dumbed down, and simply tell Sony it didn't have one, rather than go through a more costly redesign from there original Touch HD architecture ?
the xperia design was around for a long time before the blackstone was. it was supposed to launch in february of this year.

it was announced in Feb doesn't mean it'll launch then right?
ah, appears that i was wrong. either way, the xperia was around (and i'd say completed) before the blackstone came around.
eric b
I had same experience as Mark...
I noticed my xperia sometimes switch to landscape for no reason, especially when I put in horizontal belt case...
I don't know what happened...
im not trying to bad mouth sony ericsson despite all these frustrations... there is no accelerometer in the xperia.. se fanatics wishes.. but, dream on.. xperia don't have accelerometer and that's a fact.
what's happening here is simply a malfunction.. sony ericsson got a lot of that.. hehehe.. thus giving us an update service feature.. the egg is sold half-cooked.. the seller gave you a pan and a stove and continue cooking by yourself..
sometimes, when i put my xperia on my pocket.. i always accidentally open the keyboard halfway and close immediately.. it happens all the time.. due to the short time of the transition of the opening and closing.. the fast processor of the xperia changes the orientation to landscape mode and gets stuck there.. so you have to open it up and close again so the fast processor of the xperia will change it to portrait mode..
Yup. No accelerometer in xperia.
And even if there was, a magnet wouldn't trigger an accelerometer that was disabled using software.
Guys this is somewhat new or old [i dont know] but whenever i use my HERO with my hands it seems to work properly and the move from one screen to another is smooth..and everything else is smooth!
BUt when i put my hero on a hard surface such as a table or my bed and use it with my fingers,,,then i have to apply extra pressure and screen doesnt responds sometimes...does anyoone else has this problem or its just that way??
P.S i have the official latest ROM and not rooted!
this has been gone over before, its due to the capacitive screen.
although in saying that, mine works fine on a table...
thanx man but how can that be related to capacitive screen...iphone is capacitive but works perfectly on a hard surface..
can u give a link to that thread where it has been discussed before??
This is due to there isn't enough room on the edges of the capacitive screen to close the circuit between the points where it registers the circuit. The metal bezel acts like a grounding point in this case.
I can't give an answer why it is like that. Only HTC (and those who have dissected the Hero) can answer that.

now taht you mention that, i noticed that too many times. i always thought this has something todo with the screen calibration and the angle from which the screen is touched. Of course havin the device on a table will result in a different touch angle than having it in your hand. But seems like the reason is a different one...
touchscreen was working today morning, took battery out for 2 hours, turned it back on and it was working abit weird, and now i cant press any touchscreen buttons atall!
So no softkeys (pick call, home etc.) and nothining on the big screen! I can turn on the phone, press the power button and volume buttons, see my home screen get calls etc.. hard reset twice, took battery out, nothing does it .. gonna try flash it but dont think itll do it ... and ideas?
Im in uk aswell if that makes a diff
Dear All,
I have similar problem. Usuallí I use on my HD NRG ROM. About 3 weeks ago I updated to the latest NRG WM 6.5 23xxx ROM with Sense 2.5 Maxmanila version, and since this upgrade the touch screen position moving randomized up or down from 2 mm to 30mm!!! After this ROM I tryed updating each newer version, but not changed nothing. I need realign the screen about 10 times / day!!! The phone I never dropped or cracked.
Can help me somebody what happened with my HD?
I had this happen to me yesterday. I was surfing on my phone as per the norm. Put my phone down. Got a txt, picked it up and it wouldnt allow me to access it. I thought it must be a freeze as it has happened occasionally.
So I restarted.............and nothing. No response AT ALL from the touch screen.
I have noticed the oily spot problem on the most part of my screen, and thescreen doesnt have that little give it used to when using it (paranoia possibly)
So I can only assume something has given within the screen. Ive been searching all day on the internet for causes and fixes but nothing has come up.
The volume and power buttons work but I cant do anything at all with the phone as its obviously all touch based.
Is this a screen replacement job then or is the whole phone goosed?
Roheelshah if you turn your phone off do you have the massive oily screen thing?
Any help is most appreciated....
I had the same thing, a oily spot, but it was there for months, then i noticed another new spot (looked like a tiny tiny burn) and thats when it stopped working completely... ive ordered a new screen which should be comming in a few days, im hoping thats the issue
will let you know if it works ....
keep me updated if you find anything
thanks!

whats it do? and where from??
I just posted something like this a few days ago, pulled my phone out and screen wouldnt respond, had these marks all over my screen, "swirly marks" as i describe it, very well could be the oily marks you are talking about. you can move them around with your finger right?
anyway, i took my sim out, tryna find a spare phone, couple hours later the marks were gone and screen started working again, touch wood its been fine since.
no idea what happened, but try letting it air out or something
ok basically i received a new digitizer today (the actual touchscreen) ...
i dismantled the whole phone using the service manual and some video some guy made (VERY HELPFUL, if anyone wants it for any reason i can post a link), ok so i got rid of all the top bits, the circuit boards (or watever theyre called)
I got down to just the bezel, lcd and digitizer (dont know what a bezel is, the lcd is where the display actually is and digitizer is directly stuck ontop of that)
Apparently when replacing the screen, htc have made it so that you have to replace all three of those parts instead of individual ones, but you can buy them seperately so i thought i'd hero it.
i poked out the screen from the frame (some chewingum like stuff holding it in) then i started peeling off the digitizer (if you get one and want to try it you'll know where to peel) ... this was a mistake tho cause the lcd is unbelievebly sensitive so while peeling off it left scratches on the lcd, and me not knowing the lcd is sticky tried to wipe them and use a dust free cloth, which left alot of crap on the actual lcd!
i managed to get the digitizer off and ripped the cable that goes from digitizer to whatever reads our fingers on the screen, took it all off, placed the new one directly ontop and fed the wire exactly how it was for the first screen.
Put it all together again
Now I did mess up my screen badly, but in a good way! .. i now have full touchscreen working (smoother than ever) but my LCD display is near enough gone, so it looks like the screens really really dark, and i have to tilt it at certain angles to see the screen..
After all of this i now have a touch hd i can controll from my pc (using mymobiler) so i can recieve calls, send texts all from my pc when connected thru active sync, can even play teeter ... but not really the same!
I wouldnt recomend anyone to try what i did, although i think its worth the risk as I would have to replace the lcd anyways if i wanted a new screen in the first place... and who knows you might be able to peel the digitizer off clean (NEVER EVER EVER TOUCH LCD WITH ANYTHING!!!).
It all cost me around 10-15£ for the digitizer and screwdrivers and alot of hours dismantling phone compared to 50-100£ for a new lcd.
I am either going to get a new lcd now so i can actually see the screen, or get a new phone.
Sorry for the essay but hopefully this helps someone in any similar situation
if i do get a new lcd will post how it goes and if it sorts out everything
if anyone knows of any other reasons why my lcd would be so dim (brightness is 100%) accept for me getting carried away with it ... help would be appreciated

Yeah swirly oil marks is how myne started ... i think i finished off the screen by trying to press hard on the mark to try and clear it .. . so be careful with it.. but think that overall the screen had seen better days (course only a few weeks after warrenty finishes) ... all conections inside were ok aswell

Same here. Touch screen not working. Phone never flashed, droped,...
Any solution?
unfortunately, a friend of mine changed the touchscreen without success. Phone was in perfect state, no drop, no flash. Just the touch not responding. I'm not sure that changing whole part lcd+digitizer solve the problem.
Hi all!
I've got similar problem with my touch HD. It's stock since I bought it. My touch sense was acting weird, like it wasn't properly calibrated. Like, when I press 7 on phone pad, the phone actually presses 1, and if I press 0, phone presses 5 and so on..
I've tried to align the screen, but it doesn't get aligned the first time. I have to repeat the process about 4 times before it gets aligned. That's good for about few minutes and the problem is back. Hard reset was also done, 2 times.
Could this be a fixed with a software update? Does this mean that digitizer will soon be dead?
Thank you for your help
Regards

I've successfuly installed the cab file on my phone's sd card, but the problem is still there. I don't know where the installed files are, do I have to run this application?
Thank you for your help!

have you hard reset the device after installing the cab file ?? if not do it and see if there are changes...

Just did the hard reset. When it asked me to align the screen, I just couldn't align the top left corner. I had to press it like 50 times before cross went to the lower corner. Otherwise, after the align it's good for about couple of seconds and then it's just pressing all over.
I thought I had just some software issues because the screen wasn't dead, it responded to my touch. So, I'll probably have to buy a new screen and digitizer, right? Or do you have any other ideas?
Thank you again for your help!
Regards
firstly screencal installs calibration settings not for blackstone so do not install it, no point. (btw it also increases device touch sensitivity)
secondly you guys should try and install the calibration settings for blackstone, basicly what the align screen does, not sure where to find them for download but i could post the registrys if someone wants to make a .cab from them. (atm i cba making the .cab but i am able to do it )
if the calibration settings do not work i think it is best to buy a new lcd package (or buy new device and give me old one for spares oj)
Rn
hi buddy ! What you mean GSensorCalibrator ??
i didnt mention anything about gsensor calibration dude.
tried and tested screencal the other week and it screwed my blackstone.
install these instead:
*screen calibration, sets the blackstone touch points: (aligning the screen)
if you install a cab with these registrys it should fix the alignment problem.
(if it doesnt then its hardware issue = lcd etc)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"MaxCalError"=dword:8
"CalibrationData"="511,542 183,881 183,198 834,197 833,880"
*this one will maximise the touch sensitivity for those that want it:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel]
"PressureThreshold"=dword:0

Does anyone have a recommendation where you can buy a digitizer and lcd from?
Hello!
I just downloaded this game called doodle jump ...
and i recognized that something is wrong with my acceleration sensor or something because its a litte strange to play...
I checked it in the setting menu:
i have to hold my phone a little bit sideways that it says 0 degrees ...
is this normal ??
Thanks
you can calibrate it... can't remember how now.. but have done it myself.
This would be nice ...
But I cant find anything on the phone or on the web
Does anybody know ??
try downloading a spirit level app... seem to remember that was what I used.
i can calibrate the sensor there perfectly .. but no changes on the telephones default adjustment and no changes in other applications !
???
so i Checked again now in service tests and I found out that it is only the X axis that is affected ... Y and Z are perfectly calibrated.. can pls some people check in their phone if their X-axis is calibrated right (phone in an upright position) .. Thank you !!!
I think that something it's wrong with you X10. Mine show changes in every axis all time
Hi all,
I was wondering if there is a way to reduce screen sensitivity under android, such as it is possible to do under Windows mobile by installing proper cab files.
Indeed I have some problems while typing under android, as the screen is super sensitive and I always make mistakes. I know I should have some touchscreen problems, but it would be great to solve this problems through a SW fix, as I did under windows mobile, without sending the device to the orrible HTC assistance.
anyone knows how to reduce screen sensitivity?
im wondering the same thing since i got this cheap charger which makes the sensitiving horrible, but back to normal when i unplug it.
android made my faulty touchscreen much more usable than stock winmo. but you are right: typing with standard keyboard is also nearly impossible for me! that's why i use swype. my touch is jittering around every few minutes. at this moments it's better for me to wait until it's over...
at least: +1 for a lower touchscreen sensitivity under android!

I don't think I would use that charger it providing the wrong volts or amps (sorry don't remember which) but it will cook the digitizer, happened to my g1 using an old motorola charger for a couple days while camping
Sent from my HTC HD2 Android
I know exactly what you're talking about, as I suffer from it as well. HTC did release the patch for winmo which fixed the problem completely.. hope someone finds a fix soon, I have not been able to find one!
the screen problems i faced disappeared with android , i think your devices have hardware faults
bump on this!

yeah, i know that my touchscreen is a bit faulty. at cold weather (like now) and cold hands, it is nearly unusable for writing but under winmo the jitterbug wasn't that annoying after sensitivity reduction! that's why we are looking for it on android.

what kind of patch is it? does it fix somehow the jitterbug of faulty screens, or just reduces the sensitivity like several mods on winmo does?
Anyone tried changing the sensitivity setting on the HD2?
Go to All apps/Settings/Language & Keyboard/Touch Input/Text Input/ then scroll to the bottom for Calibration Tool. There you can change the touch sensitivity.
My touchscreen is faulty too.. i hope Hastarin will make for us a special Kernel to fix this issue.. i just have to wait till that jitterbug ends, then i could type...
same in-games..

I can only make calibration, I can't see a way to directly reduce screen sensitivity

+1 on asking astaring for a kernel with reduced sensitivity
The probem is that if we send the telephone to HTC they will simply upgrade the ROM to the 3.14, as in the new official ROM the sensitivity has been drastically reduced and the problem doesn't appear anymore...
but under android it is still present (and the touch screen remains faulty)!!
thenomadsoul = I can only make calibration, I can't see a way to directly reduce screen sensitivity
If memory serves me right, a keyboard with words for you to type appear, from what I know cause I have done this, the harder to press the less sensitive the screen is to touch, the lighter you press the more sensitive it is to touch.
If im completely off base, then take me out to the pasture and shoot me

Keep this thread alive!!
Any update about what already discussed?
Same. Any update?
Tried Magldr 1.13 and Clockwork 1.3 updates.
Used HyperDroid and ghost touching was just as bad, though it took a while.
Tried Typhoon mod and it had same issues.
Using Stock Gingerbread and it's still giving some indications but not so bad.
It seems like the screen is just way too sensative. I'm out in the wind and the screen somehow picks up the wind hitting the screen as me touching it?
Is this a Hardware Problem?
I´m using Android in my Hd2 too, version gingerbread from nexus one by tytung...
I had problems with screen sensitivity in WinMo, and for now in Android os...
So, maybe this problem is a hardware issue? If try replace screen, this problem persists?
In HD2 plus Android, this device is great... except screen sensitivy.
Sorry about my poor english.
I'm not sure it's a sensitivity problem.
Rather I think that to use screen we have to press keys on the touch with almost strong strength.
What I think is that sometimes it seems HD2's touch doesn't clear the buffer of pressed coordinate... and it starts to press here and there randomly.
Or it seems there is some strange signal which causes this.
I think lowering touch screen sensitivity won't solve our problems.
